• Send and Receive SMS from my Website [on hold]

  The way I plan to use it is: Have people send SMS to a number to vote. On the backend (assuming that the data comes back to my Web server), I will display the voting results on my Web site. After say 10 minutes, I would like to press a button on my Web site so ONE of the people who sent an SMS earlier receive an SMS saying that person is a winner. I'm an ASP .Net developer, so I just need an API to code against. One such company I saw that does this (but is limited to US) is: http://www.twilio.com/sms/ Do you know any international providers that are similar to Twilio SMS? I'm based in Sydney, Australia. • A bounce-rate attack to manipulate SEO ?

  This is a question to experienced people that might help us shed some light on the issue. We noticed a very strange behavior on our site, in Google Analytics. Some dude from Finland, namely, from Kouvola city is hitting one of our pages - only one page on our site, 'bout a hundred times per day, all with an average bounce rate of 90%+... This is causing our overall bounce rate to go up by 1 to 3% per day... which is very disturbing.. since we're trying to do our best in order to keep it as low as possible. And obviously having it jumped from ~24% to 27%, just because of that crazy dude is not making us happy at all... We tried implementing a geo-targeted script in order to catch this particular visitor and deliver him a juicy message, and it seemed like it helped in the beginning, it has stopped for a day or two, but now he's back... The geo-targeted script was also logging all IP addresses for page requests originating from Finland in order to find out more details and (in order to block them on the server level, later).. but thing is, it was all mainly cable or DSL connections with various, but not constantly repeating IPs... we are all wondering what is he up to really ? I think that this page should be kept updated with ideas on how to combat this and perhaps someone could also shed light on what it might be ? What is the reason for doing this "bounce-rate attack", as I call it? • Easy user management on html site?

  I hope I'm not asking a question for which the answer is obvious...If I am, apologies. Within my html site (i.e. not Wordpress, Joomla, etc.) I want to be able to have a level of user management. That means that some pages I want to be only accessible to certain people with the correct username and password. What's the best way to do this? Are there any available scripts out there?   Ive heard allot recently about over optimisation regarding backlink anchor text ofsite. What ive heard from seomoz was sites most effected by the penguin update had over 60% of their backlinks anchor text the same, so google saw this is unnatural and penalized them. Which kind of makes sense as its not normal to have such high density on one word / phrase. If i where building links for a gastro pub in london. (this is purely hypothetical). The sort of keywords i would go after are "gastro pub in london" and "london gastro pub" If i where to mix up the anchor text by having: gastro pub gastro pub in london london gastro pub would this be seen as ok ? or would these all be seen as broad match keywords and counted as one phrase, making me fall foul of the penguin update ?

• Looking for a FormBuilder that gives me all images and sourcecode to my form

  Wow, I started my search this morning and didn't think it would be so difficult to find. I'm just tired of spending hours putting together simple html forms in dreamweaver. I'm an enthusiast web developer mostly focused on php and mysql. I hate CSS and HTML and I'm looking for a simple program that will put a form together for me where I can then completely embed the form into my site. I'll do all of the programming to attach it to my database I just need the form and images. I've looked into jotform, wufoo, 123forms etc but it seems like they all want to keep my form on their servers in one way or another. It looked like jotform had a developers version but $450 bucks is a little steep for a part timer like me. Is there no simple software out there that will throw a nice stylized form together for me?

Just wondering what would be the best way to make use of it. A permanent redirect or a single page that hyperlinks to the brand website? Should I be concerned about anything negative associated to this keyword domain (poor backlinks and the fact that this website was down for about one month)?

• Does sitewide html refactoring affect Google traffic?

  Good morning, I have recently made a big structural change on my site and the very next day the number of Google impressions went from 75.000 to 3.000, with a proportional drop of traffic from searches. No URLs were changed, neither were the page titles or descriptions. Everything is exactly the same, but different looking, except that it does barely appear on Google anymore. Anybody has a clue to why?

• Transfer .com domain to GoDaddy - websites running on same domain - 3 weeks left until expiration, 2 days left web hosting

  Our company purchased this abc.com domain from a local registrar. The domain will expire in about 3 weeks. We have our main websites running on this abc.com domain and they cannot be down for too long. The web hosting service will end in 2 days. Our websites are already hosted and they are up and running on Amazon EC2. We would like to transfer the domain to GoDaddy now or as soon as possible. (since we have many other domains there and we belive GoDaddy will be better in long-term considering the prices and the features it offers) There are many questions on the decision to transfer the domain to GoDaddy: 1) Cost and time required to move out of our local registrar? This is currently unknown as I'm still trying to retrieve the agreement we have with them 2) How does the 3 week time left until expiration of the domain matters here? Should we wait until the domain expires and then purchase in through GoDaddy? How long would such process take as I suppose our websites will be down during that time? Any other drawbacks? 3) What can I do to ensure our websites will continue functioning regardless of the domain transfer process? It seems the actual registrar here is enom.com and the local registrar here just partners with it I suppose I should then park the abc.com domain with enom.com and make changes to DNS settings so that our websites can continue to be hosted on EC2 as normal. How long does it normally take the domain to be transferred to GoDaddy completely? Is it even possible at all to keep our websites are up and running during the whole domain transfer process? Apologies that I'm throwing many questions at the same time here. It's rather last minutes and I suddenly realised there are too many unknown risks.

  Hi. I've moved my Wordpress installation from one domain to another, and I want to use an .htaccess file on the original to redirect visitors to the new page on the new website. The old site is http://www.steve.doig.com.au/wordpress/. The new site is http://www.superlogical.net I tried using tried using the following .htaccess file in the /wordpress directory: RedirectMatch 301 http://www.steve.doig.com.au/wordpress(.*) http://www.superlogical.net/$1 However, all this does is redirect visitors to the URL: http://www.superlogical.net/wordpress/ I guess this is working properly, but I don't have Wordpress installed in a /wordpress folder on the new domain. How do I remove this from the URL redirected to? Thanks..

• POST attack on my website

  Hi, I have a site (humanisms.co.uk) which incorporates a voting system, ie. user clicks "Up" and it sends a parameter to a PHP script via AJAX, the PHP inserts vote into MYSQL db and the new "Up" vote is sent back to the page to update the vote count. This is working great but i've noticed that the number of votes for one of my questions shot up last night. I viewed my webhosts access logs and saw this line: 108.27.195.232 - - [03/Mar/2011:15:20:18 +0000] "POST /vote.php HTTP/1.1" 200 2 "http://www.humanisms.co.uk/" "Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_6_6; en-US) AppleWebKit/534.16 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/10.0.648.114 Safari/534.16" This is repeated well over 100 times and sometimes more than once a second. Now i know they probably arent sitting there clicking Vote but running some sort of PHP loop? I'm not worried about SQL injection but what can i do to prevent this same IP address from doing this or what can i do in general to avoid this scenario. I should also say that there's no login so anyone can click using the voting system. Thanks

  Is any one aware of any data or studies from an impartial source that show the impact of EV SSL certificates on customer behavior? I've been unable to find any such studies. If an EV SSL certificate increases sales on a web store front by even a few points, I can see the value. Aside from data targeted at EV SSL it may be possible to guess at customer behavior based on user interaction with regular SSL certificates. Are users even aware of SSL security? Does regular SSL have any proven effect on web store front sales? Note, that I'm not asking about the necessity of good encryption - I'm asking about a potential customer's perception of security & trust.

• Buying a parked domain if the contact email bounces

  I'm trying to buy a domain which is parked, but the contact email address listed on the page itself bounces. I looked up the WHOIS data and there are no email addresses or phone numbers listed. There are way too many hits on facebook / linkedin to try just searching for the name. What recourses do I have to try to get into contact with the owner? UPDATE: Hosted on the same IP are 206 identical "parked" pages, whose sole difference is the domain and the email address (always "info@[domain].it"): http://www.bing.com/search?q=ip%3A151.1.48.220 Whois info shows contact information for none (that I sampled) but all with different names o_O

• How to protect Google Ads from yontoo layers runtime?

  Since sometime I have observed that Google Ads on any website including my blog (http://blogs.digitss.com) gets replaced with something similar to uploaded image below. I am sure it's happening with many people and that could reduce google adsense income. After some research I found that it is because "yontoo layers runtime" from http://www.yontoo.com/ (tagline says: Platform that allows you to control the websites you visit everyday.) but actually they are taking over. I am not sure with which software they are making a way into users computer but that seems very bad in terms of freedom of Internet and advt/marketing industry. I don't remember I have ever said "yes" to install yontoo on my computer. This piece of software is successful to install itself on my laptop/desktop and workstation at office. I am going to disable it now but the question is how do I make my websites aware of Yontoo Runtime and stop them from replacing Google Ads? Basically they are not able to replace all adsense ads but so far they are successfully replaced 1st instance of adsense advt and I am sure in future they will hit more. There could be 2 approaches 1) Fool yontoo runtime by putting some misleading divs in html document to save actual ads, 2) Completely disable yontoo by working out some client side script (javascript) which can fail/crash yontoo runtime and so will fail it's purpose of replacing ads. You can visit my blog (http://blogs.digitss.com) and see on top-right corner, if you find that google ad replaced with something similar to image attached with question - it means your computer/browser is infected too. Looking forward to reply from webmasters, if someone has already wrote some code/plugin to make website (and google ads) safe from yontoo or similar runtime. FYI: it was able to push this runtime in all browsers installed on machine. So a dangerous threat. And yes, I am just using Google ads - not sure if yontoo runtime is doing trick against other ad networks or not? I am sure they must be doing it with some handful of ad networks.

I am trying to host my own web server for testing purposes.I have Internet service with sprint and i called them to obtain my public ip address. Now that i have my public ip address how to i assign it to my server? I also have a web domain name that i would like to point it at that web server. Do i give it the public ip address or do i give it the name of the server?

  I'm looking for a way to force SSL and WWW. I've been able to force both separately but together I keep running into redirection issues. The following code works when handling a url in this format: "http://domain.com" and properly redirects to "https://www.domain.com" but when the incoming url is "https://domain.com" it will not forward to "https://www.domain.com" -- Any suggestions? • DNS hijack - prevention tips

  Hi there, Over the weekend it looks like the DNS was hijacked on two of my domains. My set up is I have the sites registered on 1and1.co.uk, with dns nameservers pointing to Hostgator in the US where the sites are hosted. I also had cloudflare CDN running on the sites (via hostgator cpanel). My question is any ideas as to how this happened, and how I could either monitor it so I know if it occurs again, or strengthen the set up/service to minimise the risk. History: I received a ping from my site monitoring service that the sites were down. When I checked the sites were up so I assumed it was local to the monitoring service I received a ping last night the sites were up When I checked, one site was redirecting to download-manual.com (and checking that URL now, the home page is not the same as the one I saw, so they too may have been hijacked/hacked) The other site URL remained the same but had one of those standard site search pages which bounce you off to either phishing or paid for search sites I notified Hostgator who told me Cloudflare or 1and1 were the issue. I removed cloudflare, and contacted both them and hostgator, and am awaiting a response, but am not holding my breath. Is this common? I've never heard of this or come across this before. It's pretty scary that this can happen so easily. Appreciate any input. **Update: I've now spoken to support at 1and1, Hostgator, and Cloudflare, and each one claims it has nothing to do with them, and must be one of the others. Larry, curly, moe.

I have made changes and additions which havent been indexed yet. Should i wait for the run or please please can someone give me pointers on the carpet cleaning indexing.   I have a blog with over a thousand posts. I have posted some of those to a news aggregator site and included the same preview photo and description that I used for it on my own site and the link to the post on my site. Since the site is mainly videos and images, the description was usually a complete match of 4-6 lines of text. It now looks that I have been affected by panda and since I am not doing any bad stuff, I suspect it might be due to duplicate content. For example, when I search the title of my posts, sometimes my site is not even returned, but the news aggregator site is. Could this be the problem with panda?

  Hello, I have seen that yahoo now enables their users to import facebook friend's email addresses into their yahoo addressbook. As far as i know, facebook doesn't allow any API to fetch email addresses of any user on external websites. I have also seen that Yahoo imports email addresses only when the friend's have chosen not to display their contact email to themselves only. Many people in the world trying to implement applications using facebook's API to import email addresses of friend's (Only those email addresses which are visible on user's facebook profile) but API calls always return NULL to their requests. So i would like to know what exactly happened between facebook and yahoo? Does facebook have provided any concessions to Yahoo's addressbook importer application to import facebook user's email addresses? Is there any working API/method/way available to fetch email addresses of facebook friends who have chosen to display their contact email ids on their profile with 1: only visible to friends, 2: visible to everyone privacy settings? I have also seen that, facebook API page clearly listen that email/contact_email field's can be fetched using FQL. Nevertheless there is no official explanation on this issue of returning NULL when email/contact_email is requested from any API call. Regards

  Possible Duplicate: How to find web hosting that meets my requirements? I am working on a project that will be released as open source in the latter part of the year. I am starting to think about how the accompanying website will be hosted and would greatly appreciate some advice. Requirements: Domain #1 Information about the project itself (just pages and pictures). Documentation / Wiki Forums Download of project source (approx 3MB archive) Download of various themes and community contributed content (est. sizes 10KB ~ 512KB). Domain #2 Primary company website that offers products and services. This will be primarily pictures and pages. What kind of web hosting would be best for a project like this. I am working on a very tight budget and can only afford to spend up to £250 per year for hosting this. I was considering using some sort of VPS hosting. However, I abandoned web programming for almost seven years and this year I decided to see what's the web programming today likes. • Is there any reason to allow Yahoo! Slurp to crawl my site?

  I thought a year or more ago Yahoo! would be using another search engine for results, and no longer using their own Slurp bot. However, a couple of the sites I manage Yahoo! Slurp continues to crawl pages, and seems to ignore the Gone status code when returned (as it keeps coming back). Is there any reason why I wouldn't want to block Yahoo! Slurp via robots.txt or by IP (since it tends to ignore robots.txt in some cases anyways)? I've confirmed that when the bot does hit it is from Yahoo! IPs, so I believe this is a legit instance of the bot. Is Yahoo Search the same as Bing Search now? is a related question, but I don't think it completely answers whether one should add a new block of the bot.

• Attach a Wordpress.org blog to my BigCommerce Store as a sub-domain

  I am stuck in a peculiar situation. I have a store on BigCommerce configured with a domain from GoDaddy (mystore.com). I recently created a custom wordpress blog and hosted it on 1and1 hosting (s418783372.onlinehome.us), since bigcommerce can't host Wordpress. Now, I want to use it from a sub-domain of my main-bigcommerece store (models.mystore.com), but it doesn't seem to be working since BigCommerce is the Domain Manager, but GoDaddy is the Domain-Registrar and 1and1 is the host so it doesn't control the domain. I have tried setting up a CNAME record on BigCommerece and when it didn't work asked BigCommerece about it, but they said they can't do anything about it since they aren't the domain registrar and gave me a message saying: The responsiblity to show the name in the browser on the site is up to the server or site admin. The Cname can only get the browser there UPDATE: I succeeded in setting up a CNAME on BigCommerce poinitng to the site at 1and1, but for some-reason, all it gives me is a 404-Not-Found error. I was thinking this is due to a restriction on 1and1, any idea on how to overcome that? Not Found The requested URL / was not found on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. I tried adding a domain on the 1and1 control panel (http://faq.1and1.co.uk/domains/domain_xfers/dns_transfer/4.html), pointing to models.mystore.com, but it isn't letting me add a Sub-Domain, there... UPDATE: I added mystore.com as an external domain and them added models.mystore.com as a sub-domain on the 1and1 hosting Domains panel. And it works :) Thank you all
