  • Java NIO Servlet to File

    Is there a way (without buffering the whole Inputstream) to take the HttpServletRequest from a Java Servlet and write it out to a file using all NIO? Is it even worth trying? Will it be any faster reading from a normal java.io stream and writing to a java.nio Channel or do they both really need to be pure NIO to see a benefit? Thanks.

    I'm using the following regexp to validate numbers in my javascript file: var valid = (val.match(/^\d+$/)); It works fine for whole numbers like 100, 200, etc, however for things like 1.44, 4.11, etc, it returns false. How can I change it so numbers with a decimal are also accepted?

  • When I really need to use [NSThread sleepForTimeInterval:1];

    Hi there, I have a program that needs to use sleep. Like really needs to. In lieu of spending ages explaining why, suffice to say that it needs it. Now I'm told to split off my code into a separate thread if it requires sleep so I don't lose interface responsiveness, so I've started learning how to use NSThread. I've created a brand new program that is conceptual so to solve the issue for this example will help me in my real program. Short story is I have a class, it has instance variables and I need a loop with a sleep to be depended on the value of that instance variable.   • Drawing translucent bitmaps using Canvas (Android)

    I have a Bitmap object and want to render it to a Canvas object with varying levels of translucency (i.e. make the whole bitmap partially see through). For example, I have sprites in a game (that are drawn over the top of a bitmap background) that I want to fade out from being opaque to being invisible. Can I do this without having to resort to OpenGL?

  • Why doesn't ifstream read to the end?

    I'm making a notepad-like program. To get the text from a file I read each character into the buffer by doing while (!file.EOF()) { mystr += file.get(); } however if I load in an exe it stops after MZ but Notepad reads the whole exe. I set my ifstream to binary mode but still no luck. What am I doing wrong? Thanks

    My input is a long list of files located on an Amazon S3 server. I'd like to download the metadata of the files, compute the hashes of the local files, and compare the metadata hash with the local files' hash. Currently, I use a loop to start all the metadata downloads asynchronously, then as each completes, compute MD5 on the local file if needed and compare. I think that the MD5 task was added to the end of .Net's task list and it didn't get to run until all the downloads completed. Ideally, I process the response as they arrive, not in order, and the MD5 is asynchronous but gets a chance to run.   • How to disable edit mode on cells but checkbox column?

    My checkbox column doesn't respond when ticked, apparently it was set to read only, so changing state back to false again will make it possible to tick. However, that will turn the whole edit mode to true. I tried to set edit mode to programatically while setting ReadOnly mode to false, but that will disable the checkbox back again. How can I disable edit mode on all cells except checkbox column?

  • File permissions changed between OS X and Windows

    I zipped a rails project from OS X and sent it to a colleague who works on Windows. He updated the source, zipped the whole project folder and sent the zip file back to me. After unzipping the project, I found that the file permissions information is kind of lost. For example, the script/server is changed from -rwxr-xr-x to -rw-r--r--. Is there a way to preserver the file permission flags, when transferring files between mac and windows? Thanks

    I am trying to get put out a simple site, which would pool the database every few seconds and update the information on the page dynamicly, when theres something new inserted. I am farily new to ruby, but I understand the whole concept of RJS, link_to_function and soforth. The question is, what is the best way how to implement some kind of simple loop, which would run after the page is loaded and update the DOM if there is something new to display.   • measure rendered html in javascript without affecting the measurement

    I am doing pagination in javascript. This is typographic pagination, not chopping up database results. For the most part it works, but I have run into a heisenberg issue where I cannot quite measure text without affecting it. I am not trying to measure text before it is rendered. I want the actual position it shows up at on screen, so I can paginate to where it is naturally wrapped. I am measuring the vertical position of characters, not the horizontal width of strings. The way I do this is similar to this answer in that I am applying a style to a block of text, then measuring the position of the newly created span. If the span does not reach the end of the page, I clear it and make a new span in a linear search. The problem is that the anti-aliased sub-pixel text layout is different when the span is applied. In rare cases, this causes the text to wrap differently when I measure it. I have only seen this when wrapping at a hyphen, and I assume it would not happen when wrapping at white space. As a concrete example, "prepared-he" is the string I am having trouble with. When I measure up to "prepare" it appears, as expected, to be within the current page. When I measure "prepared" the whole phrase wraps down to the next line, moving it to the next page, so it looks like the "d" is the character to break at. I break the text between "prepare" and "d-he" and that is wrong. Trying to evaluate individual characters opens a whole can of worms I would rather avoid. The wrapping changes because, with the new span, the line is 1 pixel wider. A solution to my problem could either be a better way to measure text using javascript, or a way to wrap text in a new element without affecting layout. I have tried setting margin-right:-1px for the class of the span being created to wrap the text. This had no noticeable effect. I am doing this in a UIWebView on the iPhone. There are some measurement related calls that are available in normal WebKit that are not available here. For example, Range does not have getBoundingClientRect or support setting an offset other than 0 in setStart or setEnd. Thank you
