• friendly url in categories

  Hi to all, i am trying to use friendly url for my categories. Example Database cat_id | parent_id | name | url 1 0 cat1 cat1 2 1 cat2 cat2 My approach to do is to pass the parameter cat with url value for example show.php?cat=cat1 and in .htaccess i must rewrite to /cat1 BUT what about when i want to access cat2. I want to rewrite as cat1/cat2 so the parameter is show.php?cat=cat1/cat2 and then parse the value to secure that cat2 belong to cat1. And so on. I am not using MVC so i have to do it on my own. Please if any other solutions is better please advice or suggest me reading Thank in advance.

• Drawing Directed Acyclic Graphs: Minimizing edge crossing?

  Laying out the verticies in a DAG in a tree form (i.e. verticies with no in-edges on top, verticies dependent only on those on the next level, etc.) is rather simple without graph drawing algorithms such as Efficient Sugimiya. However, is there a simple algorithm to do this that minimizes edge crossing? (For some graphs, it may be impossible to completely eliminate edge crossing.) A picture says a thousand words, so is there an algorithm that would suggest: instead of: EDIT: As the picture suggests, a vertex's inputs are always on top and outputs are always below, which is another barrier to just pasting in an existing layout algorithm.

• Mail merge from Java

  Hi all, Does anyone have any experience with doing mail merge from Java on a word document? I need to support both doc and docx formats. I have heard of Apache POI and docx4j. However, from reading around I'm sure how good the word support is in POI. docx4j only supports docx format as far as I can see. Can any suggest either one of the above (and correct my knowledge on support) or another appropriate library. If necessary I would be willing to use one lib for doc and another for docx. Thanks.

  I am trying to learn the following things: How mp3 file looks like internally? I found this: http://mpgedit.org/mpgedit/mpeg_format/MP3Format.html but it seems old. Is there any recent changes to the format? I couldnt find any. How to open a mp3 file in java and look for bytes? I tried using audiostream but I am getting a lot of zeros and signed short integers which nowhere resemble the header/body format as mentioned in the above link. Am I wrong in interpreting the bytes? How to get amplitude, frequency and pitch of a mp3 file? No idea. Can you please suggest some book or tutorial? Can you please help me in getting the solution for the above questions? I am sorry if some questions appear to be naive, I am a just begun to learn mp3. Thanks

• Socket Select with empty fd set

  Hi; Suppose you have an fd set which can have zero or more sockets in it. When I try to call select operation on empty fd set, what I get is -1 as the number of fds which are set, meaning error. So what would you suggest to overcome this problem, you might say do not call if empty but I have a loop and any time fd set can hold 0 or more sockets. What is the best approach about this problem? (we are on C programming language)

• How to write async background workers that work on WPF flowdocument

  I'm trying to write a background worker that processes a flowdocument. I can't access the properties of flowdocument objects because of the thread verification. I tried to serialize the document and loaded it on the worker thread which actually solved the thread verfication issue. However, once the processing is complete I also need to use things like TextPointer objects. Those objects now point to a objects in the copy not the original. Can anyone suggest the best way to approach such background processing in WPF?

• Prepending items in serialscroll

  Hi, I am using serialscroll plugin for jquery by Ariel Flesler. I am trying to make the vertical scroller to have continues loop without reverting back to first item (which is default functionality). To have continues loop of items i tried to append the items which is working fine and able to achieve when i click on "NEXT". However problem seems to be with "Previous" link where i am trying to prepend the items at the top, it is pending the items however changing the visible items. I understand that prepending the items is causing the index of items to change which is normal. So what i am looking for it to keep showing the visible items even when prepending. • Whats the best way to stop this app crash when buttons rapidly pressed iphone obj-c

  Hi, I'm not entirely sure why this crash is happening and I'd like to get advice on the best way to deal with it. My app has 3 buttons. Each button requests a different XML file from a server which is used to populate a table view. If I rapidly press the buttons in sequence , button 1 button 2 button3 button 1 button 2 button3 button 1 button 2 button3 the application quits. What could be causing this. Would id be in the NSURLRequest side of things or the table view population side? How would you suggest I stop this behaviour? I was going to just set a boolean "isRequesting" to true when a button is pressed and set it to false when the table view is finished populating. If any button is pressed while isRequesting is True they do nothing. Does that sound wise or is there a better way? Thanks, dub

  which is the best tool for this - Automation of signup process to a website , e.g an email signup The tool should be able to take data from an external data file like an excel of csv file this data file would contain data such as first name , last name , username, password etc. basic data required during an email signup . I am imagining the data file to contain of each field in a seperate column and each row to contain data for different registration / user. At the places where manual intervention is required like image verification etc. the tool should be able to pause the script until manual bit is done then continue with the script. What is the best way to do this - an automation tool , or any scripting language - please suggest .

  Can anyone suggest some good materials for learning more about the Linux filesystem and command line? I have found myself frequently confused as to what programs go where on the Linux filesystem. I would like to learn how the various directories (var, etc, usr ...) are used and how to use the commandline more effectively. I come from the Windows development world (.NET developer) so I am very familiar with Windows system administration. However, when doing more and more work with PHP I found myself lost in the internals of Linux (specifically Ubuntu). For example I was having problems installing PEAR properly on my Ubuntu system and not understanding why it was installed where it was. All of my interactions with Linux machines is done via SSH so I would like to focus on the command line and the filesystem. Thanks for any suggestions.

  Hi! I'm using an object of JTextArea in my application which deals with sending sms. I've used a DocumentFilter so as to allow only 160 characters to be typed in the textarea but now, I want the size of the textarea to be constant. it goes on increasing if I keep writing on the same line without pressing 'enter' key or even when I keep on pressing only 'enter' key. I tried once using 'scrollbar' too but the problem remains same. Suggest me something over this.

I think it does the job of eliminating leading and trailing whitespaces however, I wish the code could be cleaner.   Hi, I have a site thats served in 2 flavours, English and French. Here's some code app/views/user/register.html.erb ----------------- <% form_for .....> <%= f.text_field :first_name %> <% end %> app/models/user.rb ------------------ class User < ActiveRecord::Base validates_presence_of :first_name end Now to display the error message in case if the site is being served in the French version, I have app/config/locales/fr.yml ------------------------- activerecord: errors: messages: empty: "ne peut pas être vide" So if someone does not fill in a first name, the validator takes the name of the field and appends the custom message for empty clause giving "First name ne peut pas être vide" which is incorrect, coz 'First name' in French is 'Prénom', hence it should be "Prénom ne peut pas être vide" Please can someone suggest a way of achieving the desired result.

In my visualization, the orange tags are supposed to be listed vertically in the middle. The gray tags should be at different distances (according to stored numeric values).   I want to do some kind of image editor, after I upload more images I want to make a list with all the thumbnails! After, I want to be able to click on one thumb and rotate, duplicate, drag and drop (to change positions of the images), and delete the image. I want all the images to be in a php array. If an image is deleted I want to delete the row from array too. If a image is drag-and-dropped I want to change the position in the array too. Ok, after the user uploads all the images and modifies some of them, how can I make a DONE button to save the positions of the images? For this small project how do you suggest I save the images? (to make a table in mysql and store the names of the images in the database depending on the session id? depending on the IP?) Any suggestions are welcome!

• Using psftp to upload and download files

  Hello I am trying to upload and download files from my desktop to my server. Now after some search I did download psftp. I used to use filezilla earlier, but I cannot install it on my desktop due to a few reasons. Since psftp (similar to putty) is just an executable for file transfer. So now after going through this link http://www.math.tamu.edu/~mpilant/math696/psftp.html. I understood that put and get are two commands I would use to download and upload files. Now when I logon to the server and say get filename, it actually is throwing back an error "local: unable to open filename". I tried that with other files too, and I end up getting the same error. Am I making a mistake or is it a problem with this executable? I did not find relevant tags for this topic, could somebody suggest me the right forum for this issue.

• How do I generate different yyparse functions from lex/yacc for use in the same program?

  Hi, I want to generate two separate parsing functions from lex/yacc. Normally yacc gives you a function yyparse() that you can call when you need to do some parsing, but I need to have several different yyparses each associated with different lexers and grammars. The man page seems to suggest the -p (prefix) flag, but this didn't work for me. I got errors from gcc that indicated that yylval was not properly being relabeled (i.e. it claims that several different tokens are not defined). Does anyone know the general rpocedure for generating these separate functions? thanks

• How to link static libs (archives) to an empty dynamic lib with gcc4

  Greetings all! I'm using gcc on linux to create a shared library. The library itself has no code but links to a couple of static libraries(archives) also built using gcc. I need to export the static libs' symbols through my shared library. What happens is that the resulting shared lib is too small and it actually does not contain any of the symbols provided by the static libs mentioned above. I also tried with a map of exported symbols but that did not help at all. Could any of you suggest a solution! 10x in advance

• Using HTTP status codes to reflect success/failure of Web service request?

  I'm implementing a Web service that returns a JSON-encoded payload. If the service call fails -- say, due to invalid parameters -- a JSON-encoded error is returned. I'm unsure, however, what HTTP status code should be returned in that situation. On one hand, it seems like HTTP status codes are for HTTP: even though an application error is being returned, the HTTP transfer itself was successful, suggesting a 200 OK response. On the other hand, a RESTful approach would seem to suggest that if the caller is attempting to post to a resource, and the JSON parameters of the request are invalid somehow, that a 400 Bad Request is appropriate. I'm using Prototype on the client side, which has a nice mechanism for automatically dispatching to different callbacks based on HTTP status code (onSuccess and onFailure), so I'm tempted to use status codes to indicate service success or failure, but I'd be interested to hear if anyone has opinions or experience with common practice in this matter. • LINQ method chaining and granular error handling

  I have a method which can be written pretty neatly through method chaining: return viewer.ServerReport.GetParameters() .Single(p => p.Name == Convention.Ssrs.RegionParamName) .ValidValues .Select(v => v.Value); However I'd like to be able to do some checks at each point as I wish to provide helpful diagnostics information if any of the chained methods returns unexpected results. To achieve this, I need to break up all my chaining and follow each call with an if block. It makes the code a lot less readable. Ideally I'd like to be able to weave in some chained method calls which would allow me to handle unexpected outcomes at each point (e.g. throw a meaningful exception such as new ConventionException("The report contains no parameter") if the first method returns an empty collection). Can anyone suggest a simple way to achieve such a thing?
