  • Documenting mathematical logic in code

    - by Kiril Raychev
    Sometimes, although not often, I have to include math logic in my code. The concepts used are mostly very simple, but the resulting code is not - a lot of variables with unclear purpose, and some operations with not so obvious intent. I don't mean that the code is unreadable or unmaintainable, just that it's waaaay harder to understand than the actual math problem. I try to comment the parts which are hardest to understand, but there is the same problem as in just coding them - text does not have the expressive power of math. I am looking for a more efficient and easy to understand way of explaining the logic behind some of the complex code, preferably in the code itself. I have considered TeX - writing the documentation and generating it separately from the code. But then I'd have to learn TeX, and the documentation will not be in the code itself. Another thing I thought of is taking a picture of the mathematical notations, equations and diagrams written on paper/whiteboard, and including it in javadoc. Is there a simpler and clearer way? P.S. Giving descriptive names(timeOfFirstEvent instead of t1) to the variables actually makes the code more verbose and even harder too read.

  • How can I make an infinite cave using stage3d?

    - by ifree
    I want to make an infinite cave in my 3d game using flash stage3d. But I got no idea about how to build that cave. Can anyone can give me some solution or hint? update: I've tried agal fragment shader like squeae tunnel in shader toy code: var fragmentProgramCode:String = AGALUtils.build() .mov("ft0","v0") .div("ft1","ft0.xy","fc3.xy") .mul("ft2","fc6.x","ft1") .sub("ft3","ft2","fc5.x")//vec2 p = -1.0 + 2.0 * gl_FragCoord.xy / resolution.xy; .mul("ft1","ft3.x","ft3.x") .mul("ft2","ft3.y","ft3.y") .pow("ft4","ft1","fc6.z")//float r = pow( pow(p.x*p.x,16.0) + pow(p.y*p.y,16.0), 1.0/32.0 ); .pow("ft5","ft2","fc6.z") .add("ft1","ft4","ft5") .pow("ft4","ft1","fc6.w") .mov("ft5","fc5")//uv .sub("ft1","fc7.x","ft4") .add("ft5.x","fc7.x","ft1")//uv.x = .5*time + 0.5/r; .mov("ft6","fc0")//for atan .atan2("ft5.y","ft3.y","ft3.x",new <String>["fc7.y","fc5.x","fc7.z","fc7.w","fc8.x","fc8.y","fc8.z","fc8.w","fc9.x","fc9.y"],"ft6") .tex("ft0","ft5","fs0","repeat","linear","nomip")//tex .mul("ft1","ft4","ft4") .mul("ft2","ft1","ft4")//r*r*r .mul("ft1","ft0.xyz","ft2") .mov("ft0.w","fc5.x") .mov("oc","ft1").toString() it can only apply one material,but my project requires different types of material (like floor,ceilling). so ,I create a 3d model Is there anyway to make that 3d model render like "infinity cave"? use agal to make each side of cave's texture move? thanks for your help

  • dynamic 2d texture creation in unity from script

    - by gman
    I'm coming from HTML5 and I'm used to having the 2D Canvas API I can use to generate textures. Is there anything similar in Unity3D? For example, let's say at runtime I want to render a circle, put 3 initials in the middle and then take the result and put that in a texture. In HTML5 I'd do this var initials = "GAT"; var textureWidth = 256; var textureHeight = 256; // create a canvas var c = document.createElement("canvas"); c.width = textureWidth; c.height = textureHeight; var ctx = c.getContext("2d"); // Set the origin to the center of the canvas ctx.translate(textureWidth / 2, textureHeight / 2); // Draw a yellow circle ctx.fillStyle = "rgb(255,255,0)"; // yellow ctx.beginPath(); var radius = (Math.min(textureWidth, textureHeight) - 2) / 2; ctx.arc(0, 0, radius, 0, Math.PI * 2, true); ctx.fill(); // Draw some black initials in the middle. ctx.fillStyle = "rgb(0,0,0)"; ctx.font = "60pt Arial"; ctx.textAlign = "center"; ctx.fillText(initials, 0, 30); // now I can make a texture from that var tex = gl.createTexture(); gl.bindTexture(gl.TEXTURE_2D, tex); gl.texImage2D(gl.TEXTURE_2D, 0, gl.RGBA, gl.RGBA, gl.UNSIGNED_BYTE, c); gl.generateMipmap(gl.TEXTURE_2D); I know I can edit individual pixels in a Unity texture but is there any higher level API for drawing to texture in unity?

  • How to allow my Asp.net MVC 3 web app using MathJax to accept user input $x<y>z$ ?

    - by Recycle Bin
    I am developing a mathematics site using Asp.Net MVC 3 + Razor + MathJax. MathJax is a javascript library to render TeX or LaTeX codes on the web browser. And TeX or LaTeX codes represent mathematics contents such as an inline math $y=mx+c$ and a displayed math \[y=mx+c\]. Right now my site can accept input, for example, $x<y$. However it cannot accept $x<y>z$ because the framework regards this input is vulnerable to XSS and XSRF. Shortly speaking, what I should do to accomplish what I want but it does not open security vulnerability.

  • noweb dpp filter and latex not printing curly braces

    - by Dervin Thunk
    Hello. Well, this smells like a tumbleweed, but I will ask it anyway. Suppose you have a noweb file with some c# code. You also have the c++ pretty-print filter dpp. If you run the command noweave -filter ./dpp -x test.nw > csharp.tex on the file below, it will print everything except for the curly braces. Instead of them, I get an em-dash and a closing quotations marks (i.e. ?) in the dvi. The tex source looks fine... Any ideas? @ C\# test file <<test.c>>= while( (a[right] >= pivot) && (left < right) ) { right--; }

  • Using Effect For Fog of War

    - by Qua
    I'm trying to apply fog of war to areas on the screen not currently visible to the player. I do this by rendering the game content in one RenderTarget and the the fog of war into another, and then I merge them with an effect file that takes the color from the game RenderTarget and the alpha from the fog of war render target. The FOW RenderTarget is black where the FOW appears, and white where it doesn't. This does work, but it colors the fog of war (the unrevealed locations) white instead of the intended color of black. Before applying the effect I clear the backbuffer of the device to white. When I try to clear it to black, non of the fog of war appears at all, which I assume is a product of alpha blending with black. It works for all other colors, however - giving the resulting screen a tint of that color. How do I archieve a black fog while still being able to do alpha blending between the two render targets? The rendering code for applying the FOW: private RenderTarget2D mainTarget; private RenderTarget2D lightTarget; private void CombineRenderTargetsAndDraw() { batch.GraphicsDevice.SetRenderTarget(null); batch.GraphicsDevice.Clear(Color.White); fogOfWar.Parameters["LightsTexture"].SetValue(lightTarget); batch.Begin(SpriteSortMode.Immediate, BlendState.AlphaBlend); fogOfWar.CurrentTechnique.Passes[0].Apply(); batch.Draw( mainTarget, new Rectangle(0, 0, batch.GraphicsDevice.PresentationParameters.BackBufferWidth, batch.GraphicsDevice.PresentationParameters.BackBufferHeight), Color.White ); batch.End(); } The effect file I'm using to apply the FOW: texture LightsTexture; sampler ColorSampler : register(s0); sampler LightsSampler = sampler_state{ Texture = <LightsTexture>; }; struct VertexShaderOutput { float4 Position : POSITION0; float2 TexCoord : TEXCOORD0; }; float4 PixelShaderFunction(VertexShaderOutput input) : COLOR0 { float2 tex = input.TexCoord; float4 color = tex2D(ColorSampler, tex); float4 alpha = tex2D(LightsSampler, tex); return float4(color.r, color.g, color.b, alpha.r); } technique Technique1 { pass Pass1 { PixelShader = compile ps_2_0 PixelShaderFunction(); } }

  • Compilation of latex file

    - by Tim
    Hi, I am compiling a latex file on a server and download from there the generated dvi, ps and pdf files to view them. The latex file by \includegraphics includes some figure files which are not on my local machine. I found that dvi file generated by latex command does not show the figures after dowloaded to my local, but ps file generated by dvips -Ppdf have the figures, and pdf file generated by either ps2pdf or pdflatex seem not have the figures again. Is it because the figures are not actually embeded as part of the dvi and pdf files by those compilation commands? How to actually embed figures so we can only export the document files to other machines? are the case for tables in separated tex files included into main tex file by /input and the case for style files included by \usepackage similar to the above case for figure files included by \includegraphics ? Thanks and regards!

  • Problem with pgfplot label

    I want to draw an x-y-diagram with axis labels. Unfortunately the ylabel is misplaced. It looks as depending on the actual data. When the other data line in the sample below is used instead of the upper line, it looks better. • Latex: Extracting the sty files of all the used packages

    - by Zlatko
    Hi. So after writhing a large .tex file and using many packages I want to archive everything. Not just the .tex .jpg files but also the .sty files. This is because sometimes some options in the sty files are changed, and then I can't compile the file. The "problem" is that in using Ubuntu, I already installed all the packages in my system. I don't want to have to copy the manually. Is there a program that can do this automatically. Tnx.

  • Bind texture with pinned mapped memory in CUDA

    - by sjchoi
    I was trying to bind a host memory that was mapped for zero-copy to a texture, but it looks like it isn't possible. Here is a code sample: float* a; float* d_a; cudaSetDeviceFlags(cudaDeviceMapHost); cudaHostAlloc( (void **)&a, bytes, cudaHostAllocMapped); cudaHostGetDevicePointer((void **)&d_a, (void *)a, 0); texture<float, 2, cudaReadModeElementType> tex; cudaBindTexture2D( 0, &tex, d_a, &channelDesc, width, height, pitch); Is it recommended that you used pinned memory and just copy it over to device memory that is bind to texture?

  • How to fix OpenGL/SDL runtime error which is probobly caused by adding textures [closed]

    - by Arturs Lapins
    Hello I've recently worked with OpenGL and SDL and I was adding textures to my GL_QUADS and when I ran my program I came across with a runtime error. I've searched all over the internet for a fix but I couldn't find anything so I guess I had one more option. Asking here. So here is some of my code. int loadTexture(std::string fileName){ SDL_Surface *image=IMG_Load(fileName.c_str()); SDL_DisplayFormatAlpha(image); unsigned int id; glGenTextures(1,&id); glBindTexture(GL_TEXTURE_2D,&id); glTexParameterf(GL_TEXTURE_2D,GL_TEXTURE_MIN_FILTER,GL_NEAREST); glTexParameterf(GL_TEXTURE_2D,GL_TEXTURE_MAG_FILTER,GL_NEAREST); glTexParameterf(GL_TEXTURE_2D,GL_TEXTURE_WRAP_S,GL_CLAMP_TO_EDGE); glTexParameterf(GL_TEXTURE_2D,GL_TEXTURE_WRAP_T,GL_CLAMP_TO_EDGE); glTexImage2D(GL_TEXTURE_2D,0,GL_RGBA,image->w,image >h,0,GL_RGBA,GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE,image->pixels); SDL_FreeSurface(image); return id; } That's my loadTexture function. void init() { glClearColor(0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 1.0); glMatrixMode(GL_PROJECTION); glLoadIdentity(); gluPerspective(45.0, 800.0 / 600.0, 1.0, 500.0); glMatrixMode(GL_MODELVIEW); glEnable(GL_DEPTH_TEST); glEnable(GL_TEXTURE_2D); tex=loadTexture("test.png"); } That's my init function for OpenGL. Btw I have declared my tex variable. void render() { glClear(GL_COLOR_BUFFER_BIT | GL_DEPTH_BUFFER_BIT); glLoadIdentity(); glTranslatef(0.0, 0.0, -10.0); glRotatef(rotation, 1.0, 1.0, 1.0); glBindTexture(GL_TEXTURE_2D, tex); glBegin(GL_QUADS); glTexCoord2f(1.0, 0.0); glVertex3f(-2.0, 2.0, 0.0); glTexCoord2f(1.0, 1.0); glVertex3f(2.0, 2.0, 0.0); glTexCoord2f(1.0, 0.0); glVertex3f(2.0, -2.0, 0.0); glTexCoord2f(0.0, 0.0); glVertex3f(-2.0, -2.0, 0.0); glEnd(); } That's my render function for all my OpenGL render stuff... The render function is called in the main function which contains a game loop. Here is the runtime error when I run it with Visual C++ Unhandled exception at 0x004ffee9 in OpenGL Crap.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x05c90000. So I have only had this error when I added textures... ... So I found where the error occured it was at this line glTexImage2D(GL_TEXTURE_2D,0,GL_RGBA,image->w,image->h,0,GL_RGBA,GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE,image->pixels); but I have totally no Idea what could it be. Thanks in advance. -(id) init { // always call "super" init // Apple recommends to re-assign "self" with the "super" return value if( (self=[super init])) { CCSprite *photoalbumbg = [CCSprite spriteWithFile:@"photoalbumbg.png"]; photoalbumbg.anchorPoint = ccp(0,0); [self addChild:photoalbumbg z:0]; //Background Sound // [[SimpleAudioEngine sharedEngine]playBackgroundMusic:@"Background Music.wav" loop:YES]; CCSprite *photoalbumframe = [CCSprite spriteWithFile:@"photoalbumframe.png"]; photoalbumframe.position = ccp(160,240); [self addChild:photoalbumframe z:2]; CCSprite *frame = [CCSprite spriteWithFile:@"Photo-Frames.png"]; frame.position = ccp(160,270); [self addChild:frame z:1]; /*_____________________________________________________________________________________*/ CCMenuItemImage * upgradebtn = [CCMenuItemImage itemFromNormalImage:@"AlbumUpgrade.png" selectedImage:@"AlbumUpgrade.png" target:self selector:@selector(Upgrade:)]; CCMenu * fMenu = [CCMenu menuWithItems:upgradebtn,nil]; fMenu.position = ccp(200,110); [self addChild:fMenu z:3]; NSError *error; NSFileManager *fM = [NSFileManager defaultManager]; NSString *documentsDirectory = [NSHomeDirectory() stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"Documents"]; NSLog(@"Documents directory: %@", [fM contentsOfDirectoryAtPath:documentsDirectory error:&error]); NSArray *allfiles = [fM contentsOfDirectoryAtPath :documentsDirectory error:&error]; directoryList = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; for(NSString *file in allfiles) { NSString *path = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:file]; [directoryList addObject:file]; } NSLog(@"array file name value ==== %@", directoryList); CCSprite *temp = [CCSprite spriteWithFile:[directoryList objectAtIndex:0]]; [temp setTextureRect:CGRectMake(160.0f, 240.0f, 50,50)]; // temp.anchorPoint = ccp(0,0); [self addChild:temp z:10]; for(UIImage *file in directoryList) { // NSData *pngData = [NSData dataWithContentsOfFile:file]; // image = [UIImage imageWithData:pngData]; NSLog(@"uiimage = %@",image); // UIImage *image = [UIImage imageWithContentsOfFile:file]; for (int i=1; i<=3; i++) { for (int j=1;j<=3; j++) { CCTexture2D *tex = [[[CCTexture2D alloc] initWithImage:file] autorelease]; CCSprite *selectedimage = [CCSprite spriteWithTexture:tex rect:CGRectMake(0, 0, 67, 66)]; selectedimage.position = ccp(100*i,350*j); [self addChild:selectedimage]; } } } } return self; }

  • Why are there no package management systems for C and C++?

    - by m0nhawk
    There are some programming languages for which exist their own package management systems: CTAN for TeX CPAN for Perl Pip & Eggs for Python Maven for Java cabal for Haskell Gems for Ruby Is there any other languages with such systems? What about C and C++? (that's the main question!) Why there are no such systems for them? And isn't creating packages for yum, apt-get or other general package management systems better?

  • How to uninstall Latex?

    - by ATMathew
    Ubuntu and Latex newbie here. Very basic question I have. I recently installed Latex using the following code: sudo apt-get install texlive However, I want to uninstall this and just get the latex base for now. I tried the following but it doesn't work: sudo apt-get remove texlive dpkg --get-selections | grep tex shows that a number of latex related files are installed. How do I remove texlive?

  • How to trick apt dependencies?

    - by FUZxxl
    I want to use Frescobaldi (an editor for Lilypond), but the packaged release of lilypond (2.12.3; lilypond is like TeX for scoresheets) in the official repos is a bit old, since I want to use some brand-new features. So I just cloned their git repo and installed it from there. Now my question is, how can I tell apt, that I satisfied the dependency on lilypond manually, so that it doesn't tries to install another copy?

  • Is it possible to change "working directory" of XeTeX?

    - by Herbert Sitz
    Using XeTeX there are many working files that get created in process of producing the pdf, and they litter the directory where my main .tex file is. Is it possible to change the working directory of XeTeX so that it stores all these scratch files in some other directory, out of the way? There is a previous question on Superuser.com that discusses a utility that cleans up the working files by deleting them after they're produced: http://superuser.com/questions/95712/how-to-avoid-littering-ones-tex-directories-with-intermediate-files That solution doesn't work for me since I'm using XeTeX, but also it seems like it would be preferable to simply be able to designate a "scratch" directory where all working files are saved. I haven't been able to find any info on how to do it though. Is there a way? (My question is prompted partly because of the fact that I often work with files in a directory that is shared using DropBox, so it creates a lot of unnecessary traffic if files are getting created and destroyed willy nilly. I don't know if it affects speed in any way, but the idea of having a separate working directory that is not shared/replicated by DropBox would be a cleaner solution, even if I could use the method suggested in the earlier thread.)

  • How to handle files that don't need version control in mercurial

    - by richardh
    I am new to mercurial, and for the most part do LaTeX reports and statistical calculations in R using .csv and/or .sqlite files. Re LaTeX, all I really care is the .tex file. Re R, I don't need version control on the .csv or .sqlite files because they are static. When I do 'hg add' for a repo with a .csv and/or .sqlite file, I get a warning like: rev2.sqlite: up to 3070 MB of RAM may be required to manage this file (use 'hg revert rev2.sqlite' to cancel pending addition) So I revert and subsequently use adds like hg add -X *.sqlite. I guess I really have two questions: (1) Should I ignore these warnings? Because these large files are static, can I just add to the repo knowing that the diff files will always be empty and not worry about wasted resources? (2) If I should keep excluding these files from the repo, is there away that I can fix this option? I.E., add to my .hgrc file something that always appends an option like -I *.tex -I *.R to my 'hg add' commands? Thanks!

  • Texture will not apply to my 3d Cube directX

    - by numerical25
    I am trying to apply a texture onto my 3d cube but it is not showing up correctly. I believe that it might some what be working because the cube is all brown which is almost the same complexion as the texture. And I did not originally make the cube brown. These are the steps I've done to add the texture I first declared 2 new varibles ID3D10EffectShaderResourceVariable* pTextureSR; ID3D10ShaderResourceView* textureSRV; I also added a variable and a struct to my shader .fx file Texture2D tex2D; SamplerState linearSampler { Filter = MIN_MAG_MIP_LINEAR; AddressU = Wrap; AddressV = Wrap; }; I then grabbed the image from my local hard drive from within the .cpp file. I believe this was successful, I checked all varibles for errors, everything has a memory address. Plus I pulled resources before and never had a problem. D3DX10CreateShaderResourceViewFromFile(mpD3DDevice,L"crate.jpg",NULL,NULL,&textureSRV,NULL); I grabbed the tex2d varible from my fx file and placed into my resource varible pTextureSR = modelObject.pEffect->GetVariableByName("tex2D")->AsShaderResource(); And added the resource to the varible pTextureSR->SetResource(textureSRV); I also added the extra property to my vertex layout D3D10_INPUT_ELEMENT_DESC layout[] = { {"POSITION",0,DXGI_FORMAT_R32G32B32_FLOAT, 0 , 0, D3D10_INPUT_PER_VERTEX_DATA, 0}, {"COLOR",0,DXGI_FORMAT_R32G32B32A32_FLOAT, 0 , 12, D3D10_INPUT_PER_VERTEX_DATA, 0}, {"NORMAL",0,DXGI_FORMAT_R32G32B32A32_FLOAT, 0 , 24, D3D10_INPUT_PER_VERTEX_DATA, 0}, {"TEXCOORD",0, DXGI_FORMAT_R32G32_FLOAT, 0 , 36, D3D10_INPUT_PER_VERTEX_DATA, 0} }; as well as my struct struct VertexPos { D3DXVECTOR3 pos; D3DXVECTOR4 color; D3DXVECTOR3 normal; D3DXVECTOR2 texCoord; }; Then I created a new pixel shader that adds the texture to it. Below is the code in its entirety matrix Projection; matrix WorldMatrix; Texture2D tex2D; float3 lightSource; float4 lightColor = {0.5, 0.5, 0.5, 0.5}; // PS_INPUT - input variables to the pixel shader // This struct is created and fill in by the // vertex shader struct PS_INPUT { float4 Pos : SV_POSITION; float4 Color : COLOR0; float4 Normal : NORMAL; float2 Tex : TEXCOORD; }; SamplerState linearSampler { Filter = MIN_MAG_MIP_LINEAR; AddressU = Wrap; AddressV = Wrap; }; //////////////////////////////////////////////// // Vertex Shader - Main Function /////////////////////////////////////////////// PS_INPUT VS(float4 Pos : POSITION, float4 Color : COLOR, float4 Normal : NORMAL, float2 Tex : TEXCOORD) { PS_INPUT psInput; // Pass through both the position and the color psInput.Pos = mul( Pos, Projection ); psInput.Normal = Normal; psInput.Tex = Tex; return psInput; } /////////////////////////////////////////////// // Pixel Shader /////////////////////////////////////////////// float4 PS(PS_INPUT psInput) : SV_Target { float4 finalColor = 0; finalColor = saturate(dot(lightSource, psInput.Normal) * lightColor); return finalColor; } float4 textured( PS_INPUT psInput ) : SV_Target { return tex2D.Sample( linearSampler, psInput.Tex ); } // Define the technique technique10 Render { pass P0 { SetVertexShader( CompileShader( vs_4_0, VS() ) ); SetGeometryShader( NULL ); SetPixelShader( CompileShader( ps_4_0, textured() ) ); } } Below is my CPU code. It maybe a little sloppy. But I am just adding code anywhere cause I am just experimenting and playing around. You should find most of the texture code at the bottom createObject #include "MyGame.h" #include "OneColorCube.h" /* This code sets a projection and shows a turning cube. What has been added is the project, rotation and a rasterizer to change the rasterization of the cube. • Loading the preview function of AUCTeX 11.86 on macports Emacs-app 23.2.1 port.

    - by Sarah
    I've installed Emacs-app 23.2.1 via MacPorts and I'm trying to install AUCTeX 11.86 so that it will work on this installation. I've run the following configure line for AUCTeX and that seems to work. ./configure --with-emacs=/Applications/MacPorts/Emacs.app/Contents/MacOS/Emacs --with-lispdir=/Applications/MacPorts/Emacs.app/Contents/Resources/site-lisp/ --with-texmf-dir=/usr/local/texlive/2010basic/texmf-local/ make and make install seem to work, and I've added the following line to my init.el (require 'tex-site) as per the installation instructions. However, when I open a TeX file, the Preview menu does not show up (although the LaTeX menu does.) The following are some of my tests: M-x load-library RET preview-latex RET doesn't seem to do anything. M-x load-library RET preview RET brings up the Preview menu. Is it safe to somehow add the load-library preview to my init.el? Or do I risk mucking up something? I'm new to Emacs and primarily trying to learn it because of the AUCTeX preview features, but I don't feel very safe in this environment yet.

    Hi, I would like to not show the name of each chapter on the header of its each page. I also like to have nothing in the headers for abstract, acknowledgement, table of content, list of figures and list of tables. But currently I have header on each page, for example: Here is my code when specifying these parts in my tex file \begin{abstract} ... \end{abstract} \begin{acknowledgement} ... \end{acknowledgement} % generate table of contents \tableofcontents % generate list of tables \listoftables % generate list of figures \listoffigures \chapter{Introduction} \label{chp1} %% REFERENCES \appendix \input{appendiximages.tex} \bibliographystyle{plain} %%\bibliographystyle{abbrvnat} \bibliography{thesis} Here is what I believe to be the definition of the commands. More details can be found in these two files jhu12.clo and thesis.cls. % \chapter: \def\chaptername{Chapter} % ABSTRACT % MODIFIED to include section name in headers \def\abstract{ \newpage \dsp \chapter*{\abstractname\@mkboth{\uppercase{\abstractname}}{\uppercase{\abstractname}}} \fmfont \vspace{8pt} \addcontentsline{toc}{chapter}{\abstractname} } \def\endabstract{\par\vfil\null} % DEDICATION % Modified to make dedication its own section %\newenvironment{dedication} %{\begin{alwayssingle}} %{\end{alwayssingle}} \def\dedication{ \newpage \dsp \chapter*{Dedication\@mkboth{DEDICATION}{DEDICATION}} \fmfont} \def\endacknowledgement{\par\vfil\null} % ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS % MODIFIED to include section name in headers \def\acknowledgement{ \newpage \dsp \chapter*{\acknowledgename\@mkboth{\uppercase{\acknowledgename}}{\uppercase{\acknowledgename}}} \fmfont \addcontentsline{toc}{chapter}{\acknowledgename} } \def\endacknowledgement{\par\vfil\null} \def\thechapter {\arabic{chapter}} % \@chapapp is initially defined to be '\chaptername'. EDIT: I just replaced \thispagestyle{botcenter} with \thispagestyle{plain}. The latter is said to clear the header (http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/LaTeX/Page_Layout), but it does not. How shall I do? Thanks!

  • std::map for storing static const Objects

    - by Sean M.
    I am making a game similar to Minecraft, and I am trying to fine a way to keep a map of Block objects sorted by their id. This is almost identical to the way that Minecraft does it, in that they declare a bunch of static final Block objects and initialize them, and then the constructor of each block puts a reference of that block into whatever the Java equivalent of a std::map is, so there is a central place to get ids and the Blocks with those ids. The problem is, that I am making my game in C++, and trying to do the exact same thing. In Block.h, I am declaring the Blocks like so: //Block.h public: static const Block Vacuum; static const Block Test; And in Block.cpp I am initializing them like so: //Block.cpp const Block Block::Vacuum = Block("Vacuum", 0, 0); const Block Block::Test = Block("Test", 1, 0); The block constructor looks like this: Block::Block(std::string name, uint16 id, uint8 tex) { //Check for repeat ids if (IdInUse(id)) { fprintf(stderr, "Block id %u is already in use!", (uint32)id); throw std::runtime_error("You cannot reuse block ids!"); } _id = id; //Check for repeat names if (NameInUse(name)) { fprintf(stderr, "Block name %s is already in use!", name); throw std::runtime_error("You cannot reuse block names!"); } _name = name; _tex = tex; //fprintf(stdout, "Using texture %u\n", _tex); _transparent = false; _solidity = 1.0f; idMap[id] = this; nameMap[name] = this; } And finally, the maps that I'm using to store references of Blocks in relation to their names and ids are declared as such: std::map<uint16, Block*> Block::idMap = std::map<uint16, Block*>(); //The map of block ids std::map<std::string, Block*> Block::nameMap = std::map<std::string, Block*>(); //The map of block names The problem comes when I try to get the Blocks in the maps using a method called const Block* GetBlock(uint16 id), where the last line is return idMap.at(id);. This line returns a Block with completely random values like _visibility = 0xcccc and such like that, found out through debugging. So my question is, is there something wrong with the blocks being declared as const obejcts, and then stored at pointers and accessed later on? The reason I cant store them as Block& is because that makes a copy of the Block when it is entered, so the block wouldn't have any of the attributes that could be set afterwards in the constructor of any child class, so I think I need to store them as a pointer. Any help is greatly appreciated, as I don't fully understand pointers yet. Just ask if you need to see any other parts of the code.

  • GLSL Shader Texture Performance

    - by Austin
    I currently have a project that renders OpenGL video using a vertex and fragment shader. The shaders work fine as-is, but in trying to add in texturing, I am running into performance issues and can't figure out why. Before adding texturing, my program ran just fine and loaded my CPU between 0%-4%. When adding texturing (specifically textures AND color -- noted by comment below), my CPU is 100% loaded. The only code I have added is the relevant texturing code to the shader, and the "glBindTexture()" calls to the rendering code. Here are my shaders and relevant rending code. Vertex Shader: #version 150 uniform mat4 mvMatrix; uniform mat4 mvpMatrix; uniform mat3 normalMatrix; uniform vec4 lightPosition; uniform float diffuseValue; layout(location = 0) in vec3 vertex; layout(location = 1) in vec3 color; layout(location = 2) in vec3 normal; layout(location = 3) in vec2 texCoord; smooth out VertData { vec3 color; vec3 normal; vec3 toLight; float diffuseValue; vec2 texCoord; } VertOut; void main(void) { gl_Position = mvpMatrix * vec4(vertex, 1.0); VertOut.normal = normalize(normalMatrix * normal); VertOut.toLight = normalize(vec3(mvMatrix * lightPosition - gl_Position)); VertOut.color = color; VertOut.diffuseValue = diffuseValue; VertOut.texCoord = texCoord; } Fragment Shader: #version 150 smooth in VertData { vec3 color; vec3 normal; vec3 toLight; float diffuseValue; vec2 texCoord; } VertIn; uniform sampler2D tex; layout(location = 0) out vec3 colorOut; void main(void) { float diffuseComp = max( dot(normalize(VertIn.normal), normalize(VertIn.toLight)) ), 0.0); vec4 color = texture2D(tex, VertIn.texCoord); colorOut = color.rgb * diffuseComp * VertIn.diffuseValue + color.rgb * (1 - VertIn.diffuseValue); // FOLLOWING LINE CAUSES PERFORMANCE ISSUES colorOut *= VertIn.color; } Relevant Rendering Code: // 3 textures have been successfully pre-loaded, and can be used // texture[0] is a 1x1 white texture to effectively turn off texturing glUseProgram(program); // Draw squares glBindTexture(GL_TEXTURE_2D, texture[1]); // Set attributes, uniforms, etc glDrawArrays(GL_QUADS, 0, 6*4); // Draw triangles glBindTexture(GL_TEXTURE_2D, texture[0]); // Set attributes, uniforms, etc glDrawArrays(GL_TRIANGLES, 0, 3*4); // Draw reference planes glBindTexture(GL_TEXTURE_2D, texture[0]); // Set attributes, uniforms, etc glDrawArrays(GL_LINES, 0, 4*81*2); // Draw terrain glBindTexture(GL_TEXTURE_2D, texture[2]); // Set attributes, uniforms, etc glDrawArrays(GL_TRIANGLES, 0, 501*501*6); // Release glBindTexture(GL_TEXTURE_2D, 0); glUseProgram(0); Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Everything was running smoothly. Everything had been downloaded from Internet, packages had been installed and a prompt asked for some obsolete programs/files to be removed or kept.
