  • when to index on multiple keys in mongodb

    - by Evan
say I have an Item document with :price and :qty fields. I sometimes want to find all documents matching a given :price AND :qty, and at other times it will be either :price on its own or :qty on its own. I have already indexed the :price and :qty keys, but do I also need to create a compound index on both together or are the single key indexes enough?

  • Checking for 2 exepcted values in Junit

    - by Swift-Tuttle
Hi, I have a java program which throws an exception with 2 different messages for 2 different scenarios and I want the Junit test case to check for equality for both of these messages. As an example - public void amethod() { // do some processing if(scenario1 == true) { throw new MySystemException("An error occured due to case 1 being incorrect."); } else if(scenario2 == true) { throw new MySystemException("An error occured as case 2 could not be found"); } } Now the JUnit for this would be something like- public void testAMethod() { // do something assertEquals("Expected", "Actual"); } As I understand, in this above example, if I use the Scenario1 exception message the junit will fail when an exception is thrown for Scenario2 and vice versa. I would like to know if there is any other way provided in Junit by which I can use this one test method and check for both the messages for the test to pass? Something like an OR, if possible to provide the "Expected" value with both these expected message. I hope my query is clear enough. Thanks

  • How do I synchronize GUI-Elements?

    - by anonymous2500
Hello, I have a little problem with my java-program. I wanna use Observer, to synchronize two GUIs. But I can't synchronize the JComponent / JButton elements. For example: I have a GUI-Class which implements the Observer-Class: public class GUI extends JFrame implements Observer I have a second "GUI"-Class which extends the JButton-Class and makes changes on a specific Button-Element. public class Karte extends JButton{ ... this.setEnabled(false); ... How do I synchronize this Button via Observable? I have already tried to use "extends Observable" in this class, but the "setEnabled()" method is explicit for the JButton-Class, which is not Observable! Can someone help? Thanks.

  • Securing input of private / protected methods?

    - by ts
Hello, normally, all sane developers are trying to secure input of all public methods (casting to proper types, validating, sanitizing etc.) My question is: are you in your code validating also parameters passed to protected / private methods? In my opinion it is not necessary, if you securize properly parameters of public methods and return values from outside (other classes, db, user input etc...). But I am constantly facing frameworks and apps (ie. prestashop to name one) where validation is often repeated in method call, in method body and once again for securize returned value - which, I think, is creating performace overhead and is also a sign of bad design.

  • Sql Server as logging, best connection practise

    - by ozz
I'm using SqlServer as logging. Yes this is wrong decision, there are better dbs for this requirement. But I have no other option for now. Logging interval is 3 logs per second. So I've static Logger class and it has static Log method. Using "Open Connection" as static member is better for performance. But what is the best implemantation of it? This is not that I know. public static class OzzLogger { static SqlConnection Con; static OzzLogger() { Con=ne SqlConnection(....); Con.Open(); } public static void Log(....) { Con.ExecuteSql(......); } } UPDATE I asked because of my old information. People say "connection pooling performance is enough". If there is no objection I'm closing the issue :)

  • Not seeing Sync Block in Object Layout

    - by bob-bedell
It's my understanding the all .NET object instances begin with an 8 byte 'object header': a synch block (4 byte pointer into a SynchTableEntry table), and a type handle (4 byte pointer into the types method table). I'm not seeing this in VS 2010 RC's (CLR 4.0) debugger memory windows. Here's a simple class that will generate a 16 byte instance, less the object header. class Program { short myInt = 2; // 4 bytes long myLong = 3; // 8 bytes string myString = "aString"; // 4 byte object reference // 16 byte instance static void Main(string[] args) { new Program(); return; } } An SOS object dump tells me that the total object size is 24 bytes. That makes sense. My 16 byte instance plus an 8 byte object header. !DumpObj 0205b660 Name: Offset_Test.Program MethodTable: 000d383c EEClass: 000d13f8 Size: 24(0x18) bytes File: C:\Users\Bob\Desktop\Offset_Test\Offset_Test\bin\Debug\Offset_Test.exe Fields: MT Field Offset Type VT Attr Value Name 632020fc 4000001 10 System.Int16 1 instance 2 myInt 632050d8 4000002 4 System.Int64 1 instance 3 myLong 631fd2b8 4000003 c System.String 0 instance 0205b678 myString Here's the raw memory: 0x0205B660 000d383c 00000003 00000000 0205b678 00000002 ... And here are some annotations: offset 0 000d383c ;TypeHandle (pointer to MethodTable), 4 bytes offset 4 00000003 00000000 ;myLong, 8 bytes offset 12 0205b678 ;myString, 4 byte reference to address of "myString" on GC Heap offset 16 00000002 ;myInt, 4 bytes My object begins a address 0x0205B660. But I can only account for 20 bytes of it, the type handle and the instance fields. There is no sign of a synch block pointer. The object size is reported as 24 bytes, but the debugger is showing that it only occupies 20 bytes of memory. I'm reading Drill Into .NET Framework Internals to See How the CLR Creates Runtime Objects, and expected the first 4 bytes of my object to be a zeroed synch block pointer, as shown in Figure 8 of that article. Granted, this is an article about CLR 1.1. I'm just wondering if the difference between what I'm seeing and what this early article reports is a change in either the debugger's display of object layout, or in the way the CLR lays out objects in versions later than 1.1. Anyway, can anyone account for my 4 missing bytes?

  • very simple delegate musing

    - by Ted
Sometimes the simplest questions make me love C/C++ and C# more and more. Today sitting on the bus musing aout delegates I remembered reading somwhere you don't need to use the new keyword when instaniating a new delegate. For example: public static void SomeMethod(string message) { ... } ... public delegate void TestDelgate(string message); //Define a delegate ........... //create a new instance ..METHOD 1 TestDelgate t = new TestDelgate(SomeMethod); //OR another way to create a new instance ..METHOD 2 TestDelgate t = SomeMethod; //create a new instance ..METHOD 2 So todays questions are What happens under the hood in method 2. Does the compiler expand method 2 into method 1, hence writing TestDelgate t = SomeMethod; is just a shortcut for TestDelgate t = new TestDelgate(SomeMethod);, or is there another reason for the exsitence of method 2 Do you guys think method 1 or method 2 is better for readability (this is a subjective question, but I'd just like to get a unscientific feel of general opinion of stackoverflow :-))

  • WPF List of ViewModels bound to list of Model objects.

    - by Eric
In the model, I have: public ObservableCollection<Item> Items { get; private set; } In the ViewModel, I have a corresponding list of ItemViewModels: public ObservableCollection<ItemViewModel> ItemViewModels ... In the XAML, I will bind (in this case a TreeView) to the ItemViewModels property. My question is, what goes in the "..." in the ViewModel shown above? I am hoping for a line or two of code to binds these two ObservableCollections (providing the type of the ViewModel to construct for each model object). However, what I'm fearing is necessary is a bunch of code to handle the Items.CollectionChanged event and manually updates the ItemViewModels list by constructing ViewModels as necessary. Thanks! • Symfony 1.3: different form filters generated

    - by user248959
Hi, i have this class in rs1/lib/filter/doctrine/FelizFormFilter.class.php <?php /** * Feliz filter form. * * @package rs * @subpackage filter * @author Your name here * @version SVN: $Id: sfDoctrineFormFilterTemplate.php 23810 2009-11-12 11:07:44Z Kris.Wallsmith $ */ class FelizFormFilter extends BaseFelizFormFilter { public function configure() { } } and this in rs2/lib/filter/doctrine/FelizFormFilter.class.php <?php /** * Feliz filter form. * * @package filters * @subpackage Feliz * * @version SVN: $Id: sfDoctrineFormFilterTemplate.php 11675 2008-09-19 15:21:38Z fabien $ */ class FelizFormFilter extends BaseFelizFormFilter { public function configure() { } } Both were generated using "php symfony doctrine:build --all --and-load" and the version of symfony is 1.3.4 in both. This is the schema of both cases: Feliz: columns: name: string(20) Could you tell me why are different? One more thing in Eclipse: when i go with the mouse pointer to the word "BaseFelizFormFilter", in the second case (rs2) the yellow window with the information about the class is showed, but in the first case that yellow popup is not showed. Why? Javi

  • C++ and C#, "Casting" Functions to Delegates, What's the scoop?

    - by Jacob G
In C# 2.0, I can do the following: public class MyClass { delegate void MyDelegate(int myParam); public MyClass(OtherObject obj) { //THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART obj.SomeCollection.Add((MyDelegate)MyFunction); } private void MyFunction(int myParam); { //... } } Trying to implement the same thing in C++, it appears I have to do: MyDelegate del = gcnew MyDelegate(this, MyFunction); obj-SomeCollection-Add(del); Obviously I can create a new instance of the delegate in C# as well instead of what's going on up there. Is there some kind of magic going on in the C# world that doesn't exist in C++ that allows that cast to work? Some kind of magic anonymous delegate? Thanks.

  • Jetty servlet respons to Ajax always empty

    Hi I try to run a java server on Jetty which should respond to an ajax call. Unfortunately the response seems to be empty when I call it with ajax. When I call http://localhost:8081/?id=something I get an answer. The Java Server: public class Answer extends AbstractHandler { public void handle(String target, Request baseRequest, HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws IOException, ServletException { String id = request.getParameter("id"); response.setContentType("text/xml"); response.setHeader("Cache-Control", "no-cache"); response.setContentLength(19+id.length()); response.setStatus(HttpServletResponse.SC_OK); response.getWriter().write("<message>"+id+"</message>"); //response.setContentType("text/html;charset=utf-8"); response.flushBuffer(); baseRequest.setHandled(true); } public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception { Server server = new Server(8081); server.setHandler(new Answer()); server.start(); server.join(); } } The js and html: <html> <head> <script> var req; function validate() { var idField = document.getElementById("userid"); var url = "validate?id=" + encodeURIComponent(idField.value); if (typeof XMLHttpRequest != "undefined") { req = new XMLHttpRequest(); } else if (window.ActiveXObject) { req = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } req.open("GET", "http://localhost:8081?id=fd", true); req.onreadystatechange = callback; req.send(null); } function callback() { if (req.readyState == 4) { if (req.status == 200) { var message = req.responseXML.getElementsByTagName("message")[0]; document.getElementById("userid").innerHTML = "message.childNodes[0].nodeValue"; } } } </script> </head> <body onload="validate('foobar')"> <div id="userid">hannak</div> </body> </html> I'm actually don't know what I'm doing wrong here.   • Android: Prompt user to save changes when Back button is pressed

    - by chriskopec
I have an activity that contains several user editable items (an EditText field, RatingBar, etc). I'd like to prompt the user if the back/home button is pressed and changes have been made that have not yet been saved. After reading through the android documentation, it seems like this piece of code should go in the onPause method. I've tried putting an AlertDialog in the onPause however the dialog gets shown and then immediately tears down because nothing is there to block the pause from completing. This is what I've come up with so far: @Override protected void onPause() { super.onPause(); AlertDialog ad = new AlertDialog.Builder(this).setMessage( R.string.rating_exit_message).setTitle( R.string.rating_exit_title).setCancelable(false) .setPositiveButton(android.R.string.ok, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) { // User selects OK, save changes to db } }).setNeutralButton(android.R.string.cancel, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) { // User selects Cancel, discard all changes } }).show(); } Am I on the right track or is there another way to accomplish what I'm trying to do here? Any help would be great!
