  • What is the time complexity of LinkedList.getLast() in Java?

    - by i.
    I have a private LinkedList in a Java class & will frequently need to retrieve the last element in the list. The lists need to scale, so I'm trying to decide whether I need to keep a reference to the last element when I make changes (to achieve O(1)) or if the LinkedList class does that already with the getLast() call. What is the big-O cost of LinkedList.getLast() and is it documented? (i.e. can I rely on this answer or should I make no assumptions & cache it even if it's O(1)?)

  • class member access specifiers and binary code

    - by pdehaan
    I understand what the typical access specifiers are, and what they mean. 'public' members are accessible anywhere, 'private' members are accessible only by the same class and friends, etc. What I'm wondering is what, if anything, this equates to in lower-level terms. Are their any post-compilation functional differences between these beyond the high-level restrictions (what can access what) imposed by the language (c++ in this case) they're used in. Another way to put it - if this were a perfect world where programmers always made good choices (like not accessing members that may change later and using only well defined members that should stay the same between implementations), would their be any reason to use these things?

  • Does GenerateScriptType support NonSerialized?

    - by BlueFox
    I have an object that's used both on the client and server side. GenerateScriptType(typeof(MyClass)) However, there are some fields that I don't need on the client, so my question is there any way to prevent those fields being serialized? (For example, Field2 and Field3 in MyClass) I tried marking the fields with [NonSerialized] but they still get serialized... public class MyClass { public string Field1; public string Field2 { get; set; } private string _field3; public string Field3 { get { return _field3 ?? (_field3 = "lala"); } } } Regards,

  • OneToMany association updates instead of insert

    - by Shvalb
    I have an entity with one-to-many association to child entity. The child entity has 2 columns as PK and one of the column is FK to the parent table. mapping looks like this: @OneToMany(cascade = {CascadeType.ALL}, fetch = FetchType.EAGER ) @JoinColumn(name="USER_RESULT_SEQUENCES.USER_RESULT_ID", referencedColumnName="USER_RESULT_ID", unique=true, insertable=true, updatable=false) private List<UserResultSequence> sequences; I create an instance of parent and add children instances to list and then try to save it to DB. If child table is empty it inserts all children and it works perfectly. if the child table is not empty it updates existing rows! I don't know why it updates instead of inserts, any ideas why this might happen?? Thank you!

  • AccountModel into a Repository and Interface

    - by Jemes
    I'm trying to separate the default AccountModel in mvc2 into a separate interface and repository. I've created an Interface and Repository and copied over the code from the AccountModel. I can register users and create accounts but in Visual Studio I'm getting the error below on the AccountController (* below). Error 1 Inconsistent accessibility: parameter type 'Admin.Models.IMembershipService' is less accessible than method 'Admin.Controllers.AccountController.AccountController(Admin.Models.IMembershipService) public class AccountController : Controller { private IMembershipService MembershipService; public AccountController() : this(new dao_MembershipService()) { } public **AccountController**(IMembershipService repository) { MembershipService = repository; } Does anyone know how I could fix the error?

  • How to do something after effect animation ends in Flex?

    - by Chobicus
    I'm a beginner in Flex so there must be more elegant way of doing this. //move effect private var m:Move = new Move(); //this function creates labels with some text and starts move effect on them public function moveText(i:int):void { var myLabel:Label = new Label(); myLabel.text = "some text"; m.target = myLabel; ... m.play(); } Method moveText is called in a loop so I guess that labels don't get "garbage collected". What I want to do is to remove Labels created in moveText method after play animation ends. Another way of doing this is maybe creating some kind of "pool" of labels which I would use to move arround text. I don't know how would I return labels in to "pool". The question is how to do something after effect animation ends?

  • .net: How do you feed a winform after clicking on a row of a datagridview of search form?

    - by odiseh
    I have a winform which is responsible for doing a search by some conditions that users enters and then selects the records from a Database. The search form has a data grid view which shows the result. After searching, user clikcs on a row of the datagridview and then another form (for example frmShowDetails) will be displayed. My question is when displaying frmShowDetails, what are your suggestions to send the id of selected row to frmShowDetails in order to feed it to show data in .net? Do you use form property or a private mariable which sets by only form constructor? Thank you

    I'm a fairly new developer. When I try to submit my iphone app with xcode, I've got error as follows; Code Sign error: The identity 'iPhone Distribution' doesn't match any valid, non-expired certificate/private key pair in the default keychain After searching, I found out that I have to create a Distribution Provisioning Profile. However, my distribution provisioning profile doesn't work, even though my Development Provisioning Profile works perfectly. Could someone please help me with this problem? I'm stuck all day... and please forgive me that my English is not great. Thank you in advance.

  • c# event and delegate question

    - by user359562
    I want to detach the custom event but could not detach. Please find below I am using -= to detach the event. I assume after this, TextChanged2 method should not be invoked as I have unregistered the event. Let me know if my understanding is wrong. public delegate void TextChangedEventHandler1(object sender, TextBoxargs ta); public event TextChangedEventHandler1 TextChanged1; private void textBox1_TextChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { this.TextChanged1 -= new TextChangedEventHandler1(TextChanged2); TextChanged2(sender, e); } public void TextChanged2(object sender, EventArgs e) { textBox1.Text = textBox1.Text.ToUpper(); }

  • How do I "valueOf" an enum given a class name?

    - by stevemac
    Lets say I have a simple Enum called Animal defined as: public enum Animal { CAT, DOG } and I have a method like: private static Object valueOf(String value, Class<?> classType) { if (classType == String.class) { return value; } if (classType == Integer.class) { return Integer.parseInt(value); } if (classType == Long.class) { return Long.parseLong(value); } if (classType == Boolean.class) { return Boolean.parseBoolean(value); } // Enum resolution here } What can I put inside this method to return an instance of my enum where the value is of the classType? I have looked at trying: if (classType == Enum.class) { return Enum.valueOf((Class<Enum>)classType, value); } But that doesn't work.

  • How to discard const in c++

    - by Vincenzo
    This is what I'm trying to do and I can't: #include <string> using namespace std; class A { bool has() const { return get().length(); } string& get() { return s; } private: string s; }; The error I'm getting is: passing ‘const A’ as ‘this’ argument of ‘std::string& A::get()’ discards qualifiers I understand what the problem is, but how can I fix it? I really need has() to be const. Thanks.

  • progress dialog in main activity's onCreate not shown

    - by Mando
    After the splash screen, it takes about 6 sec to load onCreate contents in the Main activity. So I want to show a progress dialog while loading and here's what I did: import ... private ProgressDialog mainProgress; public void onCreate(Bundle davedInstanceState){ super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); mProgress = new ProgressDialog (Main.this); mProgress.setProgressStyle(ProgressDialog.STYLE_HORIZONTAL); mProgress.setMessage("Loading... please wait"); mProgress.setIndeterminate(false); mProgress.setMax(100); mProgress.setProgress(0); mProgress.show(); ---some code--- mProgress.setProgress(50); ---some code--- mProgress.setProgress(100); mProgress.dismiss(); } and it doesn't work... the screen stays black for 5-6 sec and then load the main layout. • MovieClip progress bar width is too small relative to parent container

    - by egyedg
    I am new to ActionScripot and Flash and I am stuck with the following problem: On the stage I have a movieclip (Container, originally 200px width) and inside it with a progressbar movieclip (originally 700px width), scaled with Free Transform Tool to fit the parent container. The width of the container changes run-time while resizing the scene. In ActionScript I have a function which should set the progress bar width according to a calculated percentage value: private function updateProgress(event:TimerEvent):void { var barWidth:int = _container.width; var progress:Number = _stream.time / _stream.duration * barWidth; _progressBar.width = progress; } My problem is that the progressBar even at full time (100%) is only at 1/4 of the parent container. I assume that it comes from the symbols original size. Can I correct this programatically, or I must redesign it with the "designer"? I hope I made clear my problem, as I said, I'm new in Flash. Thanks in advance.

  • VB to c++ or c#?

    - by hilzmas
    I am trying to translate this code but I don't understand how to use the GET / PUT part of the code in another language like c++ or c#. This is the code : Private Sub cmd_Click() Dim i As Integer, a As Integer a = 10 For i = 1 To a Dim file As String Open "txt" For Binary As #1 file = Space(LOF(1)) Get #1, , file Close #1 Randomize Open "txtpath" & "\" & i & "txtname" For Binary As #1 Put #1, , file Put #1, , Rnd Close #1 Next i End Sub The code could have bug because I replaced variables with plain text. What I understand is that the code get a file and then save it with some random data added to make it look different than the original. I don't use vb since years and I don't remember anything about it. Can someone help me porting this snippet to c++ or c#?

  • Can I load lots of data only once and use it on each request?

    - by eikes
    Is there a way to load a big data object into the memory, which usually has to be loaded at each request, only once? In Java you can instantiate an object in a servlet when this servlet is loaded, but once it's there you can use it in any request. Example is below. Can this be done in PHP? public class SampleServlet extends HttpServlet { private static HugeGraphObject hgo; public void init() { hgo = HugeGraphObjectFactory.get(); } protected void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException { String param = request.getParameter("q"); response.getWriter().write(hgo.getSomeThing(param)); } }

  • Best way to handle storing (possibly NULL) char * in a std::string

    - by John
    class MyClass { public: void setVar(const char *str); private: std::string mStr; int maxLength; //we only store string up to this length }; What's the best approach to implement setVar when the external code is quite likely to pass in NULL for an empty string (and cannot be changed)? I currently do something a bit like: void MyClass::setVar(const char *str) { mStr.assign(str ? str : "",maxLength); } But it seems kind of messy. ideas?

  • c# unicode string output

    - by Reg
    I have function to convert string to a Unicode string: private string UnicodeString(string text) { return Encoding.UTF8.GetString(Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(text)); } But when I am calling this function the output result is wrong. It looks like my function is not working. Console.WriteLine(UnicodeString("????? ?????")) printing on console just questions like that: ????? ???? Is there any way to say to console to display it correct? UPDATE Looks like the problem not in Unicode, I think may be it is displaying question marks because i am not having correct locale in the system (Windows 7)? Is there any way to make it work without changing locale?

  • Use AJAX to check for a new message

    - by Luke
    Quite simply, I need to alert the end user when they have a new private message. From a combination of research and other opinion, I realise I need to use AJAX for this. The mysql query would be SELECT id FROM tbl_messages WHERE to_viewed = 1 So when someone sends a message, I want an alert to popup on the screen to inform the user without a page reload. I have absolutely no idea what I am doing, but know what I want. Really need help with this, AJAX is definitely something I want to improve as it opens up greater possibilities! Thanks

  • Solution to compiler warning for generic varargs

    - by TJR
    A puzzle from this blog. Similar to SO1445233. Given the following source listing, explain why the compiler is producing a warning at invocation to the list method and give a solution for removing the warning without resorting to @SuppressWarnings annotation. public class JavaLanguagePuzzle3 { public static void main(String[] args) { list("1", 2, new BigDecimal("3.5")); } private static <T> List<T> list(T... items) { return Arrays.asList(items); } } Warning: Type safety: A generic array of Object&Serializable&Comparable<?> is created for a varargs parameter

  • different brainpoolP521r1 parameters for flexiProvider. Why?

    - by user182846
    I am trying to generate ECC public private key pairs using flexiProvider. I have noticed that values for parameters like p and q are different in brainpoolP521r1 of flexiProvider than those which are specified in many sites. Values specified are Q= AADD.... but what I get is Q=8948... Any idea why flexiProvider does not use specified values and whether having different values is affectes security. I am new to ECC. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • Is it possible to link a method marked with MethodImplOptions.InternalCall to its implementation?

    - by adrianbanks
    In trying to find the possible cause of an exception, I'm following a code path using Reflector. I've got deeper and deeper, but ended up at a method call that looks like: [MethodImpl(MethodImplOptions.InternalCall)] private extern void SomeMethod(int someParameter); This markup on the method tells the framework to call a C++ function somewhere. Is there any way to find out what method actually gets called, and in turn what else is likely to be called? NB: I don't really want to see the source code of this method, I just want to know the possible things that could throw the exception I am seeing that originates out of this method call.
