• Architecture Suggestions/Recommendations for a Web Application with Sub-Apps

  Hello. I’m starting to plan an architecture for a big web application, and I wanted to get suggestions and/or recommendations on where to begin and which technologies and/or frameworks to use. The application will be an Intranet-based web site using Windows authentication, running on IIS and using SQL Server and ASP.NET. It’ll need to be structured as a main/shell application with sub-applications that are “pluggable” based on some configuration settings. The main or shell application is to provide the overall user interface structure – header/footer, dynamically built tabs for each available sub-app, and a content area in which the sub-application will be loaded when the user clicks on the sub-application’s tab. So, on start-up of the main/shell application, configuration information will be queried from a database, and, based on the user and which of the sub-apps are available, the main or shell app would dynamically build tabs (or buttons or something) as a way to access each individual application. On start-up, the content area will be populated with the “home” sub-app. But, clicking on an sub-app tab will cause the content area to be populated with the sub-app corresponding to the tab. For example, we’re going to have a reports application, a display application, and probably a couple other distinct applications. On startup of the main/shell application, after determining who the user is, the main app will query the database to determine which sub-apps the user can use and build out the UI. Then the user can navigate between available sub-apps and do their work in each. Finally, the entire app and all sub-apps need to be a layered design with presentation, service, business, and data access layers, as well as cross-cutting objects for things such as logging, exception handling, etc. Anyway, my questions revolve around where to begin to plan something like this application. What technologies/frameworks would work best in developing a solution for this application? MVC? MVP? WCSF? EF? NHibernate? Enterprise Library? Repository Pattern? Others???? I know all these technologies/frameworks are not used for the same purpose, but knowing which ones to focus on is a little overwhelming. Which ones would be the best choice(s) for a solution? Which ones work well together for an end-to-end design? How would one structure the VS project for something like this? Thanks!

• AngularJS recursive directive with a dynamic HTML template (bounty)

  I have a realy hard task here. I am working on an AngularJS web app, which is capable of sending different HTTP methods to our project's Restful Web Service and receiving responses in JSON. Basicaly it looks like this: You can create some REST resource from this application. Let's say an exam. To create an exam - you pick a resource from a list of available resources. This triggers a function, that sends a request to localhost:8080/STEP/api/explain/resorceName and gets a description for this resource. I need to create a recursive directive, which would be capable of generating fields in such maner as described above for every resource's field that has "restResourceName" not null. To get all it's fields you just send a request to localhost:8080/STEP/api/explain/restResourceName and get similar JSON response as shown above, which is then used to build HTML elements for inputing values into model. Does anyone know how this can be achieved using angular recursive directive? Every useful answer is highly appreciated and evaluated. • JSON datetime to SQL Server database via WCF

  I have noticed a problem over the past couple of days where my dates submitted to an sql server database are wrong. I have a webpage, where users can book facilities. However, when I do a query in SQL server management studio with the above date format ("YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS.mmm"), it inserts the correct values. Also, if I submit a millisecond datetime to the wcf, the correct date is being inserted. The problem seems to be with the format I am submitting. I am a little lost with this problem.   I'm pretty new to objective-C (and C in general) and iPhone development and am coming from the java island, so there are some fundamentals that are quite tough to learn for me. I'm diving right into iOS5 and want to use storyboards. For now I am trying to setup a list in a UITableViewController that will be filled with values returned by a web service in the future. For now, I just want to generate some mock objects and show their names in the list to be able to proceed. • Router Alert options on IGMPv2 packets

  I'm trying to forge an IGMPv2 Membership Request packet and send it on a RAW socket. The RFC 3376 states: IGMP messages are encapsulated in IPv4 datagrams, with an IP protocol number of 2. Every IGMP message described in this document is sent with an IP Time-to-Live of 1, IP Precedence of Internetwork Control (e.g., Type of Service 0xc0), and carries an IP Router Alert option [RFC-2113] in its IP header So the IP_ROUTER_ALERT flag must be set. • BroadcastReciever doesn't show SMS not Send or Not delivered

  While using broadcastreciver for checking sms status, it shows the toast when sms is sent but shows nothing when sms is not sent or delivered (im testing it by putting an abrupt number). the code im using is the one ive seen the most on every site of checking sms delivery status. But my code is only showing the status when sms is sent successfully. Can any one get a hint of what am i doing wrong ? I hav this method in doInBackground() and so obviously im using AsyncTask. • installing a package with xml based configuration in python

  Hi, I am planning to write a generic python module for installing a package. This script should retrieve the module from a remote machine or locally and install it on a given host and user. However, there needs to be changes made to the package files based on the host, user and given environment. My approach is to use XML to describe changes to be made to package files based on environment. It will first extract the package to the user directory and then using an xml configuration file, it should replace the file values in the package directory. • @Transactional in Spring+Hibernate

  I an using Spring 3.1 + Hibernate 4.x in my web application. In my DAO, i am saving User type object as following sessionFactory.getCurrentSession().save(user); But getting following exception: org.hibernate.HibernateException: save is not valid without active transaction I googled and found similar question on SO, with following solution: Session session=getSessionFactory().getCurrentSession(); Transaction trans=session.beginTransaction(); session.save(entity); trans.commit(); That solves the problem. But in that solution, there is lot of mess of beginning and committing the transactions manually. Can't i use sessionFactory.getCurrentSession().save(user); directly without begin/commit of transactions manually? I try to use @Transactional on my service/dao methods too, but the problem persists.   This is regarding Spring OpenSessionInViewFilter using with @Transactional annotation at service layer. i went through so many stack overflow post on this but still confused about whether i should use OpenSessionInViewFilter or not to avoid LazyInitializationException It would be great help if somebody help me find out answer to below queries. Is it bad practice to use OpenSessionInViewFilter in application having complex schema. using this filter can cause N+1 problem if we are using OpenSessionInViewFilter does it mean @Transactional not required? • How to auto-generate early bound properties for Entity specific (ie Local) Option Set text values?

  After spending a year working with the Microsoft.Xrm.Sdk namespace, I just discovered yesterday the Entity.FormattedValues property contains the text value for Entity specific (ie Local) Option Set texts. The reason I didn't discover it before, is there is no early bound method of getting the value. i.e. entity.new_myOptionSet is of type OptionSetValue which only contains the int value. You have to call entity.FormattedValues["new_myoptionset"] to get the string text value of the OptionSetValue. Therefore, I'd like to get the crmsrvcutil to auto-generate a text property for local option sets. i.e. Along with Entity.new_myOptionSet being generated as it currently does, Entity.new_myOptionSetText would be generated as well. I've looked into the Microsoft.Crm.Services.Utility.ICodeGenerationService, but that looks like it is mostly for specifying what CodeGenerationType something should be... Is there a way supported way using CrmServiceUtil to add these properties, or am I better off writing a custom app that I can run that can generate these properties as a partial class to the auto-generated ones? Edit - Example of the code that I would like to be generated Currently, whenever I need to access the text value of a OptionSetValue, I use this code: var textValue = OptionSetCache.GetText(service, entity, e => e.New_MyOptionSet); The option set cache will use the entity.LogicalName, and the property expression to determine the name of the option set that I'm asking for. It will then query the SDK using the RetrieveAttriubteRequest, to get a list of the option set int and text values, which it then caches so it doesn't have to hit CRM again. It then looks up the int value of the New_MyOptionSet of the entity and cross references it with the cached list, to get the text value of the OptionSet. Instead of doing all of that, I can just do this (assuming that the entity has been retrieved from the server, and not just populated client side): var textValue = entity.FormattedValues["new_myoptionset"]; but the "new_myoptionset" is no longer early bound. I don't know why the while loop isn't checking the condition, seeing that I did enter one of the characters in the condition, and move on to cout. • VB.Net 2008 IDE hanging - MSVB7.dll eating 100% CPU when editing code

  I am having a problem with msvb7.dll eating 50%+ cpu on my dual core system. This usually lasts 10-30 seconds or so, during which time the IDE is non-responsive. This occurs when I do pretty much anything in the text editor, and can be replicated by simply adding blank lines to a function, and then deleting them. Or pasting some code. Or... lotsa stuff. SP1 installed I had DevExpress' refactor/coderush, components, and codeit.right installed, but have removed all 3 of them. (I had installed the latest version of Refactor Pro! (9.3.4), perhaps the day before) I have tried a VS.NET Repair. There is a kb that referenced some cpu destroying with vb, but it was included in SP1 Also: The solution consists of ~30 VB projects and 2 C# projects 8 other developers aren't having any issues with this (or at least not the SAME issues, we all have em) Clean get from TFS was done Project builds properly, can can even debug. This doesn't seem to happen on really small solutions, but perhaps it does and it just goes away super quick. Any clues at all as to what might be causing this, or how to fix it? I REALLY don't want to lose another day uninstalling and reinstalling and patching and so on =) If that even fixes it. • Error starting JBoss 5.1.0

  I've installed JBoss 5.1.0 on a Xubuntu (running as a guest on VMWare - Windows 7 host). It did work fine for some days, but now I'm completelly unable to start it anymore. Every time I try to start it, I got a "Port 8x83 already in use". I've tried to run it with different ports configurations, and none of them works. I did look for the services using the problematic ports, using netstat and lsof, but they never show up. Since this error occurs in all port configurations, I think this is a Jboss problem. • Ubuntu 10.10 Ad-Hoc Setup (from Wireless Router, to Ubuntu Server/Desktop to Wireless Router)

  Okay, so I know there are different approaches for this, but I will explain my story briefly before getting to the technical stuff. My fiancée and I are going through some financial issues (as I assume a lot of us are). We ended up having to move from our house and stay with some friends/family for 6 months, just to get ourselves caught up. (Medical bills, among other issues,etc). So this is where it gets fun. At our friends house, we are staying in the loft setup which is not near the cable modem and wireless router. I have a "hand-crafted" media center running XBMC, an Ubuntu 10.10 Server/Desktop (multi-purpose, very powerful and tons drive space), two working laptops, a between the two of us we have multiple wireless devices/phones. Now our friends Wireless router doesn't have any options for assigning IP addresses, but my router does. My current setup is: Friends Cable Modem -- Friend's Wireless Router -- Ubuntu 10.10 Server -- My Wireless Router (local-link from Friend's wireless (incoming) to sharing connection on ETH0 (outgoing)) -- to all devices. (Wireless Modem, Ubuntu Server that share's it's wireless incoming connection to the ethernet port my Wireless router share's with the rest of the devices). I setup my router to use default settings from my friend's router, using Google's DNS on my router (disabled DNS setup on Ubuntu Server), everything is assigned nicely and runs smooth. My Ubuntu server was given the address 10.42.43.1 (assuming standard from Network-Manager). (On the Ubuntu machine that shares to my wireless router; I have some server apps installed, but mainly just use Samba/NFS/Tangerine action. My problem/goal is that every device has no problem of accessing the internet from my router, the media-center has an assigned ip address, all services from all devices (ZeroConf, Avanhi, Bonjour, GIT, SSH, FTP, Apache2, etc) all work correctly except from my Ubuntu Server (which serves the wireless connection to ETH0 to another Wireless Router). The Ubuntu 10.10 Server/Desktop is not broadcasting anything (the Zeroconf Service Discovery 0.4 Gnome Applet shows the services from the Ubuntu server but no other computers can see them). I can access it from my Media-Center (Running Xbuntu 10.04) if I direct it to 10.42.43.1, no problem. But I cannot access Tangerine (Daapd) and the Samba shares do not show up on any computers for 10.42.43.1 (not in the WORKGROUP which Samba is setup simple and default but I can direct computers to that address and the shares will add except on a damn Windows 7 parition). Is this an issue with how I have my router setup and possible the gateway? An issue with Network-Manager? And issue with my Ubuntu Server/Desktop? I know there is a lot to that, but it's simpler than I probably have explained? Any help would be appreciated. If you need more details, I can provide them. If there is a better way of my attempting this home-network, please let me know. Thanks in advance for the help.

I know what I want to achieve just not how to do it :( I have a Cisco 877W router with 4 FastEthernet interfaces, 1 ATM interface and 1 802.11 Radio. • ImgBurn fails to burn data CD-R disk due to "Layouts do not match" error

  I have a reoccurring problem with the program ImgBurn. Whenever I try and burn anything to a CD-R using ImgBurn it burns just fine, except for when I go and verify the disk. It tells me that the "Layouts do not match". Windows 7 shows the disk as completely blank. Although, I see on the bottom of the disk it has been written to. I can burn ISO files to DVD-R's just fine. This only seems to happen with CD-R's. The CD-R's I'm using are Memorex Cool Colors 52x CD-R's. I have looked on Google, and it seems like I'm not the only one this happens to. Unfortunately, no one is able to provide an explanation. I have included the log file from the last CD I just burnt. • How do I remove a root kit from Windows XP?

  I was looking for root kits following these instructions http://computersight.com/software/how-to-manually-remove-rootkit/ and saw this in my boot log: Loaded driver \SystemRoot\System32\Drivers\awhk9fmc.SYS I tried to search for that filename in Google but there was absolutely nothing found. I tried to look at the file on the disk but could not find it. Nearly every other file is there. I even tried to boot in Windows 98 and mount the NTFS and see the file, but it still wasn't there. I ran a full scan with Microsoft Security Essentials but it found nothing. When I rebooted, I saw this line instead: Loaded driver \SystemRoot\System32\Drivers\a6n163gl.SYS How can I remove this? How can I find out what it does? How can I find out when it was put in? How can I find out who wrote it? • How to bridge Debian guest VM to VPN via Cisco AnyConnect Client running on Windows Vista host

  I am running Cisco Anyconnect VPN Client version 2.5.3054 on a laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium (version 6.0.6002) Service Pack 2. I am running the VMware Player version 4.0.2 build-591240. The host operating system running under VMware Player is Debian 6.0.2.1 i386. The laptop is connected to a wireless connection, and I can browse the web from Windows Vista using Firefox just fine. I am able to boot into the Debian VM and open up a browser and access websites on the WAN from within the VM just fine. I can ping real Linux hosts on my LAN via: ping <lan_system>.local where <lan_system> is the hostname returned from uname -a on that system on my LAN. From a DOS CMD shell, I am able to ping hosts that exist on the remote network served by the Cisco AnyConnect Client's VPN network (and without the .local suffix applied as above): ping <remote_system> However, from within the Debian VM, I expect to be able to also ping those same remote hosts (<remote_system>) that are tunnelled over the VPN set up by Cisco AnyConnect Client. Let's say that I can ping a <remote_system> called flubber from a DOS CMD prompt just fine. Is there some way to allow the VM to access those <remote_system>'s?

  I have received the Cisco Prime OVA file and which we placed onto an Oracle virtual environment. We turn the VM on and the CLI boots, When we try to start the NCS service we get errors.
