• Windows Internet Connection Issue (HELP)

  I have a windows 8 hp dual booting ubuntu. When i log onto windows i cant get on the internet... But skype and other applications can just now webpages in a browser what so ever (this is on windows 8). But on ubuntu i have no internet issues at all. From what i see right now its only the browsers in windows 8 that cant get the internet, and ive tried all the browsers i had (chrome, ie, firefox) and they cant connect but in the win8 notification area it says im connected. I can even ping via cmd. HELP! Thanks. Whats not working is that i cant get access the internet through the windows 8 broswer.

• route command not being executed in rc.local

  I tried adding route add -net 224.0.0.0 netmask 240.0.0.0 dev eth0 to my Fedora rc.local file, but it's not being executed when Fedora boots up. What can I do to fix this? update: i changed to the full path cmd in my rc.local /sbin/route add -net 224.0.0.0 netmask 240.0.0.0 dev eth0 but its not being executed. I change it to sudo /sbin/route add -net 224.0.0.0 netmask 240.0.0.0 dev eth0 it still doesnt work although it works when i manually enter it in the terminal.

  I've several problems maintaining large production servers, in which some developers drop files from Windows environments, sometime with BOM-bytes (We use UTF8, and no need for that), causing lots of troubles. Other times, I got a "no end of line" and "[DOS]" labels when vim-editing files directly on the server. I recently discovered how to find for the bom byte, and how to delete it in a batch script. What about illegal bytes, bad EOLs? Is it safe to use DOS Text Files on a linux environment? Any drawbacks If I use to convert them with dos2unix cmd ? Regards

  I busted my keyboard on my laptop, and now my computer rarely starts since it doesnt ignore this problem when booting. So what i want to do, is to disable my keyboard from the boot menu. But I cant access the boot menu since my keyboard doesnt work. I have an addtional keybaord via USB but that one doesnt work before windows is booted. So in short, what I want is to access my laptops boot menu now when im on windows via cmd, but im not sure how to do it.

I tried adding a exe file to startup folder. But he is loading some 2-3 thing and then my app and I see windows desktop normally. Is it possible to load it directly?   I'm trying to setup a pivoting relay with netcat on Windows, replicating a scenario easily possible by using pipes in Linux. Assume machine A can route to machine B and machine B can route to machine C. If machine A needs to route to machine C, we can setup a relay on machine B which can pivot data back and forth for us using command redirectors and spl filetype pipe. Assume: machine C has nc -nlvp 3306 -e cmd.exe machine A has nc -nlvp 80 IF machine B was Linux we could have done mkfifo pipe nc -nv 127.0.0.1 80 0<pipe | nc -nv 127.0.0.1 3306 1>pipe so on machine B if we do nc -nv 127.0.0.1 80 0<&4 | nc -nv 127.0.0.1 3306 1>&4 Per this site, I should be able to achieve what I can with Linux, but unfortunately it is not working.

• Why does Notepad "randomly" make pasted text a smaller font size?

  Sometimes when I copy and paste text into Notepad, it will paste the text in the default Notepad font and size, however, the latter half of the pasted line will be multiple font sizes smaller. I'm stumped as to why this is happening. I wondered if it was perhaps some type of hidden formatting that was being copied into Notepad, but I believe that Notepad strips the formatting. I've subsequently taken the same text and tried copy and pasting it into URL bars and CMD prompts to strip any potential formatting (even though it was plaintext copied from web), and then re-pasted into Notepad, but it still leaves this phenomenon. Additionally, when resizing the Notepad window, it will change what portion of the line is default sized and downsized, as seen in the screenshot posted below. The three windows are actually the same Notepad window, each with a different resizing and the resulting text resizing.

  I just installed Ubuntu to get more familiar with it since I'll be using it in a new job shortly. I use Macs at home and in my current job, so I'd like to make it as Mac-like as possible. I've remapped the command and control characters using the following .xmodmap: remove control = Control_L Control_R remove mod4 = Super_L Super_R add control = Super_L Super_R add mod4 = Control_L Control_R Which works great for everything except the terminal, since Ctrl-C is now mapped to CMD-C, and still conflicts with what I'd like to use to copy. Is there any way I can remap the Control key just for the terminal? I'm willing to consider gnome-terminal alternatives if required.

• Resize windows command line prompt?

  I'm working on a Windows xp machine. I wrote a program in assembly that outputs some text, and am trying to create a screenshot of the command line output (start-run-"cmd"). The problem is that the text initially printed by the program gets pushed up by later text and I cannot scroll to it. I tried playing around with the width and height under properties = layout but it seems to resize the window itself (the borders) without resizing the textarea inside the window (text does not have more "room", but the window is bigger). Does anybody know a workaround/solution for this? Thank you!

In scheduler I run it every 5 minutes. robocopy.exe Z:\ C:\destination /E I've tried to put it to .bat file, tried to write in scheduler, it doesn't help. I've set run with highest privilegies... Task Scheduler successfully completed task "\RoboCopy" , instance "{dd2d2d1c-4ef1-4e30-b226-4a77aa52dab9}" , action "C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\cmd.exe" with return code 16.

  Is it possible to use Puppet on Windows where UAC is enabled? Does Puppet have any method for automatically saying yes to UAC prompts for a software install? My module does the following workflow: Downloads an MSI file locally from the Puppetmaster Creates a local batch file using template function which does cmd.exe /c msifile.msi /i /quiet .... Runs bat file in an Exec. Unfortunately, it fails due to UAC, I am wondering how people are working around UAC in their Windows Puppet environments. The Puppet documentation seems to only talk about Puppet's own executable in regards to UAC.

• Time of splitting and encoding video with ffmpeg increases exponentially

  I'm trying to split video by subtitles and encode into .mp4(h.264/aac) using ffmpeg, but it takes so much time! First pieces of video are splited and encoded really fast, but for each iteration time increases, and so 40 min video takes all night or more. Small 3 min video takes max 10 mins. cmd for splitting and encoding: ffmpeg -i filename.avi -ss 00:00:0(time of sub start) -t 0:0:3(time of sub duration) -acodec libfaac -vcodec libx264 -bf 0 -f mp4 filename.mp4 ffmpeg version N-34849-g07c7ffc (last, i think) How I can make it faster? Are there, maybe, some magic arguments for ffmpeg or some hacks?

• Program for scanning, saving and restoring window position?

  Is there some program for scanning, saving and restoring last window position? For example at this moment i have opened five window first is google chrome which is not opened at full screean but at half of display, second is notepad which is on right side, and third is cmd which is under notepad. So I want to use this combination of "layout" when primary using google chrome (surfing at internet), but if working primary at other program let's say word (writting text) i want to use other program and at different position (cause is effectivly). So the point is to easy switching from one "layout" to another. (Like in many program that support more modes, for example visual studio - debug layout, - coding layout, etc ...)

• Win xp reinstall now I am unable to connect to broadband what shall I select to do this?

  Hello, My hardrive was failing so I needed to reinstall win xp. I completed the reinstall and the drivers but now only the wireless connection works. The broadband states connected but does not go out to the interenet. When I click Internet Explorer it says unable to find webpage. I have tried several major sites so I know its not the site but some configuration or something I need to do on my end. When I go to the cmd prompt and renew the ip it refers to my wireless nothing about this broadband connection. What do I type/select to get this to go out to the Internet. The broadband is working for my other laptop so I know the connection is not the issue. Any help would be much appreciated thank you.

  Hi All, I have an administrator account on a Windows 7 x64 machine. It is not THE administrator account, the account is simply a member of the administrators group. The install is default. When the user opens a command prompt it ends up in the users' %HOMEPATH% directory where you'll find various directories like the Documents folder. If the user uses the following (windows) FIND command, an "Access Denied" error occurs: FIND /I "My String" C:\Users\Rann\Documents Access denied - C:\USERS\RANN\DOCUMENTS Using runas or right-clicking on the command prompt to run it as an administrator does not change this behaviour; an administrator-level cmd.exe still gives me the same error. Changing the path to any other directory gives the same error. My question is thus: How is one supposed to use the FIND (and possibly other) commands? What rights are needed?

• Configure firewalld for OpenVPN (server-bridge) in Fedora 20

  I've installed an OpenVPN server (server-bridge) on Fedora 20, but I cannot get it to work. I'm almost sure that It's a firewall issue. I'm trying to connect from an OSX client, but I can connect (just connect to VPN server, without access to anything) before the bridge is configured in server, however once I configure the bridge interface (using this script), then I cannot connect anymore. I've configured it as server-bridge, following these HOW-TOs from Fedora and OpenVPN Ethernet-Bridge. The firewall config is explained using iptables: iptables -A INPUT -i tap0 -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -i br0 -j ACCEPT iptables -A FORWARD -i br0 -j ACCEPT However, in Fedora 20, by default, It's installed firewalld, so, Can anyone tell me the equivalent commands using firewall-cmd ? I read the firewalld guide, but It's not clear to me how to achieve it (I'm a developer, no SysAdmin). I know that I can install iptables, but I want it to work with firewalld.

  I wanted to restrict access of other people in a certain drive of my computer. What I did was go to the Security Tab (under Drive Properties) and remove the All Users entry. My account is an administrator account. I left only Systems and Administrator on the list. However, when I tried to access drive D, I got an Access Denied error, and Security Tab is already missing.i resolved the problem using safe mode way but i got another problem, I'd used command prompt to hide(attrib) a folder in drive D but i can't access it, though i can access all other files. • Windows command FOR /F isn't working?

  I'm trying to use the FOR command in Windows XP's command line. I have a file temp.txt with 3 lines: temp1 temp2 temp3 And I'm typing the following command at the prompt: for /F %p in (temp.txt) do echo Testing %p Nothing comes back. If I remove the /F parameter, the output is Testing temp.txt. As far as I can determine, I'm using the command exactly as it is documented by Microsoft. I've checked my registry to make sure Command Extensions are on, and even started a new shell with cmd /e:on to be doubly sure. What am I doing wrong? Yes, I was doing something wrong. The file temp.txt wasn't created from scratch, I just edited it to put in my test content. Unfortunately when I created the file the first time, I saved it with a UTF-8 marker at the front. Recreating the file as plain text solved the problem.

  hi, i'm trying to repair my windows xp and it fails to reboot (bad sector or something). i'm using my dell recovery disk and then select the "Repair" option which takes me to the command line application when i can browse my files and folders (like with cmd.exe). however, when i'm trying to access the "Documents and settings" folder, it gives me access denied. is there any way to override it? is there any other way to access my documents and settings through other method? I'm just trying to recover some files and copy them to another drive on my computer and then reinstall my winxp. Thanks for the help

• PING through batch file (looping problem)

  I created a .BAT file in Windows 7 that has the following lines: PING XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX -t (XXX replaces the actual IP number). However, when I double click on this batch file, I can see the PING command repeatedly being executed in a loop. I even tried to rename the .BAT to .CMD but the result is the same. I want to avoid writing PING command through the Command Prompt, which is why I created the batch file. I don't know why the PING command is being continuously called when the same statement is put in a batch file.

• Silverlight 4 + MVVM + KeyDown event

  I'm trying to build a sample game in Silverlight 4 using the MVVM design pattern to broaden my knowledge. I'm using Laurent Bugnion's MvvmLight toolkit as well (found here: http://mvvmlight.codeplex.com/ ). All I want to do right now is move a shape around within a Canvas by pressing specific keys. My solution contains a Player.xaml (just a rectangle; this will be moved around) and MainPage.xaml (the Canvas and an instance of the Player control). To my understanding, Silverlight doesn't support tunneling routed events, only bubbling. My big problem is that Player.xaml never recognizes the KeyDown event. It's always intercepted by MainPage.xaml first and it never reaches any child controls because it bubbles upward. I'd prefer that the logic to move the Player be in the PlayerViewModel class, but I don't think the Player can know about any KeyDown events firing without me explicitly passing them on down from the MainPage. I ended up adding the handler logic to the MainPageViewModel class. Now my problem is that the MainPageViewModel has no knowledge of Player.xaml so it cannot move this object when handling KeyDown events. I guess this is expected, as ViewModels should not have any knowledge of their associated Views. In not so many words...is there a way this Player user control within my MainPage.xaml can directly accept and handle KeyDown events? If not, what's the ideal method for my MainPageViewModel to communicate with its View's child controls? I'm trying to keep code out of the code-behind files as much as possible. Seems like it's best to put logic in the ViewModels for ease of testing and to decouple UI from logic.   I'm trying to set up a test environment with Maven to build VC++ and I am way behind on this. So now to get this working in Maven2 with the Mojo-native plugin.
