  • Measuring time taken to display an object in Flex

    - by dta
    For e.g. function showIt():void { something.visible = true; } function init():void { time1 = flash.utils.getTimer(); showIt(); time2 = flash.utils.getTimer(); } <mx:st id="something" visible="false"/> <mx:Button click="init()"/> In the above code, I want to measure the time taken to display st on screen. Is it enough to compute time2 - time1? Or should I put an event handler on render? Or some other way?

  • Searching within an array of strings...

    - by SoLoGHoST
    Ok, I'm feeling retarded here, I have a string like so: $string = 'function module_testing{'; or it could be like this: $string = 'function module_testing'; And than I have an array of strings like so: $string_array = array('module_testing', 'another_function', 'and_another_function'); Now, is there some sort of preg_match that I can do to test if any of the $string_array values are found within the $string string at any given position? So in this situation, there would be a match. Or is there a better way to do this? I can't use in_array since it's not an exact match, and I'd rather not do a foreach loop on it if I can help it, since it's already in a while loop. Thanks :)

  • jQuery noob: transfer not transferring..

    I made an example, I copied it straight from the jQuery website yet, it doesn't transfer.. HTML: <div class="addToCart"> BLAHHHH </div> <br> <br> <br> <br> <div class="handelv"> MORE BLAAAHH </div>? jQuery: $(document).ready(function() { $(".addToCart").click(function () { var i = 1 - $(".addToCart").index(this); $(this).effect("transfer", { to: $(".handelv").eq(i) }, 1000); }); });?   • Remove redundant entries, scala way

    - by andersbohn
    Edit: Added the fact, that the list is sorted, and realizing 'duplicate' is misleading, replaced that with 'redundant' in the title. I have a sorted list of entries stating a production value in a given interval. Entries stating the exact same value at a later time adds no information and can safely be left out. case class Entry(minute:Int, production:Double) val entries = List(Entry(0, 100.0), Entry(5, 100.0), Entry(10, 100.0), Entry(20, 120.0), Entry(30, 100.0), Entry(180, 0.0)) Experimenting with the scala 2.8 collection functions, so far I have this working implementation: entries.foldRight(List[Entry]()) { (entry, list) => list match { case head :: tail if (entry.production == head.production) => entry :: tail case head :: tail => entry :: list case List() => entry :: List() } } res0: List[Entry] = List(Entry(0,100.0), Entry(20,120.0), Entry(30,100.0), Entry(180,0.0)) Any comments? Am I missing out on some scala magic?

  • python unit testing os.remove fails file system

    - by hwjp
    Am doing a bit of unit testing on a function which attempts to open a new file, but should fail if the file already exists. when the function runs sucessfully, the new file is created, so i want to delete it after every test run, but it doesn't seem to be working: class MyObject_Initialisation(unittest.TestCase): def setUp(self): if os.path.exists(TEMPORARY_FILE_NAME): try: os.remove(TEMPORARY_FILE_NAME) except WindowsError: #TODO: can't figure out how to fix this... #time.sleep(3) #self.setUp() #this just loops forever pass def tearDown(self): self.setUp() any thoughts? The Windows Error thrown seems to suggest the file is in use... could it be that the tests are run in parallel threads? I've read elsewhere that it's 'bad practice' to use the filesystem in unit testing, but really? Surely there's a way around this that doesn't invole dummying the filesystem?

  • How to create a GtkImage from a Cairo context?

    - by Zurbo82
    I got a paint function that works using a Cairo context and the end result should be a GtkImage (without intermediate image creation). I tried to use the gdk_cairo_create function but this code: ... GdkPixbuf *pixbuf = gdk_pixbuf_new (GDK_COLORSPACE_RGB, FALSE, 8, 22, 22); GtkWidget *image = gtk_image_new_from_pixbuf (pixbuf); GdkDrawable *drawable = image->window; cairo_t *ctx = gdk_cairo_create (drawable); my_cairo_paint_function (ctx); ... fails with: Gdk-CRITICAL **: IA__gdk_cairo_create: assertion `GDK_IS_DRAWABLE (drawable)' failed Same with a simple: #include <gtk/gtk.h> #include <cairo.h> int main (int argc, char *argv[]) { gtk_init(&argc, &argv); cairo_t *ctx = gdk_cairo_create (gtk_widget_get_window (gtk_image_new_from_file ("foobar.png"))); gtk_main(); return 0; } I don't understand why this fails. Any help is appreciated!

  • Why does std::map operator[] create an object if the key doesn't exist?

    - by n1ck
    Hi, I'm pretty sure I already saw this question somewhere (comp.lang.c++? Google doesn't seem to find it there either) but a quick search here doesn't seem to find it so here it is: Why does the std::map operator[] create an object if the key doesn't exist? I don't know but for me this seems counter-intuitive if you compare to most other operator[] (like std::vector) where if you use it you must be sure that the index exists. I'm wondering what's the rationale for implementing this behavior in std::map. Like I said wouldn't it be more intuitive to act more like an index in a vector and crash (well undefined behavior I guess) when accessed with an invalid key? Refining my question after seeing the answers: Ok so far I got a lot of answers saying basically it's cheap so why not or things similar. I totally agree with that but why not use a dedicated function for that (I think one of the comment said that in java there is no operator[] and the function is called put)? My point is why doesn't map operator[] work like a vector? If I use operator[] on an out of range index on a vector I wouldn't like it to insert an element even if it was cheap because that probably mean an error in my code. My point is why isn't it the same thing with map. I mean, for me, using operator[] on a map would mean: i know this key already exist (for whatever reason, i just inserted it, I have redundancy somewhere, whatever). I think it would be more intuitive that way. That said what are the advantage of doing the current behavior with operator[] (and only for that, I agree that a function with the current behavior should be there, just not operator[])? Maybe it give clearer code that way? I don't know. Another answer was that it already existed that way so why not keep it but then, probably when they (the ones before stl) choose to implement it that way they found it provided an advantage or something? So my question is basically: why choose to implement it that way, meaning a somewhat lack of consistency with other operator[]. What benefit do it give? Thanks

  • Is it possible to reinterpret pointer as dimensioned array reference?

    hi. Suppose I have some pointer, which I want to reinterpret as static dimension array reference: double *p; double (&r)[4] = ?(p); // some construct? // clarify template< size_t N> void function(double (&a)[N]); ... double *p; function(p); // this will not work. // I would like to cast p as to make it appear as double[N] Is it possible to do so? how do I do it?

  • jQuery UI Element vs Dojo (Dijit) Form Element

    - by Muers
    Dojo seems to have a useful feature in that it can setup event handlers and default options, etc for Dijit.form elements as it is inserting it into the DOM. For example, Dojo: var slider = new dijit.form.HorizontalSlider({ name: sliderContainerId+'_slider', value: sliderValue, minimum: sliderMax, maximum: sliderMin, onChange: function(value){ // some event handling logic } }, sliderContainerId); However, the jQuery UI Slider traditionally is applied to DOM elements that already exist: $( sliderContainerId ).slider({ value:100, min: 0, max: 500, step: 50, slide: function( event, ui ) { $( "#amount" ).val( "$" + ui.value ); } }); I need to be able to 'programmatically' create new Sliders (and other form elements), but I'm not sure how that could be achieved with the way jQuery is structured? Maybe I'm missing something obvious here.... MTIA

  • I have a ConnectException that isn't being caught for some reason

    - by aakbari1024
    I'm working on an Android application that uses sockets. I have a function called initializeStreams() which opens the socket and attempts a connection. This function throws a ConnectException if the connection could not be established. But for some reason, in the code that calls initializeStreams(), which has a catch block for ConnectException, the log prints out its own stack trace for the exception instead of going to the catch block. The catch block is never reached at all, even though the exact exception is being thrown. Here's the code: The try block: try { initializeStreams(); /* drivesList = new ArrayList<String>(); drivesList = enumerateDrives();*/ } catch (ConnectException e) { //Log.i(TAG, "caught connect exception"); /*loadingProgress.dismiss(); retryConnection();*/ } initializeStreams(): public void initializeStreams() throws ConnectException { try { Log.i(TAG, "Attempting to connect"); requestSocket = new Socket(SERVER_ADDR, PORT); /* other code */ } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } I can't figure this out, so any help would be much appreciated. }

  • Create or override Rails Active Record macros (

    - by Jocelyn
    In a Rails app, Active Record creates created_at and updated_at columns thank to macros, (it seems to be also called "magic columns"). See Active Record Migrations I have some questions about that mecanism: Is it possible to override that to get a third column (e.g. deleted_at) ? Is it possible to create a new macro t.publishing that will create publish_up and publish_down columns, for example? And where to code that? Obviously, I know I can add those columns manually, but I wonder how to achieve it with macros. Working on Rails 4.

  • PHP scope question

    - by Dan
    Hi, I'm trying to look through an array of records (staff members), in this loop, I call a function which returns another array of records (appointments for each staff member). foreach($staffmembers as $staffmember) { $staffmember['appointments'] = get_staffmember_appointments_for_day($staffmember); // print_r($staffmember['appointments'] works fine } This is working OK, however, later on in the script, I need to loop through the records again, this time making use of the appointment arrays, however they are unavailable. foreach ($staffmembers as $staffmember) { //do some other stuff //print_r($staffmember['appointments'] no longer does anything } Normally, I would perform the function from the first loop, within the second, however this loop is already nested within two others, which would cause the same sql query to be run 168 times. Can anyone suggest a workaround? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • Need some explanation about MS Ajax using PageMethods

    - by Ahmed Said
    I have a project that uses PageMethods to call functions on the server. The server functions (written in C#) return the values as array of strings, without doing any kind of serialization and in the client side (from Js) the accessing of the return values is by using static variable called arguments. I found that sometimes for some users (cases are not repro) sometimes an exception occured "WebServiceFailedException the server method 'Foo' returned invalid data. the 'd' property is missing from JSON." Some searching on google I found that people are serializing the return values using DataContractJsonSerializer class and in js accessing the return value using one of the callback function Example: function OnRequestComplete(result, userContext, methodName) { var Person = eval('(' + result + ')'); alert(Person.Forename); alert(Person.Surname); } So is the first technique is correct? or what?

  • Self Executing jQuery Plugin?

    - by GnrlBzik
    I am working on expansion of my jQuery plug-in authoring knowledge, just playing around with my own ideas for learning benefits. So i was wondering how you guys tackle the need of plugin executing without any user specific input. So I have a need for plug-in that executes right away after document is ready, without any user's specific input just as long as doc is loaded, so the only way I see how to execute plug-in on it's own is to attach handler to ready listener that executes my function which I extended the jQuery with. And because this needs to be self enclosed, part of the code, I attach handler to event listener within the function. So how else could one tackle this? Any take at this is appreciated. Thank you in advance everyone.

  • Damaged data when gzipping

    - by RadiantHeart
    This is the script I hva written for gzipping content on my site, which is located in 'gzip.php'. The way i use it is that on pages where I want to enable gzipping i include the file at the top and at the bottom i call the output function like this: print_gzipped_page('javascript') If the file is a css-file i use 'css' as the $type-argument and if its a php file i call the function without declaring any arguments. The script works fine in all browsers except Opera which gives an error saying it could not decode the page due to damaged data. Can anyone tell me what I have done wrong? <?php function print_gzipped_page($type = false) { if(headers_sent()){ $encoding = false; } elseif( strpos($_SERVER['HTTP_ACCEPT_ENCODING'], 'x-gzip') !== false ){ $encoding = 'x-gzip'; } elseif( strpos($_SERVER['HTTP_ACCEPT_ENCODING'],'gzip') !== false ){ $encoding = 'gzip'; } else{ $encoding = false; } if ($type!=false) { $type_header_array = array("css" => "Content-Type: text/css", "javascript" => "Content-Type: application/x-javascript"); $type_header = $type_header_array[$type]; } $contents = ob_get_contents(); ob_end_clean(); $etag = '"' . md5($contents) . '"'; $etag_header = 'Etag: ' . $etag; header($etag_header); if ($type!=false) { header($type_header); } if (isset($_SERVER['HTTP_IF_NONE_MATCH']) and $_SERVER['HTTP_IF_NONE_MATCH']==$etag) { header("HTTP/1.1 304 Not Modified"); exit(); } if($encoding){ header('Content-Encoding: '.$encoding); print("\x1f\x8b\x08\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00"); $size = strlen($contents); $contents = gzcompress($contents, 9); $contents = substr($contents, 0, $size); } echo $contents; exit(); } ob_start(); ob_implicit_flush(0); ?> Additional info: The script works if the length og the document beeing compressed is only 10-15 characters.

  • improve my jquery validation plugin code

    - by Jared
    Hi All Just hoping soemone can help me to write better code than I can come up with on my own. I am using the jquery validation plugin. I have some fields that are mandatory ONLY if certain options are chosen. The below code works fine. But the thing is, is that that my list of 'OR's is much longer than I've put here. and it needs to be applied not just to 'directorsName' but a whole long list of inputs, selects etc. My question is.. how can I wrap up the code contained inside the RETURN? (so I dont have to keep repeating my 'OR's. I'm guessign I need a function but I'm unsure of the syntax) $("#myForm").validate({ rules: { directorsName : { required: function(element) { return ( $('#account_for').val() == "Joint" || $('#directors_number').val() == "2" || $('#directors_number').val() == "3" ); } } } }); Thanks in advance

  • Why does s ++ t not lead to a stack overflow for large s?

    - by martingw
    I'm wondering why Prelude> head $ reverse $ [1..10000000] ++ [99] 99 does not lead to a stack overflow error. The ++ in the prelude seems straight forward and non-tail-recursive: (++) :: [a] -> [a] -> [a] (++) [] ys = ys (++) (x:xs) ys = x : xs ++ ys So just with this, it should run into a stack overflow, right? So I figure it probably has something to do with the ghc magic that follows the definition of ++: {-# RULES "++" [~1] forall xs ys. xs ++ ys = augment (\c n -> foldr c n xs) ys #-} Is that what helps avoiding the stack overflow? Could someone provide some hint for what's going on in this piece of code?
