• Step-by-step execution for Intel AT&T assembler?

  Hello everyone, I'm writing a compiler that converts source code (written in a small imperative programming language) to Intel AT&T 32-bit assembler. I tend to spend a lot of time debugging, because of nasty offset-mistakes etc. in the generated code, and I would like to know if anyone knows of a tool to "walk through" the generated assembler code step-by-step, visualizing what's on the stack etc. I use Ubuntu Linux as my development platform, and I'm comfortable with the terminal -- a GUI-program would be nice though. Does it exist? Or is there a good reason it doesn't (maybe the problem isn't so straightforward..?) If you have good ideas for approaching debugging tasks in assembly code, I'll be glad to hear from you!

  Hey everyone, I have a dillema where our client relations department has been brought in for advice on UI and I vehemently disagree with it...even though I don't consider myself a designer at all. While I have been vocal about my disagreement about it, I've been asked to point to design standards to prove that what I'm saying is correct and that the guys in Client Relations are flat out wrong. A mockup is below, I'm trying to argue that the icons of the airplane, boat, and couch (ya, I didn't choose those either) belong in the header of the page (same area as the logo) and not in the content area of the page.   Hello everyone! I'm trying to create annual, all-day events with VBA in outlook 2007. I use the following code, but no matter which conbination of Start, StartDate, End, etc I use, it won't create a whole-day event. Either it gives it default start/end times, or it remove the all-day attribute... Dim Birthday As Date 'Get the birthday '... • Best way to update badgeValue of UITabBarController from a UIView

  Hi everyone, I have a tabBarController set up in the AppDelegate and have a few UIViewControllers with Nav Controllers. In one of the TabBar items, after I have pushed a few UIViews I want to update the badgeValue item of a different TabBar item. Whats the best way to do this? The only way I can really think is a NSNotification and a singleton storage for the value, but it seems a lot of work for something simple, that and I have no idea about NSNotifications. I had a wild guess at something like super.tabBarController.otherView.badgeValue = @"1" (as I set which tab is selected in a similar way) but I'm not surprised this doesn't work. Thanks

  Hi everyone, I am incorporating a Flash Flickr Polaroid file into my site, http://www.no3dfx.com/polaroid/ But I am having problems with the images being smooth. I have edited the code throughout with forceSmoothing = true and _quality = best. It all works and looks smooth if I test the file in the preview window and if I run the HTML file. But as soon as I put the file under IIS the smoothing stops. All my flash players are v10+ I have turned the IIS compression off but no luck. Can anyone please help with this? Thanks, Clyde

  While I'm sitting here in my expensive chair which was told to me were gonna help me with my neck and shoulder pains; it didn't. So don't go spend $2,000 on a chair because it's not gonna help. I am trying everything to keep my body in shape, exercising to keep my pizza-body slim and just to feel well in general. What I'd like to do is take a couple of seconds, maybe when the code compiles, to reach up, do a couple of X and feel good. But, what is this X? When I sit there at work, what will everyone think when I stand up and start to hula hula because I want to exercise my basin? I know a lot of programmers out there do have pain so let's come up with a little list together to help us all keep our joints feeling good. Programming gives me joint pain, how do i avoid it without quitting programming?

Let's say I have 2 xsd files e.g "Envelope.xsd" and "Body.xsd" I create 2 sets of classes by running xsd.exe, creating something like "Envelope.cs" and "Body.cs", so far so good. I can't figure out how to link the two classes to serialize (using XmlSerializer) into the proper nested xml, i.e: I want: <Envelope><DocumentTitle>Title</DocumentTitle><Body>Body Info</Body></Envelope> But I get: <Envelope><DocumentTitle>Title</DocumentTitle></Envelope><Body>Body Info</Body> Could someone perhaps show me how the two .cs classes should look to enable XmlSerializer to runt the desired nested result? • C++ linking issue on Visual Studio 2008 when crosslinking different projects on same solution

  I'm using Google Test Framework to set some unit tests. I have got three projects in my solution: FN (my project) FN_test (my tests) gtest (Google Test Framework) I set FN_test to have FN and gtest as references (dependencies), and then I think I'm ready to set up my tests (I've already set everyone to /MTd (not doing this was leading me to linking errors before)). Particularly, I define a class called Embark in FN I would like to test using FN_test. So far, so good. • How to manage and capture database changes across several developers?

  We have three developers and one tester all working against the same database. We change the schema of the database quite often, and every time we do it tends to have a ripple effect of headaches for everyone else. Are there good practices in place for .NET oriented development against MS SQL Server 2008 for managing this? I am thinking something similar to Rails Migrations and each dev and tester has their own local database. Or is that overkill? It'd at least be nice to have separate test and dev databases, but currently manually keeping two databases in sync is probably worse than our current predicament. LiquiBase seems promising, has anyone successfully used it in a similar environment? Or are there better approaches? We are using SQL Server 2008, VS 2008 and .NET 3.5 if that matters at all.

• Porting a project to OpenGL3

  Hi everyone, I'm working on a C++ cross-platform OpenGL application (Windows, Linux and MacOS) and I am wondering if some of you could share some advices on porting a large application to OpenGL 3. The reason I am looking into OpenGL 3 is because I think we could benefit a lot from using the new "Sync objects". Nvidia has supported such an extension since the Geforce 256 days (gl_nv_fences) but there seems to be no equivalent functionality on ATI hardware before OpenGL 3.0+... Our code makes quite heavy use of glut/freeglut, glu functions, OpenGL 2 extensions and CUDA (on supported hardware). The problem I am now facing is that "gl3.h" and "gl.h" are mutually incompatible (as stated in gl3.h). Do you guys know if there is a GL3 glut equivalent ? Also, looking at the CUDA-toolkit header files, it seems that GL-CUDA interoperability is only available when using older versions of OpenGL... (cuda_gl_interop.h includes gl.h...). Am I missing something ? Thanks a lot for your help.

• Flex 4 - Using .pfm/.pfb fonts

  Hi everyone, I just switched to Flash Builder 4 & Flex 4 SDK, and it seems it's no longer possible to use a .pfm/.pfb font, either by embedding it or using it as a system font. I keep getting error messages, and Google can't find anybody having the same issue. I tried several methods: - copy/pasting the [Embed] statement which was working using Flex 3 SDK - installing the font and then try to simply call it by its name in a CSS declaration without embedding it ; seems to work for every .ttf and .otf system fonts, but not for .pfm/.pfm ones - using a Flash-generated swf which embeds the font So far none of these seems to work. Has anybody got an idea on how to achieve this? I actually don't care using a system font without embedding it as long as it works. I'll be really grateful if somebody could help me on this, I'm totally stuck and cannot use another font instead.

  Hello to everyone :), I am using the recursive Flood fill algorithm in Java to fill some areas of a image. With very small images it works fine, but when de image becomes larger the JVM gives me a Stack Over Flow Error. That's the reason why I have to reimplement the method using a Flood Fill with my own stack. (I read that's the best way to do it in these kind of cases) Can anyone explain me how to code it? (if you don't have the code at hand, with the pseudo-code of the algorithm will be fine) I've read a lot in the Internet but I haven't understood it very well. Thanks!

• Java Google App Engine inconsistent data lose after restarting dev server

  Hello everyone, I am using Java GAE. So far, i'm just scafolding my data objects and i'm seeing an interesting issue. The records that i am playing around with are getting updated properly as long as my dev server is running up. The second that the my dev server gets restarted, i lose all of my changes. That would be not alarming if i lost all of my records, but, there was a point of time where my data persisted through the server restart. I'm worried that i would lose production data if i launched without fixing this potential bugs? ANy idea on wher ei should look?

  Hi everyone, I tried to write an editable table based on QTreeView with wordwraped content in cells which in turn should expand in height (that whole text was visible) like usual cells in tables like in MSWord, but have met insuperable obstacles: first - i can't set fixed cell size. second - i can't make text display in cells wordwraped. For this i used void QTreeWidget::setItemWidget ( QTreeWidgetItem * item, int column, QWidget * widget ), but it works only for readonly solutions. And i haven't come up with any other idea. So I want to submit form without loosing the values already selected in the form because I need to stay always at the same level in the form.To be more clear, user choose a value from ddl and click edit button to show other options and fill them at the same form without loosing what he has selected. Having said that, I researched a lot on how to properly plug-in Linq2Sql in application design. what to put at what layer ? Should I use DTOs over Linq2Sql entities ? I did not find any rock-solid material that really talked about one single thing and everyone had their own opinions and I found all of them justified right from their arguments. I'm looking forward to your ideas on how to integrate/use Linq2Sql in projects.
