• How can I make a read-only ObservableCollection property?

  I'd like to expose a property on a view model that contains a list of objects (from database). I need this collection to be read-only. That is, I want to prevent Add/Remove, etc. But allow the foreach and indexers to work. My intent is to declare a private field holding the editable collection and reference it with a read-only Public Property. As follows public ObservableCollection<foo> CollectionOfFoo { get { return _CollectionOfFoo; } } However, that syntax just prevents changing the reference to the collection. It doesn't prevent add/remove, etc. What is the right way to accomplish this?

  Say I have an enum something like: enum OrderStatus { AwaitingAuthorization, InProduction, AwaitingDespatch } I've also created an extension method on my enum to tidy up the displayed values in the UI, so I have something like: public static string ToDisplayString(this OrderStatus status) { switch (status) { case Status.AwaitingAuthorization: return "Awaiting Authorization"; case Status.InProduction: return "Item in Production"; ... etc } } Inspired by the excellent post here, I want to bind my enums to a SelectList with an extension method: public static SelectList ToSelectList<TEnum>(this TEnum enumObj) however, to use the DisplayString values in the UI drop down I'd need to add a constraint along the lines of : where TEnum has extension ToDisplayString Obviously none of this is going to work at all with the current approach, unless there's some clever trick I don't know about. Does anyone have any ideas about how I might be able to implement something like this?

The class looks like a Java interface.   I have a model which is accessible through the Django admin area, something like the following: # model class Foo(models.Model): field_a = models.CharField(max_length=100) field_b = models.CharField(max_length=100) # admin.py class FooAdmin(admin.ModelAdmin): pass Let's say that I want to show field_a and field_b if the user is adding an object, but only field_a if the user is editing an object. Is there a simple way to do this, perhaps using the fields attribute? If if comes to it, I could hack a JavaScript solution, but it doesn't feel right to do that at all!

  I've got a abstract class class A { public: virtual void somefunction() = ; }; and some different classes that inherit this class: class Ab { public: void somefunction(); }; etc. I want to make a vector containing some objects of these classes (how many depends on input parameters) so I can access these easily later. However I'm a bit lost on how to do this. My best idea is vector<A> *objectsVector; Ab AbObject; objectsVector.push_back(AbObject); However this gives me a huge amout of errors from various .h files in /usr/include/c++ How should i solve this?

  I use SSL certificate for a web site I set up in Amazon EC2 Machine Instance. The SSL certificate is for one domain name, which is not public DNS for the Amazon Machine Instance. The browser always complains the mismatch in the domain name because it compares the domain name of the SSL certificate to the Amazon public DNS. How can I set up not to cause this problem? I tried both domain name forwarding and A Record setting. Maybe it's because I'm not so familiar with Amazon EC2 and I haven't configured domain name correctly. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

• C# .NET Why does my inherited listview keep drawing in LargeIcon View ?? Because Microsoft is Evil!!

  I have a inherited Listview which standard has to be in Tile Mode. When using this control, the DrawItem gives e.bounds which are clearly bounds of largeIcon view ?? When debugging to check the view it is actually set to, it says it's in Tile view ?? Yet e.DrawText draws LargeIcon view ?? ......... Edit: ................. This seems only to happen when the control is placed upon another usercontrol? ......... Edit 2: ................. It gets stranger ... When i add buttons next to the list to change the view at runtime, "Tile" is the same as "LargeIcon", and "List" view is the same as "SmallIcons" ??? I've also completely removed the ownerdraw ... .......... Edit 3: ................. MSDN Documentation: Tile view Each item appears as a full-sized icon with the item label and subitem information to the right of it. The subitem information that appears is specified by the application. This view is available only on Windows XP and the Windows Server 2003 family. On earlier operating systems, this value is ignored and the ListView control displays in the LargeIcon view. Well I am on XP ya damn liars ?!? • C++/CLI and C#, "Casting" Functions to Delegates, What's the scoop?

  In C# 2.0, I can do the following: public class MyClass { delegate void MyDelegate(int myParam); public MyClass(OtherObject obj) { //THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART obj.SomeCollection.Add((MyDelegate)MyFunction); } private void MyFunction(int myParam); { //... } } Trying to implement the same thing in C++/CLI, it appears I have to do: MyDelegate del = gcnew MyDelegate(this, MyFunction); obj-SomeCollection-Add(del); Obviously I can create a new instance of the delegate in C# as well instead of what's going on up there. Is there some kind of magic going on in the C# world that doesn't exist in C++/CLI that allows that cast to work? Some kind of magic anonymous delegate? Thanks.

  I am writing some eclipse emf code and would like to print the content of an EObject (not store it to disk). Question: Can I some how set FlushMode to ALWAYS in session factory or somewhere else to avoid repeating session.flush() call? All DB calls in DAO goes with HibernateTemplate instance. • Update database using restful ASP.NET MVC 1.0

  We are building an MVC 1.0 application right now and using Linq - SQL for our DAL. Following the restful approach we have multiple action events depending on if you are updating or loading or what not. The two that I'm concerned with at this point are the edit and update action methods. Here is the signatures. public ActionResult Update(int customerId, int Id, AggregateModel viewModel) public ActionResult Edit(int customerId, int Id, AggregateModel viewModel) So the idea is that in the Edit method we load up our viewModel and pass it to the view. The user makes changes to the model and then posts back to the Update method. The first thing I could think of to do would be to get the viewModel from the database again, copy the changes in one by one from the posted back model and then submit it back. This would work but does seem clunky to me. What is the best way to insert those changes into the database at this point?
