  • Moving 2d objects on a 3d plane - AS3

    - by Borkz
I have a 2d plane rotated on its x axis, with 2d display objects I want to move around on the plane. Its pretty similar to a chess board: http://static.open.salon.com/files/chess011237853612.jpg The board is a rotated rectangle, and the pieces are just 2d display objects. Whats the easiest way to manipulate those objects so they appear to be moving on the board?

  • Flex bar chart with Two Y axis

    - by user345522
    I am trying to create a bar char in action 3 script. But for some reason I am getting 2 y-axis and no x axis. Can some one help spot the error. I have said "placement " bottom. The standalone code snippet is below. enter code here [Bindable] public var QUANTITY:ArrayCollection = new ArrayCollection([ {date:"22-Aug-05", quantity:1575.9}, {date:"23-Aug-05", quantity:1603.}, {date:"24-Aug-05", quantity:1507.1}, {date:"25-Aug-05", quantity:1568.8}, ]); private function getBarChartData(evt:MouseEvent):void{ var title:String = "ASDFZXCVB"; var pnlChart:Panel = new Panel(); pnlChart.title = title; pnlChart.height = 750; { var categoryAxisDate:CategoryAxis = new CategoryAxis(); categoryAxisDate.categoryField = "date"; var linearVolumeAxis:LinearAxis = new LinearAxis(); linearVolumeAxis.minimum = 1500; linearVolumeAxis.maximum = 1700; var colChart:ColumnChart = new ColumnChart(); colChart.showDataTips = true; { var horizontalAxisDateRenderer:AxisRenderer = new AxisRenderer(); horizontalAxisDateRenderer.axis = categoryAxisDate; horizontalAxisDateRenderer.placement = "bottom"; var quantityRenderer:AxisRenderer = new AxisRenderer(); quantityRenderer.axis = linearVolumeAxis; quantityRenderer.placement = "left"; colChart.horizontalAxisRenderers.push(horizontalAxisDateRenderer); colChart.verticalAxisRenderers.push(quantityRenderer); { var quantityColumnSeries:ColumnSeries = new ColumnSeries(); quantityColumnSeries.horizontalAxis = categoryAxisDate; quantityColumnSeries.yField="quantity"; quantityColumnSeries.displayName ="QUANTITY"; quantityColumnSeries.dataProvider = QUANTITY; quantityColumnSeries.verticalAxis = linearVolumeAxis; colChart.series.push(quantityColumnSeries); } } pnlChart.addChild(colChart); } canvasReportId.addChild(pnlChart); } ]] <mx:Button label="Submit" click="getBarChartData(event)" x="293" y="4"/> </mx:Canvas>

  • substrings and multiple textfields, AS3

    - by VideoDnd
    How do I get my text fields to populate correctly and show single digits? Description Each textfield receives a substring. This doesn't limit it's input, because the text fields shows extra numbers. The counters are set to 2,200,000.00, just to see if the numbers are populating. Ex A is the one I'm trying to fix. Ex A the one I want to fix //Tweening method 'could substitute code with Tweener' import fl.transitions.Tween; import fl.transitions.easing.*; //Timer that will run a sec and repeat var timer:Timer = new Timer(1000); //Integer values var count:int = +220000000; var fcount:int = 0; //Events and starting timer timer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, incrementCounter); addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, checkOdometerPosition); timer.start(); //Tween Variables var smoothLoop:int = 0; var originalYPosition:Number = 0; var upwardYPosition:Number = -99; //Formatting String function formatCount(i:int):String { var fraction:int = i % 100; var whole:int = i / 100; return ("0000000" + whole).substr(-7, 7) + "." + (fraction < 10 ? "0" + fraction : fraction); } //First Digit function checkOdometerPosition(event:Event):void{ if (seconds9.y <= upwardYPosition){ var toText:String = formatCount(fcount); //seconds9.firstDigit.text = formatCount(fcount); seconds9.firstDigit.text = toText.substr(9, 9); seconds9.y = originalYPosition; seconds8.firstDigit.text = toText.substr(8, 8); seconds8.y = originalYPosition; seconds7dec.firstDigit.text = toText.substr(7, 7); seconds7dec.y = originalYPosition; seconds6.firstDigit.text = toText.substr(6, 6); seconds6.y = originalYPosition; seconds5.firstDigit.text = toText.substr(5, 5); seconds5.y = originalYPosition; seconds5.firstDigit.text = toText.substr(4, 4); seconds5.y = originalYPosition; seconds3.firstDigit.text = toText.substr(3, 3); seconds3.y = originalYPosition; seconds2.firstDigit.text = toText.substr(2, 2); seconds2.y = originalYPosition; seconds1.firstDigit.text = toText.substr(1, 1); seconds1.y = originalYPosition; seconds1.firstDigit.text = toText.substr(1, 1); seconds1.y = originalYPosition; seconds0.firstDigit.text = toText.substr(0, 1); seconds0.y = originalYPosition; } } //Second Digit function incrementCounter(event:TimerEvent):void{ count++; fcount=int(count) if (smoothLoop < 9){ smoothLoop++; } else { smoothLoop = 0; } var lolly:String = formatCount(fcount-1); //seconds9.secondDigit.text = formatCount(fcount); seconds9.secondDigit.text = lolly.substr(9, 9); var addTween9:Tween = new Tween(seconds9, "y", Strong.easeOut,0,-222, .7, true); seconds8.secondDigit.text = lolly.substr(8, 8); var addTween8:Tween = new Tween(seconds8, "y", Strong.easeOut,0,-222, .7, true); seconds7dec.secondDigit.text = lolly.substr(7, 7); var addTween7dec:Tween = new Tween(seconds7dec, "y", Strong.easeOut,0,-222, .7, true); seconds6.secondDigit.text = lolly.substr(6, 6); var addTween6:Tween = new Tween(seconds6, "y", Strong.easeOut,0,-222, .7, true); seconds5.secondDigit.text = lolly.substr(5, 5); var addTween5:Tween = new Tween(seconds5, "y", Strong.easeOut,0,-222, .7, true); seconds4.secondDigit.text = lolly.substr(4, 4); var addTween4:Tween = new Tween(seconds4, "y", Strong.easeOut,0,-222, .7, true); seconds3.secondDigit.text = lolly.substr(3, 3); var addTween3:Tween = new Tween(seconds3, "y", Strong.easeOut,0,-222, .7, true); seconds2.secondDigit.text = lolly.substr(2, 2); var addTween2:Tween = new Tween(seconds2, "y", Strong.easeOut,0,-222, .7, true); seconds1.secondDigit.text = lolly.substr(1, 1); var addTween1:Tween = new Tween(seconds1, "y", Strong.easeOut,0,-222, .7, true); seconds0.secondDigit.text = lolly.substr(0, 1); var addTween0:Tween = new Tween(seconds0, "y", Strong.easeOut,0,-222, .7, true); } Ex A has 10 text objects, each with a pair of text fields. It’s move complex than Ex B, because it has a Y animation and pairs of numbers. The text objects are animated to create a scrolling effect. It moves vertically, and has a lead number and a catch up number contained in each symbol. See illustration for more description. Ex B work fine! for example only //STRING SPLITTER COUNTER with nine individual text fields //Timer settings var delay:uint = 1000/100; var repeat:uint = 0; var timer:Timer; timer = new Timer(delay,repeat); timer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, incrementCounter); timer.start(); //Integer values var count:int = 0; var fcount:int = 0; //Format Count function formatCount(i:int):String { var fraction:int = i % 100; var whole:int = i / 100; return ("0000000" + whole).substr(-7, 7) + "." + (fraction < 10 ? "0" + fraction : fraction); } //Split strings off to individual text fields function incrementCounter(event:TimerEvent) { count++; fcount=int(count+220000000) var toText:String = formatCount(fcount); mytext9.text = toText.substr(9, 9); mytext8.text = toText.substr(8, 8); mytext7dec.text = toText.substr(7, 7); mytext6.text = toText.substr(6, 6); mytext5.text = toText.substr(5, 5); mytext4.text = toText.substr(4, 4); mytext3.text = toText.substr(3, 3); mytext2.text = toText.substr(2, 2); mytext1.text = toText.substr(1, 1); mytext0.text = toText.substr(0, 1); }

  • Should I use Flash or Java?

    - by cable729
I want to make some 2d games that I may want to submit to a game site, such as newgrounds.com. Even if I decide not to submit, I'd still like to know which is a better choice. Which has a faster startup time? Which performs faster in a 2d game? Which IDE should I use? Thanks in advance!

  • How to get a physics engine like Nape working?

    - by Glacius
Introduction: I think Nape is a relatively new engine so some of you may not know it. It's supposedly faster than box2d and I like that there is decent documentation. Here's the site: http://code.google.com/p/nape/ I'm relatively new to programming. I am decent at AS3's basic functionality, but every time I try to implement some kind of engine or framework I can't even seem to get it to work. With Nape I feel I got a little further than before but I still got stuck. My problem: I'm using Adobe CS5, I managed to import the SWC file like described here. Next I tried to copy the source of one of the demo's like this one and get it to work but I keep getting errors. I made a new class file, copied the demo source to it, and tried to add it to the stage. My stage code basically looks like this: import flash.Boot; // these 2 lines are as described in the tutorial new Boot(); var demo = new Main(); // these 2 are me guessing what I'm supposed to do addChild(demo); Well, it seems the source code is not even being recognized by flash as a valid class file. I tried editing it, but even if I get it recognized (give a package name and add curly brackets) but I still get a bunch of errors. Is it psuedo code or something? What is going on? My goal: I can imagine I'm going about this the wrong way. So let me explain what I'm trying to achieve. I basically want to learn how to use the engine by starting from a simple basic example that I can edit and mess around with. If I can't even get a working example then I'm unable to learn anything. Preferably I don't want to start using something like FlashDevelop (as I'd have to learn how to use the program) but if it can't be helped then I can give it a try. Thank you.

  • Stopping some sounds from dynamic classes, and exlude some others.

    - by Hwang
The sound I wanted to stop or play are separates into background music and button sound effect. I know you could use SoundMixer.stopAll() to stop all sound, and some how exclude the bg music, IF everything is written in the same class. But what if the sounds are called from others dynamic classes? How could I target them and exclude the bg Music?

  • How can I stop Flash from changing indent when user Clicks on hyperlink in TextField?

    - by Paul Chernoch
I have a TextField which I initialize by setting htmlText. The text has anchor tags (hyperlinks). When a user clicks on the hyperlink, the indentation of the second and subsequent lines in the paragraph changes. Why? How do I stop it? My html has an image at the beginning of the line, followed by the tag, followed by more text. To style the hyper links to look blue always and underlined when the mouse is over them, I do this: var css:StyleSheet = new StyleSheet(); css.parseCSS("a {color: #0000FF;} a:hover {text-decoration: underline;}"); stepText.styleSheet = css; stepText.htmlText = textToUse; stepText.visible = true; Here is a fragment of the html text (with newlines and exrta whitespace added to improve readability - originally it was one long line): <textformat indent="-37" blockindent="37" > <img src="media/interface/level-1-bullets/solid-circle.png" align="left" hspace="8" vspace="1"/> American Dental Association. (n.d.). <i>Cleaning your teeth and gums (oral hygiene)</i>. Retrieved 11/24/08, from <a href="http://www.ada.org/public/topics/cleaning_faq.asp" target="_blank">http://www.ada.org/public/topics/cleaning_faq.asp </a> </textformat> <br/> As it turns out, the text field is of a width such that it wraps and the second line starts with "Retrieved 11/24/08". Clicking on the hyper link causes this particular line to be indented. Subsequent paragraphs are not affected. ASIDE: The image is a list bullet about 37 pixels wide. (I used images instead of li tags because Flash does not allow nested lists, so I faked it using a series of images with varying amounts of whitespace to simulate three levels of indentation.) IDEA: I was thinking of changing all hyperlinks to use "event:" as the URL protocol, which causes a TextEvent.LINK event to be triggered instead of following the link. Then I would have to open the browser in a second call. I could use this event handler to set the html text to itself, which might clear the problem. (When I switch pages in my application and then come back to the page, everything is OKAY again.) PROBLEM: If I use the "event:" protocol and user tries the right-mouse button click, they will get an error, or so I am told. (See http://www.blog.lessrain.com/as3-texteventlink-and-contextmenu-incompatibilities/ ) I do not like this trade-off.

  • Sound plays multiple times at once

    - by Jr. Mathews
I'm having trouble with sound in Flash. I may have went about coding the wrong way, because most of my codes are on frames. So, I have these two variables var outsideDay:Sound = new daysong(); var outsideNight:Sound = new nightsong(); And I want to play these songs on a specific frame. However, the sounds play sporadically, like 50 times at once. I think it's because I have other codes that link to the frames with a Enter_Frame function. How can I get the sounds to loop and not play multiple times at once?

  • interactive (adding listeners to) DAE model in flex + papervision

    - by G. Matthieu
I have a DAE model that is parsed into several parts. I am able to deal with them separately, such as changing their material or colour but I am having problems adding click or hover listeners over the children. For example, lets say I have a model of a kitty where each facial feature is a child. I want to be able to hover or click the features and have a window pop up explaining the feature. I've tried parsing the model and adding listeners but it doesn't seem to work. Thanks in advance! L

  • casting between sibling classes, AS3

    - by felix-gasca
I have two classes, derivedClassA and derivedClassB which both extend parentClass I'm declaring var o:parentClass and then, depending on what's going on, I want to cast o as either being of type derivedClassA or derivedClassB. Essentially, this: var o:parentClass ... if(shouldUseA) o = new derivedClassA(); else o = new derivedClassB(); o.doSomething(); But it's not working, I'm getting all sorts of errors. Isn't this how class inheritance works? I feel like I'm missing something really fundamental, but I can't figure out what. Am I supposed to be using interfaces instead? Is there another way of doing what I want?

  • Timer vs setTimeout

    - by Christophe Herreman
The docs for flash.utils.setTimeout() state: Instead of using this method, consider creating a Timer object, with the specified interval, using 1 as the repeatCount parameter (which sets the timer to run only once). Does anyone know if there is a (significant) advantage in doing so? Using setTimeout is a lot easier when you only need to delay 1 call.

  • Issue with Multiple Text Fields and SharedObject Storing

    - by user1662660
I'm currently working on an AIR for iOS application in Flash CS6. I'm trying to store multiple pieces of data from various text inputs; i.e "name_txt", "number_txt" etc. I have the following code working for a local save file; import flash.events.Event; import flash.desktop.NativeApplication; import flash.events.Event; var n1:String = so.data.Number1; var so:SharedObject = SharedObject.getLocal("TravelPal"); emerg1.text = n1; emerg1.addEventListener(Event.CHANGE, updateEmerg1); function updateEmerg1 (e:Event):void { so.data.Number1 = emerg1.text; so.flush(); } NativeApplication.nativeApplication.addEventListener(Event.EXITING, onExit); function onExit(e:Event):void { so.flush(); } Now as soon as I create multiple text inputs and attempt to store them in my SharedObject, the whole system just falls apart. None of the text gets saved, even the previously working ones. I'm pretty new to ShardObject usage. What am I missing here? Is this a good way to go about storing multiple text inputs?

  • flash.media.Sound.play takes long time to return

    - by Fire Lancer
I'm trying to play some sounds in my flash project through action script. However for some reason in my code the call to Sound.play takes from 40ms to over 100ms in extreme cases, which is obviously more than enough to be very noticeable whenever a sound is played. This happens every time a sound is played, not just when that sound is first played, so I dont think its because the Sound object is still loading data or anything like that... At the start I have this to load the sound: class MyClass { [Embed(source='data/test_snd.mp3')] private var TestSound:Class; private var testSound:Sound;//flash.media.Sound public function MyClass() { testSound = new TestSound(); } Then im just using the play method of the sound object to play it later on. testSound.play();//seems to take a long time to return This as far as I can tell is following the same process as other Flash programs I found, however none of them seem to have this problem. Is there something that I've missed that would cause the play() method to be so slow?

  • How to prevent button/movieclip from interfering with mouse events

    - by webfac
I have a few swf's that are loaded into a base file using levels. These clips can be cycled through by means of a setInterval function or when the user clicks the next or previous button. However, when the user hovers over a defined 'hit' area which is ultimately a blank movie clip, the setTimeout call is then canceled. This works fine, except that now the 'hit' clip - being above everything - prevents the movies below accepting hit states, and if I move it to below everything else, when one mouses over any element in the loaded movie, it then acts as though the user has mouse out of the hit area. Is there any way to have this 'hit' clip do its job simply by determining if the mouse is over it, but without using an onRollOver function or equivalent? Much appreciated
