• How to open files which are located in VirtualBox's Guest Machine from Netbeans of Host Machine

  I have Ubuntu 10.04 installed in my Host Machine and it has VirtualBox. I have Guest Machine wich runs Ubuntu 10.10. I have NetBeans installed in Host Machine and need to open my project files which are located in Guest Machine. The reason I need it is because in my working place I have not access to install any applications, that is why I have Guest Machine where I have Web Server installed on it and also I have one web application that I am developing. I need to open that web application files from Guest Machine's Netbeans in order to modify/create new files for my web application. I have configured SSH server of Guest Machine and added port redirection in the VirtualBox so that now I can connect to it from Host Machine. But I could not find any way to open those files from Netbeans. Could anybody give me advice about how can I do that please? UPDATE I forgot to say that I don't want to use SharedFolders.

• Populating <validuser/> field in WorkItem

  Hi I've created a new WorkItem named Project that contains a field named business owner which can be any domain user. The field was created using the WorkItem XML syntax using the tag. I have a problem that only TFS valid users (as the name suggests :)) show up the the combobox in the Visual Studio form. Is there any way for me to let that box contain all domain users without having to give all users some tfs read access ? If not then what is the minimum access that I can apply in TFS that I can give to all domain users ? Or is there some other way that I can't notice ?

• Does C99 guarantee that arrays are contiguous ?

  Following an hot comment thread in another question, I came to debate of what is and what is not defined in C99 standard about C arrays. Basically when I define a 2D array like int a[5][5], does the standard C99 garantee or not that it will be a contiguous block of ints, can I cast it to (int *)a and be sure I will have a valid 1D array of 25 ints. As I understand the standard the above property is implicit in the sizeof definition and in pointer arithmetic, but others seems to disagree and says casting to (int*) the above structure give an undefined behavior (even if they agree that all existing implementations actually allocate contiguous values). More specifically, if we think an implementation that would instrument arrays to check array boundaries for all dimensions and return some kind of error when accessing 1D array, or does not give correct access to elements above 1st row. Could such implementation be standard compilant ? And in this case what parts of the C99 standard are relevant.

• Java Plugin - Firefox

  Having trouble getting Java to work with Firefox (22), I have followed the advice in this question and on the official Java site, but nothing seems to work. I have the latest Java (1.7.0_25) in /opt/java and have set a symlink in /usr/libs/mozilla/plugins for the libnpjp2.so file. I can see the file in the terminal and Java runs fine. However Firefox shows nothing in about:plugins. I have also run export JAVA_HOME="/opt/java/jre1.7.0_05/bin/java" to be on the safe side. I know there are multiple plugin directories such as /usr/lib/firefox/plugins and /usr/lib/firefox-addons/plugins, but all my current plugins show they are located in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins when viewing the about:plugins page. A bit stuck on where to go next?

• "bad mirror archive" : What should I put as the "mirror of ubuntu archive" on installation of ubuntu?

  I'm trying to set up ubuntu from my old macintosh laptop, but when it asks me to put in the "mirror of ubuntu archive" I run into problems. For the mirror, I put in mirror.anl.gov for the ubuntu archive mirror directory, i put in pub/ubuntu/ Then I leave the http proxy blank and hit "continue" It then tries to "download release files", which starts at 0%, and eventually jumps straight to 100% and then it presents me with an error of "bad mirror archive". Any advice? I never set up ubuntu before, and I'm really struggling with this step.

• Which Game Engine to Use for an Angry Bird style game? [JAVA] [on hold]

  Our team is building an Angry Bird Style game, and we have only about ten days. The game is a little more complex than Angry Bird because there are two players, they each have a castle with pigs to protect(not destroy:)). And the goal is to destroy the other player's pigs. I wonder what Game Engine would help us finish this game most efficiently. We at least need a physics engine but I guess game engine is more helpful since it usually includes physics engine. Correct me if I'm wrong. (So I'm wondering which game engine I should use, if it's just physics engine, I'll use box2d) Networking may or may not be added later depend on time we have.   I was at a conference two weeks ago, which was targeted to sales and marketing professionals. The discussions around the changing scenario in sales was very interesting. More and more of selling is moving to the internet- sales people are delivering more of their presentations online, or via the phone. Budget constraints and new technologies have dramatically decreased the need for face-to-face interactions. At the same time, customers are also researching for products on their own, taking the advice of peers, making up their mind, and then contacting the vendor. That takes care of more than half of the usual selling process. But humans are social animals, and because of that I believe that despite these changing trends and technologies, the need to maintain the human touch will always be necessary. One of the presenters at the conference shared this video, which stayed in my mind.

• Can't center dialog window above main window when using Glade (Quickly)

  I have a dialog opening when I press a button in my application and I want it to center above the application's main window, but I can't find a way to do this. I'm using Quickly (Python) and Glade. In Glade I've tried the following settings: Window Type = Popup Modal = Yes Window Position = Center on Parent But I simply can't get the behaviour I'm after. When using the "Window Type" option "Top level" the dialog opens in the center of the screen. When I use "Window Type" = "Popup" it opens in the very top left corner, with the window controls unaccessible. I know this must be a very basic setting but I've just started developing with GTK and Python so I obviously managed to miss this. Thanks for any advice! :)

• Multi Seat Ubuntu 10.10

  Hi I was hoping to have a 2 seat setup. One will be for my TV just going to run Boxee. The other is for my main Desktop. I've been looking for a good guide to help me navigate this, I'd like to use ubuntu 10.10. I am assuming it's just a case of getting a box + 2 graphics adaptors and 2 usb mice and keyboards, one of which will be bluetooth for the TV. I can't seem to find much documentation on this idea. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Also I am assuming that this is all possible with a standard ubuntu install, but with some additional configuration. • Realistic planetary terrain generation with weights

  I need terrain generation for a planet. The planet will be divided up into several hundred hexes, and I need it to be realistic and based on weights. I have dabbled in terrain generation before, but nothing like this. So I figure it would be a good idea to ask the community for answers, recommended articles or the like. By realistic, I mean not just random hexes, but continent shaped things with a few islands. More desert around the equator and more ice around the poles. I also have two weights I need to base it around: ice percentage and water percentage. That means that around XX% of the planet will need to be water. Does anyone have any advice or places to start? Generating arbitrary terrain is easy, but something a bit more "organic" like this seems rather difficult. It also needs to be seamless. Should be obvious since it's a planet, but no harm in pointing it out.

• How to encrypt php folder under /var/www?

  I need to encrypt the folder /var/www/test. The folder contains PHP files. The goal it to prevent any user to read the php content AND if the HD is mounted on another computer, the /var/www/test should be encrypted AND if computer booted up without any user logged I would like anyone to be able to access data in /var/www/tests. What is the correct approach for this? I've tried "ecryptfs-setup-private" as advised in How to encrypt /var/www? yet it didn't work for me. I've might missed something - I've tested the folders while booting with ubuntu 12.04 installation disk and mounted the drive, than I was able to access /var/www/test content.. yet this is what I want to prevent. The gnome-encfs isn't the way to go since its decryption happens when users logs on to the system & I would like the system to be working after power failure etc' without any one logged in. Please advice.

• Mac OS date command - getting higher temporal resolution

  Hey all, I am trying to use the date command in Terminal on multiple Mac OS X machines that are synced via NTP to synchronize some code in a program. Essentially I am running a program... MyProgram with arguments[date] I can get date to give me the seconds since the Unix epoch with the %M specifier. When I try to use %N to get nanosecond resolution, date just returns N. Is there anyway to get date to give me finer then second resolution? I wouldn't even mind passing two arguments such as (date +%M):arg2 And then converting units in the program.   I am planning on doing a fresh install of 12.04 LTS next weekend (I am currently on Beta) and want to know what is the correct way to install ATI Catalyst Video Drivers in 12.04 LTS? I have been reviewing all the Q&A on AU and the reason for asking this specific question is that I maybe be missing some dependencies from my planned coding. In a previous AU question relating to 11.10 (here) NOT 12.04 the accepted response stated that this was a dependency. sudo apt-get install ia32-libs I was also receiving conflicting advice on other websites which put doubts on what the correct approach was.

• SH/BASH - Scan a log file until some text occurs, then exit. How??

  Current working environment is OSX 10.4.11. My current script: #!/bin/sh tail -f log.txt | while read line do if echo $line | grep -q 'LOL CANDY'; then echo 'LOL MATCH FOUND' exit 0 fi done It works properly the first time, but on the second run and beyond it takes 2 occurrences of 'LOL CANDY' to appear before the script will exit, for whatever reason. And although I'm not sure it is specifically related, there is the problem of the "tail -f" staying open forever. Can someone please give me an example that will work without using tail -f? If you want you can give me a bash script, as OSX can handle sh, bash, and some other shells I think.

  Hi, This seems like something which must have been answered before, but I can't find anything appropriate in the question archives. Basically, I'm looking for a little Domain Specific Language to create flowcharts. I'm terrible at graphic design and making things look nice, and I'd really like a langauge where I could write something in code and it would produce a pretty flowchart. I've come across GraphViz, but it seems more suited to creating things like Finite State Machine diagrams, rather than process flowcharts. It also doesn't have the simple DSL-style front-end that would allow me to easily work it. Any ideas? I'm sure this must have been done before... Robin

• Can I buy a .CA if I have no affiliation with Canada?

  Well, the title says it all. It seems by CIRA (http://www.cira.ca/home-en/?lang=en) that I cannot, but the website doesn't make it explicitly clear how they check or anything like that... I have a domain name that I'd love to register for a business that will likely start in the US (where I'm based), but hopefully will grow globally (probably including Canada), but I want to build a brand around the domain name, and I do not want to get slammed by Canada yanking the domain name back if they discover I have no connection there. I only have experience with .com and .us domain names, so this is new territory for me. Any advice?

• Updating Pages after migration of website

  My web site was coded in Coldfusion and over the years has obtained a good ranking. I recently migrated the front-end to a Wordpress site and wanted to know what is ideal way of updating Google and the various search engines of of the updates. For example, the home page of index.cfm is no longer valid since it's index.php. I've submitted an updated sitemap.xml file to Google. I'm sure my site will slip some while the search engines re-index my site but I'd like to try and minimize this as much as possible with the holidays coming up (my site is a service oriented site that caters to people who travel during the holidays). Right now, the old .cfm pages are still online but are re-routed to the appropriate Wordpress page (for example, about.cfm is now routed to /about/ using a cflocation tag.). Not sure if I should pull down the .cfm pages all together or leave them in place until the new pages are picked up by the search engines. Any advice would be helpful.

• Determine Click-thru Percentage With PHP

  Hi all, I am currently working on a small sponsorship application(PHP/MySql) for my personal blog, and am almost finish, but I am stuck on how to calculate the click-thru rate of my sponsors campaigns. I was always terrible with working out percentages, so any practical help would be appreciated. The data is stored in the DB as simple numbers.. So as expected, when a page refreshes, or a sponsors ad is clicked, the data updates with an incrementation of 1. So using these values...say $clicks and $impressions, how would I determine the click-thru rate? What would be the sum I would use to calculate? An example function would really be appreciated.
