• Setting the Classpath and Accessing code from book: Programming Clojure

- by user130153
(I posted this same question on the Clojure list but haven't got an answer yet. Is anyone here ready to help?) I am going through Programming Clojure and I recently downloaded the code from the books official website. For other utils I can do, for example, (require 'clojure.contrib.str-utils) and it works. But how do I load code from the book? (require 'examples.introduction) throws the following exception: java.io.FileNotFoundException: Could not locate examples/ introduction__init.class or examples/introduction.clj on classpath: (NO_SOURCE_FILE:0) [Thrown class clojure.lang.Compiler$CompilerException] Here is the full backtrace: Backtrace: 0: clojure.lang.Compiler.eval(Compiler.java:4543) 1: clojure.core$eval__3990.invoke(core.clj:1728) 2: swank.commands.basic$eval_region__686.invoke(basic.clj:36) 3: swank.commands.basic$listener_eval__695.invoke(basic.clj:50) 4: clojure.lang.Var.invoke(Var.java:346) 5: user$eval__1200.invoke(NO_SOURCE_FILE) 6: clojure.lang.Compiler.eval(Compiler.java:4532) 7: clojure.core$eval__3990.invoke(core.clj:1728) 8: swank.core$eval_in_emacs_package__307.invoke(core.clj:55) 9: swank.core$eval_for_emacs__384.invoke(core.clj:123) 10: clojure.lang.Var.invoke(Var.java:354) 11: clojure.lang.AFn.applyToHelper(AFn.java:179) 12: clojure.lang.Var.applyTo(Var.java:463) 13: clojure.core$apply__3243.doInvoke(core.clj:390) 14: clojure.lang.RestFn.invoke(RestFn.java:428) 15: swank.core$eval_from_control__310.invoke(core.clj:62) 16: swank.core$eval_loop__313.invoke(core.clj:67) 17: swank.core$spawn_repl_thread__445$fn__476$fn__478.invoke(core.clj: 173) 18: clojure.lang.AFn.applyToHelper(AFn.java:171) 19: clojure.lang.AFn.applyTo(AFn.java:164) 20: clojure.core$apply__3243.doInvoke(core.clj:390) 21: clojure.lang.RestFn.invoke(RestFn.java:428) 22: swank.core$spawn_repl_thread__445$fn__476.doInvoke(core.clj:170) 23: clojure.lang.RestFn.invoke(RestFn.java:402) 24: clojure.lang.AFn.run(AFn.java:37) 25: java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source) I am trying both Clojure Box and Enclojure in NetBeans on Windows XP. • Writing tests for Rails plugins

- by Adam
I'm working on a plugin for Rails that would add limited in-memory caching to ActiveRecord's finders. The functionality itself is mature enough, but I can't for the life of me get unit tests to work with the plugin. I now have under vendor/plugins/my_plugin/test/my_plugin_test.rb a standard subclass of ActiveSupport::TestCase with a couple of basic tests. I try running 'rake test' from the plugin directory, and I have confirmed that this task loads the ruby file with the test case, but it doesn't actually run any of the tests. I followed the Rails plugin guide (http://guides.rubyonrails.org/plugins.html) where applicable, but it seems to be horribly outdated (it suggests things that Rails now do automatically, etc.) The only output I get is this: Kakadu:ingenious_record adam$ rake test (in /Users/adam/Sites/1_PRK/vendor/plugins/ingenious_record) /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/bin/ruby -Ilib:lib:test "/System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/rake-0.8.3/lib/rake/rake_test_loader.rb" "test/ingenious_record_test.rb" The simplest test case looks like this: require 'test_helper' require 'active_record' class IngeniousRecordTest < ActiveSupport::TestCase test "example" do assert false end end This should definitely produce at least some output, and the only test in that file should produce a failed assertion. Any ideas what I could do to get Rails to run my tests?

• Async Load JavaScript Files with Callback

- by Gcoop
Hi All, I am trying to write an ultra simple solution to load a bunch of JS files asynchronously. I have the following script below so far. However the callback is sometimes called when the scripts aren't actually loaded which causes a variable not found error. If I refresh the page sometimes it just works because I guess the files are coming straight from the cache and thus are there quicker than the callback is called, it's very strange? var Loader = function () { } Loader.prototype = { require: function (scripts, callback) { this.loadCount = 0; this.totalRequired = scripts.length; this.callback = callback; for (var i = 0; i < scripts.length; i++) { this.writeScript(scripts[i]); } }, loaded: function (evt) { this.loadCount++; if (this.loadCount == this.totalRequired && typeof this.callback == 'function') this.callback.call(); }, writeScript: function (src) { var self = this; var s = document.createElement('script'); s.type = "text/javascript"; s.async = true; s.src = src; s.addEventListener('load', function (e) { self.loaded(e); }, false); var head = document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0]; head.appendChild(s); } } Is there anyway to test that a JS file is completely loaded, without putting something in the actual JS file it's self, because I would like to use the same pattern to load libraries out of my control (GMaps etc). Invoking code, just before the tag. var l = new Loader(); l.require([ "ext2.js", "ext1.js"], function() { var config = new MSW.Config(); Refraction.Application().run(MSW.ViewMapper, config); console.log('All Scripts Loaded'); }); Thanks for any help.

• apache: cgi links lead to a "you have chosen to open foo.cgi", although scriptalias is set

- by Xiong Chiamiov
Following this guide on CentOS 5.2, just getting nagios set up for the first time. The main page shows up just fine, but when I try to view any of the pages that should be generated by a cgi process, firefox prompts me to save the .cgi instead, so apache's obviously not understanding that it needs to run the cgi and get back some html from it. The odd thing is, though, that, as far as I can tell, apache should be running these files as cgi. nagios.conf: # SAMPLE CONFIG SNIPPETS FOR APACHE WEB SERVER # Last Modified: 11-26-2005 # # This file contains examples of entries that need # to be incorporated into your Apache web server # configuration file. Customize the paths, etc. as # needed to fit your system. ScriptAlias /nagios/cgi-bin/ "/usr/lib/nagios/cgi/" # SSLRequireSSL Options +ExecCGI AddHandler cgi-script .cgi AllowOverride None Order allow, deny Allow from all # Order deny, allow # Deny from all # Allow from 127.0.0.1 AuthName "Nagios Access" AuthType Basic AuthUserFile /etc/nagios/htpasswd.users Require valid-user Alias /nagios "/usr/share/nagios/" # SSLRequireSSL DirectoryIndex index.php Options None AllowOverride None Order allow, deny Allow from all # Order deny, allow # Deny from all # Allow from 127.0.0.1 AuthName "Nagios Access" AuthType Basic AuthUserFile /etc/nagios/htpasswd.users Require valid-use Either the ScriptAlias directive or ExecCGI option should be triggering this, but neither of them seems to have any effect. This config file is being parsed by apache, because if I move it out of conf.d, /nagios gives a 404. The .cgi files are indeed in the /nagios/cgi-bin/ directory, so I didn't specify the incorrect directory. Searching seemed to only provide people who had difficulty with permissions, which is not the issue here. This seems to me to be a pretty basic thing, but even with the excellent apache documentation, I'm at a bit of a loss (been using cherokee too much lately :) ).

• How to best handle exception to repeating calendar events

- by blcArmadillo
I'm working on a project that will require me to implement a calendar. I'm trying to come up with a system that is very flexible: can handle repeating events, exceptions to repeats, etc. I've looked at the schema for applications like iCal, Lotus Notes, and Mozilla to get an idea of how to go about implementing such a system. Currently I'm having trouble deciding what is the best way to handle exceptions to repeating events. I've used databases quite a bit but don't have a ton of experience with really optimizing everything so I'm not sure which method of the two I'm considering would be optimal in terms of overall performance and ability to query/search: Breaking the repeating event. So taking the changing the ending date on the current row for the repeating event, inserting a new row with the exception, and adding another row continuing the old sequence. Simply adding an exception. So adding a new row with some field that indicates it as an override. So here is why I can't decide. Method one will result in a lot more rows since each edit requires 2 extra rows as apposed to only one row by the second method. On the other hand I think the query to find an event would be much simper, and thus possibly faster(?) using the first method. The second method seems like it will require more calculating on the application server since once you get the data you'll have to remove the intersection of the two rows. I know databases are often the bottleneck for websites and while I'm sure a lot of you are thinking either is fine because your project will probably never get large enough for the difference in efficiency to really matter, I'd still like to implement the best solution. So what method would you guys pick, or would you do something completely different? Also, as a side note I'll be using MySQL and PHP. If there is another technology that you think would be better suited for this, especially in the database area, please mention it. Thanks for the advice.

• factorygirl rails, says "top required" in my spec - don't know how to fix

- by user924088
I get the following error message when I run my tests. It says that the problem is in my lecture_spec, and that the top is required. I don't know if this has something to do with requiring my spec_helper.rb file. 1) Lecture has a valid factory Failure/Error: FactoryGirl.create(:lecture).should be_valid NoMethodError: undefined method `after_build=' for #<Lecture:0x007fe7747bce70> # ./spec/models/lecture_spec.rb:21:in `block (2 levels) in <top (required)>' My factory looks like the following: require 'faker' FactoryGirl.define do factory :question do association :lecture name { Faker::Lorem.words(1) } description {Faker::Lorem.words(7)} factory :question_one do answer 1 end factory :question_two do answer 2 end factory :question_three do answer 3 end end end And this is my lecture_spec file require 'spec_helper' describe Lecture do it "has a valid factory" do FactoryGirl.create(:lecture).should be_valid end end and this is my lecture factory, where I defined the lecture factory. • How to set "Run this program as an administrator" programatically.

- by Patrick
I'm having a problem with good ol' bdeadmin.exe in Vista. First, let's get the predictable responses out of the way: "You should not require your application to be elevated." This one does. C'est la vie. "You need to embed a manifest file." It is already compiled, it is many years old, the company that created it has no intention of doing it again, and it is installed from a Merge Module (MSM file). "BDE is obsolete, you should be using dbExpress" One and a half million lines of code. 'Nuff said. "Drop a manifest file next to the EXE." Tried that, did nothing. As a test, that same manifest file was able to make several other EXE files require elevation, just not the one I wanted. Something in there is preventing the external manifest from being read. "Create a shortcut and set SLDF_RUNAS_USER." Can't do that, it's a Control Panel applet. The only thing that worked was setting "Run this program as an administrator" under the Compatibility tab of its Properties window. I shouldn't have to tell users to do this. Bad for business. I need to have the installer do this. The MSM file uses a static path. Any ideas?

• DataTables - Remove DataTables from HTML Table created in different JavaScript File

- by Matt Green
So I have a site I visit everyday for work. The DataTables implementation on this site is atrocious. The DataTable is applied to an HTML table that is generated when the page is rendered and then the DataTable is initialized on it. I figured this is great because I can create a little TamperMonkey script to remove the horrible DataTable and create one that functions how I need it to. The DataTable is created via inline Javascript at the end of the document body. I tried the following per the DOCs for the destory() method. // ==UserScript== // @name // @version 0.1 // @description Makes the Invoice Table more user friendly // @include URL // @require http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.2/jquery.min.js // @require http://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/datatables/1.10.1/js/jquery.dataTables.min.js // @copyright 2014+, Me // ==/UserScript== $(function() { var t = $('#customer_invoices').DataTable(); t.destroy(); }); It does not "remove those enhancements and return the table to its original un-enhanced state, with the data shown in the table" as stated in the docs. It does not appear to do anything. I think it is either because the table has not been Datatable initialized yet, or that I am not able to access the original DataTable initialization in a different scope. Any help is greatly appreciated as this has me banging my head on the desk.

• How should I define a composite foreign key for domain constraints in the presence of surrogate keys

- by Samuel Danielson
I am writing a new app with Rails so I have an id column on every table. What is the best practice for enforcing domain constraints using foreign keys? I'll outline my thoughts and frustration. Here's what I would imagine as "The Rails Way". It's what I started with. Companies: id: integer, serial company_code: char, unique, not null Invoices: id: integer, serial company_id: integer, not null Products: id: integer, serial sku: char, unique, not null company_id: integer, not null LineItems: id: integer, serial invoice_id: integer, not null, references Invoices (id) product_id: integer, not null, references Products (id) The problem with this is that a product from one company might appear on an invoice for a different company. I added a (company_id: integer, not null) to LineItems, sort of like I'd do if only using natural keys and serials, then added a composite foreign key. LineItems (product_id, company_id) references Products (id, company_id) LineItems (invoice_id, company_id) references Invoices (id, company_id) This properly constrains LineItems to a single company but it seems over-engineered and wrong. company_id in LineItems is extraneous because the surrogate foreign keys are already unique in the foreign table. Postgres requires that I add a unique index for the referenced attributes so I am creating a unique index on (id, company_id) in Products and Invoices, even though id is simply unique. The following table with natural keys and a serial invoice number would not have these issues. LineItems: company_code: char, not null sku: char, not null invoice_id: integer, not null I can ignore the surrogate keys in the LineItems table but this also seems wrong. Why make the database join on char when it has an integer already there to use? Also, doing it exactly like the above would require me to add company_code, a natural foreign key, to Products and Invoices. The compromise... LineItems: company_id: integer, not null sku: integer, not null invoice_id: integer, not null does not require natural foreign keys in other tables but it is still joining on char when there is a integer available. Is there a clean way to enforce domain constraints with foreign keys like God intended, but in the presence of surrogates, without turning the schema and indexes into a complicated mess?

• What is the most platform- and Python-version-independent way to make a fast loop for use in Python?

- by Statto
I'm writing a scientific application in Python with a very processor-intensive loop at its core. I would like to optimise this as far as possible, at minimum inconvenience to end users, who will probably use it as an uncompiled collection of Python scripts, and will be using Windows, Mac, and (mainly Ubuntu) Linux. It is currently written in Python with a dash of NumPy, and I've included the code below. Is there a solution which would be reasonably fast which would not require compilation? This would seem to be the easiest way to maintain platform-independence. If using something like Pyrex, which does require compilation, is there an easy way to bundle many modules and have Python choose between them depending on detected OS and Python version? Is there an easy way to build the collection of modules without needing access to every system with every version of Python? Does one method lend itself particularly to multi-processor optimisation? (If you're interested, the loop is to calculate the magnetic field at a given point inside a crystal by adding together the contributions of a large number of nearby magnetic ions, treated as tiny bar magnets. Basically, a massive sum of these.) # calculate_dipole # ------------------------- # calculate_dipole works out the dipole field at a given point within the crystal unit cell # --- # INPUT # mu = position at which to calculate the dipole field # r_i = array of atomic positions # mom_i = corresponding array of magnetic moments # --- # OUTPUT # B = the B-field at this point def calculate_dipole(mu, r_i, mom_i): relative = mu - r_i r_unit = unit_vectors(relative) #4pi / mu0 (at the front of the dipole eqn) A = 1e-7 #initalise dipole field B = zeros(3,float) for i in range(len(relative)): #work out the dipole field and add it to the estimate so far B += A*(3*dot(mom_i[i],r_unit[i])*r_unit[i] - mom_i[i]) / sqrt(dot(relative[i],relative[i]))**3 return B

I am trying to install an app on a shared server. If i understand properly because i am using a shared server, and that Dreamhost doesn't suppose rails 3.2.8 I must use FCGI, although i am not sure how to install and to make it run properly. From this tutorial http://wiki.dreamhost.com/Rails_3. To my understand here what I did, In dreamhost, activate PHP 5.x.x FastCGI and made sure Phusion Passenger is unchecked Create an app on my localmachine Because rails doesn't create a dispatch and access file i create the two following file in my /public folder dispatch.fcgi #!/home/username/.rvm/rubies/ruby-1.9.3-p327/bin/ruby ENV['RAILS_ENV'] ||= 'production' ENV['HOME'] ||= `echo ~`.strip ENV['GEM_HOME'] = File.expand_path('~/.rvm/gems/ruby 1.9.3-p327') ENV['GEM_PATH'] = File.expand_path('~/.rvm/gems/ruby 1.9.3-p327') + ":" + File.expand_path('~/.rvm/gems/ruby 1.9.3-p327@global') require 'fcgi' require File.join(File.dirname(__FILE__), '../config/environment') class Rack::PathInfoRewriter def initialize(app) @app = app end def call(env) env.delete('SCRIPT_NAME') parts = env['REQUEST_URI'].split('?') env['PATH_INFO'] = parts[0] env['QUERY_STRING'] = parts[1].to_s @app.call(env) end end Then created the file .htaccess <IfModule mod_fastcgi.c> AddHandler fastcgi-script .fcgi </IfModule> <IfModule mod_fcgid.c> AddHandler fcgid-script .fcgi </IfModule> Options +FollowSymLinks +ExecCGI RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^(.*)$ dispatch.fcgi/$1 [QSA,L] ErrorDocument 500 "Rails application failed to start properly" Uploaded to a folder and pointed to the public folder in dreamhost Made sure dispatch.fcgi has 777 for write ssh and run the following command in the public folder : ./dispatch.fcgi Crossing my finger but it doesn't work I get the following errors ./dispatch.fcgi: line 1: ENV[RAILS_ENV]: command not found ./dispatch.fcgi: line 1: =: command not found ./dispatch.fcgi: line 2: ENV[HOME]: command not found ./dispatch.fcgi: line 2: =: command not found ./dispatch.fcgi: line 3: syntax error near unexpected token (' ./dispatch.fcgi: line 3:ENV['GEM_HOME'] = File.expand_path('~/.rvm/gems/ruby 1.9.3-p327')' Doing wrong??? Oh and if i go on the server i get this Rails application failed to start properly

The problem is that i'm not able to save my model anymore: rails give me this error : ActiveRecord::DangerousAttributeError: changes is defined by ActiveRecord changes field is by default an activerecord method. With the console, the message is the next : ActiveRecord::DangerousAttributeError: changes is defined by ActiveRecord Here are my local gem files: abstract (1.0.0) actionmailer (3.0.0.beta3) actionpack (3.0.0.beta3) activemodel (3.0.0.beta3) activerecord (3.0.0.beta3) activeresource (3.0.0.beta3) activesupport (3.0.0.beta3) arel (0.3.3) builder (2.1.2) bundler (0.9.25, 0.9.24) crack (0.1.7) erubis (2.6.5) god (0.9.0) haml (3.0.1, 2.2.23) i18n (0.3.7) mail (2.2.0) memcache-client (1.8.3) memcached (0.17.7) mime-types (1.16) polyglot (0.3.1) rack (1.1.0) rack-mount (0.6.3) rack-test (0.5.3) rails (3.0.0.beta3) railties (3.0.0.beta3) rake (0.8.7) savon (0.7.8, 0.7.6) text-format (1.0.0) text-hyphen (1.0.0) thor (0.13.6, 0.13.4) treetop (1.4.5) tzinfo (0.3.20) And here my Gemfile source 'http://gemcutter.org' gem "rails", "3.0.0.beta3" gem "will_paginate", "3.0.pre" #gem 'nokogiri' #gem 'curb' #gem 'handsoap' gem 'savon' gem 'mysql' gem 'haml', '2.2.23' #gem 'haml', '3.0.1' gem 'hpricot' gem 'i18n', '> 0.3.5' gem 'i18n_routing' gem 'i18n_auto_scoping' gem 'handler301', :git => 'http://github.com/kwi/handler301.git' gem 'seo_meta_builder' gem 'vestal_versions' #gem 'paperclip', :git => 'git://github.com/thoughtbot/paperclip.git', :branch => 'rails3' ## Bundle edge rails: gem "rails", :git => "git://github.com/rails/rails.git" ## Bundle the gems you use: # gem "bj" # gem "hpricot", "0.6" # gem "sqlite3-ruby", :require => "sqlite3" # gem "aws-s3", :require => "aws/s3" ## Bundle gems used only in certain environments: # gem "rspec", :group => :test # group :test do # gem "webrat" # end If you have any suggestions to solve this issue, i'll be glad to hear them ! • Devise not allowing active resource to access the services

- by Saurabh Pandit
In my application there are two folders one for a rails application and another for a ruby application. In the ruby folder I have created a ruby file in which I have written code to access some model which is present in the rails application using active resource. Sample code is shown below : active_resource_example.rb require 'rubygems' require 'active_resource' class Website < ActiveResource::Base self.site = "http://localhost:3000/admin/" self.user = "user" self.password = "password" end websites = Website.find(:all) puts websites.inspect In my rails application I have used ActiveAdmin gem which uses devise for authentication. On rails Server I get the following result : Started GET "/admin/websites.json" for 192.168.1.37 at 2011-11-12 14:41:06 +0530 Processing by Admin::WebsitesController#index as JSON Completed in 43ms And on my terminal where I executed active_resource_example.rb, I got following error : user@user:~/Desktop$ ruby active_resource_example.rb /home/user/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.2-p180/gems/activeresource-3.1.1/lib/active_resource/connection.rb:132:in `handle_response': Failed. Response code = 401. Response message = Unauthorized . (ActiveResource::UnauthorizedAccess) from /home/user/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.2-p180/gems/activeresource-3.1.1/lib/active_resource/connection.rb:115:in `request' from /home/user/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.2-p180/gems/activeresource-3.1.1/lib/active_resource/connection.rb:80:in `block in get' from /home/user/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.2-p180/gems/activeresource-3.1.1/lib/active_resource/connection.rb:218:in `with_auth' from /home/user/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.2-p180/gems/activeresource-3.1.1/lib/active_resource/connection.rb:80:in `get' from /home/user/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.2-p180/gems/activeresource-3.1.1/lib/active_resource/base.rb:894:in `find_every' from /home/user/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.2-p180/gems/activeresource-3.1.1/lib/active_resource/base.rb:806:in `find' from active_resource_example.rb:12:in `
' user@user:~/Desktop$ I tried this with another application in which Devise authentication is not used with the same configuration I used in active_resource_example.rb, there I got the result. Desperately need some solution to this issue.

• Using regex to extract variables from a plain-text form letter?

- by Yaaqov
Hi - I'm looking for a good example of using Regular Expressions in PHP to "reverse engineer" a form letter (with a known format, of course) that has been pasted into a multiline textbox and sent to a script for processing. So, for example, let's assume this is the original plain-text input (taken from a USDA press release): WASHINGTON, April 5, 2010 - North American Bison Co-Op, a New Rockford, N.D., establishment is recalling approximately 25,000 pounds of whole beef heads containing tongues that may not have had the tonsils completely removed, which is not compliant with regulations that require the removal of tonsils from cattle of all ages, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. For clarity, the fields that are variables are highlighted below: [pr_city=]WASHINGTON, [pr_date=]April 5, 2010 - [corp_name=]North American Bison Co-Op, a [corp_city=]New Rockford, [corp_state=]N.D., establishment is recalling approximately [amount=]25,000 pounds of [product=]whole beef heads containing tongues that may not have had the tonsils completely removed, which is not compliant with regulations that require [reason=]the removal of tonsils from cattle of all ages, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. How could I efficiently extract the contents of the pr_city pr_date corp_name corp_city corp_state amount product reason fields from my example? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

• jquery slideToggle() and unknown height?

- by GaVrA
Hello! Im using jquery 1.3.2 and this is the code: If you see here i have bunch of small green + which when you click some text is revealed and background-position is changed for that link so then it shows the other part of image, red -. So the problem i am having is that i dont know the height for those hidden elements, because it depends on how much text there is, so when i click on + and show them, animation is 'jumping'. One workaround that i found is to put fixed height and overflow:hidden to those hidden elements. You can see how much smoother animation is running in top left block(the one with 'Vesti iz sveta crtanog filma' at the top). All other blocks dont have fixed height, and animation there is 'jumping'. Atm that fixed height in top left block is 30px, but ofc some elements require more height and some require less, so that is not a good solution... :) So how to stop this animation from 'jumping' when there is no fixed height?

• Webrick transparent proxy

- by zzeroo
Hi there, I've a absolute simple proxy running. require 'webrick' require 'webrick/httpproxy' s = WEBrick::HTTPProxyServer.new(:Port => 8080, :RequestCallback => Proc.new{|req, res| puts req.request_line, req.raw_header}) # Shutdown functionality trap("INT"){s.shutdown} # run the beast s.start This should in my mind not influence the communication in any way. But some sites doesn't work any more. Specially http://lastfm.de 's embedded flash players doesn't work. • Visual Studio 2005 - OleDbConnection throws "Invalid authorization specification" in Form Designer,

- by Jason Dagit
I have a form with an OleDbConnection object on it. This form fails to load in the Form Designer with the message: One or more errors encountered while loading the designer. The errors are listed below. Some errors can be fixed by rebuilding your project, while others may require code changes. Invalid authorization specification at ADODB.ConnectionClass.Open(String ConnectionString, String UserID, String Password, Int32 Options) ... (stack trace continues into user code) I've tracked this down to the OleDbConnection string. If I hardcode in the server IP, username/password/dbinstance into the constructor of the GUI form then the form will load in the designer. At run-time it is not an issue because we require the user to provide the login details. The question: Is it possible to use the OleDbConnection and the Form designer without supplying the database credentials in the source code of the form? For example, is there a property of the OleDbConnection or Form that I can set so that it doesn't need to access the database during Form design? My concern is that if we ever move the database server or change the login that the code will stop working in the designer.

• Take most significant 8 bytes of the MD5 hash of a string as a long (in Ruby)

- by Nate Murray
Hey Friends, I'm trying to implement a java "hash" function in ruby. Here's the java side: import java.nio.charset.Charset; import java.security.MessageDigest; /** * @return most significant 8 bytes of the MD5 hash of the string, as a long */ protected long hash(String value) { byte[] md5hash; md5hash = md5Digest.digest(value.getBytes(Charset.forName("UTF8"))); long hash = 0L; for (int i = 0; i < 8; i++) { hash = hash << 8 | md5hash[i] & 0x00000000000000FFL; } return hash; } So far, my best guess in ruby is: # WRONG - doesn't work properly. #!/usr/bin/env ruby -wKU require 'digest/md5' require 'pp' md5hash = Digest::MD5.hexdigest("0").unpack("U*") pp md5hash hash = 0 0.upto(7) do |i| hash = hash << 8 | md5hash[i] & 0x00000000000000FF end pp hash Problem is, this ruby code doesn't match the java output. For reference, the above java code given these strings returns the corresponding long: "00038c53790ecedfeb2f83102e9115a522475d73" => -2059313900129568948 "0" => -3473083983811222033 "001211e8befc8ac22dd265ecaa77f8c227d0007f" => 3234260774580957018 Thoughts: I'm having problems getting the UTF8 bytes from the ruby string In ruby I'm using hexdigest, I suspect I should be using just digest instead The java code is taking the md5 of the UTF8 bytes whereas my ruby code is taking the bytes of the md5 (as hex) Any suggestions on how to get the exact same output in ruby?
