  • Allow X Client Display through TCP on Lucid

    On Karmic, to allow other PCs to open and X-Window on a station, one had to edit /etc/gdm.conf and change DisallowTCP to false. That file no longer exists on Lucid. I tried changing an entry in /etc/gdm/gdm.schemas (XML format) but that did not make a difference. Any ideas on where to go for this?

  • Firefox or IE crashes when I try to print

  • Installing Windows 7 on a netbook using SanDisk USB Cruzer

    I have this weird problem with my SanDisk USB Cruzer maybe someone can help me... I removed U3 software I used diskpart.exe to "activate" my partition yet when I restart my computer and select to boot off of USB it won't boot, my computer freezes and nothing is happening after that. any ideas what am I doing wrong?

  • KeyPass - KeyPassHttp refuses to be recognised as a plugin

    I'm trying to make KeyPass run on my Windows 7 machine, I've downloaded and installed KeePass, aim to use it alongside Passifox However, downloading and copying the KeePassHttp executable to the C:\Program Files (x86)\KeePass Password Safe folder, however it refuses to show up in the KeyPass plugins window. Please help, I've tried download KeePassHttp using multiple links from github and passifox itself using Firefox and even wget. Also I've tried pinging http://localhost:19455 but nothing was found. Any ideas I'm at a loss.

  • Can't connect to FTP sites

    This started happening when I installed Windows 7. I've tried with Filezilla and with the FireFTP Firefox plugin, and I could never connect. Filezilla gave the error message "ECONNREFUSED - Connection refused by server". I tried disabling the Windows Firewall, but no luck. Any ideas on what might be causing this? I just discovered that I can connect with web services like net2ftp, but not with FTP clients.

  • Run verilog on Mac

    I need to simulate verilog on my Macbook Pro for school. I've tried downloading, configuring, and installing icarus and veriwell. The make test works for icarus, but not for veriwell, neither of them are recognized by the terminal. The command I'm using is: iverilog hello.vl and veriwell hello.vl Terminal claims that neither of these commands exist... I'm very new at configuring tools with the terminal, but I think the issue is just USING the program afterwards. Any ideas?

  • Missing Libraries in Windows 7

    My friends Windows 7 x64 system is not displaying the sub-folders of libraries tab in windows explorer pane. See below: Whenever he or I click on the arrow next to the tab it opens nothing and clicking on the folder show what you see above. However if I click on the documents tab from the start menu, it brings up the documents folder. The Libraries tab on the left pane doesn't work though from that either. Any ideas?

  • Mac OS X : Why does chown report "Operation not permitted"?

    I am trying to do the following on my Mac (10.6.7) : sudo chown myusername:wheel ./entries but Unix/Mac is returning "Operation not permitted". When I ls -lash, the culprit file, it looks as follows: 8 -rwxrwxrwx 1 myusername staff 394B Apr 26 23:26 entries I've tried sudo, I've tried sudo su, nothing works? Any ideas what's up? The files I'm trying to chmod I've copied from my old Ubuntu box, most of the files have successfully chmodded recursively, just this one is stuck and I don't understand why.

  • Windows 8 screen goes black after a minute

    My laptop screen goes black after about a minute of inactivity. I've already tried setting the Screen Saver to anything other than Blank and increasing the Wait but it still keeps happening. Also checked my Power Options, the plan I currently have is set to turn the screen off only after an hour. If I move the mouse or press any key on the keyboard the screen wakes up. Any other ideas why this is happening and how to fix it?

    I'm trying to lock down a kiosk PC and need to disable various 'Ctrl + key' keyboard shortcuts. I started by disabling them individually using AutoHotkey... ^F4::return ^w::return ^+w::return ^Esc::return ^+Esc::return ;etc... but keep discovering new ones shortcuts (did you know that 'Ctrl + Q' in IE8 displays a tab thumbnail page). So I tried to disable the Ctrl key completely using stuff like: LCtrl::return RCtrl::return ~Ctrl::return ^::return with no luck. Any ideas?

    I have a directory setup as follows: /hosted/partner1/logo.png /hosted/partner2/logo.png /hosted/partner3/logo.png /hosted/partner4/logo.png /hosted/partner5/logo.png ..etc. I want to write a script that can COPY those files to a different location, with a different file name, like this: /partners/partner1.png /partners/partner2.png /partners/partner3.png ..etc. Any ideas? I'm not so great with shell scripting and there are a lot of files that I need to migrate to a single directory...

    situation: server with RAID 1 (2x1000GB) currently logged in via SSH (network based debian rescue cd) need to accomplish: install a debian based Xen (maybe with: http://wiki.xen.org/xenwiki/LiveCD ?) keep RAID 1 problem: I have no physical access to the server, so i can't just drop in a cd or plug-in a usb drive. Does anyone have an ideas (or a tutorial handy) on how I can mount the LiveCD (on a read-only rescue-cd??) and the install the distru without breaking the RAID?

  • Win-XP Browsers Hang on page load - (waiting for...)

    Hello, I’m having problems with my browsers hanging on loading pages on my desktop machine. I’m using Windows XP Pro with SP3 and fully updated except for IE 8. All three of my browsers, IE 7, Chrome and Firefox are having the same problems. Pages are not being loaded and are hanging on “waiting for …”. The browsers are waiting for the page being loaded or ad servers. Sometimes a page will load but the loading graphic continues to be displayed as if the page were still loading when the page appears to be fully loaded. The problem is bad enough that I can’t really use any of my browsers. I can eventually get most pages to load by stopping and restarting the page load. I have DSL modem with a wireless router and I have been able to eliminate the modem and router from being the source of my problem. My laptop doesn’t have any problems even when hardwired to the router and with the wireless connection disabled. I deleted the NIC and let XP re-install. Also tried a different network cable. Tried the same router port used in the laptop test. One clue that may be important is that I can’t connect to my router using the desktop machine…the page hangs while trying to connect. I can ping the router and I can quickly connect to the router using the laptop. I also can’t use the Windows update process – the page never fully loads. The problem affects other user accounts and even happens in safe mode. I am convinced the problem is with part of the O/S…some layer able to affect all of the browsers. The purpose of this post is to see if anyone has some ideas before I do a XP repair. I have done quite a bit of trouble-shooting: Ran a full anti-virus scan with AVG – no problems. Ran full scans with Spybot, MalwareBytes and Sophos anti-rootkit – no problems. Ran Chkdsk with both options checked. Ran Disk Clean up Defragged RE-installed IE7 Cleared all the browser caches Ran Ccleaner (registry tool) Ran HijackThis – nothing unusual (problem happens in safe mode too) Ran Process Explorer – no unusual processes Used System Restore and fell back several days – no change in the problem Booted to last known good configuration – no change in the problem Ran MicrosoftFixit50199.msi – no change in the problem Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated…I’m not looking forward to doing a repair on XP. I created my public and private key on my server, but I can't work out how to set up digital signing with Windows Live Mail.   • How to prevent the "other user" from appearing on the logon screen of a server?

    When I want to log into a server console (Server 2008 R2), I click Ctrl+Alt+Del and get "Other User" that I need to click before I get the log in box to add my credentials. This wouldnt be so bad, but I want to use this server as a Citrix server and so far every user that tries to connect has to click other user before they can add thier own credentials.. Has anyone got any ideas on ewhat I can do to get this to go straight to the username and password without the extra click?
