  • C++ and C#, "Casting" Functions to Delegates, What's the scoop?

    - by Jacob G
    In C# 2.0, I can do the following: public class MyClass { delegate void MyDelegate(int myParam); public MyClass(OtherObject obj) { //THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART obj.SomeCollection.Add((MyDelegate)MyFunction); } private void MyFunction(int myParam); { //... } } Trying to implement the same thing in C++, it appears I have to do: MyDelegate del = gcnew MyDelegate(this, MyFunction); obj-SomeCollection-Add(del); Obviously I can create a new instance of the delegate in C# as well instead of what's going on up there. Is there some kind of magic going on in the C# world that doesn't exist in C++ that allows that cast to work? Some kind of magic anonymous delegate? Thanks.

  • More threads and orientation changes questions.

    - by synic
    When it comes to threads and orientation changes, it seems the normal thing to do is something like this: public class Bwent extends Activity { private static Bwent instance; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle icicle) { super.onCreate(icicle); instance = this; } //... That way, if you're making a network request with a thread, and someone changes the orientation of the phone, the thread will know to use the new Activity. However, is it possible that the thread could finish during the time Android is destroying the old Activity and creating a new one? Is there a moment in the process where the thread still might be pointing to the wrong Activity, or a partially destroyed activity? It seems like there shouldn't be, but even using a Handler created in the main thread, I'm having intermittent issues with a thread trying to update an object that no longer exists. It's rare, but it does happen.

  • Jetty servlet respons to Ajax always empty

    - by chris
    Hi I try to run a java server on Jetty which should respond to an ajax call. Unfortunately the response seems to be empty when I call it with ajax. When I call http://localhost:8081/?id=something I get an answer. The Java Server: public class Answer extends AbstractHandler { public void handle(String target, Request baseRequest, HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws IOException, ServletException { String id = request.getParameter("id"); response.setContentType("text/xml"); response.setHeader("Cache-Control", "no-cache"); response.setContentLength(19+id.length()); response.setStatus(HttpServletResponse.SC_OK); response.getWriter().write("<message>"+id+"</message>"); //response.setContentType("text/html;charset=utf-8"); response.flushBuffer(); baseRequest.setHandled(true); } public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception { Server server = new Server(8081); server.setHandler(new Answer()); server.start(); server.join(); } } The js and html: <html> <head> <script> var req; function validate() { var idField = document.getElementById("userid"); var url = "validate?id=" + encodeURIComponent(idField.value); if (typeof XMLHttpRequest != "undefined") { req = new XMLHttpRequest(); } else if (window.ActiveXObject) { req = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } req.open("GET", "http://localhost:8081?id=fd", true); req.onreadystatechange = callback; req.send(null); } function callback() { if (req.readyState == 4) { if (req.status == 200) { var message = req.responseXML.getElementsByTagName("message")[0]; document.getElementById("userid").innerHTML = "message.childNodes[0].nodeValue"; } } } </script> </head> <body onload="validate('foobar')"> <div id="userid">hannak</div> </body> </html> I'm actually don't know what I'm doing wrong here. Maybe someone has a good idea. greetings chris

  • Mask image does not appear on the screen

    - by Ponty
    I have imported to the library two images and have given them the custom class names MaskImage and MaskedImage. Then i write the code: package { import flash.display.*; public class MaskDemo extends Sprite { // Properties private var sprMaskedImage:Sprite; private var sprMaskImage:Sprite; private var bmMaskedImage:Bitmap; private var bmMaskImage:Bitmap; // Constructor public function MaskDemo() { do_magic(); } // Methods private function do_magic():void { bmMaskedImage = new Bitmap(new MaskedImage(0, 0)); bmMaskImage = new Bitmap(new MaskImage(0, 0)); sprMaskedImage = new Sprite(); sprMaskedImage.addChild(bmMaskedImage); sprMaskImage = new Sprite(); sprMaskImage.addChild(bmMaskImage); sprMaskedImage.mask = sprMaskImage; this.addChild(sprMaskImage); } } } But it does not appear anything on the display. Any ideas why is happening that?

  • How do I use a concatenation of 2 columns in a SQL DB in ASP.NET properly?

    - by user293357
    I'm using LinqToSql like this with a CheckBoxList in ASP.NET: var teachers = from x in dc.teachers select x; cbl.DataSource = teachers; cbl.DataTextField = "name"; cbl.DataValueField = "teacherID"; cbl.DataBind(); I want to display both "firstname" and "name" in the DataTextField however. I found this solution but I'm using LINQ: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/839223/concatenate-two-fields-in-a-dropdown How do I do this?

  • very simple delegate musing

    - by Ted
    Sometimes the simplest questions make me love C/C++ and C# more and more. Today sitting on the bus musing aout delegates I remembered reading somwhere you don't need to use the new keyword when instaniating a new delegate. For example: public static void SomeMethod(string message) { ... } ... public delegate void TestDelgate(string message); //Define a delegate ........... //create a new instance ..METHOD 1 TestDelgate t = new TestDelgate(SomeMethod); //OR another way to create a new instance ..METHOD 2 TestDelgate t = SomeMethod; //create a new instance ..METHOD 2 So todays questions are What happens under the hood in method 2. Does the compiler expand method 2 into method 1, hence writing TestDelgate t = SomeMethod; is just a shortcut for TestDelgate t = new TestDelgate(SomeMethod);, or is there another reason for the exsitence of method 2 Do you guys think method 1 or method 2 is better for readability (this is a subjective question, but I'd just like to get a unscientific feel of general opinion of stackoverflow :-))

  • Implementing Clonable in Java

    - by Artium
    In which cases should I use this way: public A clone() throws CloneNotSupportedException { A clone = (A)super.clone(); clone.x= this.x; return clone; } And in which cases should I use that way: public ShiftedStack clone() throws CloneNotSupportedException { return new A(this.x); } What should I do if x is final and I want to use the first way? Regarding the first way, I understand it like this: we clone the super class and up-cast it, leading to some members uninitialized. After this initialize these members. Is my understanding correct? Thank you.

  • ActionScript 2: Event doesn't fire?

    - by Pascal Schuster
    So I have a soundHandler class that's supposed to play sounds and then point back to a function on the timeline when the sound has completed playing. But somehow, only one of the sounds plays when I try it out. EDIT: After that sound plays, nothing happens, even though I have EventHandlers set up that are supposed to do something. Here's the code: import mx.events.EventDispatcher; class soundHandler { private var dispatchEvent:Function; public var addEventListener:Function; public var removeEventListener:Function; var soundToPlay; var soundpath:String; var soundtype:String; var prefix:String; var mcname:String; public function soundHandler(soundpath:String, prefix:String, soundtype:String, mcname:String) { EventDispatcher.initialize(this); _root.createEmptyMovieClip(mcname, 1); this.soundpath = soundpath; this.soundtype = soundtype; this.prefix = prefix; this.mcname = mcname; } function playSound(file, callbackfunc) { _root.soundToPlay = new Sound(_root.mcname); _global.soundCallbackfunc = callbackfunc; _root.soundToPlay.onLoad = function(success:Boolean) { if (success) { _root.soundToPlay.start(); } }; _root.soundToPlay.onSoundComplete = function():Void { trace("Sound Complete: "+this.soundtype+this.prefix+this.file+".mp3"); trace(arguments.caller); dispatchEvent({type:_global.soundCallbackfunc}); trace(this.toString()); trace(this.callbackfunction); }; _root.soundToPlay.loadSound("../sound/"+soundpath+"/"+soundtype+prefix+file+".mp3", true); _root.soundToPlay.stop(); } } Here's the code from the .fla file: var playSounds:soundHandler = new soundHandler("signup", "su", "s", "mcs1"); var file = "000"; playSounds.addEventListener("sixtyseconds", this); playSounds.addEventListener("transition", this); function sixtyseconds() { trace("I am being called! Sixtyseconds"); var phase = 1; var file = random(6); if (file == 0) { file = 1; } if (file<10) { file = "0"+file; } file = phase+file; playSounds.playSound(file, "transition"); } function transition() { trace("this works"); } playSounds.playSound(file, "sixtyseconds"); I'm at a total loss for this one. Have been wasting hours to figure it out already. Any help will be deeply appreciated.

  • Android: Prompt user to save changes when Back button is pressed

    - by chriskopec
    I have an activity that contains several user editable items (an EditText field, RatingBar, etc). I'd like to prompt the user if the back/home button is pressed and changes have been made that have not yet been saved. After reading through the android documentation, it seems like this piece of code should go in the onPause method. I've tried putting an AlertDialog in the onPause however the dialog gets shown and then immediately tears down because nothing is there to block the pause from completing. This is what I've come up with so far: @Override protected void onPause() { super.onPause(); AlertDialog ad = new AlertDialog.Builder(this).setMessage( R.string.rating_exit_message).setTitle( R.string.rating_exit_title).setCancelable(false) .setPositiveButton(android.R.string.ok, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) { // User selects OK, save changes to db } }).setNeutralButton(android.R.string.cancel, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) { // User selects Cancel, discard all changes } }).show(); } Am I on the right track or is there another way to accomplish what I'm trying to do here? Any help would be great!

  • PHP ORM's, multiple tables and efficiency

    - by sunwukung
    Let's say I have a data mapper function that aggregates multiple tables and generates an object instance from that data. The mapper has a typical save() method which delegates to update/insert. When the mapper executes save - ideally it isolates object fields that have been modified, thus preventing the code from blanket bombing the database. How would you go about this?

  • Sql Server as logging, best connection practise

    - by ozz
    I'm using SqlServer as logging. Yes this is wrong decision, there are better dbs for this requirement. But I have no other option for now. Logging interval is 3 logs per second. So I've static Logger class and it has static Log method. Using "Open Connection" as static member is better for performance. But what is the best implemantation of it? This is not that I know. public static class OzzLogger { static SqlConnection Con; static OzzLogger() { Con=ne SqlConnection(....); Con.Open(); } public static void Log(....) { Con.ExecuteSql(......); } } UPDATE I asked because of my old information. People say "connection pooling performance is enough". If there is no objection I'm closing the issue :)

  • How do I synchronize GUI-Elements?

    - by anonymous2500
    Hello, I have a little problem with my java-program. I wanna use Observer, to synchronize two GUIs. But I can't synchronize the JComponent / JButton elements. For example: I have a GUI-Class which implements the Observer-Class: public class GUI extends JFrame implements Observer I have a second "GUI"-Class which extends the JButton-Class and makes changes on a specific Button-Element. public class Karte extends JButton{ ... this.setEnabled(false); ... How do I synchronize this Button via Observable? I have already tried to use "extends Observable" in this class, but the "setEnabled()" method is explicit for the JButton-Class, which is not Observable! Can someone help? Thanks.

  • Two methods with different signatures, jquery is not calling correct method

    - by Lee
    There are two methods GetUserAssignedSystems() and GetUserAssignedSystems(string Id) These methods act very differently from each other. The problem is, when I want to call GetUserAssignedSystems(string Id), the parameter-less method is called. Here are the methods: [WebMethod] [ScriptMethod] public IEnumerable GetUserAssignedSystems(string cacId) { return Data.UserManager.GetUserAssingedSystems(cacId); } [WebMethod] [ScriptMethod] public IEnumerable GetUserAssignedSystems() { //do something else } Here is the jquery making the call: CallMfttService("ServiceLayer/UserManager.asmx/GetUserAssignedSystems", "{'cacId':'" + $('#EditUserCacId').val() + "'}", function(result) { for (var userSystem in result.d) { $('input[UserSystemID=' + result.d[userSystem] + ']').attr('checked', 'true'); } }); Any ideas why this method is being ignored?

  • Java: Allowing the child thread to kill itself on InterruptedException?

    - by Zombies
    I am using a ThreadPool via ExecutorService. By calling shutDownNow() it interrupts all running threads in the pool. When this happens I want these threads to give up their resources (socket and db connections) and simply die, but without continuing to run anymore logic, eg: inserting anything into the DB. What is the simplest way to achieve this? Bellow is some sample code: public void threadTest() { Thread t = new Thread(new Runnable() { public void run() { try { Thread.sleep(999999); } catch (InterruptedException e) { //invoke thread suicide logic here } } }); t.start(); t.interrupt(); try { Thread.sleep(4000); } catch (InterruptedException e) { } }

  • Can Fluent NHibernate be configured to use an arbitrary prefix on a property backing field?

    - by dommer
    I'm currently using a convention to (auto)map collection properties to backing fields in Fluent NHibernate. So, I map a property "Orders" to a field "_orders". The convention I'm using to do this is: public class HasManyAccessConvention : IHasManyConvention { public void Apply(IOneToManyCollectionInstance instance) { instance.Access.CamelCaseField(CamelCasePrefix.Underscore); } } Can I write a convention that maps a (collection) property to a field with a non-standard prefix (ignoring whether this is good coding practice for the present)? So, the property "Orders" would be mapped to "xyz_orders", for example. If so, how would I go about this?
