• How do I deploy building blocks (quick parts) for Microsoft Outlook 2007?

  I want to deploy some building blocks for Microsoft Outlook 2007. Microsoft has put up a poor solution at http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HA102086531033.aspx#4 that asks you to save a template. That solution would require you to distribute that template to all the clients. An optimal solution would allow you to put the template containing the building blocks somewhere on the network and simply use the ”Workgroup building blocks path” group policy setting for shared paths in Microsoft Office 2007. Sadly, Outlook doesn’t respect that policy. Also, the described solution mentioned in the article above doesn’t work. Step 4 requests you to save the template as a Word Template after first asking you to save it as an Outlook Template. It seems that they copy&pasted the steps from the Word article and forgot to check whether it worked (and adjust the steps accordingly). Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions for how to distribute the building blocks without distributing NormalEmail.dotm (which will overwrite the clients’ own building blocks each time it is updated). • How can I find "People's Contacts" folders via Outlook's object model?

  I have some code that locates all the contact folders that a user has access to by iterating through the Application.Session.Stores collection. This works for the user's contacts and also all the public contacts folders. It also finds all the contacts folders in additional mailbox accounts that the user has added via the Tools - Account Settings... menu command. However, this requires the user to have full access to the other person's account. When a user only has access to another person's contacts, then that person's contacts show up under the "People's Contacts" group in the Contacts view. How do I find those contact folders that don't show up under Session.Stores? In order to see the other user's contacts folder without adding access to their full mailbox, click File - Open - Other User's Folder... from the Outlook menu. In the dialog box, enter the other user's name and select Contacts from the Folder type drop down list. Here's the code (minus the error checking and logging) I'm using to find a list of all the user's Outlook contact folders. I know this can (and maybe should) be done using early binding to the Outlook.Application type, but that doesn't affect the results. EnumerateFolders is recursive so that it searches all sub folders. • How to save email as draft in Outlook 2003 programmatically?

  I am working on an VB.NET app which constructs emails programmatically. This app can be used by different people at the same time so I thought that having a "central" email mailbox would be appropriate. The users would then have "links" (not sure of the correct term) to that central mailbox through their local copy of Outlook. I want to be able to save these emails so that all users can see the generated emails in the "Drafts" folder of their Outlook so that they can check the emails first for any errors and then send it off. I was originally simply talking directly to the Outlook app on the server using Microsoft.Office.Interop but have since read that it is not recommended for use in this sort of scenario. Any ideas?

  Como el acceso a la documentación está restringido, sólo voy a comentar por encima algunos temas o planteamientos que me han llamado la atención del VI Foro Hospital Digital 2011, organizado por iiR. Y comienzo destacando la buena moderación de Maribel Grau del Hospital Clínic de Barcelona que estuvo sobria, eficaz y motivadora del debate. Me impresionó el proyecto Hospital Líquido del Hospital San Joan de Deu de Barcelona por el compromiso corporativo con una medicina colaborativa involucrando a los pacientes y a los profesionales, con unas iniciativas de eSalud y Salud2.0 avanzadas y apoyadas en un buen soporte legal, tecnológico, de los profesionales y con procesos bien definidos. Es un tema corporativo y no una prueba, como bien explicó Jorge Juan Fernández y detalló después Júlia Cutillas, cuyo rol, por cierto, es de Community Manager. En el debate salió el tema del retorno de la inversión y ese es un tema inmaduro, ya que es difícil de encontrar métricas adecuadas, pero no dudan de su continuidad ya que forma parte de una estrategia corporativa, en la que siempre hay elementos que forman parte de los costes generales y que se consideran necesarios para prestar el nivel de servicio que se desea ofrecer. Cecilia Pérez desde su posición como Jefe de Implantación de HCE en el Hospital de Móstoles hizo énfasis en la importancia de la gestión efectiva del cambio cuando se implanta un sistema de historia clínica electrónica que pasa por una inicial negación de los usarios al cambio, que luego presentan una resistencia al prinicipio para luego empezar a explorar posibilidades y llegar a un compromiso con el cambio. Santiago Borrás, Jefe de Sistemas del Hospital del Henares, partió de un hospital digital, pero eso no es más que el comienzo. Tras tres años la frustración de los profesionales es no perderse entre demasiada información. La etapa necesaria tras la digitalición es la generación y compartición del cononocimiento. Cristina Ibarrola, Directora de Atención Primaria del SNS-O comentó la experiencia de las interconsultas primaria-especializada que reducen la carga asistencial en primaria al aumentar la resolución. Hay una reserva de tiempos específicos en las agendas de los profesionales de ambos lados para garantizar una respuesta en un máximo de 48 horas. Eso ha llevado a una flexibiliazación de la agenda de los médicos de primaria que tienen un 25% más de tiempo para las consultas presenciales. Parece que aquí la opción tomada es dar más tiempo por paciente en vez de más pacientes, supongo que en parte porque la presión asistencial en Navarra tengo entendido que no es tan fuerte como en otras zonas. Alejandra Cubero comentó la experiencia de identificación de pacientes y de inteoperabilidad en Hospitales de Madrid. Ana Rosa Pulido presentó los logros del SES y su proyecto actual de Imagen Médica No Radiológica. Richard Bernat explicó la experiencia de HCE de Salud de la Mujer Dexeus, indicando que si bien no hay métricas del retorno de la inversión, sí hay una percepción del valor por las diferentes direcciones. Arturo Quesada glosó la experiencia de Jimena en el Hospital de Ávila, Joan Chafer desgranó el arduo proceso de introducción de sucesivas soluciones digitales en el Hospital Clínico San Carlos de Madrid comenzando por “Hogar Digital”, todo ello con financiación externa o recursos propios y cerró el turno de intervenciones no comerciales Pedro A. • How to hide distribution group from "All Groups" Address Book in Outlook 2010?

  I'm working with Outlook 2010 and Exchange 2010 and while writing this post I found another post on the topic but it was for Exchange 2007. It mentioned Address List Segregation which, as it turns out, is not supported in Exchange 2010. So it seems another method is required. I've successfully hidden a distribution group from the GAL by removing the Authenticated Users group but the group is still visible in the Address Book called "All Groups". I would expect it to be hidden in all address books not just the GAL. Are there any other security groups I should remove to hide it from All Groups? To give visibility in the GAL I am manually adding the user (the group is being used for Send As purposes). In the image below the green line represents where the group is visible and the red line indicates the opposite.

  I am trying to open an additional mailbox in Outlook 2003 for one of my users. She already has three additional mailboxes in the list (found in the advanced account settings), and these work fine. When I click the "Add..." button, it immediately reports: The name could not be resolved. The action could not be completed. This is before I am prompted for the name. We're using an externally hosted Exchange 2007 server. How do I resolve this?

  I am trying to create a custom search folder in outlook 2010. I am using the "advanced" tab in the "search folder criteria" dialog. One of the criteria I need is the read/unread status of an message. But the "field" dropdown does not contain a field corresponding to read/unread status (see screen shot below). This is odd because the read/unread status is available in the "More Choices" tab, but seemingly not in the "advanced" tab. How do I create an advanced search folder criteria which incorporates the read/unread status of a message?

I am just moving over from Linux and am used to being able to do this quite simply in some clients. At first I thought it was the option of "Other E-Mail address" on the From drop down menu in a compose window, but that seems to do... nothing! I want to be able to do this so I can have email look like it comes from a domain I own but do not wish to run an SMTP server on.

  Hiya. I installed outlook express 2007 and i configured it for my e-mail account. it seems that i cannot remove the personal folders and i cannot configure the gmail Mail file to be as default. (it's translated from hebrew so i hope i got the menu words correct) when i go to tools - manage accounts - data files i see 2 files, one for personal folders and the other for my gmail. the personal folder is the default one and i can't remove it and i can't set my gmail mail file to be the default. how can i resolve the issue? thanks!

• Can I send HTML mails in Outlook Web Access?

  Hi, In my organization some of the employees are located elsewhere from headquarter and therefore they are using the Outlook Web Access (OWA) to receive and send E-mails. The problem lies in the format in how E-mails are sending and forwarded. When receiving an E-mail which has HTML context (e.g. tables) it shows it right enough but when the same E-mail is forwarded it completely disturb the layout and it seems like it only can send in pure text. Is there any way I can enable HTML to me used for sending and forwarding E-mails through OWA, either via the settings in the OWA or our Exchange server? Thanks Sincerely Mestika

  I had an older PC running Win7 and the motherboard died on me. I've since updated my PC to another Win7 machine running a RAID 0 along with my old HDD installed as an extra drive. The problem is, I need to somehow import my Outlook email accounts (10) and rules along with my IE usernames and adjacent stored passwords for all the sites I've visited. I don't want to have to recreate the wheel for all this data. What I've found is that I have to run regedit in order to do so, but I cannot seem to boot to the old drive in order to run regedit and export the files. Can someone please help me?

• MS-Outlook add-on to move a new message to the same folder as the rest of the thread

  I'm forced to use MS-Outlook in my job, while I very much like the feature that shows all the messages of a discussion thread (that are stored in different folders) in the inbox when a new message is received for that thread, if the previous messages are in a different data file (which I'm forced to have as the MS-Exchange server quota is very very small) then the message list only shows the name of the data file and not the name of the folder where the messages are stored. As a result, because I file my message by context (i.e. all the emails for project A go into a "Project A" folder, etc), and its important for me to have all the messages in a single thread in the same folder, it is sometimes hard to figure out into which folder should I file the new message. It would be great help if there was some add-on or VBA script that I could add to my setup that will offer a shortcut key or a button to "file this message to the same folder as the previous messages in the conversation thread".

  Following an acquisition we are switching from our local Exchange to an outside provider. I need to change account settings / create new profile so that users are able to access their new mailbox, and I hate the idea of doing it manually on every single client. I have tried quick and dirty solution with copying profile information from Registry on one computer to the other, hoping that I could fix user info later. Quite obviously, this didn't work: Outlook recognized the profile, I could select it at the application startup, but there the fun ends - the profile was corrupt. I couldn't change settings in Mail settings on Control panel, either. Didn't find any Group policy solution. Is there any application, script or other solution, that would help me save time commuting from one PC to the other and typing the same info over and over again?

  New Macbook Pro came in yesterday with MS Office Outlook crashes consistently on importing from .pst after about 30 seconds. I see a EXC_BAD_ACCESS and something about CF get string length or the like. Tried 2 different .pst files created on different dates of different folders. Mail and Thunderbird lack options for importing from .PST. I can export to .csv but still didn't see an option for importing that. How can I get my .pst files into an e-mail client on the Mac?

• Trigger event on email send with old VB6 Outlook add-in

  I have a fairly old Outlook add-in written in VB6. This adds a toolbar on the Outlook ribbon with buttons for various bits of functionality which interact with emails in the inbox, the contact list and calendar. I have been asked if it would be possible to trigger some of the functions of this add-in when a user hits "Send" on an email. Does anyone know if it is possible to hook a VB6 program into the send event, or if it would be possible to write a new plugin, using .Net as an example, which could hook into the send event and trigger the functionality on the old plug in?? Sorry if this is a bit vague, it is a little hard to explain. If you need to know anything further, just ask, otherwise any advice is greatly appreciated!

• How can I forward Mailer Daemon notifications in Outlook 2000?

  I have a rule in Outlook 2000 which states that any incoming message should be forwarded to another adress (The mailaccount is only used to send automatic alerts and notifications of an application, answers to this adress should be forwarded to the admin of this application). When the application tries to send an eMail to a non existent adress, the resulting Mailer Daemon notification won't be forwarded and the admin of the server will notice this problem very late (if ever). Is there a way to forward such messages to another adress? The problem seems to be, that Exchange delivers such notifications as "Report" but the rules will only apply to "Messages". • ability to see free/busy detail information for conference rooms in Outlook 2007 and Microsoft hosted Exchange solution

  recently my company migrated from an in-house Exchange server to the Microsoft hosted exchange online solution. My client is Outlook 2007. Before the migration, I could see the details of the meetings when I hovered on the busy blue bar for a resource such as a conference room. I could click on the meetings and see the invite list and the contents of the meeting. Ofcourse if the meeting was marked as private I could not. however after the migration to the online solution, I cannot see the detailed information. I can still see if the room is busy or not but I can no longer see the details of that meeting. The IT folks can see the information and they claim that they can see it because they have full admin rights. It is their claim that in the hosted Exchange solution you can either have full access (admin access) and see the details or not see anything but just that the room is busy. there is no middle ground such as being able to see the details of the meeting but not having any admin rights. For some reason I believe this to be not true. Can someone please verify my doubts and inform me of what needs to be done to see that information if my IT folks are wrong? thanks
