  How do I use a random number generator that gives bits (0 or 1) to simulate a fair 26-sided die? I want to use a bitstream to pick letters of the English alphabet such that the odds of any one letter coming up is the same as the odds of any other letter (I know real words aren't like that and have specific frequency distributions for each letter but it doesn't matter here). What's the best way to use binary 0/1 decisions to pick letters fairly from the set A-Z? I can think of a few ways to map bits onto letters but it's not obvious to me that they won't be biased. Is there a known good way?

• need suggestions about content filtering project

  i'm thinking of designing and implementing a content filtering software as my graduation project. i want it to be a user contributed software. i mean, users can also add/categorize websites. it should be also a web project and extensions for browsers like chrome, firefox, ie.. my question is which programming language do you suggest for this project? i know that firefox extensions are javascript based maybe you can say use .net framework 3.5 because it's better in communication with extensions. sorry for my bad english.. btw any other suggessions about project will be good.. thx a lot.

  Mhh, kinda hard to explain with my poor english ;) So, lets say I have an image, doesnt matter what kind of (gif, jpg, png) with 200x200 pixel size (total area 40000 pixels) This image have a background, that can be trasparent, or every color (but i know the background-color in advance). Lets say that in the middle of this image, there is a picture (for keep the example simple lets suppose is a square drawn), of 100x100 pixels (total area 10000 pixels). I need to know the area percentage that the small square fill inside the image. So, in i know the full image size and the background-color, there is a way in php/python to scan the image and retrieve that (in short, counting the pixel that are different from the given background)? In the above example, the result should be 25%

• Multilingual in Drupal: Can't have a node and it's translations as frontpage. How to?

  hi, i built a page in Persian. set it's path to front set drupal frontpage to /front everything is O.K. in mysite.com/fa i translate the page to en problem arises. now the path of Persian page changes to default node/33. now in language's frontpage drupal says Can't find the page. i tried to set path front to the translated english page. but it did not helped. i alse tried to assign path fa/front to my Persian page. nothing helped. translating brakes path in other nodes. how can i have these pages /front and /fa/front translated of each other as the same time?

• mysql: select ... where id = any value. is it possible?

  look at this table please table |id| |name| |order| i must get the rows, where name = something and order = somevalue so i write select `id` from `table` where `name` = 'something' and `order` = 'somevalue' but depend on php logic, sometimes i need to get all rows, where name = somethimg, independently of order value. i don't want to change the query structure, because in practise there are many number of fields, and possible count of queries will became very big. so i want to save the structure of query, and when i need to select just by name, i want to write something like this select `id` from `table` where `name` = 'something' and `order` = any value is it possible? maybe the question is incomprehensible, at least i tried;) sorry for bad english thanks

• Problems with noobs putting my GA code into their sites

  I don't mean for the title to be derogatory, but this is a rather frustrating problem, and I'm looking for a good workaround, given a language barrier involved. I have a site set up for a plugin I wrote, and, rather than use the site's resources to write their own code, I've had people simply rip the code from the samples on the site. Normally, this wouldn't be any issue at all, but they are also taking my Google Analytics instantiation, so my Analytics data is getting very skewed by incorporating visitation data from their websites. I've been able to contact the English-speaking site owners with little issue. The problem lies in the Japanese language sites that are yanking the code. I have no idea how to ask them to take down the analytics portion. Long-term, I'm providing a package that streamlines the learning-to-use process, but in the meantime, what can I do about this language barrier? Is there a way around this problem that I haven't thought of?

Can you help me change the function to accept html? I want to make centre bigger and bigger and bigger every time imageView collide with center, but it become bigger just one time . Sorry for my english I'm french :/ How can I solve this please ?

  When I run this test code on my development machine it works as expected. I checked Control panel date and time setting and it is correctly set to London. Web server is IIS7 but I don't think that would affect anything? IN region and Language, location is set to United Kingdom and in Administrative (change system locale ) it is also correct as English (United Kingdom)

• Doing a join across two databases with different collations on SQL Server and getting an error.

  I know, I know with what I wrote in the question I shouldn't be surprised. But my situation is slowly working on an inherited POS system and my predecessor apparently wasn't aware of JOINs so when I looked into one of the internal pages that loads for 60 seconds I see that it's a fairly quick, rewrite these 8 queries as one query with JOINs situation. Problem is that besides not knowing about JOINs he also seems to have had a fetish for multiple databases and surprise, surprise they use different collations. Fact of the matter is we use all "normal" latin characters that English speaking people would consider the entire alphabet and this whole thing will be out of use in a few months so a bandaid is all I need. Long story short is I need some kind of method to cast to a single collation so I can compare two fields from two databases. Exact error is: Cannot resolve the collation conflict between "SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_CI_AI" and "SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS" in the equal to operation.

• russian characters not accepted in php / phpmyadmin ?

  I have a website in 3 languages: english, dutch and russian. There's a little CMS where the user can update the text on the website. everything works good, except for the russian text.. If I enter any russian text in the form in the CMS, I get "????" in the phpmyadmin database and on the website. I am completely new to charsets, it's the first time I am building a website in a language that is not supported like in this case.. Could someone please tell me what's the problem here? and what I have to do to make this work in russian language?

• Facebook doesn't work on my website

  So, I use to have the facebook like button and box working normaly but now, I have created a new blogue and a new facebook app and the facebook just doens't work in it. Problem : in like box or the normal like button it ask for me to confirm the like but after confirmation, nothing happend. Can anybody please explain me how to make it work on my website ? I tried to follow instruction about open graphs and alots of things that I did not use last time on a website, and nothing worked for me . • System context menu Icon not transparent like WinRAR

  I added a icon at the system context menu(the popped up menu when we right mouse click on any file/foler). But the icon is not transparent(in xp its not notice able, but in vista/win7 it is clearly visible) there is a white background beneath the icon. But WinRAR or TortoiseSVN icons don't have any white background, they are transparent. I tried the following C++ code: #define BITMAP_MAIN 201 //in resource.h BITMAP_MAIN BITMAP "main.bmp" // in .rc file // showing icon in menu... But i couldnt find a way to sort them, based on the language in which its localized. At present i have sorted it out based on english only.   I'm developing a Windows Mobile application, and I faced a problem with CCommandBar that combines toolbar and menubar. Well, I mean the following: m_wndCommandBar.InsertMenuBar(IDR_MAINFRAME); m_wndCommandBar.LoadToolBar(IDR_MAINFRAME); I have only one root menu option in my command bar and some buttons in toolbar. It works perfectly on Windows Mobile till version 6.5.3, but on WM 6.5.3 all toolbar buttons have the same dimensions as the menu item: screen. Is it possible to force WM 6.5.3 to draw command bar the same way as WM 5.0 did? Of cource I can use only toolbar and throw away my menubar, but I want to save the old UI. P.S. I'm sorry for my English mistakes. I was always failing at school :-(

I do not know how to switch the language to english, but here is a translation: Translation: Message 5075, Layer 16, Status 1, Row 1 The 'column' object 'CustomPollerAssignment.PollerID' depends on 'Database sorting. The database sorting cannot be changed if a schema bound object depends on it. Remove the dependency of the database sortieren and retry. I got a ton more of the errors like that.

• VIM comma is missing in insert mode

  Hi folks, I'm a VIM beginner, and I have a weird problem. I started using vim in a terminal emulator, but today I moved to gVim. Then I realized that I cannot write a comma in Insert mode! I tried :map ,, :imap , both said no mapping found. THen I tried :nomap , and :inomap , both without any luck. As writing the commands, I am able to write the comma, but not in insert mode. What can be the problem? Some details: I'm running a freshly installed ubuntu 9.04 system, with an english keyboard, but using a hungarian layout. I am able to write a comma in vim when writing into the "command line" of vim, after pressing : in command mode.
