• Is it better to echo javascript in raw format with php, or echo a script include that has been minif

  Hey guys quick question, I am currently echoing a lot of javascript that is based conditionally on login status and other variables. I was wondering if it would be better to simply echo the script include like <script type="text/javascript" src="javascript/openlogin.js"></script> that has been run through a minifying program and been gzipped or to echo the full script in raw format. The latter suggestion is messier to me but it reduces http requests while the latter would probably be smaller but take more cpu? Just wondering what some other people think. • Best tools / formats for documenting XML API?

  We are developing XML over HTTP service and we need a way to document the XML interface. Our supported XMLs generally are subsets of some industry standard XML API, which unfortunately lacks any good documentation. It has XSDs though with some annotations, so we use this go generate the initial documentation and then remove the unsupported parts and refine the result. But this process is tedious and the results aren't at all great. Any suggestion about documentation formats and tools? I prefer to have HTML output and possibly more, e.g. PDF. Oh, and we are mixed Linux and Windows shop, so the tools should work well on both.

• What is the proper way to access datastore in custom Model Binders?

  How should I properly implement data access in my custom model binders? Like in controllers I use IContentRepository and then have it create an instance of its implementing class in constructor. So I have everything ready for incorporating IoC (DI) at a later stage. Now I need something similar in model binder. I need to make some DB lookups in the binder. I'm thinking of doing it the same way I do it in controllers but I am open to suggestion.   I want to create a proc file under /proc/driver directory. I would like to use a macro like proc_root_driver (or something else provided) rather than use "driver/MODULE_NAME" explicitly. I use create_proc_entry : ... struct proc_dir_entry *simpleproc_fops_entry; simpleproc_fops_entry = create_proc_entry(MODULE_NAME, 0400, NULL /* proc_root_dir */); ... After googling, I found suggestion to use proc_root_driver, but when I use it, error "proc_root_driver undeclared in this function". And also, proc_root_driver is not available in linux/proc_fs.h. I have tried to declare structure like this: struct proc_dir_entry proc_root; struct proc_dir_entry *proc_root_driver = &proc_root; Errors gone, but proc file didn't exist under /proc/driver or /proc Anyone here can help me?   What are the major differences between Windows CE and Windows Mobile for a programmer? I'd love to find a feature table, but haven't been able to find one on the Microsoft web site. I'm starting to work on a project involving industrial handheld terminals. I'm early into the design phase and need to find a comparison of Windows CE and Windows Mobile. Many of the people I'll be talking to jump on the first option that sounds "good enough". I want my first suggestion to be the best based on their needs.   Hi Geeks, I developing a GUI in QT where I have to show the battery status icon. To get the system power status, I am using the windows API. But to show status anytime , do i need to use a thread to continuously read and display the power status? I am thinking of using event handler. But not sure how to implement.   JS_CallFunctionName can call a method of an object by name: JSObject* obj; JS_CallFunctionName(cx, obj, "doSomething", argc, vp, retVal); The code above works fine if the "doSomething" is a function declared in the prototype of the "obj". What I want to know is if there is a way to call a function that is a "class function". I tried: if(JS_HasProperty(getGlobalContext(), getGlobalObject(), "ClassToGet", &b)) { print("OK"); } and the output is "OK". But when tried: JS_GetProperty(getGlobalContext(), getGlobalObject(), "ClassToGet", &jsOwner); if (jsOwner != JSVAL_VOID) { } the jsOwner is a JSVAL_VOID. Maybe there is a function in SpiderMonkey can execute function in a JSClass ? Any suggestion will be appreciated, thanks :)

• Pylons and Pisa (xhtml2pdf): blank page in IE

  I'm using pylons to serve a dynamically generated pdf document for reporting: my approach works in firefox & chrome (it displays the pdf inline if the plugin is available or otherwise downloads it) but IE (7 & 8) only show a blank page and doesn't prompt for download. IE correctly shows PDFs generated by other websites, though. Don't know if it matters but the page is accessed through HTTPS. My controller does the following: renders the source page through mako converts the html to pdf using pisa adds these headers to the response: Content-type: application/pdf and Content-disposition: inline; filename=file.pdf Do you have any suggestion? I seem to be stuck and cannot think of anything else to try.

  Mac OS X's window manager is composed of: Applications Windows Tabs By default on OS X, you can cycle over applications with the famous ?? shortcut. In addition to this, I use a little utility called Witch which enables cycling (graphically) over windows too(I've defined it on ??). Unfortunately, it does not currently support tabs cycling... Would you have any suggestion for this? I know I already can ^? for this, but I'm looking for a graphical utility where you are not blind during cycling. Thank you.

  Hi,i am working for speech synthesis.In this i have a large number of pronunciation for each phone i.e alphabet and need to classify them according to few feature such as segment size(int) and alphabet itself(string) into a smaller set suitable for that particular context. • I'm having a problem identifying a floating point exception.

  I'm using c++ in visual studio express to generate random expression trees for use in a genetic algorithm type of program. Because they are random, the trees often generate (I'll call them exceptions, I'm not sure what they are) Thanks to a suggestion by George, I turned the mask _MCW_EM on so that hardware interrupts are turned off. (the default) So, the program runs uninterrupted, but some of the values returned are: -1.#INF, -1.#NAN, -1.#INV. I don't know how to identify these so that I can throw an exeption: if ( variable == -1.#INF) ?? DigitalRoss in this post seemed to have the solution, but as I understood it I couldn't make it work. I've been looking all over the place for this simple bit of code, that I assumed would be used all the time, but have had no luck. thanks

• removing a line from a text file?

  Hi all. I am working with a text file, which contains a list of processes under my programs control, along with relevant data. At some point, one of the processes will finish, and thus will need to be removed from the file (as its no longer under control). Here is a sample of the file contents (which has enteries added "randomly"): PID=25729 IDLE=0.200000 BUSY=0.300000 USER=-10.000000 PID=26416 IDLE=0.100000 BUSY=0.800000 USER=-20.000000 PID=26522 IDLE=0.400000 BUSY=0.700000 USER=-30.000000 So for example, if I wanted to remove the line that says PID=26416.... how could I do that, without writing the file over again? I can use external unix commands, however I am not very familiar with them so please if that is your suggestion, give an example. Thanks!

• Android strace in Real device

  I have the following situation, I want to monitor the system calls on Android phones so I made an script to do that. With Android Emulator works perfectly (writes the traces of the application in a specific file on my Ubuntu). The problem is when I attach a real phone to analyze it, it says the following in the result file: ptrace attach failed: Operation not permitted I'm using this code to get it, but I don't understand why it works on the emulator and not in the rooted real device. This is the comand I use in perl: system("$dirTools/adb -s $Device shell strace -p $PID[1]>$dirRecordDataSet/$Date/$appName &"); Any suggestion? Thanks in advance

  Is it possible to combine the following properties, and if so, how? Store in our version control system some Visual Studio 2008 native C++ project files for the developers in our team that use this IDE. Allow some of those developers to tweak their projects (e.g. using debug version of third-party libraries instead of the usual ones). Make sure these modifications are done in files that are not versioned. In other words, I would like to allow developers to tweak some settings in their projects without risking that these changes are committed. An 'optional VSPROP' file approach seems doomed to fail, as VS2008 refuses to load projects that refer to non-existent VSPROP files... Any other suggestion? Is this possible with VS2010?

• Unstyled web page in IE6. Not FOUC

  I have a very interesting issue with one of the websites I created. It renders fine in Safari, Chrome, Opera, FF, IE7&8 but IE6 does not seem to recognize my stylesheet. I'm not using @import for loading, so it's not a case a FOUC. The website is using Wordpress but never had an issue like this before with WP. • Strategy for developing a multi function asp.net web application

  I'm about to start a new project and want some advice on how to implement. I need a web application which contains a booking module for reserving timeslots, and a time management module which will enable employees to clock in / clock out. If I am writing an update to the time managment module, I don't want to disrupt the booking engine availability by releasing a new solution containing both modules. to make things more difficult, there is some shared functionality like common users, roles and security. Here's a suggestion I've gotten, which sounds a bit cruddy, but may be functional. Write a 'container' web application which consists of basically a frame, and authentication / security features. This then has links which, will load the 2 independantly built and released web applications into the frame. I can see that say, if I wanted to update the time management module, I would only need to build and release this separately, and the rest of the solution would be 'untouched' Any better alternatives?

  I need to support the use of proxy on our application that is using WCF connections. We do not have any proxy server on our network and I don't want to disrupt our corporate network by requesting a proxy installation. I was thinking of installing a proxy server on a local virtual machine and configurating Internet Explorer so that it will challenge that proxy. I don't know what proxy software to use (I don't want to install ISA server) and I don't know how to configure one. Does someone have any suggestion for a easy to use software that will require an authentication for any WCF services and do you have any guideline that would be helpful to know when testing a software against a proxy?

  I've got a C DLL that exposes a handful of methods that return void pointers to a Class like so: void *GetLicense() { static AppLicenseImpl ipds_; return (void *) &ipds_; } In C++, after loading the DLL, I'd do this to work with it: typedef void *(* FPGetLicense)(); GetLicense_ = (FPGetLicense)GetAddress("GetLicense"); license_ = (AppLicense *) GetLicense_(); license_->GetApplicationStatus(); // Load data so that other calls don't fail I can't figure out how to parallel that in Python. This gets me the pointer: d = ctypes.cdll.LoadLibrary('license.dll') d.GetLicense.restype = ctypes.c_void_p p = d.GetLicense() # returns ptr loc, something like 8791433660848L But I obviously can't call p.GetApplicationStatus() in Python. Does anyone have a suggestion on how I'd instantiate that Class the rest of the way in Python so that I can call GetApplicationStatus()?

But when I rotate my iphone then it is perfectly rotating in landscape mode. But I want to stop this rotation. If I rotate my iphone in landscape mode it's view should be in portrait mode. Please help me ASAP. Any suggestion will be acepted.

  I have to parse the XML file and build objects representation based on that, now once I get all these data I create entries in various database for these data objects. I have to do second pass over that for value as in the first pass all I could do is build the assets in various databases. and in second pass I get the values for all the data and put it in the database. I have a feeling that this can be done in a single pass but I just want to see what are your opinions. As I am just a student who started with professional work, experienced ppl please help. Can someone who have ideas or done similar work, please provide some light on the topic so that I can think over the possibility of the work and get the prototype going based on your suggestion. • “OnClick” action to asp.net dropdownlist item.

  My situation is a little strange I guess, suggestion of engineering is acceptable. I have a DropDownList, on my "user" creation, called "city". When I'm creating the user I can create other city, but for this I have a button which redirect to other page. So, ok. I've created the new City and now I click on my DropDownList of cities and guess what?! The field is not reloaded. My first idea is every that I click on DropDownList, reload the data, but I can't find some OnClick action for Asp.Net DropDownList. This is my question, some idea? Thanks in advance.

• Branch structure for a web site

  I was recently reading the TFS Branching Guide and it suggests a branch for every release. For a web site, there is only one "version" released at a time. In that case is it appropriate to have a single "Production" branch? Then, during the process of preparing for a release, you merge changes from the Main branch into Production. (As opposed to the suggestion to branch each release.) If you need to do a hotfix, do it in the Production branch, then reverse integrate into Main. Doing it this way allows you to keep configuration files for Production intact in the Production branch.

• GWT application not displaying data on Windows 7 Starter Edition

  I have a GWT application that works great on all platforms/browsers etc. Then we tried Windows 7 Starter Edition. For all browsers (Chrome, IE, Firefox) none of the dynamically displayed data appears in the application. We know that the machine is ok because Google Wave works fine and its also a GWT application. I'm at a loss. What could cause this to happen? I'd be grateful if you have a suggestion as to how to debug this. If so find the solution I'll post it.
