• Text over floated images

  I need to put some text over a series of images in a gallery. I found many tutorials about the text part however the images need to be floated. Whenever I add float:left though the trick no longer works. • Find all compilation errors in a Delphi project

  I am doing some refactoring of my Delphi project. I want to be able to make a change, then see all the places in the project that break due to that change. Similar to how Eclipse lists all the compile errors for a project (in Java). In Delphi, I can make a change, then recompile my project, but the compiler stops when it finds the first Unit that does not compile. I have to fix that Unit, compile again, which will then show me the next error, etc etc. I want to be able to see all the compile errors in the project at once. Then I can decide if the change is worth doing or not. For example, if the change will require hand fixing of 50 separate source files, it's not worth doing. But if it only breaks 2 files then that's an easy change to make. Is there any way to do this in Delphi? Can I tell the compiler to keep going even after finding a Unit that does not compile? I am using Delphi 2010

• Hide anchors using jQuery

  I've created a dynamic page that, depending on the view type, will sometimes utilize the anchor tags and other times not. Essentially, I want to be able to control if on click the page jumps to the anchor. Is it possible to hide anchor tags using jQUery, so they are essentially removed? I need to be able to re-enable the anchors when necessary, and always show the current anchor in the browser's address bar. It seems to work in FireFox, but not in Internet Explorer.   I have a program where std::list is used. The program uses threads which act on the std::list as producers and consumers. When a message is dealt with by the consumer, it is removed from the list using pop_front(). But, during pop_front, there is a core dump. • What is the best approach for creating a Common Information Model?

  Hi, I would like to know the best approach to create a Common Information Model. Just to be clear, I've also heard it referred to as a canonical information model, semantic information model, and master data model - As far as I can tell, they are all referring to the same concept. I've heard in the past that a combined "top-down" and "bottom-up" approach is best. This has the advantage of incorporating "Ivory tower" architects and developers - The work will meet somewhere in the middle and usually be both logical and practical. However, this involves bringing in a lot of people with different skill sets. I've also seen a couple of references to the Distributed Management Task Force, but I can't glean much on best practices in terms of CIM development. This is something I'm quite interested in getting some feedback on since having a strong CIM is a prerequisite to SOA. Thanks for your help! KA Update I've heard another strategy goes along with overall SOA implementation: Get the business involved, and seek executive sponsorship. This would be part of the "Top-down" effort.

I worked on other compilers that, if I remember well, made the first result like the second result. Now my memory could be wrong, but shouldn't TEST_FLOAT have the same value than TEST_C? If not, why? Is TEST_C value resolved at compile time or at runtime? I always assumed the former but now that I see those results I have some doubts...

• Our GUI Situation

  These days, any decent Windows desktop application must perform well and look good under the following conditions: 1) XP and Vista and Windows 7. 2) 32 bit and 64 bit. 3) With and without Themes. 4) With and without Aero. 5) At 96 and 120 and perhaps custom DPIs. 6) One or more monitors (screens). 7) Each OS has it's own preferred Font. Oh My! What is a lowly little Windows desktop application developer to do :(. I'm hoping to get a thread started with suggestions on how to deal with this Gui dilemma. First off, I'm on Delphi 7. a) Does Delphi 2010 bring anything new to the table to help with this situation? b) Should we pick an aftermarket component suite and rely on them to solve all these problems? c) Should we go with an aftermarket skinning engine? d) Perhaps a more html type gui is the way to go. Can we make a relatively complex gui app with html that doesn't require using a browser? (prefer to keep it form based) e) Should we just knuckle down and code through each one of these scenarios and quit bitching about it? f) And finally, how in the world are we supposed to test all these conditions? thanks, shawnH

• generating images with php based on css3 gradient settings?

  Hi, Does anyone know if there is a php library, or if there isnt, have any input on how one would go about generating an image via php, from basic HTML element input settings, and CSS 3 gradient parameters. To give an example on why this would be useful, I have found as of a couple days ago, that laying out the wireframe for a webpage using basic Css3 gradient styling speeds up my design and development time by, well, alot. I cant design from photoshop, Ill spend hours tweaking stupid little things that only lead to me tweaking more stupid little things to compensate for stupid little changes. -- So, I had an epiphany to stop using photoshop until the end, and just focus on the main styling of elements, text-shadow, and borders for highlights, and I feel I am able to make super clean, more focused layout by being more restricted to the basics of graphic design with just css. Anyways, so Im planning on after I have the layouts done, to then recreate the graphics in photoshop, so that every browser is able to render the images. This wont take long, but as far as repeating it goes, if I could just do it with PHP, that would be incredible. For instance, take this style for example, which renders a clean looking ipad/pod ish menu/button gradient. So ya, I know PHP has some image generation capabilities but I dont know to what extent, any input on the most effective way to go about doing this or whether it already exists, would be appreciated!

It turned to be easier than I expected. Note that I don't have to worry about whether my partitions ($less and $more) are defined.   I have a question about assembly code generated by GCC (-S option). Since, I am new to assembly language and know very little about it, the question will be very primitive. • Firebug error causing code to fail in Sitecore when using IE8 to view the Content Editor

  Hi, I have a Sitecore 6 CMS with a custom data provider to create child items on the fly based on items added to a field in the parent item. This was working okay (about a week ago was the last time I was working on this project), but now I am getting errors in the web client which are originating in the FirebugLite html and JS files. Basically, I click on a content item, the FirebugLite js fails, and then my code in my custom data provider fails to run. I would have thought any FirebugLite scripts would be disabled or ignored when running under IE8 (isn't FirebugLite a Firefox addin?) When I remove the FirebugLite folder from ..\sitecore\shell\Controls\Lib\ my code runs fine and I don't get the clientside errors. I'm not really sure what my question is. I guess it is should FirebugLite affect IE8? What am I missing out on if I remove FirebugLite from the Sitecore directory tree? I'm running WindowsXP SP3, VS2008. • Very Unusual Margin Appears Always in Internet Explorer [CSS]

  Only in Internet Explorer does this occur: I'm getting an additional margin (of 19 pixels) below a fieldset and I can't seem to see why, whatever I try! Try it for yourself, take a look at http://theshrop.com/d/call_us_or_call_in.php. To aid I've added a grid and some background colours. The fieldset should have a 1.125em bottom margin and it does in Safari, Firefox etc. It has an extra 19 pixels in Internet Explorer? • How do I get Bison/YACC to not recognize a command until it parses the whole string?

  I have some bison grammar: input: /* empty */ | input command ; command: builtin | external ; builtin: CD { printf("Changing to home directory...\n"); } | CD WORD printf("Changing to directroy %s\n", $2); } ; I'm wondering how I get Bison to not accept (YYACCEPT?) something as a command until it reads ALL of the input. So I can have all these rules below that use recursion or whatever to build things up, which either results in a valid command or something that's not going to work. One simple test I'm doing with the code above is just entering "cd mydir mydir". Bison parses CD and WORD and goes "hey! this is a command, put it to the top!". Then the next token it finds is just WORD, which has no rule, and then it reports an error. I want it to read the whole line and realize CD WORD WORD is not a rule, and then report an error. I think I'm missing something obvious and would greatly appreciate any help - thanks! Also - I've tried using input command NEWLINE or something similar, but it still pushes CD WORD to the top as a command and then parses the extra WORD separately.

  Hi, I'm struggling to get to grips with posting a feed item to all the members of an approved application. Within the application settings for the user it is stating that the application has permission to post to the wall but I can only achieve this if that user is currently logged in to facebook. Obviously I would like this to function so that any items I uploaded are posted to all the members of the application at any one time. • Is there a way to trace through only project source in Delphi?

  I'm using Delphi 2010 and I'm wondering if there's a way to trace through code which is in the project without tracing through calls to included VCLs. For example - you put in a breakpoint and then use Shift+F7 to trace through line-by-line. Now you run into a call to some lengthy procedure in a VCL - in my case it's often a Measurement Studio or other component that draws the doodads for a bunch of I/O, OPC, or other bits. At any rate, what happens is that the debugger hops out of the active source file, opens the component source, and traces through that line by line. Often this is hundreds or thousands of lines of code I don't care about - I just want to have it execute and return to the next source line in MY project. Obviously you can do this by setting breakpoints around every instance of an external call, but often there are too many to make this practical - I'd be spending an hour setting a hundred breakpoints every time I wanted to step through a section of code. Is there a setting or a tool somewhere that can do this? Allow one to trace through code within the project while silently executing code which is external to the project? • How to avoid/prevent the system to draw/redraw/refresh/paint a WPF window

  I have an Application WPF with Visual C# (using visual studio 2010) and I want to draw OpenGL scenes on the WPF window itself. As for the OpenGL drawinf itself, I'm able to draw it w/o problems, meaning, I can create GL render context from the WPF main window itself (no additional OpenGL control, no win32 window inside WPF window), use GL commands and use swapbuffer (all this is done inside a dll - using C - I created myself). However, I have an annoying flickering when, for example, I resize the window. I overrided the OnRender method to re-draw with opengl, but after this, the window is redraw with the background color. It's likely that the system is automatically redrawing it. With WindowForms I'm able to prevent the system to redraw automatically (defining some ControlStyles to true or false, like UserPaint = true, AllPaintingInWmPaint = true, Opaque = true, ResizeRedraw = true, DoubleBuffer = false), but, aside setting Opacity to 1, I don't know how to do all that with WPF. I was hoping that overriding OnRender with no operations inside it would avoid redrawin, but somehow the system still draw the background. Do anyone know how to prevent system to redraw the window?
