• how to retrieve part of a string in java?

  Hello everyone, I am designing a chat applet. In this, a user will append his name to the beginning of the message that he sends to the other user. In the window of other user, I want to retrieve the appended user name from that string. How do I do that? The message sent by the user is as follows : final_msg = user_name + ": " + user_message Hence I want to know how to retrieve the user_name string only. Is there a function that can retrieve a substring upto the first ":"? I dont want to use final_msg.split(":"), because there is a possiblity that the user_message contains ":", which will then give me an array of strings.

• iPhone Objective-C/Plain C Memory Management

  Hi everyone, I understand Objective-C memory management but I'm using Core Graphics functionality such as CGRect, CGPoint, CGImageRef etc.. which is written in plain C. My question is how do i manage this memory or is it already handled for me? According to the Apple documentation if an Apple Objective-C function doesn't have copy, new or create in it the returned object is managed for you using autorealease. Is this true for the Core Graphics stuff also? (Well i guess it wont be using autorealease but maybe something similar?) Thanks for taking the time to read this.

• Change field access to getter / setter method access

  Hi everyone, is it possible to change external class field accesses in Java to getter / setter calls automatically, and also hide the exposed fields? I'm using Javabeans and I want change notifications when a field property changes (this is important). I've found cglib which can automatically insert the property change call to the PropertyChangeSupport field. I'd like this question to be a discussion of the issues posed and their solutions. I know about Project Lombok, but this appears to modify the source code, and additionally doesn't support field access modification. • Implementing a Stack using Test-Driven Development

  I am doing my first steps with TDD. The problem is (as probably with everyone starting with TDD), I never know very well what kind of unit tests to do when I start working in my projects. Let's assume I want to write a Stack class with the following methods(I choose it as it's an easy example): Stack<T> - Push(element : T) - Pop() : T - Seek() : T - Count : int - IsEmpty : boolean How would you approch this? I never understood if the idea is to test a few corner cases for each method of the Stack class or start by doing a few "use cases" with the class, like adding 10 elements and removing them. What is the idea? To make code that uses the Stack as close as possible to what I'll use in my real code? Or just make simple "add one element" unit tests where I test if IsEmpty and Count were changed by adding that element? How am I supposed to start with this?

  Hello Everyone, After having a search around I could not find exactly what I want, I am looking to validate a form client side using the Jquery library and some form of validation plugin. I was hoping that some one could advise me on whether there are any validation plugins out there that do not use generic error messages, as my form is laid out with no room for these errors, and I also I want the validator to to for correct content as well. Basically I want to be able to check the field on each key press and blur and if the fields validates for it to gain a green border, and if it does not validate for it to gain a red border, any one know of a plugin that can do this?   Good morning everyone at Stackoverflow, I am trying to find a VBA script that finds and replaces a certain text in incoming e-mails. So far i've been unable to find such a script that is working. I found several scripts to find and replace stuff in the e-mail but these don't work as a rule on incoming e-mails, they only work on outgoing / creating e-mails. Does anyone have such a script that they can share with me? I would like to find & replace a certain text on every incoming e-mail. I would really apreciate it!   hello everyone. i am using slideshow2 by Aeron Glemann in a website.Does in generate the thumbnails or do i have to provide them?the images iam showing are coming from a cloud, and are passed to the slideshow in an array.the thumbs exist in the cloud. how can i pass them in the array if the show cannot create them? i have used the replace parameter with regex but it shows as thumbnails the full image and nothing happens when i alter the css properties for the thumbnails. the images are displayed. here is the line for the show creation: var myShow = new Slideshow('show', eval(res.value), { controller: true, height: 350,overlap: false, resize: false, hu: '',replace:[/^\S+.(gif|jpg|jpeg|png)$/,'t$1'],thumbnails: true, width: 600}); the value object contains the images from the cloud in format shown below: ['xx.jpg','yy.png',....] thank you very much for your time.

  I have often fought the urge to ask questions that I know aren't appropriate on SO, because I personally haven't come across another online group who's opinions I would trust as much. What sites do you frequent that you have found good participation from a smart group of people where you can ask questions that are related to software, but not programming problems? This community also has a vast depth of knowledge about things related to software like marketing, graphics/UI, running a small business, working in bad jobs, etc. that would greatly benefit everyone else. Where do we go to tap all that knowledge? On stackoverflow.uservoice.com there is a popular suggested feature to sanction, or add to SO, a place to hold discussions that aren't about specific programming questions. It seems that the suggestion has been denied in the past though.

• How to configure build numbers in Visual Studio to enable dll comparison

  Hi Everyone- I am building a C# solution in Visual Studio 2008 that has several projects and project dependencies. I am looking for a way to change dll version numbers ONLY when the code that builds the project changes. I currently use Beyond Compare to compare my locally built version to the production file system. The goal is to ONLY deploy updated dlls. I am using autoincrementing version numbers, and each time you open visual studio and do a build, all dll version numbers increment. The same goes for a full solution rebuild and when a different developer does a build and tries to deploy. Is there a way that i can configure Visual Studio to ONLY increment the build number based on changed file contents? Is there an add in that will do this?It seems a binary comparison of these files will also fail because of the different version numbers within the dlls. Does anyone know of a better tool compare only the contents of dlls?Thanks in advance.

Additionally, any of these numbers (and any preceding .) may be missing. So the following are valid and parse as: 1.23.456 = version 1, release 23, modification 456 1.23 = version 1, release 23, any modification 1.23.* = version 1, release 23, any modification 1.* = version 1, any release, any modification 1 = version 1, any release, any modification * = any version, any release, any modification But these are not valid: *.12 *123.1 12* 12.*.34 Can anyone provide me a not-too-complex regex to validate and retrieve the release, version and modification numbers? • ASP.Net Response Filter Clashing with SharePoint 2010 Publishing Site Defaults

  Hello everyone, I'm debugging an HttpModule with an ASP.NET response filter. This dynamically rewrites portions of rendered SharePoint WCM pages. The publishing pages render fine in SP2007 on both Server 2003 and Server 2008. However the equivalent pages fail to render in SP2010 B2 on Server 2008 R2 / IIS7. The following error is returned by ASP.NET: Post cache substitution is not compatible with modules in the IIS integrated pipeline that modify the response buffers. Either a native module in the pipeline has modified an HTTP_DATA_CHUNK structure associated with a managed post cache substitution callback, or a managed filter has modified the response. This error is consistent with KB #2014472. However: Caching is disabled for anonymous & authenticated access at the site collection level There do not appear to be any Substitution controls on either the master or layout page The IIS 7 settings are all stock default This is happening e.g. on /pages/default.aspx. It seems likely I'm missing something cache related...but what?

• Problem with StandardOutput stream in async mode.

  Hi everyone. I have a program that launches command line processes in async mode, using BeginOutputReadLine. My problem is that the .Exited event is triggered when there is still some .OutputDataReceived events being triggered. What I do in my .Exited event must happen only once all my .OutputDataReceived events are done, or I'll be missing some output. I looked in the Process class to see if anything could be useful to me, as to wait for the stream to be empty, but all I find is for sync mode only. Can any of you help? Thanx.

• Flowplayer: Clicking on the player forces is to reload.

  Hey everyone, I've got this damn annoying bug (or wrong setting) that makes the player reload whenever it's clicked. It's set to play when you click, so when you click it, it reloads. The circle begins.... The reloading only happens in Firefox. In Safari (and I assume Chrome), the video opens in its own window. Not ideal, but it still plays. • WPF data grid - Column Header not aligned with data rows

  Hi, I am using Datagrid in WPF. This is a very simple and basic implementation. I not using any styles. I created a simple datagrid : <dg:DataGrid x:Name="dg" > </dg:DataGrid> and populated it with data as: dg.ItemsSource = " H E L L O W O R L D!".Split(); Grid gets properly populated but the columnheader of the grid is drawn with some offset. Due to this my data and header are mis aligned. I tried searching for this over net but I haven't found anything. This seems to be a straightforward implementation which is working for everyone except me :(. Can anyone please tell me what might be going wrong? I have tried using different data sets and appyling some style to test this. Thanks in advance.

• Jquery broken by GetResponse (email marketing) web form script

  I'm working on a site that relies on quite a bit of javascript. The problem is, I'm not a javascript guru in the least. Yes, bit off more than I can chew, here. I'm using jquery for a spy effect, and use GetResponse for email signups. If I implement my GetResponse script, it breaks the area later in the page which depends on the jquery script. Pull the GetResponse script and it works just fine. Problem is, I need them both. ;) The trick, I suppose, is that the GetResponse script is actually another Jquery script, so it's getting called twice... Any help?   Hello everyone. I am trying to start a new project (asp.net MVC) and I would like to apply some DDD rules I've learned in these last few months. I don't know how to organize my solution though. I would like to use Nhibernate but I don't want to use Fluent Nhibernate cause it must be something like an experiment. I've seen some examples where people keep everything in the same project. Some others tend to create a different project for everything. Do you think I should differentiate the model and the repository or put it in the same project? • Why is there no music streaming API service?

  Apple has decided to kill lala.com. I loved that site. Now, everyone has to go back to paying $0.89+ for songs from Amazon, iTunes, etc. Lame. Rhapsody would be great, except there are no clients for Mac or Linux. They do have a web interface, buy it is nothing compared to lala's web 2.0y interface. What I just don't understand is, why is there no music API streaming service out there? Basically, developers could hook the service into any desktop or web app, and then users of the app could pay $x a month (like with Rhapsody) and play any amount of music, so long as their subscription is active. Why not? Lala streamed music to web browsers, so surely it could be as secure as lala is (was), preventing music theft.

  So I have two models, Person and Film where they're in a many to many relationship. My goal is to grab a film, and output the persons that have also appeared in at least 10 films. For example I can get the count individually by: >>> Person.objects.get(short__istartswith = "Matt Damon").film_set.count() 71 However, if I try to filter all the actors of a particular film out: >>> Film.objects.get(name__istartswith="Saving Private Ryan").actors.all().annotate(film_count=Count('film')).filter(film_count__gte=10) [] it returns an empty set since if I manually look at everyone's film_count it's 1, even though an actor such as Matt Damon (as seen above) has been in 71 films in my db. As you can see with this query, the annotation doesn't work: >>> Film.objects.get(name__istartswith="Saving Private Ryan").actors.all().annotate(film_count=Count('film'))[0].film_count 1 >>> Film.objects.get(name__istartswith="Saving Private Ryan").actors.all().annotate(film_count=Count('film'))[0].film_set.count() 7 and I can't seem to figure out a way to filter it by the film_set.count()

• SharePoint Lookup Field 20 Item JS error

  Hi Everyone, I've got an issue with SharePoint Server 2007 SP1 which seems to be documented in various forms, but I haven't been able to find an answer to my seemingly simpler question. http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointcustomization/thread/040533d2-c738-4ac2-b2d6-65a1602fa2d1 Essentially, we have a form with a lookup field to another SharePoint list. The lookup field has more than 20 items, and so SharePoint changes the type/behaviour of the field as per the standard behaviour. However, with my custom skin applied, clicking on this drop down causes a JS error from within the Core.js file, as described here: http://splitnut.blogspot.com/2009/06/lookup-fields-in-moss-javascript-error.html What I haven't been able to figure out is why this is only an issue when my custom master page is applied, and not the OOTB master pages. I've been through and tried to see what might cause this, but haven't been able to track down the cause of the behaviour. Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

• SetSel on EN_SETFOCUS or WM_SETFOCUS doesn't work

  I've ran into next mystic thing in Winapi/MFC, I have an edit box, contents of which I have to select on Tab, Lclick, Rclick, Mclick and so on. The sort of obvious path is to handle the SETFOCUS message and call SetSel(0, -1), which should select all text. But it doesn't work! What's wrong? I tried googling, everyone seems to override Lclilks or handle SetSel in parent windows, but this is wrong from encapsulation point of view, also multiple clicks (user wants to insert something in the middle of the text) will break, and so on. Why isn't my approach working, I tried like 10 different ways, tried to trap all possible focus messages, looked up info on MSDN, but nothing works as expected. Also, I need to recreate the carret on focus, which also doesn't seem to work. SETFOCUS message gets trapped alright. If I add __asm int 3, it breaks every time. It's the create carret and setsel that gets swallowed it seems.

• gcc std=gnu++0x option

  Hi everyone, I need to compile a C++ code that uses std=gnu++0x option to the g++ compiler in the Makefile.am , As this option is compatible only with gcc 4.3 and above, the build crashes on my machine where i have gcc 4.2. What are my alternatives ? I tried removing that option from the Makefile.am but that reports some other error. Do i need to install gcc 4.3 or above? How can I do it in ubuntu hardy through apt-get ? Thanks.

• How do i redirect to a GET request from a POST request on GAE

  Hello everyone, i am writing an FBML app on facebook hosted in GAE. Facebook will talk to your hosted app only vai POST (im sure this is the cause, but please do correct me if i'm wrong). So im faced with the issue that inside of my POST method, i need to redirect to facebook OAuth authroize URL. But i can only send a GET request. How can i do that? At the moment i'm doing class OauthHandler(webapp.RequestHandler): def post(self): # blablablab request.redirect(oauth_uri) Which is wrong since the oauth_uri is only responding to GET. Further more, OAuth will redirect back to my redirect handler through GET, but i cant! i can only do post. So i'm confused. ideas? Thanks in advance
