• Entitiy Framework: "Update Database from Model" instead of "Generate Database from Model"

  Hey everyone, I have created a Entity Framework 4 model with Visual Studio 2010 and generated a database from it. Now I found myself adding new properties (with default values), changing documentation of columns, changing names of columns, changing types of columns several times. All tasks that do not require much "extra work" in order not to be possible to be achieved automatically (in my humble opinion). Everytime I did "Generate Database from Model" and lost of course the table data. Is there a way just to update the database's architecture so to say - leaving the table data untouched? Maybe with some user interaction especially when changing types etc.? Or would this functionality be simply too difficult to be realized to work in a reliable way? Thanks in advance! Cheers, David

• Caching videos but of 0 Size

  Hi everyone, i have recently install cachevideos on linux with squid, its working but when it caches the video the video is just of 0 bytes in size, in the videocache.log file something like this appears 2011-02-08 19:46:37,235 INFO 192.168.1.5 - REQUEST - http://www.youtube.com/get_video?tmi=1&noflv=1&video_id=HfgZnBaHbt8&t=vjVQa1PpcFN0gQqMeI0xmahi0fFgDO5n59r4VrXgQmM=&el=detailpage&asv=3&fmt=34 2011-02-08 19:46:38,529 INFO 192.168.1.5 HfgZnBaHbt8 DOWNLOAD YOUTUBE 0 Video was downloaded and cached. on my localhost/videocache/youtube , i can see the file but its of 0 bytes and when i access the file from browser , in the videocache directory it tells me that video has been served from cache, but how come i can be assure that a 0 byte video is cached! Whats the problem please help me i am atlost!! the help at cachevideo.com is not working because their security captcha cant be displayed and thus i am unable to contact anywhere!! Please help me out!!

• Visual Studio 2008 Build question x64 vs x86

  Hi Everyone, I have written an application on my x64 machine in Visual Stuido 2008. The application will be sent to someone, and I have two questions that I need answers to. What requirements will they need to have installed. I am assuming the .NET 3.5 redistributable. Are there anything else though? (The application does not call any external dependencies). This is my realy question that I can't find the answer to. I have developed and build the application on my x64 machine using the "Any CPU" option (as versus x64 or x86 specifically). Will this run on a 32 bit machine? (I don't have one to test). Or do I need to build it specifically for x86 in order to run it on a 32 bit machine? Many thanks, Brett

• Using SharePoint user profiles to build a company phone directory

  I'm working on a Sharepoint 2007 (MOSS Std) intranet implementation right now, and one of the things we'd like to do is replace the manually-maintained phone directory with the profile information we're importing from AD. People search is great, but I want to have a big page with all the names and phone numbers of the 150 or so people that work at the company (which means using the People Search webpart with a query hard-coded to return everyone won't work). A few quick searches haven't turned up anything, but this seems like a really common request. Can anyone help me out? I'm not opposed to buying a reasonably-priced webpart to solve this or writing some custom code, but both seem like they shouldn't be required for such a simple request.

• Add php extension (geoip.so) to Zend Studio for code validation

  Hi everyone, just have a short question here. I've just installed new php extension (geoip.so) using pecl to /usr/local/zend/lib/php_extensions/ and added the extension to the php.ini. Run the code and it works just fine. But Zend Studio is giving warning of undefined geoip function. Try to add the directory path above to the include path of Zend Studio, still the warning exists. Any clue how to remove this warning? Thank you in advance!! /Agustinus

• Problem with DWR and Android-Browser

  Hello everyone, I am experiencing a problem with accessing an application from the Android-browser. The application uses DWR to persist connections to the clients that are connected with it. Everything works fine for me, except that if the application does not send any data to the client on the Android-phone for 2 minutes, the connection seems to be lost and no data arrive at the client. The same scenario works just fine on Firefox, Opera and Chrome. If the pause between two data transfers is less than 2 minutes, it works just fine. So, now my question: Is there some timeout setting for the android browser that I am missing? Or is this some built-in bug/feature/whatever that I cannot circumvent? I know that I could prevent this from happening with some sort of heartbeat, I would just like to why this is happening. • Prawn PDF with Rails mailer?

  Hi Everyone, I have successfully created an email that sends on creation of a Kase, but now I need to attach a PDF that is created on the fly by Prawn and Prawno. Basically when you visit a kase such as application.com/kase/1 you just append the URL with .pdf i.e. application.com/kase/1. I spent ages getting the PDF to work and look how I wanted, but I can't figure out how to add the PDF to an auto sending email - mainly because I cannot work out how to give it a link as it's auto generated. Has anyone ever managed to get this to work? Thanks, Danny

• jQuery global variable best practice & options?

  Currently I am working on a legacy web page that uses a ton of javascript, jquery, microsoft client javascript, and other libraries. The bottom line - I cannot rewrite the entire page from scratch as the business cannot justify it. So... it is what it is. Anyway, I need to pollute (I really tried not too) the global namespace with a variable. There are the three options I was thinking - Just store/retrieve it using a normal javascript declaration - var x = 0; Utilize jQuery to store/retrieve the value in a DOM tag - $("body").data("x", 0); Utilize a hidden form field, and set/retrieve the value with jQuery - $("whatever").data("x", 0); What does everyone think? Is there a better way? I looked at the existing pile of code and I do not believe the variable can be scoped in a function.

• How to highlight clicks in app widget?

  Hi everyone, I have an app widget which runs neatly. However, I am unable to highlight a click on a linked item. I've seen it in the standard app widgets like 'Music' and 'Power Control', for instance. Moreover, I've also been studying the Music app widget's source at album_appwidget.xml. The only thing I could think of is the LinearLayout defined at lines 23-35 which states android:clickable="true" Unfortunately, this does not work for me. So does anyone have a hint on how to highlight a click on an app widget? I've tried the LinearLayout, TextView and Button. None of them displayed a border as a highlight. Thanks in advance, Steff

  Hi everyone, i'm trying to realize non-editable QTableView with widgets in cells that should contain clickable listed text. With following code i'm setting widget in definite cell: view = QTableView() label = QLabel( <some html text> ) ... view.setIndexWidget(index, label) I used html to make label's text clickable, but links became blue with underline and moreover by clicking on it with right mouse button appears popup menu with "Copy Link Locaion" option, where i wanted to place some hidden information instead of url and of course do not let user see this info. I'm looking for light-weight widget, i thought that insertion of QGraphicsView in each cell will lead to big computer loads, but can't think of any other solution.   Hi everyone, i wrote some app and trying with a help of QNetworkAccessManager send some data to server using POST request, however nothing happen at all. I tried to use QHttp and the same result. I have checked it with WireShark - none requests in the list from my program. I tried to send GET request and the same - none requests. I created project with Network libs, got example from help: manager = new QNetworkAccessManager(this); connect(manager, SIGNAL(finished(QNetworkReply*)), this, SLOT(requesReply(QNetworkReply*))); QNetworkRequest req; req.setUrl(QUrl("http://server.net/upload")); manager->get(req); Please help me to find what i'm missing.   Hello everyone.. I need some help in using the NSURLCache to download a simple file. It would need to be saved in the Documents folder of the app. I have seen the URLCache example that apple presented, but I didn't find it useful since it was an image that was being shown. In addition there was some complex code on the modification date. I actually need something when the application opens it will begin the download process. • Restful authentication between two GAE apps.

  Hello everyone, i am trying to write a restful google app engine application (python) that accepts requests only from another GAE that i wrote. I dont like any of the ways that i thought of to get this done, please advice if you know of something better than: Get SSL setup, and simply add the credentials on the request that my consuming app will send. I dont like it cause SSL will slow things down. Security by obsecurity. Add a random number in my request that is in Xmod0, where X is a secret number that both applications know. I just,,,, dont like this. Check the HTTP header to see where is the request coming from. This option is the one that i hate the least, not alot of processing, and spoofing an HTTP request is not really worth it, for my application's data. Is there any other clean solution for this?

  Hi everyone, I've got a problem with using for xml explicit in SQL Server 2000 (so I can't use the new path() stuff from sql 2005/8) Essentially I have two tables and the XML structure I want to have is <xml> <table_1 field1="foo" field2="foobar2" field3="foobar3"> <a_row_from_table_2 field1="goo" field2="goobar2" field3="goobar3" /> <a_row_from_table_2 field1="hoo" field2="hoobar2" field3="hoobar3" /> </table_1> </xml> That is, table_1 has a one-to-many relationship with table_2, and I want to make a hierarchy of it. So far I can't seem to get it, the closest I've managed to get is all the records from table1, with all the records from table2 appended to the very last element of table1 Any help with setting up this kind of relationship would be greatly appreciated. -Marcin

  I'm building a web semantic project that gathers the maximum ammount of historic data about a certain company and tries to predict its future market stock values. For data I have the historic stock values (not normalized), news (0 to 1 polarity) and subjective content (also a 0 to 1 polarity). What is the best AI system to train and use for this kind of objective? Is a simple NN with back-propagation training the best I can hope for? update: Everyone is concerned about the quality of this system. Although I'm pretty sure the system is as good as a random prediction (or even worse), this is a school project around artificial intelligence and web semantics. Therefore I'm only concerned in picking the best kind of train method for the data I have (NN, RBF, SVM, Bayes, neuro-fuzzy, etc). Its not about making money.

  Hi everyone, I haven't delved into custom generation of friendly URLs in ASP.Net MVC, and was wondering if anyone had suggestions. For example, if John Smith were to create an account on www.example.com, I'd like for his homepage to read www.example.com/JohnSmith -- along with the option for him to choose his URL. The ideal is for this to happen with no intervention on my part in the route maps. Also, does anyone have guidelines on good ways to go to customize an MVC site based on URL? • Join column with different collation issue

  Hello everyone, I am using SQL Server 2005. I have two tables, and they are using different collations. It is not allowed to concatenate columns from tables with different collations, for example the following SQL is not allowed, select table1column1 + table2column2 from ... My question is, why concatenation of two columns from different collations is not allowed from database engine design perspective? I do not know why collation will impact results, the result is just concatenating strings -- should be simple enough and not dependent on collation... thanks in advance, George

• Can I pass data into a HashMap<String,Object> from JSP to a JavaBean?

  Hi Everyone, I am just starting out with JSP, Java, etc web development... I would love to use some sort of framework, but for this project I can't do that. In any case I want to potentially pass essentially limitless data (for flexibility) to my javabeans. My idea was if I can have key value pairs that would really easy. The values will always be strings or integers. HashMap seems ideal in this case. Is this possible? Any ideas? Can I do this with JSP Bean tags or should I write scriptlets? Thanks!!!

So - is there a good reason for code like this that I'm missing, or was this code extract just put together by a shitty developer? I'm hoping there is a good reason, and I'm just blindly missing it.   Hi everyone, I would like to implement asynchronous email sending in my web application when users register for a new account. This is so that if there is a problem or delay in sending the email message (e.g. the mail server is down or the network connection to the mail server is slow) the user won't be kept waiting for the sending to complete. My web app is built using Spring and Hibernate's implementation of JPA. What would be the best and most reliable way for me to implement asynchronous email processing in this web application? I am thinking about persisting the email information in a database table which is then regularly polled by a Quartz (http://www.opensymphony.com/quartz/) scheduled job for updates and when it finds new unsent emails, it attempts to send them. Is this a reasonable way of implementing what I want? Thanks.

• Weird in my UIImagePickerController with camera

  Hi everyone: I met a problem on using camera by scratch on iphone. Other people's code just run fine on my 3GS. But my code doesn't. When I implemented a UIViewController controller, and I add the following code in viewdidload: UIImagePickerController *picker = [UIImagePickerController alloc] init]; picker.source = UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypeCamera; picker.delegate = self; //Previously added all the delegate properly [self presentModalViewController:picker animated:YES]; Nothing comes out. I checked in the debugger, it shows that the picker is allocated, but here is the major difference between my and success one. picker._imagepickerflag.visible = 0; //others show 1; picker.UINavigationController._containerView: 0x0 ; // others have value. Can anyone help me on this, is there something wrong? Thank you.
