• Sending email with Windows 8 Mail (Modern UI) being blocked by AVG Firewall

  I've setup my Outlook.com email address in Windows 8 Mail (Modern UI) but is unable to send and receive emails when my AVG Internet Security 2012 Business Edition's Firewall is enable. When I disable the firewall, the emails are coming through and are being send. I know that I can most probably open the ports for IMAP on the firewall, but instead I would like to permit the application. Where/how do I find the application path for Windows 8 Mail (Modern UI) to allow all network traffic? (AVG did not show its normal Allow/Disallow notification for 1st time communications) Any advice would be appreciated.

• Apache HTTP Not Working When SSL Enabled

  I've got a very bizarre problem in that after enabling SSL support in Apache I'm only able to access my site via SSL and not through http as well. I can confirm that Apache is definitely listening on both ports 80 and 443 (accdording to netstat). Additionally the Apache access logs are showing the requests - it's just that going in through http results in a timeout and I'm never actually able to reach the content. Like I said going through https works. Here is my httpd.conf: http://pastebin.com/kG2dPjJ2 and here is my httpd-ssl.conf: http://pastebin.com/thqvjgGJ Can anyone spot any issues with those configurations? or Have any suggestion at all? I've searched and searched but there appear to be very few people who have experienced the same. Also worth mentioning that I did a comparision between those configurations and those of a working set up and I couldn't spot anything.

My current config to connect to another servers is using different port to connect. e.g ssh -D 1080 -p 22 [email protected] ssh -D 1081 -p 22 [email protected] Now what I would like to have to share the same port from the same box. ssh -D 1080 -p 22 [email protected] ssh -D 1080 -p 22 [email protected] But when I share it, I will get below error: bind: Address already in use channel_setup_fwd_listener: cannot listen to port: 1080 Could not request local forwarding. How could I configure the same port? help. thank you. I want to share the same port because this is needed when configuring firewall in Citrix Firewall on other machine, not needed to many many ports and keep changing when changing connection. thank you.

• Can't connect Tomcat via JMX

  I couldn't connect to one Tomcat server via JMX in a Linux virtual machine. There was no firewall running. All seemed ok. By searching on the web I found out that I have to use the -Djava.rmi.server.hostname property to fix it. It worked, but I don't understand why. My machine has five Tomcat servers running, all of them have JMX enabled in consecutive ports (8008, 8018, 8028...), all of them have the same configuration and only one of them had this issue connecting JMX. No firewall, no -Djava.rmi.server.hostname property in any Tomcat. I understand the problem, but I don't understand why four of my Tomcat servers worked and one of them not. Why is this?

  Dropbox is perfect, but as a company, no one can host anything worthwhile on servers that we don't control. So I've been tasked with coming up with a Dropbox alternative, something in house. GlusterFS is nice, but no offline access. SparkleShare uses Git which isn't great for large files. It also doesn't have windows ports. Any other options? If I were to roll out my own from scratch, what do you think the based way to go about doing this would be?

• Setting up VPS hosting

  I'm trying to set up my own vps hosting. It wont be a paid service, just an experiment for me and some nerdy friends. What I'd like to be able to do is this: Run multiple virtual servers on 1 external IP. These servers can run anything from Minecraft servers to simple http servers. They will also need to be accessible thru SSH. What I don't get is how I can address these servers using domain names. I've done some research and found out that I could use Vhosts with Apache. However this only applies to http servers. It was also suggested I'd use a reverse proxy(squid) but this also only applies to http requests. I could just use different ports for different servers, but thats not ideal and not what I want. Can someone suggest a setup? Maybe some tutorials or anything.

• Redirect with iptables if destination port is not listened

  I've a server listening on port 10000. But this server is running only in a special case (then some third service is available). Otherwise the port is not listened. Is it possible to redirect the client to another port if 10000 is not listening? I see two solutions: 1) insert/remove iptables rules on server start/stop, but since the server may be killed, it may not insert the correct iptable redirect rule before dieing. 2) make a permanent userspace rule that checks if the port is listening and redirects the packet if not listened. How to do 2) ? Do someone have recipes for ipq? May be someone can suggest me a better way? It is something like fallback redirect: I'll have thousand of clients with different ports (10000-11000) and if their instance of server is not running, whey should be redirected to some page explaining why they don't have and instance connected.

  Mouse's bottom LED goes off after 3 seconds after connection and cursor movements and wheel stops. Pressing any button, reconnecting or resetting USB device resumes it for another 3 seconds (when resumed by pressing button, this event does no go to X). This happens when using any of USB ports. This mouse works well with other computer with Linux. It was working well before. Why can it happen? How to fix it? Update: It happens only if laptop is on battery. Answer: this is caused by powersaving done by laptop-mode-tools. To temporary turn off powersaving one can use for i in /sys/bus/usb/devices/*/power/control; do echo on > $i; done

  My system is connected with a local LAN connection with 30 PC's. I'm not able to access the shared drive in the network, but I'm able to ping the IP address in which the drive is present. I have checked to start all the services, which are to be started and i have check the TCP/UDP ports also, but even after that I'm not able to access the drive, the same error message is being displayed again and again. Please help me to rectify the problem. I'm trying to solve the problem for the last 1 week. • Unable to connect to vrde virtualbox VM remotely

  So I've remotely created my first headless using ssh. Now I'm attempting to connect to this VM using RDP so I can install Ubuntu Server, but I cannot get connected at all. When starting the VM everything appears fine: $ vboxheadless -s WebTesting Oracle VM VirtualBox Headless Interface 4.0.16 (C) 2008-2012 Oracle Corporation All rights reserved. VRDE server is listening on port 4455. And showvminfo shows: VRDE: enabled (Address 0.0.0.0, Ports 4455, MultiConn: off, ReuseSingleConn: off, Authentication type: null) However I'm still prompted with the "enter your credentials" screen every time I attempt to connect. From reading the documentation null shouldn't prompt me with this screen at all... Any help with this is greatly appreciated. P.S. I am using ssh tunneling in putty to tunnel in to my network.

• JBoss basic access

  I have JBoss 5 deployed on Solaris 10 - the servers connection has unrestricted high ports (1023) open to the internet. I can access the box via ssh & FTP from a second server on the same subnet and anywhere over the internet. JBoss is running over port 8080 and is accessible via http://locahost:8080 on the box itself. I cannot access it via http://ip.add.goes.here:8080 from either the other server on the same subnet or via the internet. Is there any service or configuration within JBoss or elsewhere on Solaris 10 that needs to be changed from default to allow http traffic to be served? Thanks, Kevin

• I don't have a free PCI / PCI-e slot, can it be worked around?

  I need to add a PCI(e) card to a nettop PC that is so small that the card won't fit there (and there is no external alternative like we're used to with external TV tuners). The only ports available are USB and eSATA, is it possible to somehow "dock" the PCI card into some device that would then connect to the PC via USB or eSATA? Or am I out of luck? (I don't mind the solution being visually ugly, I wouldn't even mind opening up the case and soldering some wires in, anything that would work would be great.)

  I need to know how to set up a local webDav server on my PC so that goodreader on ipad can automatically sync with it over the local wifi network? I am really a rookie when it comes to setting up a web server and have tried various guides on the internet. I tried setting up a webdav server using IIS and forwarded the required ports and enabled webdav publishing but goodreader can find it in the local wifi network automatically nor is it able to connect even after manually entering the credendtials. • How to configure linux routing/filtering to send packets out one interface, over a bridge and into another interface on the same box

  I'm trying to test a ethernet bridging device. I have multiple ethernet ports on a linux box. I would like to send packets out one interface, say eth0 with IP 192.168.1.1, to another interface, say eth1 with IP 192.168.1.2, on the same subnet. I realize that normally you don't configure two interfaces on the same subnet, and if you do the kernel routes directly to each interface, rather than over the wire. How can I override this behavior, so that traffic to 192.168.1.2 goes out the 192.168.1.1 interface, and visa-versa? Thanks in advance!

  Sometimes when I turn on my homemade desktop computer (running 64-bit Windows 7), the left mouse click and enter key doesn't work. They work well in BIOS, as well as on the Windows 7 BCD and login screen. Usually, restarting the computer solves the problem. Why does this keep happening? I've tried: Using other USB ports Refreshing, repairing and reinstalling drivers Changing mouse settings Refreshing mouse profiles My keyboard is a Logitech G510, and my mouse is a Razer Lanchesis 5600. Both work without problems in Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows 8.1 Preview, and I've been using both on my 64-bit Windows 7 homemade desktop without problems for about a year and a half. • USB 3.0 Device not detected in Windows 8

  About my setup: Windows 8 64-bit. X79-UD3 Motherboard. Latest Windows 8 USB 3.0 Drivers from motherboard manufacturer website. All right so device manager detects my USB 3.0 ports, so all is well there. However when I plug in my external USB 3.0 hard drive, windows doesn't even make a beep; the hard drive is not picked up by device manager at all. The SAME thing happens with Ubuntu 12.10 BUT adding PCI=nomsi (as a workaround) to the Grub command line of the Ubuntu boot option makes Ubuntu 12.10 detect my external hard drive. I also have a few other doubts, if you guys would be kind enough to answer them that include: Should XHCI hand-off in the UEFI bios be enabled or disabled for Windows 8? The difference between XHCI hand-off and EHCI hand-off and what are it's effects on USB 3.0 functionality? And last but not least how can I get Windows 8 to recognize my external hard drive when Ubuntu 12.10 (after the Grub workaround) works fine?

• Windows 7 treating my third monitor as an extension to my second rather than detecting it as a stand alone

  I am trying to attach a third monitor to my PC, however I am coming across a rather strange issue. Windows screen resolution is still only showing that I have two monitors connected, but the second has been extended over both the second and third monitors. Basically, it shows as the main display being a normal size, and the secondary as being twice as long as normal. I have my main connected via a the display port, and the second and third are using two of the three mini HDMI ports my video card provides. How do I get windows to accept my third monitor the same as it does my second?

  I have haproxy listening on several ports and pointed at several backend servers. Ideally, I would like it so that repeated communications to the same port get pointed at the same backend. "balance source" isn't workable because often requests come from the same source. Is this doable? I'm also open to non-haproxy solutions. The protocol being used isn't important but is definitely not http. Just assume its ssh and you shouldn't go wrong.

  I have a standard router (dlink) and a secondary linksys running wrt. Currently i have it set up according to this guide. (using the Instruction for dd-wrt v24 sp1 settings) It works great however it seems as though i can only connect via the actually ports in the router meaning it has to be hard wired. Is it possible to set it up so that I can connect to the secondary router and still use it as a bridge? Seems like it doesn't work as a wireless AP anymore when its running in bridged mode.

  Morning/evening gents. I purchased a radical domain name today to set up a name for my services and to set up SSL. I configured the SSL fine and all but when I went to my website I couldn't connect. I can connect to the site with any other device in my house and my friend can connect to it as well from outside of the LAN. I am hosting the services with my computer and I can't access the service. Whenever I ping it using the command prompt I get a result of "General Failure.". It saddens me that they couldn't make a better message as it kind of brings me down.   I'm trying to set up MSSQL 2012 for a school project and I need to be able to connect to it remotely as my teammates will also be working on it. I did a clean install of SQL Server 2012 Express. Knowing I can't connect remotely straight off, I tweaked the settings that needed tweaking according to the internet. What I did 1.Made sure remote connections were allowed 2.Enabled TCP/IP 3.Removed 0s from Dynamic ports and set 1433 in TCP Port 4.Enabled Named Pipes 5.Created Outbound and Inbound traffic rules in the firewall for TCP port 1433 and UDP port 1434 6.Port forwarded 1433 to my "server" and 1434 too 7.made sure I was pingable 8.SQL Server authentication is enabled 9.I have restarted my computer so that changes to the config are saved So whenever I try to connect using management studio on another computer than the server using myusername.dyndns.org\SQLEXPRESS I get error 26 I have been searching for different solutions for 3 hours with no luck.

  I am going to be installing mod_security on my AWS EC2 Linux instance tonight and need a little help/reassurance. The only thing I am truly worried about right now is making sure my (admin) access to the instance and webserver is maintained w/o compromising security. I use ssh (port 22) and http (80) to access this and I've read horror stories from other EC2 users claiming they were locked out of their sites once they put up a firewall. • Port forwarding stopped working in my Linksys WRT54G2 Linksys router.

  How to do it again? I had simply forwarded needed ports (e.g. for counter strike, ftp, http etc)) but now with same system, same OS and same router and settings, it's not working. Tried setting router to "factory defaults" and do everything again. However other jobs are being done like it is connecting to my DSL ISP and I can access Internet easily. Still no success. PS. I tried on both Windows and Ubuntu. On Windows I use it for Counter Strike and others (e.g. host my local FTP server) on Ubuntu.
