  • How to return a recordset from a function

    - by Scott
    I'm building a data access layer in Excel VBA and having trouble returning a recordset. The Execute() function in my class is definitely retrieving a row from the database, but doesn't seem to be returning anything. The following function is contained in a class called DataAccessLayer. The class contains functions Connect and Disconnect which handle opening and closing the connection. Public Function Execute(ByVal sqlQuery as String) As ADODB.recordset Set recordset = New ADODB.recordset Dim recordsAffected As Long ' Make sure we are connected to the database. If Connect Then Set command = New ADODB.command With command .ActiveConnection = connection .CommandText = sqlQuery .CommandType = adCmdText End With ' These seem to be equivalent. 'Set recordset = command.Execute(recordsAffected) recordset.Open command.Execute(recordsAffected) Set Execute = recordset recordset.ActiveConnection = Nothing recordset.Close Set command = Nothing Call Disconnect End If Set recordset = Nothing End Function Here's a public function that I'm using in cell A1 of my spreadsheet for testing. Public Function Scott_Test() Dim Database As New DataAccessLayer 'Dim rs As ADODB.recordset 'Set rs = CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset") Set rs = New ADODB.recordset Set rs = Database.Execute("SELECT item_desc_1 FROM imitmidx_sql WHERE item_no = '11001'") 'rs.Open Database.Execute("SELECT item_desc_1 FROM imitmidx_sql WHERE item_no = '11001'") 'rs.Open ' This never displays. MsgBox rs.EOF If Not rs.EOF Then ' This is displaying #VALUE! in cell A1. Scott_Test = rs!item_desc_1 End If rs.ActiveConnection = Nothing Set rs = Nothing End Function What am I doing wrong?

  • How do I associate Parameters to Command objects in ADO with VBScript?

    - by Krashman5k
    I have been working an ADO VBScript that needs to accept parameters and incorporate those parameters in the Query string that gets passed the the database. I keep getting errors when the Record Set Object attempts to open. If I pass a query without parameters, the recordset opens and I can work with the data. When I run the script through a debugger, the command object does not show a value for the parameter object. It seems to me that I am missing something that associates the Command object and Parameter object, but I do not know what. Here is a bit of the VBScript Code: ... 'Open Text file to collect SQL query string' Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") fileName = "C:\SQLFUN\Limits_ADO.sql" Set tso = fso.OpenTextFile(fileName, FORREADING) SQL = tso.ReadAll 'Create ADO instance' connString = "DRIVER={SQL Server};SERVER=myserver;UID=MyName;PWD=notapassword; Database=favoriteDB" Set connection = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") Set cmd = CreateObject("ADODB.Command") connection.Open connString cmd.ActiveConnection = connection cmd.CommandText = SQL cmd.CommandType = adCmdText Set paramTotals = cmd.CreateParameter With paramTotals .value = "tot%" .Name = "Param1" End With 'The error occurs on the next line' Set recordset = cmd.Execute If recordset.EOF then WScript.Echo "No Data Returned" Else Do Until recordset.EOF WScript.Echo recordset.Fields.Item(0) ' & vbTab & recordset.Fields.Item(1) recordset.MoveNext Loop End If The SQL string that I use is fairly standard except I want to pass a parameter to it. It is something like this: SELECT column1 FROM table1 WHERE column1 IS LIKE ? I understand that ADO should replace the "?" with the parameter value I assign in the script. The problem I am seeing is that the Parameter object shows the correct value, but the command object's parameter field is null according to my debugger.

  • Files not waiting for each other

    - by Sunny
    I have two batch files as follows in which file2.bat is dependent on file1.bat's output: file1.bat @ECHO OFF setlocal enabledelayedexpansion SET "keystring1=" ( FOR /f "delims=" %%a IN ( Source.txt ) DO ( ECHO %%a|FIND "Appprocess.exe" >NUL IF NOT ERRORLEVEL 1 SET keystring1=%%a FOR %%b IN (App1 App2 App3 App4 App5 App6 ) DO ( ECHO %%a|FIND "%%b" >NUL IF NOT ERRORLEVEL 1 IF DEFINED keystring1 CALL ECHO(%%keystring1%% %%b&SET "keystring1=" )))>result.txt GOTO :EOF file2.bat @echo off setlocal enabledelayedexpansion (for /f "tokens=1,2" %%a in (memory.txt) do ( for /f "tokens=5" %%c in ('find " %%a " ^< result.txt ') do echo %%c %%b ))> new.txt file1.bat usually takes 60 sec to complete its execution. In master.bat file i am calling above two files as: call file1.bat call file2.bat but file2.bat is not waiting for file1.bat to complete its execution. Even , i tried to call file2.bat within file1.bat as below but still its not waiting for file1.bat to get completed: @ECHO OFF setlocal enabledelayedexpansion SET "keystring1=" ( FOR /f "delims=" %%a IN ( Source.txt ) DO ( ECHO %%a|FIND "HsvDataSource.exe" >NUL IF NOT ERRORLEVEL 1 SET keystring1=%%a FOR %%b IN (EUHFMPROD USHFMPROD TL2TEST GSHFMPROD TL2PROD GSARCH1213 TL2FY13) DO ( ECHO %%a|FIND "%%b" >NUL IF NOT ERRORLEVEL 1 IF DEFINED keystring1 CALL ECHO(%%keystring1%% %%b&SET "keystring1=" )))>file2.txt GOTO :EOF call file1.bat I also tried below start option, but no effect.: start file1.bat /wait call file2.bat Not getting ..why its happening..?

  • How to include frameset under CGI.pm

    I want to have a cgi-script that does two things. Take the input from a form. Generate results base on the input values on a frame. What's the right way to do it? #!/usr/local/bin/perl use CGI ':standard'; print header; print start_html('A Simple Example'), h1('A Simple Example'), start_form, "What's your name? Hello guys/girls The instruction at "0x7c910a19" referenced memory at "oxffffffff". The memory could not be "read" I have a small issue, I receive the error above before the .vbs terminates. Function ImportTransactions() Dim objConnection, objCommand, objRecordset, strOracle Dim strSQL, objRecordsetInsert Set objConnection = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") objConnection.Open "DSN=*****;UID=*****;PWD==*****;" Set objCommand = CreateObject("ADODB.Command") Set objRecordset = CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset") Exit Function End Function It does both the import and update and seems to throw this error after. Thanks in advance for any help, Clare

  • How do I ensure that a regex does not match an empty string?

    - by Dancrumb
    I'm using the Jison parser generator for Javascript and am having problems with my language specification. The program I'm writing will be a calculator that can handle feet, inches and sixteenths. In order to do this, I have the following specification: %% ([0-9]+\s*"'")?\s*([0-9]+\s*"\"")?\s*([0-9]+\s*"s")? {return 'FIS';} [0-9]+("."[0-9]+)?\b {return 'NUMBER';} \s+ {/* skip whitespace */} "*" {return '*';} "/" {return '/';} "-" {return '-';} "+" {return '+';} "(" {return '(';} ")" {return ')';} <<EOF>> {return 'EOF';} Most of these lines come from a basic calculator specification. I simply added the first line. The regex correctly matches feet, inch, sixteenths, such as 6'4" (six feet, 4 inches) or 4"5s (4 inches, 5 sixteenths) with any kind of whitespace between the numbers and indicators. The problem is that the regex also matches a null string. As a result, the lexical analysis always records a FIS at the start of the line and then the parsing fails. Here is my question: is there a way to modify this regex to guarantee that it will only match a non-zero length string?

  • Something about Stream

    - by sforester
    I've been working on something that make use of streams and I found myself not clear about some stream concepts( you can also view another question posted by me at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2933923/about-redirected-stdout-in-system-diagnostics-process ). 1.how do you indicate that you have finished writing a stream, writing something like a EOF? 2.follow the previous question, if I have written a EOF(or something like that) to a stream but didn't close the stream, then I want to write something else to the same stream, can I just start writing to it and no more set up required? 3.if a procedure tries to read a stream(like the stdin ) that no one has written anything to it, the reading procedure will be blocked,finally some data arrives and the procedure will just read till the writing is done,which is indicated by getting a return of 0 count of bytes read rather than being blocked, and now if the procedure issues another read to the same stream, it will still get a 0 count and return immediately while I was expecting it will be blocked since no one is writing to the stream now. So does the stream holds different states when the stream is opened but no one has written to it yet and when someone has finished a writing session? I'm using Windows the .net framework if there will by any thing platform specific. Thanks a lot!

  • how to automate the testing of a text based menu

    - by Reagan Penner
    Hi there, I have a text based menu running on a remote Linux host. I am using expect to ssh into this host and would like to figure out how to interact with the menus. Interaction involves arrowing up, down and using the enter and back arrow keys. For example, Disconnect Data Collection > Utilities > Save Changes When you enter the system Disconnect is highlighted. So simply pressing enter twice you can disconnect from the system. Second enter confirms the disconnect. The following code will ssh into my system and bring up the menu. If I remove the expect eof and try to send "\r" thinking that this would select the Disconnect menu option I get the following error: "write() failed to write anything - will sleep(1) and retry..." #!/usr/bin/expect set env(TERM) vt100 set password abc123 set ipaddr 162.116.11.100 set timeout -1 match_max -d 100000 spawn ssh root@$ipaddr exp_internal 1 expect "*password:*" send -- "$password\r" expect "Last login: *\r" expect eof I have looked at the virterm and term_expect examples but cannot figure out how to tweak them to work for me. If someone can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. What I need to know is can I interact with a text based menu system and what is the correct method for doing this, examples if any exist would be great. thanks, -reagan

  • JMeter CSV Data Set is corrupting Japanese strings stored as proper UTF-8, I get Question Marks instead

    - by Mark Bennett
    I read in search terms from a simple text file to send to a search engine. It works fine in English, but gives me ???? for any Japanese text. Text with mixed English and Japanese does show the English text, so I know it's reading it. What I'm seeing: Input text: Snow Leopard ??????????????? Turns into: Snow Leopard ??????????????? This is in my POST field of an HTTP. If I set JMeter to encode the data, it just puts in the percent sequence for question marks. Interesting note: In the example above there are 15 Japanese characters, and then 15 question marks, so at some point it's being seen as full characters and not just bytes. About the Data: The CSV file is very simple in structure. There's only one field / one column, which I name TERM, and later use as ${TERM} I don't really need full CSV because it's only one string per line. There's no commas or quotes. When I run the Unix "file" command on the file, it says UTF-8 text. I've also verified it in command line and graphical mode on two machines. JMeter CSV Dataset Config: Filename: japanese-searches.csv File encoding: UTF-8 (also tried without) Variable names: TERM Delimiter: , Allow Quoted Data: False (I also tried True, different, but still wrong) Recycle at EOF: True Stop at EOF: False Staring mode: All threads A few things I've tried: Tried Allow quoted Data. It changed to other strange characters. -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8 Tried encoding the POST, but it just turned into a bunch of %nn for question marks And I'm not sure how "debug" just after the each line of the CSV is read in. I think it's corrupted right away, but I'm not sure. If it's only mangled when I reference it, then instead of ${TERM} perhaps there's some other "to bytes" function call. I'll start checking into that. I haven't done anything with the JMeter functions yet.

Any thoughts? Thank you!

  • Horizontal histogram won't accept input after the first input

    - by vincentbelkin
    So I'm making a program which is supposed to print a horizontal histogram of the lengths of words in its input. I don't know if most of it is OK since the main problem is it won't accept any input after the first one. Oh I also put comments on the parts I'm having some trouble with, like how to print "-" multiple times in order to represent histogram. I've tried making other versions of the code but I couldn't check if I'm close to getting it because again it won't accept another input after the first input. /*Write a program to print a histogram of the lengths of words in its input. It is easy to draw the histogram with the bars horizontal*/ #include <stdio.h> #define MAX 30 #define IN 1 #define OUT 0 int main() { int a,c,i,k,state,word[MAX]; a=0; k=0; state=OUT; for(i=0;i<MAX;i++) word[i]=0; while((c=getchar())!=EOF) { if(c==' '||c=='\t'||c=='\n') state=OUT; else state=IN; while(state==IN) a++; if(state==OUT) { word[i]=a; i++; } /*This part is hard for me, I don't know how to print X multiple times!*/ if((c==getchar())&&c==EOF) { for(i=0;i<MAX;i++) { for(i=0;i<=word[i];i++) putchar('-'); putchar('\n'); } } } }

It keeps giving an error after the first go around. I must be missing something? David

Updated code: func main() { n := scanf() fmt.Println(n) fmt.Println(len(n)) } func scanf() []int { nums := new(vector.IntVector) reader := bufio.NewReader(os.Stdin) str, err := reader.ReadString('\n') for err != os.EOF { fields := strings.Fields(str) for _, f := range fields { i, _ := strconv.Atoi(f) nums.Push(i) } str, err = reader.ReadString('\n') } r := make([]int, nums.Len()) for i := 0; i < nums.Len(); i++ { r[i] = nums.At(i) } return r }

  • An Erroneous SQL Query makes browser hang until script timeout exceeded

    - by Jimbo
    I have an admin page in a Classic ASP web application that allows the admin user to run queries against the database (SQL Server 2000) Whats really strange is that if the query you send has an error in it (an invalid table join, a column you've forgotten to group by etc) the BROWSER hangs (CPU usage goes to maximum) until the SERVER script timeout is exceeded and then spits out a timeout exceeded error (server and browser are on different machines, so not sure how this happens!) I have tried this in IE 8 and FF 3 with the same result. If you run that same query (with errors) directly from SQL Enterprise Manager, it returns the real error immediately. Is this a security feature? Does anyone know how to turn it off? It even happens when the connection to the database is using 'sa' credentials so I dont think its a security setting :( Dim oRS Set oRS = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset") oRS.ActiveConnection = sConnectionString // run the query - this is for the admin only so doesnt check for sql safe commands etc. oRS.Open Request.Form("txtSQL") If Not oRS.EOF Then // list the field names from the recordset For i = 0 to oRS.Fields.Count - 1 Response.Write oRS.Fields(i).name & "&nbsp;" Next // show the data for each record in the recordset While Not oRS.EOF For i = 0 to oRS.Fields.Count - 1 Response.Write oRS.Fields(i).value & "&nbsp;" Next Response.Write "<br />" oRS.Movenext() Wend End If

  • shell script stopped working --- need to rewrite?

    - by OopsForgotMyOtherUserName
    The script below worked on my Mac OS X. I'm now using Ubuntu OS, and the script is no longer working. I'm wondering if there's something that I need to change here? I did change the first line from #!/bin/bash to #!/bin/sh, but it's still throwing up an error.... Essentially, I get an error when I try to run it: Syntax error: end of file unexpected (expecting ")") #!/bin/sh REMOTE='ftp.example.com' USER='USERNAME' PASSWORD='PASSWORD' CMDFILE='/jtmp/rc.ftp' FTPLOG='/jtmp/ftplog' PATTERN='SampFile*' date > $FTPLOG rm $CMDFILE 2>/dev/null LISTING=$(ftp -in $REMOTE <<EOF user $USER $PASSWORD cd download ls $PATTERN quit EOF ) echo "open $REMOTE" >> $CMDFILE echo "user $USER $PASSWORD" >> $CMDFILE echo "verbose" >> $CMDFILE echo "bin" >> $CMDFILE echo "cd download" >> $CMDFILE for FILE in $LISTING do echo "get $FILE" >> $CMDFILE done echo "quit" >> $CMDFILE ftp -in < $CMDFILE >> $FTPLOG 2>&1 rm $CMDFILE

  • How to read/write from erlang to a named pipe ?

    - by cstar
    I need my erlang application to read and write through a named pipe. Opening the named pipe as a file will fail with eisdir. I wrote the following module, but it is fragile and feels wrong in many ways. Also it fails on reading after a while. Is there a way to make it more ... elegant ? -module(port_forwarder). -export([start/2, forwarder/2]). -include("logger.hrl"). start(From, To)-> spawn(fun() -> forwarder(From, To) end). forwarder(FromFile, ToFile) -> To = open_port({spawn,"/bin/cat > " ++ ToFifo}, [binary, out, eof,{packet, 4}]), From = open_port({spawn,"/bin/cat " ++ FromFifo}, [binary, in, eof, {packet, 4}]), forwarder(From, To, nil). forwarder(From, To, Pid) -> receive {Manager, {command, Bin}} -> ?ERROR("Sending : ~p", [Bin]), To ! {self(), {command, Bin}}, forwarder(From, To, Manager); {From ,{data,Data}} -> Pid ! {self(), {data, Data}}, forwarder(From, To, Pid); E -> ?ERROR("Quitting, first message not understood : ~p", [E]) end. As you may have noticed, it's mimicking the port format in what it accepts or returns. I want it to replace a C code that will be reading the other ends of the pipes and being launched from the debugger.
