    I want Java code that can compare in this way (for example): <1 2 3 4> = <3 1 2 4> <1 2 3 4> != <3 4 1 1> I can't use hashmap table or anything; just pure code without library. I know there are two ways. sort them and compare the array index by index use two for loops and compare the outer index with the inner index.   • Chat Server with sockets in C

    I'm trying to write a chat server in C that allows communication between two clients using POSIX sockets. I'm not sure I have a good grasp on this concept or how I should set up the communication protocol between the clients and the server. I know I need one socket to bind() the server port to so I can accept incoming connections from clients, but in order to have two clients connected at the same time do I need to create a socket for each of these clients when I accept() or should I accept() a client and then fork() so I can have another client accept? I'm not worried about concurrent chatting yet, it's more of a ping-pong approach where the clients need to wait for a recv() after they send() before they can type a new message.

    Write the pseudocode of an algorithm that takes in two arbitrary length numbers (provided as strings), and computes the product of these numbers. Use an efficient procedure for multiplication of large numbers of arbitrary length. Analyze the efficiency of your algorithm. I decided to take the (semi) easy way out and use the Russian Peasant Algorithm. It works like this: a * b = a/2 * 2b if a is even a * b = (a-1)/2 * 2b + a if a is odd My pseudocode is: rpa(x, y){ if x is 1 return y if x is even return rpa(x/2, 2y) if x is odd return rpa((x-1)/2, 2y) + y } I have 3 questions: Is this efficient for arbitrary length numbers? I implemented it in C and tried varying length numbers. The run-time in was near-instant in all cases so it's hard to tell empirically... Can I apply the Master's Theorem to understand the complexity...? a = # subproblems in recursion = 1 (max 1 recursive call across all states) n / b = size of each subproblem = n / 1 - b = 1 (problem doesn't change size...?) f(n^d) = work done outside recursive calls = 1 - d = 0 (the addition when a is odd) a = 1, b^d = 1, a = b^d - complexity is in n^d*log(n) = log(n) this makes sense logically since we are halving the problem at each step, right? What might my professor mean by providing arbitrary length numbers "as strings". Why do that? Many thanks in advance

    I've posted a code snippet on another forum asking for help and people pointed out to me that using GoTo statements is very bad programming practice. I'm wondering: why is it bad? What alternatives to GoTo are there to use in VB.NET that would be considered generally more of a better practice? Consider this snippet below where the user has to input their date of birth.   • What's the difference between the [OptionalField] and [NonSerialized]

    I came across this question on transcender: What should you apply to a field if its value is not required during deserialization? Me = [NonSerialized], ANSWER = [OptionalField] My gut reaction was NonSerialised, I have no idea why but in the space of 5 seconds thats what I thought but to my surprise, Transcender says I am wrong. OK fair enough .... but why? looking more closely at the question I have a good idea what to look out for as far as the [Nonseralized] attribute is concerned but still I would really like this clearing up. As far as I can tell the former has relationship with versioning conflicts between newer and older versions of the same assembly. The later is more concerned with not serializing a field FULLSTOP. Is there anything else that might pick these two apart? MSDN does not really say much about this as they both are used on the BinaryFormatters and SoapFormatter with the XMLFormatter using the XMLIgnoreAttribute. My second question is can you mix and match either one of the two attributes ... I am yet to use them as I have not had an excuse to mess about with them. So my curiosity can only go so far. Just throwing this one out there, but does my answer have something to do with the way [OnDeserialized] and the IdeserilizationCallback interface is implemented???? Am guessing here .... Thanks In Advance UPDATE: I know that optional field attribute does not serialize the value held by a data member but NonSerialized will not even serialise the data member or its value. That sounds about a right???? That's all I got on these two attributes.

    I'm doing a E/R model for a project. I finished the ER model and, for me, all is okay. Maybe not perfect, but it's okay. When I gave the ER model to my teacher, he told me this: "the m:n relations MUST HAVE some properties" He said if the m:n relationship doesn't have the properties it will be wrong. In my opinion m:n doesn't need forcer attributes to the relationship, but if you have someone that can fit in it, just put there. What do you think? Who is wrong in this, me, or my teacher? NOTE: Reading again, it seems what he said was not due to my ER diagram, but was a general statement. The diagram I gave him doesn't have relations yet, so there where just entities and atributes.

What changes do I need to make? EDIT: I tried 'HashSet' as well and had tried using the extends keyword. However since 'ISolutionSpace' is an interface and EightQueenSolutionSpace is an implementation(and not a subclass) of 'ISolutionSpace', it is still not working.

    Program a SCHEME function sat that takes one argument, a CNF formula represented as above. If we had evaluated (define cnf '((a (not b) c) (a (not b) (not d)) (b d))) then evaluating (sat cnf) would return #t, whereas (sat '((a) (not a))) would return (). You should have following two functions to work: (define comp (lambda (lit) ; This function takes a literal as argument and returns the complement literal as the returning value. (define consistent (lambda (lit path) This function takes a literal and a list of literals as arguments, and returns #t whenever the complement of the first argument is not a member of the list represented by the 2nd argument; () otherwise. . Now for the sat function. The real searching involves the list of clauses (the CNF formula) and the path that has currently been developed. The sat function should merely invoke the real "workhorse" function, which will have 2 arguments, the current path and the clause list. In the initial call, the current path is of course empty. Hints on sat. (Ignore these at your own risk!)
