  • SQL Server 2008 - "Enhanced read-ahead and scan"?

    Hi all, Can anyone point me to, or does anyone know what this "feature" of SQL Server is? Googling for it (also for "Super scan" which seems to be a synonym for the feature) reveals no information other than all the edition comparison pages that exist out there for SQL Server. I'm also not sure whether this is a stackoverflow or a serverfault question. I'll try here on serverfault first, but if folk think stackoverflow may be a better forum, drop me a comment to that effect - ta :-)

  • configure squid with windows 2008

    Hi my problem is this: I have a 3 pc (192.168.1.2,..3,..4) and a windows 2008 server (192.168.1.100) router is 192.168.1.1. I just want that the 3 pc set like gateway 192.168.1.100, are filter by squid proxy loaded in win2008 so in win2008 I 've set in control panel the proxy 192.168.1.100:3128 and in win2008 browser work, the connection is filtered by proxy, but in 3 pc not works, so maybe I should route all incoming request into squid, but I dunno how ... thanks

    Hi, A time ago I had a script who got the flv-file from a specified youtube-video, which now is broken due to changes at their website. I am wondering if Youtube may have an API to download the flv-file, where can I find it in that case? Have anyone build an own script, may someone wanna help be building it?   • Opening Time-Machine OSX backup files on Windows 7?

    Hi, Have Time Machine backups on a Western Digital External HD. The Time Machine backups were done on my now dead Mac G4 running OSX Leopard- I am waiting on a new iMac but in the meantime I need to access some of my backup files urgently. I have a laptop running Windows 7 so is there any safe way of accessing some of the files from the Time Machine backup on my laptop and still be able to do a full restore when the iMac arrives? On Ubuntu Linux, this works perfectly fine, I don't need to install any drivers; however, on the Windows equivalent - Windows XP in my case, I don't seem to have any drivers for it. In fedora 11 xfce there was a tool that change the system permission to allow any user to mount any partition,but i cant find it in fedora 12. please help me how to fix this problem and set all the permission needed for any other application.

  • .NET 3.5 SP1 Installer hang at around 80%

    Hi, I was trying to install .NET 3.5 SP1 to one of our production machines with Windows 2003 SP2. However, the installer just hang at around 80% with message "Setup is loading installation components, This may take a minute or two". In fact it's been like that for 30mins already and using 0% CPU. I disabled the anti-virus software and then applied the windows installer 4.5 update but no luck, the installer still hangs. Anyone had this problem before?

  • copy windows registry and/or other locked files

    Hi. While improving my (personal) backup system, I noticed, that I cannot copy certain locked files, like the windows registry files. Is there a way to copy such things? Or a specific solution for the registry (I know of the regedit-File-Export ,,solution'' but this is to text format and seems slow). AFAIK, On Linux the locking system is advisory and on Windows it is mandatory. Can I somehow bypass the mandatory-ness for backup purposes etc.? TIA.

    Hi , I am looking to configure on solaris10 to achieve the below: user=jon group=jtu jon is owner of /opt/app user=ken group=jtu ken is owner of /data on Linux I have added the below line %jtu ALL= NOPASSWD: /bin/*, /usr/bin/* so that jon is able to access /data/tmp and delete files. This doesn't work on solaris10 since there is no sudo by default. How to configure on solaris10 for jon to be able to delete files in /data/tmp? Thanks

We are very close to launching our project that will use tens of millions quite often updated not very big files and we need to decide which FS to use. For a while our considerations about other linux FS are: Ext3 is rock stable, but not very well suited for handling millions small files XFS looks very nice, probably we'll use it ReiserFS ... well...vague future, who will end up fixing bugs ?
