• What combination of project-management software will meet my just-started project's needs?

  Hello all, I have a got couple of software projects that I want to run with my friends(max 10 persons) privately(at least for now). But I'm kind of lost between software management systems. I am not even sure about the definitions of my needs. Dear all, what is the definition/name of the system/software that meets my needs listed below? Continuous Integration? And please suggest me a good ALL-IN-ONE instance of it: project roadmap/planning project resource(people) allocation project issue&bug tracking project mailing list project forum project wiki source control server source control client repository change notifier client build system(like scons) nightly build automation IDE integration(VS) Note: I tried Redmine and liked it, but found it kind of slow. • problems with extended classes and overwrite with methods

  I have a .net website written in C# and will make functionalities that other developers can use. So i will make some default implementation and a developer can overwrite some methods Example: i have a class ShoppingCart and a class Product the class product haves a method getProductPrice the shoppingcart will call the method getProductPrice for calculating the total price of cart The Shoppingcart and Product are in the same project and i will give the developers the .dll so they can't change the source code so we can update the assembly later So they need to make a other project and extend the product class and overwrite the method getProductPrice so they can implement there own logic The problem is that the shoppingcart will not call the extended method but the original If we make already a extended project for the developers and the shoppingcart will call the extended method then we have a circular reference because the extended product needs a reference to product and the shopping cart to the extended product partial classes also don't works because we only can use partials within the same assembly anyone a suggestion ? thanks in advance

• Favicon to PNG in PHP

  I need a PHP script to convert favicons to PNGs while keeping their original dimensions. I know Google has it's secret icon converter - http://www.google.com/s2/favicons?domain=http://facebook.com/ but this converts favicons to 16x16 even if they they were originally larger. So basically I need this, minus the shrinking effect. I've also seen this - http://www.controlstyle.com/articles/programming/text/php-favicon/ but I couldn't get it to work after hours of messing around with it. Basically I am trying to automatically grab the icon for a link that will be as large as possible - automatically 48x48 png based on a URL would be the perfect scenario, but I don't know of any humanly possible way to do this given that no websites happen to keep a 48x48 icon in a publicly accessible spot. Does anybody know of a script/service or have a suggestion? Thanks!

• What if I put two kinds of encoded strings, say utf-8 and utf-16, in one file?

  In Python, for example: f = open('test','w') f.write('this is a test\n'.encode('utf-16')) f.write('another test\n'.encode('utf-8')) f.close() That file gets messy when I re-open it: f = open("test") print f.readline().decode('utf-16') # it leads to UnicodeDecodeError print f.readline().decode('utf-8') # it works fine However if I keep the texts encoded in one style (say utf-16 only), it could read back ok. So I'm guessing mixing two types of encoding in the same file is wrong and couldn't be decoded back, even if I do know the encoding rules of each specific string? Any suggestion is welcome, thank you!

  I wonder what is the safest way to subtract two System.Runtime.InteropServices.ComTypes.FILETIME objects? I used the following code but sometimes it gives me ArithmaticOverflow exception due to the negative number in Low 32-bit values. I am not sure enclosing the body with unchecked will serve the purpose or not. • About data size filled in the buffer

  I need low-latency audio in my project, and I know Android 2.3 supports OpenSL ES. I have read documents and sample code and I decide to use Android simple buffer queue to do the play and record. I now try to write a simple application to do the test. However, I have some questions about recording. If I set the recorder stop when it is recording, how do I know the exact number of bytes filled in the last buffer if it is not filled up ? In 1.1 version, the callback function has some parameters about buffer and its filled data, but there is no such parameters in version 1.0.1. Is there any way to get this information ? Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated !

  Hi, I'm a starting a project which consist in sending a request to a web-service (which is already available) and parsing the response. I have the WSDL and URL endpoints. Does anyone have a startup tutorial on how to build something from there? I would like to use Axis2 + Axiom to send the service request and receive and process the response. • Algorithm for non-contiguous netmask match

  Hi, I have to write a really really fast algorithm to match an IP address to a list of groups, where each group is defined using a notation like 192.168.0.0/252.255.0.255. As you can see, the bitmask can contain zeros even in the middle, so the traditional "longest prefix match" algorithms won't work. If an IP matches two groups, it will be assigned to the group containing most 1's in the netmask. I'm not working with many entries (let's say < 1000) and I don't want to use a data structure requiring a large memory footprint (let's say 1-2 MB), but it really has to be fast (of course I can't afford a linear search). Do you have any suggestion? Thanks guys.   Hi all, I got an array in my app and I need to order by one of its key. Basically what the app does is taking latitude and longitude somewhere, calculate the distance from my actual position and create an array containing a key called "distance". I'm using myArray sortUsingDescriptors: [NSArray arrayWithObject:[[[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"distance" ascending:YES] autorelease]]]; I'm not sure it's working, I mean the first results are ordered but then it shows distance closer to the previous, as example: 0.8 km 1.6 km 1.9 km 10053.9 km 1098.0 km 2372.0 km 470.5 km Any suggestion? • A question about indexes regarding to the gain of inserts & updates in database

  Hi, I’m having a question about the fine line between the gain of an index to a table there is growing steadily in size every month and the gain of queries with an index. The situation is, that I’ve two tables, Table1 and Table2. Each table grows slowly but regularly each month (with about 100 new rows for Table1 and a couple of rows for Table2). My concrete question is whether to have an index or to drop it. I’ve made some measurement that an covering index on Table2 improve my SELECT queries and some rather much but again, I’ve to consider the pros and cons but having a really hard time to decide. For Table1 it might not be necessary to have an index because the SELECT queries there is not that common. I would appreciate any suggestion, tips or just good advice to what is a good solution. By the way, I’m using IBM DB2 version 9.7 as my Database system Sincerely Mestika

• Creating standalone, console (shell) for domain-specific operations

  Say that I have a system service, and I want to offer a low-level maintenance access to it. For that purpose, I'd like to create a standalone, console application that somehow connects to server process and lets user type in commands, allow it to use auto-completion and auto-suggestion on single/double TAB press (just like linux bash shell, mysql cli, cmd.exe, and countless others), allow command line editing capabilities (history, cursor keys to move around text..), etc. Now, it's not that much of a problem to create something like that by rolling my own from scratch, handling user input, scanning pressed keys, and doing correct actions. But, why reinvent the wheel? Is there some library/framework that helps with this kind of problems, just like readline library that offers improved command-line editing capabilities under linux? Of course, this new "shell" would respond only to valid, domain-specific commands, and would suggest valid arguments, options, switches... Any ideas? Thanks!

  I am looking for something very close to an application server with these features: it should handle a series of threads/daemons, allowing the user to start-stop-reload each one without affecting the others it should keep libraries separated between different threads/daemons it should allow to share some libraries Currently we have some legacy code reinventing the wheel... and not a perflectly round-shaped one at that! I thought to use Tomcat, but I don't need a web server, except maybe for the simple backoffice user interface (/manager/html). Any suggestion? Is there a non-web application server, or is there a better alternative to Tomcat (more lightweight, for example, or easier to configure)? Thanks in advance.

  In order to select data from part of an application that isn't affected by dirty data, I create a TransactionScope that specifies a ReadUncommitted IsolationLevel as per the suggestion from Hanselman here. My question is, do I still need to execute the oTS.Complete() call at the end of the using block even if this transaction scope was not built for the purpose of bridging object dependencies across 2 databases during an Insert, Update, or Delete? • Can I get information about the IIS7 virtual directory from Application_Start?

  I have 3 IIS7 virtual directories which point to the same physical directory. Each one has a unique host headers bound to it and each one runs in its own app pool. Ultimately, 3 instances of the same ASP.NET application. In the Application_Start event handler of global.asax I would like to identify which instance of the application is running (to conditionally execute some code). Since the Request object is not available, I cannot interrogate the current URL so I would like to interrogate the binding information of the current virtual directory? Since the host header binding is unique for each site, it would allow me to identify which application instance is starting up. Does anyone know how to do this or have a better suggestion?

  I am using coredata framework. In my NSManagedObjectModel i am using three entities that are Class, Student and Score where class and student have one-to-many & inverse relationship and Student and Score have also inverse but one-one relationship. Score entity has all optional attributes and having default '0' decimalVaue, which is not assigned at the time new Student is added. But later i want to assign them score individually and also to particular attribute not all of score attributes in a go. I am able to create and add Students to particular Class but dont have any idea how to call particular student and assign them score. For example I want to assign Score'attribute "dribbling" [there are many attributes like "tackling"] a decimal value to Student "David" of Class "Soccer" ,how i can do that? • Can I create a dataset XSD without using the designer?

  Hi everyone, I want to be able to create the XSD file for my typed dataset without using the visual studio dataset designer. Is there a way to do this using for instance a command-line tool? There is some magic happening when a table is dragged from the server explorer to the design surface, but where does that magic come from? To add some flavour to the mix, I am using DB2 LUW 9.1, but I am guessing that the process is similar using other database vendors.   Dear all, I have to say sorry for my poor English first... I have a string named s_Result which will be parsed from Internet, the format may be "Distance: 2.8km (about 9 mins)", and there are 4 variables which are f_Distance, m_DistanceUnit, f_timeEst, m_timeEstUnit. My question is, how to parse s_Result and assign 2.8, km, 9, mins into f_Distance, m_distanceUnit, f_timeEst, and m_timeEstUnit respectively using regular expression?? I tried using "\d+(.\d+)?" in RegEx Tester and the result showed 2 matches found, but if use "\\d+(\\.\\d+)?" in Android code, it showed nothing matched!!! Is there any suggestion?? • How useful is a 'pure' MVC implementation?

  I work at a company that provides custom made 'CRM'-like software. We are currently redesigning/redeveloping the software with the hopes that it will look more modern and be easier to develop and customize for future clients. Currently it takes a long time to customize each new application. There is a presumption that the reason it takes so long is because of the amount of business logic that is present in the 'view' layer. To some extent I can vouch for this being true, but symptoms don't always reliably point out a cause. There was a suggestion that if we just move the business logic to the controller layer and use pure view (we use java J2EE and struts) as in implementing struts tags instead of calling the bean layer and iterating objects right on the jsp - etc etc. Before I start advocating we go forward with this, I wanted to get a feeling for what other people thought. Does a "pure" implementation of the MVC (especially emphasis on decoupling the controller and the view) provide a cleaner, easier to develop and change code base?

• C# - What should I do when every inherited class needs getter from base class, but setter only for O

  Hello, I have a abstract class called WizardViewModelBase. All my WizardXXXViewModel classes inherit from the base abstract class. The base has a property with a getter. Every sub class needs and overrides that string property as its the DisplayName of the ViewModel. Only ONE ViewModel called WizardTimeTableWeekViewModel needs a setter because I have to set wether the ViewModel is a timetable for week A or week B. Using 2 ViewModels like WizardTimeTableWeekAViewModel and WizardTimeTableWeekBViewModel would be redundant. I do not want to override the setter in all other classes as they do not need a setter. Can I somehow tell the sub class it needs not to override the setter? Or any other suggestion? With interfaces I would be free to use getter or setter but having many empty setter properties is not an option for me.
