  • Rapid Web Application Development ASP.net vs. Open Source Platforms

    Good morning - I'm an intermediate-level developer who wants to build on online data-driven app (CRUD with a few calculations and basic HTML form inputs, nothing fancy) that keeps track of user sessions, and looks "professional" (or at least not "homemade"). I'm looking to development something with the look-and-feel that users get from sites like: http://www.datamasher.org/ http://www.thisweknow.org/ (About page says it was made with Ruby on Rails, which I'm unfamiliar with) (stackoverflow.com) Any pointers on whether I should just go the Miscrosoft route, and develop in ASP.net with WebForms, or if there's a quick qay to do this kind of development (with a WYSIWYG environment) on an open-source platform? I'm willing to learn, if it's somethat I can use to quickly drag/drop, add code, and publish online. Templates would be a plus, too. I apologize is the question seems a bit vague.

  • RegEx - character not before match

    I understand the consepts of RegEx, but this is more or less the first time I've actually been trying to write some myself. As a part of a project, I'm attempting to parse out strings which match to a certain domain (actually an array of domains, but let's keep it simple). At first I started out with this: url.match('www.example.com') But I noticed I was also getting input like this: http://www.someothersite.com/page?ref=http://www.example.com These rows will ofcourse match for www.example.com but I wish to exclude them. So I was thinking along these lines: Only match rows that contain www.example.com, but not after a ? character. This is what I came up with: var reg = new RegExp("[^\\?]*" + url + "(\\.*)", "gi"); This does however not seem to work, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I fear I've used what little knowledge I yet possess in the matter.

  • How to auto-update a website mirror with exceptions to certain pages?

    I'm currently mirroring a website on my server. The site itself is rarely updated, but it is updated enough that info can become outdated quickly. I mirrored it first with wget, and this worked fine, but I made some changes: The original index.html used frames, but the site also provides a main.html which is essentially index.html but without frames. I deleted index.html and renamed main.html. I did not want to mirror the webchat, blog or forum, so I deleted those files and directories and made directories "blogs" "forum" and "chat" and placed a php redirect in each of those, redirecting visitors to the orignal site. I'd like to auto-update the mirror (maybe once every 24-72 hours), but preserve the changes I made. Is this possible? How would I go about doing it? I am completely clueless as to how. Thanks for any and all help! :)

If I go to http://www.site.com/about I get a 404 error.     I am aware that in Windows you can use the following snippet to redirect the output of a command line tool to the clipboard: mytool | clip Also, it can be done with files: clip < myFile.txt I also know Windows has several other devices you can use as output / input for these redirections (probably the printer is the most famous of them). However, is there something to send the text to the default email program? I would love to find that there is something like: mytool | email. Is there something alike?

    Intro I am working on an e-commerce website. And we want to add a feature where a user can refer others via a custom link e.g.: http://mysite.com/a1t2312 or http://mysite.com/?ref=a1t2312 (a1t231 being the referral code). A user following such a link, will navigate a few pages on the site. And if he reached the 'buy' page and purchases something - the original referrer will get a discount. The question is: What is the best method to track the referral code ? Put it in the user's cookies ? Stick it somehow into the session ? Other method ? Thanks

    I'm going to start development on a web app using ruby, rails, probably either postgres or mysql, and most likely apache. I'll be using a git repository with the master repo on another server. I've searched through stackoverflow and done some Googling... so here's what I have so far...     I am using SimpleID as my OpenID provider and it turns out that if I log on via pages like those on StackExchange, one of the parameters of the GET request gets dropped by Suhosin. The name of the variable is s and I presume it's responsible for the "return to URL" part after login. All of this is not a problem as long as I am already logged into SimpleID from before. However, as soon as the site on which I want to log in via OpenID ends up at the login screen of SimpleID, the redirect back to the site I came from does not work anymore due to the dropped variable. Is there a method to configure either on a per-virtual-host or per-URL basis to ignore the maximum length for GET requests with a parameter s exceeding the (globally) set limit? I'm using Apache 2.2, so I was wondering whether a mechanism similar to setting the PHP ini variables from within the server configuration exists for Suhosin.

    I try to refer to an array in the Game1 class by creating an object of the Game1 class with its definition Game1 gameObject; , its declaration gameObject = new Game1(); in the constructor, and its usage gameObject.tileArray[xInt, yInt].treed = true;. The game1 class itself remains unchanged in its class code other than some methods and variables. When I try to use this code in the TreeRegion class it gives me "Object reference not set to an instance of an object," leading me to believe that the game1 class is null somehow. How might one change the class or object in order to refer to game1's variables? Mind you I am self-taught and still rather new to C#.     In PHP, is there a reliable and good way of getting these things: Protocol: i.e. http or https Servername: e.g. localhost Portnumber: e.g. 8080 I can get the server name using $_SERVER['SERVER_NAME']. I can kind of get the protocol but I don't think it's perfect: if(strtolower(substr($_SERVER["SERVER_PROTOCOL"],0,5))=='https') { return "https"; } else { return "http"; } I don't know how to get the port number though. The port numbers I am using are not 80.. they are 8080 and 8888. Thank you.

  • Call an action from another controller

    I have two different objects: contracts, and task orders. My requirements specify that in order to view the Details for either object, the Url should be "http://.../Contract/Details" or "http://.../TaskOrder/Details" depending on which type. They are both very similar and the details pages are almost identical, so I made a class that can either be a contract or a task order, and has a variable "objectTypeID" that says which type it is. I wrote the action "Details" in the task order controller, but now I want to call that from the contract controller instead of recopying the code. So is there any way to have the url still say ".../Contract/Details" but call the action in the TaskOrder controller instead? I tried using TaskOrderController TOController = new TaskOrderController(); TOController.Details(id); This would have worked except that I can't use the HttpContext.Session anymore, which I used several times in the action.

    I need a URL to just test basic http connectivity. It needs to be consistent and: Always be up Never change drastically due to IP or user agent. (IE: 301 Location redirect/ huge difference in content... minor would be tolerable) The URL itself has a consistent content-length. (IE: it doesn't vary from by 2kb at most, ever) A few examples, yet none match all 3 criteria: One example of always up: www.google.com (yet it 301 redirects based on IP location). Another good one is http://www.google.com/webhp?hl=en. but the problem there is that based on a given holiday, the content-length can really vary.

If you visit this URL, which I'm calling, we'll be getting no errors: http://api.bf3stats.com/pc/server/?output=json&id=534f7035-cef8-48aa-b233-8d44a0956e68 But when I try to get the stats via Ajax call, I get: Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected token : ... In my console I can see that the response is coming in, as when I visit the url, but I can't get the data with the ajax call...   • How do I open a web browser from C#? Process.Start() isn't working?

    I have a URL and I want to launch it in the default browser. I've tried two methods: Process.Start("http://stackoverflow.com"); ... and the one detailed in this other question using ShellExecute. In both cases I get the error: Windows cannot find 'http://stackoverflow.com'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. It shouldn't be trying to open it as a file though... from what I understand, it should recognize it as a URL and open it in the default browser. What am I missing? By the way: OS = Vista, and .NET = 3.5
