  • For Loop Question?

    - by NextRev
    I'm programming an app for the iPhone. I'm not very good with loops just yet. How do I shorten this code into a for loop? if(CGRectContainsRect([space1 frame], [box frame])){ space1.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"box.png"]; } else if(CGRectContainsRect([space2 frame], [box frame])){ space2.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"box.png"]; } else if(CGRectContainsRect([space3 frame], [box frame])){ space3.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"box.png"]; } else if(CGRectContainsRect([space4 frame], [box frame])){ space4.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"box.png"]; } else if(CGRectContainsRect([space5 frame], [box frame])){ space5.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"box.png"]; }

  • random generator to obtain data from array not displaying

    - by Yang Jie Domodomo
    I know theres a better solution using arc4random (it's on my to-try-out-function list), but I wanted to try out using the rand() and stand(time(NULL)) function first. I've created a NSMutableArray and chuck it with 5 data. Testing out how many number it has was fine. But when I tried to use the button function to load the object it return me with object <sampleData: 0x9a2f0e0> - (IBAction)generateNumber:(id)sender { srand(time(NULL)); NSInteger number =rand()% ds.count ; label.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"object %@", [ds objectAtIndex:number] ]; NSLog(@"%@",label.text); } While I feel the main cause is the method itself, I've paste the rest of the code below just incase i made any error somewhere. ViewController.h #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> #import "sampleData.h" #import "sampleDataDAO.h" @interface ViewController : UIViewController @property (weak, nonatomic) IBOutlet UILabel *label; @property (weak, nonatomic) IBOutlet UIButton *onHitMePressed; - (IBAction)generateNumber:(id)sender; @property(nonatomic, strong) sampleDataDAO *daoDS; @property(nonatomic, strong) NSMutableArray *ds; @end ViewController.m #import "ViewController.h" @interface ViewController () @end @implementation ViewController @synthesize label; @synthesize onHitMePressed; @synthesize daoDS,ds; - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; daoDS = [[sampleDataDAO alloc] init]; self.ds = daoDS.PopulateDataSource; // Do any additional setup after loading the view, typically from a nib. } - (void)viewDidUnload { [self setLabel:nil]; [self setOnHitMePressed:nil]; [super viewDidUnload]; // Release any retained subviews of the main view. } - (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation { return (interfaceOrientation != UIInterfaceOrientationPortraitUpsideDown); } - (IBAction)generateNumber:(id)sender { srand(time(NULL)); NSInteger number =rand()% ds.count ; label.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"object %@", [ds objectAtIndex:number] ]; NSLog(@"%@",label.text); } @end sampleData.h #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> @interface sampleData : NSObject @property (strong,nonatomic) NSString * object; @end sampleData.m #import "sampleData.h" @implementation sampleData @synthesize object; @end sampleDataDAO.h #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> #import "sampleData.h" @interface sampleDataDAO : NSObject @property(strong,nonatomic)NSMutableArray*someDataArray; -(NSMutableArray *)PopulateDataSource; @end sampleDataDAO.m #import "sampleDataDAO.h" @implementation sampleDataDAO @synthesize someDataArray; -(NSMutableArray *)PopulateDataSource { someDataArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc]init]; sampleData * myData = [[sampleData alloc]init]; myData.object= @"object 1"; [someDataArray addObject:myData]; myData=nil; myData = [[sampleData alloc] init]; myData.object= @"object 2"; [someDataArray addObject:myData]; myData=nil; myData = [[sampleData alloc] init]; myData.object= @"object 3"; [someDataArray addObject:myData]; myData=nil; myData = [[sampleData alloc] init]; myData.object= @"object 4"; [someDataArray addObject:myData]; myData=nil; myData = [[sampleData alloc] init]; myData.object= @"object 5"; [someDataArray addObject:myData]; myData=nil; return someDataArray; } @end

  • Appending Strings to NSMutableString

    - by Typeoneerror
    Been looking at this for a bit now and not understanding why this simple bit of code is throwing an error. Shortened for brevity: NSMutableString *output; ... @property (nonatomic, retain) NSMutableString *output; ... @synthesize output; ... // logs "output start" as expected output = [NSMutableString stringWithString:@"output start"]; NSLog(@"%@", output); ... // error happens here [output appendString:@"doing roll for player"]; Can anyone spot my mistake?

  • NSPredicate case-insensitive matching on to-many relationship

    - by Brian Webster
    I am implementing a search field where the user can type in a string to filter the items displayed in a view. Each object being displayed has a keywords to-many relationship, and I would like to be able to filter the objects based on their keywords. Each keyword object has a name property, so I've set up an NSPredicate to do the filtering that looks like this: NSPredicate* predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"keywords.name CONTAINS %@", self.searchString]; This works, but the problem is that the search is case-sensitive, so if the keyword has a capital letter but the user types in all lowercase, no matches are found. I've tried the following modification: NSPredicate* predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"keywords.name CONTAINS[c] %@", self.searchString]; But that doesn't make any difference in the case sensitivity of the matching. Is there a way to do this case-insensitive matching using just a plain predicate? Or will I need to implement some sort of custom accessor on the keyword class, e.g. write a lowercaseName method and match against a lowercased version of the search string instead? Addendum: After further exploration, the workaround of adding a custom accessor works OK for manual use of NSPredicate, but does not work at all when using NSFetchRequest with Core Data, which only works when querying attributes defined in the Core Data model.

  • iOS App with OCMaps crashes when using the phone in chinese Language

    - by Pedro Morte Rolo
    I've been given the task of doing maintenance to a iOS application that uses OCMapView. I have just realized that when using the application in chinese language, it blows up when the selector doClustering is invoked on a OCMapView instance. This is for me a very puzzling behaviour, because I thought that regardless of the environment language, the OCMapView class should allways have the same methods. Am I wrong? Do you have any recomentations about how to find a solution to this problem? Thank you, Pedro

  • Can I disable UIPickerView scroll sound?

    - by cocoaholic
    Hi, I want to disable the annoying clicks that the UIPickerView generates upon scrolling up and down. Is there a way to do this? I want to play short sounds for each item that the picker view lands upon. It gets ruined by the built in sound. I understand that the picker sounds can be turned off globally by switching off the keyboard sounds in iPhone/iPod settings. But is there a way to programatically do this? Any help will be much appreciated! Thanks

  • Why does my UITableView change from UITableViewStyleGrouped to UITableViewStylePlain

    - by casper
    My application has a view controller that extends UITableViewController. The initialization method looks like this: - (id)initWithCoder:(NSCoder*)coder { if (self = [super initWithCoder:coder]) { self.tableView = [[UITableView alloc] initWithFrame:self.tableView.frame style:UITableViewStyleGrouped]; } return self; } When the view is initially loaded, it's displayed as UITableViewStyleGrouped. However, if my app ever receives a low memory warning, the above view changes to UITableViewStylePlain. There is no associated xib file with the View/Controller. The viewDidUnload and didReceiveMemoryWarning methods are straightforward: - (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning { // Releases the view if it doesn't have a superview. [super didReceiveMemoryWarning]; // Release any cached data, images, etc that aren't in use. } - (void)viewDidUnload { // Release any retained subviews of the main view. // e.g. self.myOutlet = nil; } My question is, why does the table style change when I receive a memory warning?

  • Cocos2D, UIScrollView, and initial placement of a scene

    - by diatrevolo
    Hello: I am using a UIScrollView to forward touches to Cocos2D as outlined in http://getsetgames.com/2009/08/21/cocos2d-and-uiscrollview/ Everything works great after a few days of working with it, except one thing: when the initial view appears on the screen, the background appears to be scrolled to the center. As soon as I try to scroll around, the image jumps to 0,0, and everything works as normal, except the touches are offset by half the width and height of the background image. Am I overlooking something basic? I can't think of a useful portion of the code that illustrates the issue, as I can't track it down, but would be happy to post code if anyone has any ideas. Thanks in advance, -Roberto

  • Trying to parse twitter trends

    - by timothy5216
    Im trying to parse twitter trends but i keep getting a parser error at "as_of". anyone know why this is happening? EDIT: Here is the code im using NSMutableArray *tweets; tweets = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:@"http://search.twitter.com/trends/current.json"]; trendsArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithArray:[CCJSONParser objectFromJSON:[NSString stringWithContentsOfURL:url encoding:4 error:nil]]]; NSMutableDictionary *dict = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init]; for (int i = 0; i < [trendsArray count]; i++) { dict = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init]; //[post setObject: [[currentArray objectAtIndex:i] objectForKey:@"query"]]; [dict setObject:[trendsArray objectAtIndex:i] forKey:@"trends"]; //[dict setObject:[trendsArray objectAtIndex:i] forKey:@"query"]; //[post setObject:[trendsArray objectAtIndex:i] forKey:@"as_of"]; [tweets addObject:dict]; //post = nil; }

  • How can I check whether Exposé is being activated or not?

    - by yangumi
    Hi, I'm creating an application that emulates MacBook's multi-touch Trackpad. As you may know, on MacBook's trackpad if you swipe 4 fingers up, it triggers the Show Desktop. if you swipe 4 fingers down, it shows the Exposé. However, if the Show Desktop is being activated and you swipe 4 fingers down, it will come back to the normal mode. The same goes with the Exposé: if the Exposé is being activated and you swipe 4 fingers up, it will also come back to the normal mode. Here is the problem: I use the keyboard shortcut F3 to show the Exposé and F11 to show the Show Desktop. The problem is, when the Show Desktop is being activated, if I press F3, it will go straight to the Exposé. And when the Exposé is being activated, if I press F11 it will go straight to the Show Desktop. But I want it to behave like Trackpad, which I guess its code may look like this - FourFingersDidSwipeUp { if (isExposeBeingActivated() || isShowDesktopBeingActivated()) { pressKey("Esc"); } else { pressKey("F11"); } } But I don't know how to implement the "isExposeBeingActivated()" and "isShowDesktopBeingActivated()" methods. I've tried creating a window and check whether its size has changed (on assumption that if the Expose is being activated, its size should be smaller), but the system always returns the same size. I tried monitoring the background processes during the Expose, but nothing happened. Does anyknow have any suggestions on this? (I'm sorry if my English sounds weird.)

  • Does NSArray:lastObject return an autoreleased object?

    - by Kyle
    I'm working on an iPhone project where I would like to retrieve an object from an NSMutableArray, remove the object from the array and then use it later. The code looks something like this: NSMutableArray * array; // fill the array NSObject * obj = [array lastObject]; [array removeLastObject]; // do something with obj (in the same function) array is the only entity with a retain on the object that is being accessed. Is this safe to do? I would assume that this would only work if lastObject autoreleased the object which is something that I can't figure out if it does.

  • longitude and latitude for current location returned from CLLocationManager in UK region is not corr

    - by bond
    Hi I am getting latitude and longitude of current location from CLLocationManager delegate method. It works fine for some region but its giving problem in UK region. When it is used in UK region, the current location longitude and latitude returned from CLLocationManager is not proper. Thanks heres a part of the logic i am using. -(void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated { [super viewWillAppear:animated]; self.locationManager = [[CLLocationManager alloc] init]; if(self.locationManager.locationServicesEnabled) { self.locationManager.delegate = self; self.locationManager.distanceFilter = kCLDistanceFilterNone; self.locationManager.desiredAccuracy = kCLLocationAccuracyBest; } } -(void)locationManager:(CLLocationManager *)manager didUpdateToLocation:(CLLocation *)newLocation fromLocation:(CLLocation *)oldLocation { NSLog(@"Updating"); //if the time interval returned from core location is more than 15 seconds //we ignore it because it might be from an old session if ( abs([newLocation.timestamp timeIntervalSinceDate: [NSDate date]]) < 15) { self.latitude = newLocation.coordinate.latitude; self.longitude = newLocation.coordinate.longitude; NSLog(@"longitude=%f-- latitude=%f--",self.longitude,self.latitude); [self.locationManager stopUpdatingLocation]; [self removeActivityIndicator]; [[self locationSaved] setHidden:NO]; [[self viewLocationInMap] setEnabled:YES]; }}

  • Sound not working in iPhone Simulator?

    - by pix0r
    Somehow my iPhone Simulator is unable to play sounds. First an app I'm working on using AudioServicesPlaySystemSound() stopped working.. I spent a while debugging this but sound is still working on the iPhone when I run the app on the device. I get the same results with other iPhone apps such as the sample Crash Landing app. I can't find a sound setting anywhere in the simulator or Xcode preferences. I've tried resetting the simulator through "Reset Content and Settings" menu item to no avail.

  • iPhone: understanding field crash reports: unrecognized selector?

    - by quixoto
    Hi all, A user of my app out in the field seems to having bad crash-at-app-start issues. I got him to send me the .crash files from his PC. After "symbolicating" them according to this article, I get what looks from the stack like a unrecognized selector fail. But the top line of code corresponding to my process is an unambiguous message send that gets executed hundreds of times without issue in my app normally. Needless to say, I never repro this issue myself. Can the crash report lie? Could this stack indicate anything besides unrecognized selector? Thanks for any insight. • Get CoreLocation Update before TableView population?
