  • Pet Peeves with the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace

    - by Bil Simser
    Have you ever noticed how something things just gnaw at your very being. This is the case with the WP7 marketplace, the Zune software, and the things that drive me batshit crazy with a side of fries. To go. I wanted to share. XBox Live is Not the Centre of the Universe Okay, it’s fine that the Zune software has an XBox live tag for games so can see them clearly but do we really need to have it shoved down our throats. On every click? Click on Games in the marketplace: The first thing that it defaults to on the filters on the right is XBox Live: Okay. Fine. However if you change it (say to Paid) then click onto a title when you come back from that title is the filter still set to Paid? No. It’s back to XBox Live again. Really? Give us a break. If you change to any filter on any other genre then click on the selected title, it doesn’t revert back to anything. It stays on the selection you picked. Let’s be fair here. The Games genre should behave just like every other one. If I pick Paid then when I come back to the list please remember that. Double Dipping On the subject of XBox Live titles, Microsoft (and developers who have an agreement with Microsoft to produce Live titles, which generally rules out indie game developers) is double dipping with regards to exposure of their titles. Here’s the Puzzle and Trivia Game section on the Marketplace for XBox Live titles: And here’s the same category filtered on Paid titles: See the problem? Two indie titles while the rest are XBox Live ones. So while XBL has it’s filter, they also get to showcase their wares in the Paid and Free filters as well. If you’re going to have an XBox Live filter then use it and stop pushing down indie titles until they’re off the screen (on some genres this is already the case). Free and Paid titles should be just that and not include XBox Live ones. If you’re really stoked that people can’t find the Free XBox Live titles vs. the paid ones, then create a Free XBox Live filter and a Paid XBox Live filter. I don’t think we would mind much. Whose Trial is it Anyways? You might notice apps in the marketplace with titles like “My Fart App Professional Lite” or “Silicon Lamb Spleen Builder Free”. When you submit and app to the marketplace it can either be free or paid. If it’s a paid app you also have the option to submit it with Trial capabilities. It’s up to you to decide what you offer in the trial version but trial versions can be purchased from within the app so after someone trys out your app (for free) and wants to unlock the Super Secret Obama Spy Ring Level, they can just go to the marketplace from your app (if you built that functionality in) and upgrade to the paid version. However it creates a rift of sorts when it comes to visibility. Some developers go the route of the paid app with a trial version, others decide to submit *two* apps instead of one. One app is the “Free” or “Lite” verions and the other is the paid version. Why go to the hassle of submitting two apps when you can just create a trial version in the same app? Again, visibility. There’s no way to tell Paid apps with Trial versions and ones without (it’s an option, you don’t have to provide trial versions, although I think it’s a good idea). However there is a way to see the Free apps from the Paid ones so some submit the two apps and have the Free version have links to buy the paid one (again through the Marketplace tasks in the API). What we as developers need for visibility is a new filter. Trial. That’s it. It would simply filter on Paid apps that have trial capabilities and surface up those apps just like the free ones. If Microsoft added this filter to the marketplace, it would eliminate the need for people to submit their “Free” and “Lite” versions and make it easier for the developer not to have to maintain two systems. I mean, is it really that hard? Can’t be any more difficult than the XBox Live Filter that’s already there. Location is Everything The last thing on my bucket list is about location. When I launch Zune I’m running in my native location setting, Canada. What’s great is that I navigate to the Travel Tools section where I have one of my apps and behold the splendour that I see: There are my apps in the number 1 and number 4 slot for top selling in that category. I show it to my wife to make up for the sleepless nights writing this stuff and we dance around and celebrate. Then I change my location on my operation system to United States and re-launch Zune. WTF? My flight app has slipped to the 10th spot (I’m only showing 4 across here out of the 7 in Zune) and my border check app that was #1 is now in the 32nd spot! End of celebration. Not only is relevance being looked at here, I value the comments people make on may apps as do most developers. I want to respond to them and show them that I’m listening. The next version of my border app will provide multiple camera angles. However when I’m running in my native Canada location, I only see two reviews. Changing over to United States I see fourteen! While there are tools out there to provide with you a unified view, I shouldn’t have to rely on them. My own Zune desktop software should allow me to see everything. I realize that some developers will submit an app and only target it for some locations and that’s their choice. However I shouldn’t have to jump through hoops to see what apps are ahead of mine, or see people comments and ratings. Another proposal. Either unify the marketplace (i.e. when I’m looking at it show me everything combined) or let me choose a filter. I think the first option might be difficult as you’re trying to average out top selling apps across all markets and have to deal with some apps that have been omitted from some markets. Although I think you could come up with a set of use cases that would handle that, maybe that’s too much work. At the very least, let us developers view the markets in a drop down or something from within the Zune desktop. Having to shut down Zune, change our location, and re-launch Zune to see other perspectives is just too onerous. A Call to Action These are just one mans opinion. Do you agree? Disagree? Feel hungry for a bacon sandwich? Let everyone know via the comments below. Perhaps someone from Microsoft will be reading and take some of these ideas under advisement. Maybe not, but at least let’s get the word out that we really want to see some change. Egypt can do it, why not WP7 developers!

  • Calculix Data Visualiser using QT

    - by Ann
    I am doing a project on CalculiX data visualizor,using Qt.I 've to draw the structure and after giving force the displacement should be shawn as variation in color.I chose HSV coloring,but while executing I got an error message:"QColor::from Hsv:HSV parameters out of range".The code is: DataViz1::DataViz1(QWidget *parent) : QWidget(parent), ui(new Ui::DataViz1) { DArea = new QGLScreen(this); • Can some explain why this wont draw a circle? It is drawing roughly 3/4?

    - by Brandon Shockley
    If we want to use n small lines to outline our circle then we can just divide both the circumference and 360 degrees by n (i.e , (2*pi*r)/n and 360/n). Did I not do that? import turtle, math window = turtle.Screen() window.bgcolor('blue') body = turtle.Turtle() body.pencolor('black') body.fillcolor('white') body.speed(10) body.width(3) body.hideturtle() body.up() body.goto(0, 200) lines = 40 toprad = 40 top_circum = 2 * math.pi * toprad sol = top_circum / lines circle = 360 / lines for stops in range(lines): body.pendown() body.left(sol) body.forward(circle) window.exitonclick()

  • How do I know when to increase or decrease angle to get a specific angle?

    - by Thomas
    Hi. I am programming a game and I have come to a very hard spot. Basically I have a circle and I have 2 angles on this circle. Angle 1 (A) is a point I want angle 2 (B) to go to. During my game every frame I need to check weither or not to increase or decrease my angle value by a certain amount (speed) to eventually reach the first angle. My question is how do I do this? I tried doing this but I don't seem to be doing it right. bool increase = false; float B = [self radiansToDegrees:tankAngle]; float A = [self radiansToDegrees:tankDestinationAngle]; float newAngle = B; if(B < A) { float C = B - (360 - A); float D = A - B; if(C < D) increase = false; else increase = true; } else if(B A) { float C = B - A; float D = A - (360 - B); if(C < D) increase = false; else increase = true; } if(increase) { newAngle += 1.0; } else { newAngle -= 1.0; } if(newAngle 360.0) { newAngle = 0 + (newAngle - 360.0); } else if(newAngle < 0.0) { newAngle = 360 + newAngle; } if(newAngle == 0) newAngle = 360; newAngle = [self degreesToRadians:newAngle]; [self setTanksProperPositionRotation:newAngle]; The basic effect I am trying to achieve is when the user makes a new point, which would be angle 1, angle 2 would move towards angle 1 choosing the fastest direction. I think I have spent around 4 hours trying to figure this out.

  • Convert Markdown text to RTF, using Ruby and Pandoc?

    - by niteshade
    Playing with Ruby and Ruby-Pandoc. Seems like a nice tool, if I can get it to work. I'd like to convert some Markdown text (with embedded lists and other fanciness) to Rich Text. Here's the text I'm converting: Title === This is a paragraph. Hallelujah. Here comes a nested list. --- * List item 1 * List item 1.1 * List item 1.2 * List item 2 * List item 2.1 Here's my Ruby code... require 'pandoc-ruby' input = File.read(test.md) converter = PandocRuby.new(input, from: :markdown, to: :rtf) puts converter.convert ... which (after saving the output to a file) produces a document without anything but a title: Here's the code of the RTF file: {\pard \ql \f0 \sa180 \li0 \fi0 \b \fs36 Title\par} {\pard \ql \f0 \sa180 \li0 \fi0 This is a paragraph. Hallelujah.\par} {\pard \ql \f0 \sa180 \li0 \fi0 \b \fs32 Here comes a nested list.\par} {\pard \ql \f0 \sa0 \li360 \fi-360 \bullet \tx360\tab List item 1\par} {\pard \ql \f0 \sa0 \li360 \fi-360 \bullet \tx360\tab List item 1.1\par} {\pard \ql \f0 \sa0 \li360 \fi-360 \bullet \tx360\tab List item 1.2\par} {\pard \ql \f0 \sa0 \li360 \fi-360 \bullet \tx360\tab List item 2\par} {\pard \ql \f0 \sa0 \li360 \fi-360 \bullet \tx360\tab List item 2.1\sa180\par} In addition, even if it did show up in my RTF viewer (Mac TextEdit), the RTF code seems to have lost all list nesting. I don't know how to diagnose this, whether I have not stated necessary header information or something in Ruby-Pandoc. Thanks in advance!

  • Easy way to keeping angles between -179 and 180 degrees

    - by User1
    Is there an easy way to convert an angle (in degrees) to be between -179 and 180? I'm sure I could use mod (%) and some if statements, but it gets ugly: //Make angle between 0 and 360 angle%=360; //Make angle between -179 and 180 if (angle180) angle-=360; It just seems like there should be a simple math operation that will do both statements at the same time. I may just have to create a static method for the conversion for now.

    Context: C#, XNA game I am using a very basic formula to calculate what angle my sprite (spaceship for example) should be facing based on the xbox controller thumbstick ie. you use the thumbstick to rotate the ship! in my main update method: shuttleAngle = (float) Math.Atan2(newGamePadState.ThumbSticks.Right.X, newGamePadState.ThumbSticks.Right.Y); in my main draw method: spriteBatch.Draw(shuttle, shuttleCoords, sourceRectangle, Color.White, shuttleAngle, origin, 1.0f, SpriteEffects.None, 1); as you can see its quite simple, i take the current radians from the thumbstick and store it in a float "shuttleAngle" and then use this as the rotation angle (in radians) arguement for drawing the shuttle. For some reason when i rotate the sprint it feels sticky at 0, 90, 180 and 270 degrees angles, it wants to settle at those angles. its not giving me a smooth and natural rotation like i would feel in a game that uses a similar mechanic. PS: my xbox controller is fine!

  • Java VM problem in OpenVZ

    - by Ginnun
    Hi, I bought a vps for hosting my java needs. But I can't run java on it. Everything about java is correctly installed but when I try to run java ("java -version" forexample) I get this error : Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap Could not create the Java virtual machine. I don't think this is a java centered problem, Out of memory for sure. I contacted the vps admin, but he says everything is fine, you have 2gb ram, expandable to 4gb! I did a bit search on the subject, here is my BEANS file (numbers converted to humanredable form using a script). By the way do JVM heap memory allocs count on kmemsize or privvmpages ? • Frameworks to manage dates (effective date and expiry dates)

    - by user214626
    Hello, We have an object that can has an effective date and expiry date.(Ex. i want to maintain the price of a commodity for a time period) Business Rules - Effective date is always a valid date (a datestamp) but, expiry date can be null to indicate that the object is active throughout. Also, both effective and expiry date can be set to some valid dates. Are there any frameworks that manage objects such that the objects are consistent,i.e there are no overlaps of the validity periods ? Ex. class XBOX { double price; Date effectiveDate; Date expiryDate; } XBOX x1 = new XBOX(400$, '2007-01-01','2008-12-31' ); XBOX x2 = new XBOX(200$, '2009-01-01',null ); Assume that we get a new rate from '2010-01-01' and a new XBOX object has to be created (to persist). Is there a framework/pattern that can do the following, so that the XBOX is consistent. x2.setExpiryDate('2009-12-31') XBOX x3 = new XBOX(150$, '2010-01-01',null ); Thanks in advance.

  • Unable to connect to Adobe Connect

    - by ub3rst4r
    I am having troubles trying to connect my colleges Adobe Connect. I have done the test meeting connection and it will say "Unable to connect". I have tried connecting on 3 other computers and it works with flying colors. I am running Norton 360 on my computer and I also tried it on my other laptop thats also running Norton 360 and it works on that laptop. I also checked my hosts file and that is not the problem because I am able to connect to the server (on port 80) but not the Adobe Connect port (port 1935). The only thing in it is "127.0.0.1 localhost" Here are the details from the log that the test created: Player Version: WIN 11,3,300,271 App-Server returned: code:ok, servers=rtmp://connect.bowvalleycollege.ca:1935/_rtmp://localhost:8506/,rtmpt://connect.bowvalleycollege.ca:443/_rtmp://localhost:8506/ ERROR: FMS Server did not return correctly! Here is my specifications: Windows 7 SP1 x64 Norton 360 v6.3 (latest) It won't connect in Firefox v15, Chrome v19, or IE9 All of my computers are connected through the same router (D-Link DIR-625) Any ideas?

  • what does AngleVectors method in quake 3 source code does

    - by kypronite
    I just downloaded quake 3 for learning purposes. I know some of some linear algebra(basic vector math ie: dot,cross product). However I can't decipher what below method does, I know what is yaw,pitch and roll. But I can't connect these with vector. Worse, I'm not sure this fall under what math 'category', so I don't really know how to google. Hence the question here. Anyone? void AngleVectors( const vec3_t angles, vec3_t forward, vec3_t right, vec3_t up) { float angle; static float sr, sp, sy, cr, cp, cy; // static to help MS compiler fp bugs angle = angles[YAW] * (M_PI*2 / 360); sy = sin(angle); cy = cos(angle); angle = angles[PITCH] * (M_PI*2 / 360); sp = sin(angle); cp = cos(angle); angle = angles[ROLL] * (M_PI*2 / 360); sr = sin(angle); cr = cos(angle); if (forward) { forward[0] = cp*cy; forward[1] = cp*sy; forward[2] = -sp; } if (right) { right[0] = (-1*sr*sp*cy+-1*cr*-sy); right[1] = (-1*sr*sp*sy+-1*cr*cy); right[2] = -1*sr*cp; } if (up) { up[0] = (cr*sp*cy+-sr*-sy); up[1] = (cr*sp*sy+-sr*cy); up[2] = cr*cp; } } ddddd

  • Custom Gesture in cocos2d

    - by Lewis
    I've found a little tutorial that would be useful for my game: http://blog.mellenthin.de/archives/2012/02/13/an-one-finger-rotation-gesture-recognizer/ But I can't work out how to convert that gesture to work with cocos2d, I have found examples of pre made gestures in cocos2d, but no custom ones, is it possible? EDIT STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THIS: I've added the code from Sentinel below (from SO), the Gesture and RotateGesture have both been added to my solution and are compiling. Although In the rotation class now I only see selectors, how do I set those up? As the custom gesture found in that project above looks like: header file for custom gesture: #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> #import <UIKit/UIGestureRecognizerSubclass.h> @protocol OneFingerRotationGestureRecognizerDelegate <NSObject> @optional - (void) rotation: (CGFloat) angle; - (void) finalAngle: (CGFloat) angle; @end @interface OneFingerRotationGestureRecognizer : UIGestureRecognizer { CGPoint midPoint; CGFloat innerRadius; CGFloat outerRadius; CGFloat cumulatedAngle; id <OneFingerRotationGestureRecognizerDelegate> target; } - (id) initWithMidPoint: (CGPoint) midPoint innerRadius: (CGFloat) innerRadius outerRadius: (CGFloat) outerRadius target: (id) target; - (void)reset; - (void)touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event; - (void)touchesMoved:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event; - (void)touchesEnded:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event; - (void)touchesCancelled:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event; @end .m for custom gesture file: #include <math.h> #import "OneFingerRotationGestureRecognizer.h" @implementation OneFingerRotationGestureRecognizer // private helper functions CGFloat distanceBetweenPoints(CGPoint point1, CGPoint point2); CGFloat angleBetweenLinesInDegrees(CGPoint beginLineA, CGPoint endLineA, CGPoint beginLineB, CGPoint endLineB); - (id) initWithMidPoint: (CGPoint) _midPoint innerRadius: (CGFloat) _innerRadius outerRadius: (CGFloat) _outerRadius target: (id <OneFingerRotationGestureRecognizerDelegate>) _target { if ((self = [super initWithTarget: _target action: nil])) { midPoint = _midPoint; } else if (angle < -180) { angle += 360; } // sum up single steps cumulatedAngle += angle; // call delegate if ([target respondsToSelector: @selector(rotation:)]) { [target rotation:angle]; } } else { // finger moved outside the area self.state = UIGestureRecognizerStateFailed; self.state = UIGestureRecognizerStateFailed; cumulatedAngle = 0; } @end Then its initialised like this: // calculate center and radius of the control CGPoint midPoint = CGPointMake(image.frame.origin.x + image.frame.size.width / 2, image.frame.origin.y + image.frame.size.height / 2); CGFloat outRadius = image.frame.size.width / 2; // outRadius / 3 is arbitrary, just choose something >> 0 to avoid strange // effects when touching the control near of it's center gestureRecognizer = [[OneFingerRotationGestureRecognizer alloc] initWithMidPoint: midPoint innerRadius: outRadius / 3 outerRadius: outRadius target: self]; [self.view addGestureRecognizer: gestureRecognizer]; The selector below is also in the same file where the initialisation of the gestureRecogonizer: - (void) rotation: (CGFloat) angle { // calculate rotation angle imageAngle += angle; if (imageAngle > 360) imageAngle -= 360; else if (imageAngle < -360) imageAngle += 360; // rotate image and update text field image.transform = CGAffineTransformMakeRotation(imageAngle * M_PI / 180); [self updateTextDisplay]; } I can't seem to get this working in the RotateGesture class can anyone help me please I've been stuck on this for days now. SECOND EDIT: Here is the users code from SO that was suggested to me: Here is projec on GitHub: SFGestureRecognizers It uses builded in iOS UIGestureRecognizer, and don't needs to be integrated into cocos2d sources. Using it, You can make any gestures, just like you could, if you whould work with UIGestureRecognizer. For example: I made a base class Gesture, and subclassed it for any new gesture: //Gesture.h @interface Gesture : NSObject <UIGestureRecognizerDelegate> { UIGestureRecognizer *gestureRecognizer; id delegate; SEL preSolveSelector; SEL possibleSelector; SEL beganSelector; SEL changedSelector; SEL endedSelector; SEL cancelledSelector; SEL failedSelector; BOOL preSolveAvailable; CCNode *owner; } - (id)init; - (void)addGestureRecognizerToNode:(CCNode*)node; - (void)removeGestureRecognizerFromNode:(CCNode*)node; -(void)recognizer:(UIGestureRecognizer*)recognizer; @end //Gesture.m #import "Gesture.h" @implementation Gesture - (id)init { if (!(self = [super init])) return self; preSolveAvailable = YES; return self; } - (BOOL)gestureRecognizer:(UIGestureRecognizer *)gestureRecognizer shouldRecognizeSimultaneouslyWithGestureRecognizer:(UIGestureRecognizer *)otherGestureRecognizer { return YES; } - (BOOL)gestureRecognizer:(UIGestureRecognizer *)recognizer shouldReceiveTouch:(UITouch *)touch { //! For swipe gesture recognizer we want it to be executed only if it occurs on the main layer, not any of the subnodes ( main layer is higher in hierarchy than children so it will be receiving touch by default ) if ([recognizer class] == [UISwipeGestureRecognizer class]) { CGPoint pt = [touch locationInView:touch.view]; pt = [[CCDirector sharedDirector] convertToGL:pt]; for (CCNode *child in owner.children) { if ([child isNodeInTreeTouched:pt]) { return NO; } } } return YES; } - (void)addGestureRecognizerToNode:(CCNode*)node { [node addGestureRecognizer:gestureRecognizer]; owner = node; } - (void)removeGestureRecognizerFromNode:(CCNode*)node { [node removeGestureRecognizer:gestureRecognizer]; } #pragma mark - Private methods -(void)recognizer:(UIGestureRecognizer*)recognizer { CCNode *node = recognizer.node; if (preSolveSelector && preSolveAvailable) { preSolveAvailable = NO; [delegate performSelector:preSolveSelector withObject:recognizer withObject:node]; } UIGestureRecognizerState state = [recognizer state]; if (state == UIGestureRecognizerStatePossible && possibleSelector) { [delegate performSelector:possibleSelector withObject:recognizer withObject:node]; } else if (state == UIGestureRecognizerStateBegan && beganSelector) [delegate performSelector:beganSelector withObject:recognizer withObject:node]; else if (state == UIGestureRecognizerStateChanged && changedSelector) [delegate performSelector:changedSelector withObject:recognizer withObject:node]; else if (state == UIGestureRecognizerStateEnded && endedSelector) { preSolveAvailable = YES; [delegate performSelector:endedSelector withObject:recognizer withObject:node]; } else if (state == UIGestureRecognizerStateCancelled && cancelledSelector) { preSolveAvailable = YES; [delegate performSelector:cancelledSelector withObject:recognizer withObject:node]; } else if (state == UIGestureRecognizerStateFailed && failedSelector) { preSolveAvailable = YES; [delegate performSelector:failedSelector withObject:recognizer withObject:node]; } } @end Subclass example: //RotateGesture.h #import "Gesture.h" @interface RotateGesture : Gesture - (id)initWithTarget:(id)target preSolveSelector:(SEL)preSolve possibleSelector:(SEL)possible beganSelector:(SEL)began changedSelector:(SEL)changed endedSelector:(SEL)ended cancelledSelector:(SEL)cancelled failedSelector:(SEL)failed; @end //RotateGesture.m #import "RotateGesture.h" @implementation RotateGesture - (id)initWithTarget:(id)target preSolveSelector:(SEL)preSolve possibleSelector:(SEL)possible beganSelector:(SEL)began changedSelector:(SEL)changed endedSelector:(SEL)ended cancelledSelector:(SEL)cancelled failedSelector:(SEL)failed { if (!(self = [super init])) return self; preSolveSelector = preSolve; delegate = target; possibleSelector = possible; beganSelector = began; changedSelector = changed; endedSelector = ended; cancelledSelector = cancelled; failedSelector = failed; gestureRecognizer = [[UIRotationGestureRecognizer alloc] initWithTarget:self action:@selector(recognizer:)]; gestureRecognizer.delegate = self; return self; } @end Use example: - (void)addRotateGesture { RotateGesture *rotateRecognizer = [[RotateGesture alloc] initWithTarget:self preSolveSelector:@selector(rotateGesturePreSolveWithRecognizer:node:) possibleSelector:nil beganSelector:@selector(rotateGestureStateBeganWithRecognizer:node:) changedSelector:@selector(rotateGestureStateChangedWithRecognizer:node:) endedSelector:@selector(rotateGestureStateEndedWithRecognizer:node:) cancelledSelector:@selector(rotateGestureStateCancelledWithRecognizer:node:) failedSelector:@selector(rotateGestureStateFailedWithRecognizer:node:)]; [rotateRecognizer addGestureRecognizerToNode:movableAreaSprite]; } I dont understand how to implement the custom gesture code at the start of this post into the rotateGesture class which is a subclass of the gesture class written by the SO user. Any ideas please? When I get 6 more rep I'll add a bounty to this.

  • Are there specific benefits to using XNA for 2D development if you don't plan on releasing on xbox/windows phone?

    - by ssb
    I've been using XNA for a while to tinker with 2D game development, but I can't help but feel constrained by the content pipeline when targeting PC only. Things like no vector fonts or direct use of graphics files make it a pain while other frameworks do these things with no problem. I like XNA because it's robust and has a lot of support, but what are the specific benefits that I'd get developing exclusively for PC, if there are any at all?

  • how to run this qt script? (newbie question)

    - by GB_J
    I have a qt script(barchart.qs) that creates a graph for me. I don't know how i can incorporate(ie show the graph) in my qt mainwindow. Can some one please help me look at the code and what its outputs are? I tried engine.evaluate, but i do not know what is the QScriptValue i'm getting in return. Thanks sooo much. This is the script: BarChart.prototype = new QWidget; BarChart.prototype.suffix = ""; function BarChart(parent) { QWidget.call(this, parent); } // find the maximum value and widest (pixel-wise) label and suffix BarChart.prototype.showEvent = function(event) { var fm = new QFontMetrics(this); this.margin = 20; this.titleHeight = fm.height(); this.barHeight = 1.5 * fm.height(); this.barSpacing = 0.6 * fm.height(); this.maxValue = this.suffixWidth = this.labelWidth = 0; var count = 0; for (d in this.data) { this.labelWidth = Math.max(this.labelWidth, fm.width(d)); this.maxValue = Math.max(this.maxValue, this.data[d]); this.suffixWidth = Math.max(this.suffixWidth, fm.width(String(this.data[d]) + " " + this.suffix)); count++; } this.startHue = 15; this.hueDelta = 360 / count; this.size = new QSize(640, this.titleHeight + 2 * this.margin + (this.barHeight + this.barSpacing) * count); } BarChart.prototype.paintEvent = function(event) { var p = new QPainter; p.begin(this); // background and title p.fillRect(this.rect, new QBrush(new QColor(255, 255, 255))); p.drawText(0, 0, this.width, this.margin + this.titleHeight, Qt.AlignCenter, this.windowTitle, 0); var ofs = this.labelWidth + this.margin; var ww = this.width - this.suffixWidth - ofs - 2 * this.margin; var hue = this.startHue; var y = 0; p.translate(this.margin, this.titleHeight + 1.5 * this.margin); for (d in this.data) { // label on the left side p.setPen(new QColor(Qt.black)); p.drawText(0, y, this.labelWidth, this.barHeight, Qt.AlignVCenter + Qt.AlignRight, d, 0); // the colored bar var gradient = new QLinearGradient(new QPoint(ofs, y), new QPoint(ofs, y + this.barHeight)); gradient.setColorAt(0, QColor.fromHsv(hue, 255, 240)); gradient.setColorAt(1, QColor.fromHsv(hue, 255, 92)); p.setBrush(new QBrush(gradient)); p.setPen(new QColor(96, 96, 96)); var bw = this.data[d] * ww / this.maxValue; p.drawRect(ofs, y, bw, this.barHeight); // extra text at the end of the bar var text = new String(this.data[d] + " " + this.suffix); p.setPen(new QColor(Qt.black)); p.drawText(ofs + bw + this.margin/2, y, this.suffixWidth, this.barHeight, Qt.AlignVCenter + Qt.AlignLeft, text, 0); // for the next bar y += (this.barHeight + this.barSpacing); hue += this.hueDelta; if (hue >= 360) hue -= 360; } p.end(); } BarChart.prototype.wheelEvent = function(event) { this.startHue += event.delta() / 8 / 5; if (this.startHue = 360) this.startHue -= 360; if (this.startHue < 0) this.startHue += 360; this.update(); event.ignore(); } BarChart.prototype.mousePressEvent = function(event) { var fname = QFileDialog.getSaveFileName(this, "Save", ".", "*.png", 0, 0); if (fname.length > 0) { var img = new QImage(this.size, QImage.Format_ARGB32_Premultiplied); this.render(img); img.save(new QFile(fname)); } } var chart = new BarChart; chart.windowTitle = "Monthly"; chart.suffix = "reports"; chart.data = { "September" : 45, "October" : 60, "November" : 56, "December" : 0 }; chart.show(); QCoreApplication.exec();

  • C# Collision test of a ship and asteriod, angle confusion

    - by Cherry
    We are trying to to do a collision detection for the ship and asteroid. If success than it should detect the collision before N turns. However it is confused between angle 350 and 15 and it is not really working. Sometimes it is moving but sometime it is not moving at all. On the other hand, it is not shooting at the right time as well. I just want to ask how to make the collision detection working??? And how to solve the angle confusion problem? // Get velocities of asteroid Console.WriteLine("lol"); // IF equation is between -2 and -3 if (equation1a <= -2) { // Calculate no. turns till asteroid hits float turns_till_hit = dx / vx; // Calculate angle of asteroid float asteroid_angle_rad = (float)Math.Atan(Math.Abs(dy / dx)); float asteroid_angle_deg = (float)(asteroid_angle_rad * 180 / Math.PI); float asteroid_angle = 0; // Calculate angle if asteroid is in certain positions if (asteroid.Y > ship.Y && asteroid.X > ship.X) { asteroid_angle = asteroid_angle_deg; } else if (asteroid.Y < ship.Y && asteroid.X > ship.X) { asteroid_angle = (360 - asteroid_angle_deg); } else if (asteroid.Y < ship.Y && asteroid.X < ship.X) { asteroid_angle = (180 + asteroid_angle_deg); } else if (asteroid.Y > ship.Y && asteroid.X < ship.X) { asteroid_angle = (180 - asteroid_angle_deg); } // IF turns till asteroid hits are less than 35 if (turns_till_hit < 50) { float angle_between = 0; // Calculate angle between if asteroid is in certain positions if (asteroid.Y > ship.Y && asteroid.X > ship.X) { angle_between = ship_angle - asteroid_angle; } else if (asteroid.Y < ship.Y && asteroid.X > ship.X) { angle_between = (360 - Math.Abs(ship_angle - asteroid_angle)); } else if (asteroid.Y < ship.Y && asteroid.X < ship.X) { angle_between = ship_angle - asteroid_angle; } else if (asteroid.Y > ship.Y && asteroid.X < ship.X) { angle_between = ship_angle - asteroid_angle; } // If angle less than 0, add 360 if (angle_between < 0) { //angle_between %= 360; angle_between = Math.Abs(angle_between); } // Calculate no. of turns to face asteroid float turns_to_face = angle_between / 25; if (turns_to_face < turns_till_hit) { float ship_angle_left = ShipAngle(ship_angle, "leftKey", 1); float ship_angle_right = ShipAngle(ship_angle, "rightKey", 1); float angle_between_left = Math.Abs(ship_angle_left - asteroid_angle); float angle_between_right = Math.Abs(ship_angle_right - asteroid_angle); if (angle_between_left < angle_between_right) { leftKey = true; } else if (angle_between_right < angle_between_left) { rightKey = true; } } if (angle_between > 0 && angle_between < 25) { spaceKey = true; } } }

  • XNA Notes 009

    - by George Clingerman
    This past week the MVPs (myself included) were on Microsoft campus for the MVP summit. So I apologize in advance if you did something cool or heard of something cool happening with XNA and XBLIGs and it’s not in my notes. I did my best to stay on top of things, but honestly this community is fast and furious with what it’s doing and creating. I really can’t keep up and that’s fantastic! But here’s what I *did* notice while I was there on Microsoft Campus (and I did make sure to point out to the XNA team several of these very cool happenings while I had their ears). Time Critical XNA News: The XNA team wants you to know that Dream Build Play registration is now open! http://blogs.msdn.com/b/xna/archive/2011/02/28/registration-now-open-for-dream-build-play-2011-challenge.aspx Join the XNA-UK create on March 24, 2011 at the Microsoft Tech Days Conference http://xna-uk.net/blogs/darkgenesis/archive/2011/02/27/join-the-xna-uk-crew-at-the-microsoft-tech-days-conference-on-24th-march-2011.aspx XNA Team: Shawn Hargreaves shares one of the coolest things that’s happened in the XNA community http://blogs.msdn.com/b/shawnhar/archive/2011/03/02/xbox-indies-pivot-view.aspx Nick Gravelyn continues his unique marketing/work prioritization strategy as he tries to get to 5,000 Pixel Man users before he makes Pixel Man 2 (and he’s almost there!) http://nickgravelyn.com/pixelman2/ XNA MVPs: A lot of the XNA MVPs were at the Microsoft MVP Summit 2011. Due to NDAs, most things can’t be shared, but I’m sure if you’re curious you could ask them about the general vibe and feeling they got from the team and the future of XNA/XBLIG and more. Another week and another crazy amount of activity going on in the XNA community. I’m fairly certain I missed over half of it. In fact, if I am missing things, make sure to email me and I’ll try and make sure I catch it next week! ([email protected]). Also, if you’ve got any advice, things you like/don’t like about the way these XNA Notes are going let me know. I always appreciate feedback (currently spammers are leaving me the nicest comments so you guys have work to do!) Without further ado, here’s this week’s notes! • Rotation Interpolation

    - by Rob
    Hello, NB: I'll present this question in degrees purely for simplicity, radians, degrees, different zero-bearing, the problem is essentially the same. Does anyone have any ideas on the code behind rotational interpolation? Given a linear interpolation function: Lerp(from, to, amount), where amount is 0...1 which returns a value between from and to, by amount. How could I apply this same function to a rotational interpolation between 0 and 360 degrees? Given that degrees should not be returned outside 0 and 360. Given this unit circle for degrees: where from = 45 and to = 315, the algorithm should take the shortest path to the angle, i.e. it should go through zero, to 360 and then to 315 - and not all the way round 90, 180, 270 to 315. Is there a nice way to achieve this? Or is it going to just be a horrid mess of if() blocks? Am I missing some well understood standard way of doing this? Any help would be appreciated.

  • Adjusting for compass wrap around in a navigation application

    - by chris12892
    I have a application where I am guiding a vehicle on compass headings and I am having an issue when the vehicle is crossing from 360 degrees to 0 degrees. In this case, there are no smarts in the control loop to compute that the nearest way to turn to follow a heading. For example, if the vehicle is instructed to follow a heading of 360 degrees, it will inevitably drifts a few degrees to ether side. If it drifts over to 0+ degrees, the control loop will go nuts and try to steer the vehicle all the way around to get it to 360 degrees again. Is there a graceful way to deal with this? The way the navigate function is written, I use an external PID controller class and I calculate the heading like this: lock (steering) { if (!Engaged) { return; } double mv = 90 + Trim + pidController.CalculateCorrection(flyHeading, currentHeading); steering.Degree = mv; } Thanks!
