  • scripting fruityloops or propellerheads reason from VB or Python?

    I have both Fruityloops and Propellerheads Reason software synths on my Windows PC. Any way I can get at and script these from either Visual Basic or Python? Or at least send Midi messages to the synths from code? Update : attempts to use something like a "midi-mapper" (thanks for link MusiGenesis) don't seem to work. I don't think Reason or FL Studio act like standard GM Midi synths. Update 2 : If you're interested in this question, check out this too.

  • Javascript form validation on client side without server side - is it safe?

    Supose I have some form with javascript client side validation and no server side validation. If user disable javascript in his browser there will no be submit button so he can not send me any data without js enabled. But I do not know is there any way to change my validation instructions from client browser so he could send me untrusted data and make some damage to my database. Thanks in advance and sorry for my (possibly) obvious question!!!

  • Switch statements: do you need the last break? (Javascript mainly)

    When using a switch() statement, you add break; in between separate case: declarations. But what about the last one? Normally I just leave it off, but I'm wondering if this has some performance implication I'm not thinking about? I've been wondering about this for a while and don't see it asked elsewhere on Stack-O, but sorry if I missed it. I'm mainly asking this question regarding Javascript, although I'm guessing the answer will apply to all switch() statements.

  • Is it poor practice to build an SQL query using WHERE 1=1 AND ...

    I'm writing a script that builds an SQL query by concatenating the string and adding conditions to the WHERE clause as needed. Would it be better practice to use WHERE 1=1 so that the first condition is satisfied and the script can just concatenate an AND x = 'y' to the query, or should I write the extra code to check if a clause has been added and if not, add the AND ? Confusing question, I know. Let me know if I need to be more clear. Rob

    Hi! I want to use the systems available windows media player visualizers in my app. Apperently visualizers expose an IWMPEffects interface to the world. My question is how do I enumerate and create instances to the available visualizers on my system? Probably it's just a process of getting the cslid of the visualizers and then create the instance with CoCreateInstance. However I have no idea how to get these clsid's! Thanks!

I am looking for a rails plugin/gem that would easily do that, ie : current_user.backup() = backup_file current_user.restore(backup_file) = database import/replace I don't know if my question is very clear, but i would like to backup every user's related object (posts, comments, etc) and to be able to restore them from a backup file.     Not that I would want to use this practically (for many reasons) but out of strict curiousity I would like to know if there is a way to reverse order a string using LINQ and/or LAMBDA expressions in one line of code, without utilising any framework "Reverse" methods. e.g. string value = "reverse me"; string reversedValue = (....); and reversedValue will result in "em esrever" EDIT Clearly an impractical problem/solution I know this, so don't worry it's strictly a curiosity question around the LINQ/LAMBDA construct.

    I know this is a simple question but it's aggravating me. If I have a key/value pair in a collection but I can't seem to get the value out using the key. I can get the key using the value but not vice versa. Is there some magical way to accomplish this? For example: Dim CycleList As Collection Dim Value as String Set CycleList = New Collection CycleList.Add 1, "Some Value" Value = CycleList(1) I've also tried CycleList.Item(1) and it's the same result, Value = 1.
