  • Why can we delete some built-in properties of global object?

    I'm reading es5 these days and find that [[configurable]] attribute in some built-in properties of global object is set to true which means we can delete these properties. For example: the join method of Array.prototype object have attributes {[[Writable]]:true, [[Enumerable]]: false, [[Configurable]]: true} So we can easily delete the join method for Array like: delete Array.prototype.join; alert([1,2,3].join); The alert will display undefined in my chromium 17,firefox 9 ,ie 10,even ie6; In Chrome 15 & safari 5.1.1 the [[configurable]] attribute is set to true and delete result is also true but the final result is still function(){[native code]}. Seems like this is a bug and chromium fix it. I haven't notice that before. In my opinion, delete built-in functions in user's code is dangerous, and will bring out so many bugs when working with others.So why ECMAScript make this decision?

  • Is it better to define all routes in the Global.asax than to define separately in the areas?

    I am working on a MVC 4 project that will serve as an API layer of a larger application. The developers that came before me set up separate Areas to separate different API requests (i.e Search, Customers, Products, and so forth). I am noticing that each Area has separate Area registration classes that define routes for that area. However, the routes defined are not area-specific (i.e. {controller}/{action}/{id} might be defined redundantly in a couple of areas). My instinct would be to move all of these route definitions to a common place like the Global.asax to avoid redundancy and collisions, but I am not sure if I am correct about that.

  • Will the Global Demand for Water Outstrip the Supply by 2030?

    A recent study conducted by the Economist Intelligence Unit and sponsored by Oracle Utilities, titled “Water for All?”,considers the preparedness of utilities to supply water to the current global population of over 7 billion people, with a further 1 billion expected by 2030. It compares strategies used by utilities in 10 major countries to address this challenge. This study’s findings show that wide-ranging water management efforts and large-scale investments must be made if utilities are to meet near-certain water stress—demand outstripping supply—by 2030. The report is based on an online survey of 244 executives of water utilities in these countries, supplemented by in-depth interviews with 20 water utility executives and independent experts. The research concludes that utilities worldwide expect to meet future demand, despite increased supply pressure on supplies, due to improvements in water productivity that the wide range of measures utilities and governments will take to ensure that water is used more efficiently. Is there a way to only always show the close, minimise and maximise buttons on every application? The use case is as follows: I have a maximized application in the background, over it is a not-maximized application that has got focus. I want to close the maximized application. I move the pointer to upper left corner. The buttons do not show, since the background application does not have focus. I have to go back, click on it and then go back to the corner to close it. I do that several times a day :-( .

    I have a web service built for SharePoint 2007 that I am trying to port to SharePoint 2010. This web service is dependent on session state to function properly, but so far, I have been enable to get session state to work at all in SharePoint 2010. This web service runs as its own web application under t he /_vti_bin virtual directory. I have tried all of the following with no luck: Ensured the "State Service" service application is running. Added the System.Web.SessionState.SessionStateModule http module to my application's web.config file. Added the System.Web.SessionState.SessionStateModule http module to my SharePoint root web.config file. Added <pages enableSessionState="true" /> to my application's web.config file. Added <pages enableSessionState="true" /> to my root web.config file. Additional Environment info: Visual Studio 2008 - SP1 .NET 3.5 - SP1 SharePoint 2010 - RC Windows Server 2008 R2 ASMX web service (not WCF) Had anyone had any luck getting a web application or web service to use session state in SharePoint 2010 yet? I am attempting to change the text of a button i have, replacing current text with a date string (dateStringForInput) I am passing in from another class. The button is called myTodayButton and is declared in my .h file for my class inputMilesViewController... @property (strong, nonatomic) IBOutlet UIButton *myTodayButton; Below is the code from my .m. +(void) changeButtonText:(NSString*) dateStringForInput{ NSLog(@"we got to changebuttontext"); [_myTodayButton setTitle:dateStringForInput forState:UIControlStateNormal]; } I am getting the following error "Instance variable "_myTodayButton" accessed in class method. I understand that this is written in a class method rather than an instance method but i cant figure out how to get this change to happen. the button which prompts this call to changeButtonText is in the other class which is creating dateStringForInput. please help! thanks so much! be gentle with me....a bit overwhelmed . :-)

  • Classic ASP Session not working in IIS 7 Windows Server 2008 R2 x64

    Hi, I've been googleing and searching here info about this but so far couldn't find anything relevant to my problem. We have a website currently working on II6 and Windows Server 2003 (x86) without any problem. Now we want to migrate our server to a Virtual Machine with Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64) and IIS7. Out current app is built in Classic ASP and SQL Server (This one located on a 2nd Server but this is staying the way it is now). The website is configured as a WebSite, not a virtual directory. Using DefaultAppPool with 4 applications.     I know that variable scope is enclosed by a start of block { and an end of block }. If the same variable is declared within the block, then the compile error Variable already defined occurs. But take a look at following example. public class Test{ int x=0;// Class scope variable public void m(){ int x=9; //redeclaration of x is valid within the scope of same x. if(true){ int x=7; // but this redeclaration generates a compile time error. } } Here, x can be redeclared in a method, although it's already declared in the class. But in the if block, x can't be redeclared. Why is it that redeclaration of a class scope variable doesn't generate an error, but a method scope variable redeclaration generates an error?

  • Java Classpath Problems in Ubuntu

    First off I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 I've edited the /etc/environment file to look like this: PATH="/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games" JAVA_HOME="/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.20" CLASSPATH="/home/travis/freetts/lib/freetts.jar:/home/travis/freetts/lib/jsapi.jar:." I then run "source /etc/environment" to make sure the changes are included. Then I try compiling my simple test program using this: javac Test.java It throws out a few errors, but when I compile like this: javac -cp /home/travis/freetts/lib/freetts.jar:/home/travis/freetts/lib/jsapi.jar:. Test.java It works just fine, this leads me to believe that for some reason javac isn't seeing the CLASSPATH environment variable? I can echo it and everything in the terminal: echo $CLASSPATH gives me what I put in. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

    hi i tried 2 things what should be the same however it my testing says different does anyone know why the only thing i do is put it in a variable... if ($_SESSION[$something] === null) echo("this is null"); $_SESSION[$something] does not exists so it indeed says: "this is null". now look at this $theSession = $_SESSION[$something]; if (theSession === null) echo("this is null"); now it does not say "this is null" while it should be exactly the same right?

    I am trying to test the Cybersource 3d party implementation.     I'm running a very simple query that I think should work. The only thing that I haven't done before is put a php variable in the WHERE clause of the query. The variable $X is a numerical value, say 100. When I run this query, I just get a value of 0 returned. Am I doing something obviously stupid? SELECT generator_64k.n FROM generator_64k WHERE generator_64k.n<= '$X' I've looked around the web and also tried this: SELECT generator_64k.n FROM generator_64k WHERE generator_64k.n<= '" . $X .     On a MVC 2 website what I want to do is get a list of products / CategoryId. From that list, create a list of distinct CategoryId's. Then randomly pick a categoryId from the second list and use it to get all the products for that categoryId. I then want to store that CategoryId so that I don't display those products on the next run. I don't need any code examples to start. What I'm wondering is that I think I would put this code in a class in my model (Dll) and store the list of displayed CategoryId's in session. Is this a good solution or should I go another way?   • Environment variable in xcconfig won't expand in Settings.bundle/Root.plist

    I have defined my own environment variable in a .xcconfig file and based my configurations on that as described at http://www.silverchairsolutions.com/blog/2008/03/automating-cocoa-deployments-with-sparkle-and-xcode. My environment variable is indeed expanded in Info.plist but not in my Settings.bundle/Root.plist. Why won't it expand there?
