• Collision Resolution

  I know quite well how to check for collisions, but I don't know how to handle the collision in a good way. Simplified, if two objects collide I use some calculations to change the velocity direction. If I don't move the two objects they will still overlap and if the velocity is not big enough they will still collide after next update. This can cause objects to get stuck in each other. But what if I try to move the two objects so they do not overlap. This sounds like a good idea but I have realised that if there is more than two objects this becomes very complicated. What if I move the two objects and one of them collides with other objects so I have to move them too and they may collide with walls etc. I have a top down 2D game in mind but I don't think that has much to do with it. • How do I set up multi seat?

  Hi I was hoping to have a 2 seat setup. One will be for my TV just going to run Boxee. The other is for my main Desktop. I've been looking for a good guide to help me navigate this, I'd like to use ubuntu 10.10. I am assuming it's just a case of getting a box + 2 graphics adaptors and 2 usb mice and keyboards, one of which will be bluetooth for the TV. I can't seem to find much documentation on this idea. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Also I am assuming that this is all possible with a standard ubuntu install, but with some additional configuration. • Best resources to learn Game Development from a Java background?

  Hi guys, I'm an enterprise Java programmer, however something I've been interested in and what got me into the whole programming thing was the idea of being able to create a game. Just wondering if anybody could offer any advice, or book recommendations. The side I am most interested in is game engine design and implementation. People may say "ahh but plenty exist why write your own" - its purely for learning purposes, seeing how things work and so on. So far I've taken a look at LWJGL, but achieved nothing too serious. Thanks.

• XNA Diffuse Shader Issue. Edge lighting problem. Image Attached

  As you can see in this image the diffuse shading is working correctly in some places but in other places such as the the bottom of the sphere you can see the squares/triangles of the mesh. Any idea what would be causing this? Let me know if you need anymore information related to code. I can upload my normals calculations and shader effect if required. Can't seem to see where I'm going wrong with the normals calculations though.

• Java web UI framework like ASP.NET MVC?

  I'm doing some web apps for personal projects that might be shared out with my friends. I'm trying to use skills that will help me at work, but don't have $$ to spend on Visual Studio right now and don't want to try to cobble something together with Express Editions. Since I've been sort of wanting to bring my Java skills up to date and the main skills I want to work on are design and architecture skills, this isn't a big deal - except that I have no idea how to track down the right UI framework. I know I want something based on MVC, to get more practice with frameworks for that design pattern (we're using ASP .NET MVC2 at work). The UIs that I'll be making will be pretty simple - data entry, buttons, text, images. They will need AJAX. Any thoughts about which frameworks to look at? I'll be watching the comments, if anyone wants additional clarification on what I'm looking for.

• Google webmaster tools / Geographic location settings

  I am building an website. It has an .nl domain. Now only my domain is showing up on google.nl I hope I can change this somehow that it could be findable in all google's (like google.com / co.uk) and so on. If I look on google forums. They say go to webmaster tools and change your geographic position over there. But I have added this site and I am not able to change it there because there is no select box. I dont have any idea were to search (yes I searched on google offcourse) or where to ask for this special problem. So maybe here can someone redirect me or explain me what is possible and what not. • Solving 2D Collision Detection Issues with Relative Velocities

  Imagine you have a situation where two objects are moving parallel to one-another and are both within range to collide with a static wall, like this: A common method used in dynamic collision detection is to loop through all objects in arbitrary order, solve for pair-wise collision detection using relative velocities, and then move the object to the nearest collision, if any. However, in this case, if the red object is checked first against the blue one, it would see that the relative velocity to the blue object is -20 m/s (and would thereby not collide this time frame). Then it would see that the red object would collide with the static wall, and the solution would be: And the red object passes through the blue one. So it appears to be a matter of choosing the right order in which you check collisions; but how can you determine which order is correct? How can this passing through of objects be avoided? Is ignoring relative velocity and considering every object as static during pair-wise checks a better idea for this reason?

In option menu,,have a list which operatg system i can choose between ubuntu n window7 but the list stil have another menu for ubuntu..i make mistake to choose the another list of ubuntu..and now i have to fix the command line that have grub rescue.. like this : error : no such partition grub rescue > i dont have any idea to fix this problem..i try the another step that i see at the other question but still dont have any answer..this problem is just i enter the another list but do not have any kernel,problem or somethg like that..

• How to un-fullscreen an application on your secondary monitor in 11.10

  Nvidia twinview wasn't working for me very well so I uninstalled it and started using the nouveau driver, since then my dual monitors are working properly. With 11.10 the panel has changed. It appears on my main monitor only, along with the unity bar. When I have an application full screened the panel acts as the file menu, along with max, min, and close options. However I'm noticing when I have something full screened on my secondary monitor (where there is no panel) I have no way of un-fullscreening it. The panel on the main monitor do not show any options when that window is selected. This is okay for some apps like my web browser that has these buttons in it anyway, but I fullscreened Banshee and now it's stuck there... Any idea on how to un-fullscreen something in this situation?

• Why ISO master (editor) does not read Windows images

  I have the followjng problem with ISO master software: I try to edit WIndows 7 ISO image $ isomaster windows7.iso The file does open, unfortunately all I get is README with message: This disc contains a "UDF" file system and requires an operating system that supports the ISO-13346 "UDF" file system specification. isomaster comes form Ubuntu repository, I am using 12.04. The system has kernel support for UDF installed, I can mount above ISO (mount -o loop) and see its content read only. Any idea how to fix it? Using other than isomaster tool is also an option. • 2D Grid based game - how should I draw grid lines?

  I'm playing around with a 2D grid based game idea, and I am using sprites for the grid cells. Let's say there is a 10 x 10 grid and each cell is 48x48, which will have sprites drawn there. That is fine. But in design mode, I'd like to have a grid overlay the screen. I can do this either with sprites (2x600 pixel image etc) or with primitives, but which is best? Should I really be switching between sprites and 3d/2d rendering? Like so: Thanks!

• 12.04 scanner works fine as super-user but is not recognised as a normal user

  I have an all-in-one printer Epson SX130, wich I have just tried to install. I got the printer working with no problem, but I couldn't set the scanner up. I have had another all-in-one printer before (Brother DCP-125C), and had just the same problem, so I decided to try the same trick I used to do then, running the scanning program as super-user: $sudo simple-scan and $ sudo xsane Once again, it worked just fine, and I could use the scanner. Anyhow, this solution is a little annoying, because I also have to change the permissions to the files I get scanning like this. I have been searching the internet for solutions and got to know this must have something to do with user groups permissions, but couldn't find a satisfying solution. Is there anyone with an idea? Thank you in advance.

  I have this website natural-track.com and when I do a cache check I get a completely different website,This is Google's cache of http://www.backpackers-planet.com/modules.php?name=Web_Links&l_op=visit&lid=3379 , unrelated to my site. I have checked with the host, they say all is well on their side. How can we fix it? The site also went off from Google Search. • Recover files from a SATA drive from USB

  I've damaged the drive I had in my windows laptop and now I want to try to recover as many files as possible. I know very little about linux though. I have Ubuntu 10.04. I have a docking station for the drive and it is connected to my linux machine. The drive appears in disk utility. Unfortunately, this is where I have no idea where to proceed. • How to get feedback on mobile application

  I am relatively new to programming. I have been programming with Java and Android for about 2 years now and just recently released my first app to the Google Play app store. I have passed the word on to everyone I know and posted a few times on Facebook about it. But I am not really seeing anyone install them. I love to code I'm not looking to have the next big time app, but it would be nice to get some installs and feedback/ratings so I can get an idea of how well its doing and if there are any fixes or improvements I can make. I thought about doing an AdMob campaign a couple times here and there at about $10 to $20 per day. But I'm not sure if that will generate any kind of worthwhile feedback.   I have a blog that targets different regions. The Europe region blog has different sections in different local languages such as English, French and German. I wonder how to track and analyze the different sections. My initial thought is to search the domain URL, but I found it is not a good idea. For example, the URL for the Europe blog is like www.myblog.com/europe. If you click the French section, the URL is like www.myblog.com/europe/language/french. If you click an article in the French section, it is like www.myblog.com/article_name. Notice the article link is not www.myblog.com/language/french/article_name!

  I've been setting up debug tags for automated testing of a GWT-based web application. This involves turning on custom debug id tags/attributes for elements in the source of the app. It's a non-trivial task, particularly for larger, more complex web applications. Recently there's been some discussion of whether enabling such debug ids is a good idea to do across the board. Currently the debug ids are only turned on in development and testing servers, not in production. There have been points raised that enabling debug ids does cause performance to take a hit, and that debug ids in production may lead to security issues. What are benefits of doing this? Are there any significant risks for turning on debug tags in production code?

• 2D wave-like sprite movement XNA

  I'm trying to create a particle that will 'circle' my character. When the particle is created, it's given a random position in relation to my character, and a box to provide boundaries for how far left or right this particle should circle. When I use the phrase 'circle', I'm referring to a simulated circling, i.e., when moving to the right, the particle will appear in front of my character, when passing back to the left, the particle will appear behind my character. That may have been too much context, so let me cut to the chase: In essence, the path I would like my particle to follow would be akin to a sine wave, with the left and right sides of the provided rectangle being the apexes of the wave. The trouble I'm having is that the position of the particle will be random, so it will never be produced at the same place within the wave twice, but I have no idea how to create this sort of behavior procedurally.

• Handling different screen densities in Android Devices?

  Well, i know there are plenty of different-sized screens in devices that run Android. The SDK I code with deploys to all major desktop platforms and android. I am aware i must have special cares to handle the different screen sizes and densities, but i just had an idea that would work in theory, and my question is exactly about that method, How could it FAIL ? So, what I do is to have an ortho camera of the same size for all devices, with possible tweaks, but anyway that would grant the proper positioning of all elements in all devices, right? We can assume everything is drawn in OpenGLES and input handling is converted to the proper camera coordinates. If you need me to improve the question, please tell me.
