I haven't found a generic way to find the OS with SQL and I can't create stored procedures on the customer's database. If there is a way, it's probably vendor specific. Suggestions?   Hey guys, I am trying do write an application(server) which receives the keyboard instructions from the client and execute them on the server end. It's more like those screen recorders which records your keyboard and mouse events and replay them. For example, you pull up a textedit on the server, type whatever you like on the client and you can see those letters on the server. I have no clues what materials I should look into, any suggestions?

  What do people think is the best JSF framework or library for a saving state longer than request scope (but w/o using session scope) that is backbutton/new window safe -- i.e. you have a "wizard"/multi-page form. For example, MyFaces has the 'SaveState' tag (http://bit.ly/8QHmX5) that allows you to maintain state across pages by saving state in the view's component tree. Any comments on SaveState (pros/cons) or suggestions for any better framework or library for this capability?

• SSL socket connection on iPhone

  Is there a way to reuse SSL socket connections on the iPhone. I'm seeing an extra 3-4 second overhead in doing SSL handshaking. I'm using NSURLconnection currently to do the API calls and each one of them is taking 4-5 seconds on Wifi. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

• Change encoding to UTF-8 recursively on Windows?

  Does anybody know a tool, preferably for the Explorer context menu, to recursively change the encoding of files in a project from / to UTF-8 and other encodings? Freeware or not too expensive would be great. Edit: Thanks for the answers, +1 for all of them as they are all fine but I am a lazy bastard sometimes, and would really like to be able to just right click a folder and say "convert all .php files to UTF-8". :) Further suggestions are appreciated.

• what is the most elegant way in ruby to remove a parameter from url?
