• How do you preform an EJB lookup with application security?

  I'm trying to lookup an EJB from a standalone java application. I'm thinking in terms of WebSphere Application Server 6.1, but if someone knows how to do this for another application server, it may get me in the right direction. What I'm currently doing: initialContext= new InitialContext(env); initialContext.lookup(""); lc = new LoginContext("WSLogin", new WSCallbackHandlerImpl("wasadmin", "defaultWIMFileBasedRealm", "wasadmin")); lc.login(); subject = lc.getSubject(); WSSubject.setRunAsSubject(subject); This isn't working... my subject is still "/UNAUTHENTICATED", and I get an error when I try to lookup the EJB. I'm also specifying the following parameters to the VM when executing the application: -Dcom.ibm.CORBA.ConfigURL="C:\was\profiles\AppSrv01\properties\sas.client.props" -Djava.security.auth.login.config="C:\was\profiles\AppSrv01\properties\wsjaas_client.conf"

• Entity Framework Create Database & Tables At Runtime

  I created some tables in an .edmx file and have been generating the database by selecting "Generate Database From Model" and manually executing an .edmx.sql file on the database to build the tables. Now, however, I am creating a setup dialog that allows the user to connect the program up to their own database. I thought running context.CreateDatabase would be good enough to create the database, along with the tables, but the tables are not created. What is the preferred method for creating the database and tables when the user specifies their own server and database to use, when originally starting with a model?

  I want to pass variable arguments obtained in one function to other function but I am not able to do so. Function gets even number of variable arguments and then it has to be converted in array. Below is the example. Procedure abc1 gets two arguments (k k) and not form abc1 procedure these have to be passed to proc abc where list to array conversion it to be done. • Unit testing task queues in AppEngine

  For a very long time now I've been using task queues on AppEngine to schedule tasks, just the way I'm supposed to. But what I've always been wondering is how does one write tests for that? Until now I've simply made tests to make sure an error doesn't occur on the API that queues a task and then wrote the more proper tests for the API executing the task. However lately I've started feeling a bit unsatisfied by this and I'm searching for a way to actually test that the correct task has been added to the correct queue. Hopefully this can be done better than simply by deploying the code and hoping for the best. I'm using django-nonrel, if that has any bearing on the answer. To recap: How can a unit test be written to confirm tasks have been queued?

• Vim: How to handle newlines when storing multiple commands in registers?

  I have a file where I store snippets of vim commands. When I need a snippet, I yank it and then execute it with @". The snippets are stored as a script, one line per command, like this: :s/foo/bar/g :echo "hello" :s/1/2/g Edit: I removed normal mode commands from the example, as they were not part of the problem. Now this procedure doesn't work anymore: when executing the snippet, it just stops at the first line as if waiting for a newline. Is there an option somewhere affecting how @ is executed? I'm pretty sure it was working some time ago... Substituting the newline with a ^M character works but makes the file more difficult to handle. Additional information: Here's another symptom: when I yank a snippet, if I execute it with @" it stops at the first line as I just explained. But if I execute it with :@ it works. But the help file doesn't seem to imply any difference in how the two commands treat the register's content...

• Prevent Excel from evaluating unneeded expressions in OR()

  IF(OR(ISNA(MATCH(8,B10:B17,0)),MATCH(8,B10:B17,0)>8),"",...BLAH...) I understand how to fix this problem by rearranging my formula. I have it the way it is to show this point. You can see the OR() statement checks to see if the first MATCH() returns NA. When it does, OR() should automatically return TRUE and not evaluate the second MATCH() because conditions have been met for the OR() to return true no matter what other arguments there are. You'll notice that the first and second MATCH() functions do the same thing. What's happening is the entire function is returning NA because the second MATCH() is executing even though it doesn't have to, the OR() has been satisfied with one TRUE, therefore the function should return "". Is this a bug or is this intentional?

• SSAS Reporting Services - Set specific language / translation

  Hi all, in the data warehouse there's a default language for the measures, and I added a translation for German captions. In a Visual Studio Report Server project, when creating a query with my German OS, the cube and its measures are displayed in German language. When dragging measures to the mdx query windows, the default measure name is used. That's what I want and what I expect, since when writing MDX queries I would like to use the default measure names. But when executing the query, the columns created for each measure is translated to German again. This resuls in having German columns names within my dataset, which I dont want. I'd like to have the english column names. I already tried to change the connection string to: Data Source=server;Initial Catalog=DataWarehouse;LocaleIdentifier=1033 But that doesn't help, I still see German translations. Anyone knows how to set a specific translation?

• Perl: Why does "use strict" not let me pass a parameter hash?

  I hava a perl subroutine where i would like to pass parameters as a hash (the aim is to include a css depending on the parameter 'iconsize'). • Performance optimization for mssql: decrease stored procedures execution time or unload the server?

  Hello everybody! We have a web service which provides search over hotels. There is a problem with performance: a single request to the service takes around 5000 ms. Almost all of the time is spent in database by executing storing procedures. During the request our server (mssql2008) consumes ~90% of the processor time. When 2 requests are made in parallel the average time grows and is around 7000 ms. When number of request is increasing, the average time of response is increasing as well. We have 20-30 requests per minute. Which kind of optimization is the best in this case having in mind that the goal is to provide stable response time for the service: 1) Try to decrease the stored procedures execution time 2) Try to find the way how to unload the server It is interesting to hear from people who deal with booking sites.   hey guys, i'm trying to set up a server for integration tests (specs actually) via ruby and can't figure out how to control the process. so, what i'm trying to do is: run a rake task for my gem that executes the integration specs the task needs to first start a server (i use webrick) and then run the specs after executing the specs it should kill the webrick so i'm not left with some unused background process webrick is not a requirement, but it's included in the ruby standard library so being able to use it would be great. hope anyone is able to help! ps. i'm running on linux, so having this work for windows is not my main priority (right now).

• Referenced assembly won't load in new thread on IIS 7

  I have a process in which a user uploads a file to a web site where the file is then processed and uploaded into the database. The process of validating the file could take several minutes so as soon as the file is uploaded I create a new thread and I do my processing on this second thread. This works great on my local machine but doesn't work at all on my IIS 7 test server. After some investigating I found the problem is that the process is trying to load a reference to Castle and it can't find the DLL. I have a copy of Castle DLLs in my bin and it works elsewhere in my app. I ran Fuslog and discovered that it is trying to load castle from the wrong location. It is trying to load from c:/windows/system32/inetsrv/. It appears that under IIS 7 the second thread is executing in a different context or something. So the question is what can I do to get it to find Castle in the application BIN folder?

• How can one use multi threading in php applications

  Is there a realistic way of implementing a multi-threaded model in php whether truly or just simulating it. Some time back it was suggested that you can force the operating system to load another instance of the php executable and handle other simultaneous processes. The problem with this is that when the php code finished executing the php instance remains in memory because there is no way to kill it from within php. so if you are simulating several threads you can imagine whats going to happen. So am still looking for a way multi-threading can be done or simulated effectively from within php. Any ideas?

  I need to select records say 2000 from a table with a matching timestamp from c# .net code. Eg: SELECT * FROM ITEMDATA_TABLE WHERE ITEMNAME='Item1' and TimeStamp='2010-04-26 17:15:05.667' The above query has to execute for 2000 items more for the same timestamp. for this we can use SELECT * FROM ITEMDATA_TABLE WHERE ITEMNAME in ('Item1','Item2','Item3','Item4',......) AND TimeStamp='2010-04-26 17:15:05.667' from SQL Server Management Studio. I have tried appending all Item names to one string variable and giving it as a parameter to the stored procedure,but it resulted into a wrong concatenation. How can I do this as a stored procedure executing from the .net code? Can anyone suggest me/correct me in doing this? Thanks & Regards Padma

  How does application/JVM know which classes if implemented key handling interfaces ? Does it use java Reflections or does it check all the classes for methods ? How can a application or executing JVM understanding to deliver the user event or call the specific methods on a class that implemented the keylistener interface. Does it look at all the classes if those methods are implemented or how does it know which classes implmented keylistener interface ? If you dont implement the keylistener Interface for a class but still implmentation all its methods. Do the class still process the user event occurred ?

• c# EnumerateFiles wildcard returning non matches?

  As a simplified example I am executing the following IEnumerable<string> files = Directory.EnumerateFiles(path, @"2010*.xml", SearchOption.TopDirectoryOnly).ToList(); In my results set I am getting a few files which do no match the file pattern. According to msdn searchPattern wildcard is "Zero or more characters" and not a reg ex. An example is that I am getting a file name back as "2004_someothername.xml". For information there are in excess of 25,000 files in the folder. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

• Deploy PHP website to client server without showing PHP files

  I asked a recent question regarding the use of readfile() for remotely executing PHP, but maybe I'd be better off setting out the problem to see if I'm thinking the wrong way about things, so here goes: I have a PHP website that requires users to login, includes lots of forms, database connections and makes use of $_SESSION variables to keep track of various things I have a potential client who would like to use the functionality of my website, but on their own server, controlled by them. They would probably want to restyle the website using content and CSS files local to their server, but that's a problem for later I don't want to show them my PHP code, since that's the value of what I'd be providing. I had thought to do this with calls to include() from the client's server to mine, which at least keeps variable scope intact, but many sites (and the PHP docs) seem to recommend readfile(), file_get_contents() or similar. Ideally I'd like to have a simple wrapper file on the client's server for each "real" one on my server. Any suggestions as to how I might accomplish what I need? Thanks, ColmF

  I have a swing Java application that preserves a lot of data (you can think of a game and its saves for example). Those data are stored in files rather then in database. I would like to keep this files near installation files(.jar file) of my application.Some users(like me) are used to delete default application folder of OS when it comes to large and I don't want them to loose their data this way. Any ideas how to do this easily ? How do I get the folder of the .jar file from program that is executing form that .jar file? Or how do I output files directly into some package? How do I create packages(folders inside jar) dynamically ? Or is there a simple way to distribute Java application in other formats then .jar and then store generated data in installation (sub)folder ? Thanks for reading

  I have a Spinner and 2 buttons in an Activity Group. I want to apply rounded corner to the buttons. I have created shape xml resource file for round button in Android. I have assigned this resource file as background to the button while creating the button in Layout. But the change is not reflected after executing the application. I have set the ContentView for that screen as : setContentView(LayoutInflater.from(getParent()).inflate(R.layout.textmessage,null)); This has to be done to make spinner work in an Activity Group. • Why would Django fcgi just die? How can I find out?

  I'm running Django on Linux using fcgi and Lighttpd. Every now and again (about once a day) the server just dies. I'm using the latest stable release of Django, Python and Lighttpd. The only thing I can think of is that my program is opening a lot of files and executing a lot of external processes, but I'm fairly sure that side of things is watertight. Looking at the error and access logs, there's nothing exceptional happening (i.e. load isn't above normal). On those occasions where I have had exceptions from Python, these have shown up in the error.log, but when this crash happens I get nothing. Is there any way of finding out why the process died? Short of putting logging statements on every single line? Obviously I can't reproduce this so I don't know exactly where to look.

• Are `return` and `break` useless inside a Ruby block when used as a callback?

  In Rails, blocks can be used as callbacks, e.g.: class User < ActiveRecord::Base validates_presence_of :login, :email before_create {|user| user.name = user.login.capitalize if user.name.blank?} end When a block is used like this, is there any use for break and return? I'm asking because normally in a block, break will break out of the loop, and return will return from the enclosing method. But in a callback context, I can't get my head round what that means. The Ruby Programming Language suggests that return could cause a LocalJumpError but I haven't been able to reproduce this in a Rails callback. Edit: with the following code I'd expect a LocalJumpError, but all the return does is stop the rest of the callback executing. class User < ActiveRecord::Base validates_presence_of :login, :email before_create do |user| return user.name = user.login.capitalize end

  I am currently trying to make a Jar with all my librairies included. What I have done. I have created folders like this : - main folder - class (which contain all my classes) - ressources (containing all my librairies : mongo, jedis...) - MANIFEST.MF My main class is named process. My manifest is like this : Main-Class: processEAN Class-Path: ressources\commons-pool-1.5.6.jar ressources\jedis-2.0.0.jar resources\mongo-2.6.3.jar class - I have generated the JAR with this command : jar cvmf MANIFEST.MF processEAN.jar class/*.class ressources/*.jar My problem : When executing the JAR I have still the message "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: processEAN" Any ideas ? • Do you know any build systems with decent support for parallelization?

  Hi, I am looking for a build system (working on ms windows) that has good support for parallelization of tasks/targets (or whatever you call them). To be more specific - during build (that is initiated on MS Windows machine) I need to copy source files to a number of different machines (which are not necessarily running Windows) and start a remote job on each of them - and I really like to do that on all machines at once. Does anyone know a build system that's capable of executing such a task in parallel. From what I googled, the options currently available are: -j switch in make - but i don't know if nmake supports this -some custom nAnt tasks -msbuild has some form of support for parallelization - seems similiar to make (meaning you don't specify what to do in parallel, just specify that it would be nice to build things that way) -fake (f# make) is written in functional programming language which are known to have good parallelization support - but I'm not very skillful in functional programming area. Any other solutions I could explore?
