• Storing information in the DOM?

  Im making a small private message application in the form of a phone. Ten messages are shown at the time. And the list of messages are scrolled up/down by hiding them. Just how bad is it to use the DOM to store information in this way. My main goal for doing this is to reduce calls to the database. And instead of making a new call all the time, it only checks if any new messages has arrived and ads the new message(s). Whats the alternative, cookies anyone? Thank you for the time

• Java concurrency - Should block or yield?

  Hi, I have multiple threads each one with its own private concurrent queue and all they do is run an infinite loop retrieving messages from it. It could happen that one of the queues doesn't receive messages for a period of time (maybe a couple seconds), and also they could come in big bursts and fast processing is necessary. I would like to know what would be the most appropriate to do in the first case: use a blocking queue and block the thread until I have more input or do a Thread.yield()? I want to have as much CPU resources available as possible at a given time, as the number of concurrent threads may increase with time, but also I don't want the message processing to fall behind, as there is no guarantee of when the thread will be reescheduled for execution when doing a yield(). I know that hardware, operating system and other factors play an important role here, but setting that aside and looking at it from a Java (JVM?) point of view, what would be the most optimal?

  I have a Team class that inherits from a Group class. Both Team and Groups have memberships through the same association. However, I need to run a method after a Team memberships is added but not a Group. I currently have something like this: class Group < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :memberships, :class_name => 'Connection', :foreign_key => 'connectable_id', :as => :connectable, :dependent => :destroy end class Team < Group has_many :memberships, :class_name => 'Connection', :foreign_key => 'connectable_id', :as => :connectable, :dependent => :destroy, :after_add => :add_company_membership private def membership_check(membership) end end Is there some way to modify the inherited association in Team so that I don't have to redefine the entire thing but rather just add the :after_add hook it? Any help would be appreciated.

  Hi there, I am implementing a CMS, the case is that the "Web-Editable" is in a different domain thus, I would be able just get the page using HttpRequest in order to copy and show it in the CMS server to make it able to change it (DOM just visual purpose) and save the changes to the CSS and JavaScript folder on the "Web-Editable" using FTP. I am not allow to download all the information included on the "Web-Editable" trough the FTP, and there are other dinamic images as well comming from a private database. The question is, anyone knows how to make a httprequest "cascade" to get all the 1st level information you see when you visit a Web? Thank you in advance, Efrain

  I'm having a problem where one Dictionary in my project is either not serializing or not deserializing. After deserializing, the data I serialized is simply not in the object. In the code below, if I replace "$TBL_NAME" with the actual table name it works.   I was trying to install the mcrypt libraries following this tutorial (http://www.glenscott.co.uk/blog/2011/08/29/install-mcrypt-php-extension-on-mac-os-x-lion/), but something must have gone wrong and now when I load a php page on my localhost I see this: query="SELECT DISTINCT ".$field." as a,".$field2." as b FROM ".$tab." I've retrieved the previous versions of the private/etc folder and usr/lib/php folder with time machine but it didn't help. • I set a global bug catcher in my application for unhandled exceptions and it is picking up all exceptions

  I am trying to figure out why this is happing. In my vb.net application I set a global handler in the ApplicationEvents.vb which I thought would only pick up any unhandled exceptions, although it is picking up every exception that happens in my application whether or not they are handled with try catch blocks.   I'm a beginner in Flex so there must be more elegant way of doing this. //move effect private var m:Move = new Move(); //this function creates labels with some text and starts move effect on them public function moveText(i:int):void { var myLabel:Label = new Label(); myLabel.text = "some text"; m.target = myLabel; ... m.play(); } Method moveText is called in a loop so I guess that labels don't get "garbage collected". What I want to do is to remove Labels created in moveText method after play animation ends. Another way of doing this is maybe creating some kind of "pool" of labels which I would use to move arround text. I don't know how would I return labels in to "pool". The question is how to do something after effect animation ends?

The count would stay at zero. Is my current approach good? Is using LINQ to sort my cards good/bad?

I'd prefer the definition to look like TSOC<TCollection> where the user can pass in List<int> or something, but then I need to pull out the "int" to know what interface to implement.
