• Objective-C method implementation nuances

  I have just started to develop for the iPhone and am in the process of learning Objective-C. I have seen some code that implements a method in the @implementation side of a class like this: -(void)myMethod; { // method body } What makes this interesting is that there is no mention of myMethod in the @interface for the class. I tried a sample project with this and when I compile I get a warning from XCode that myMethod may not be seen by the calling code. Can anyone tell me what is going on? Thanks!

Are there any real differences beyond compile time checking for an argument specified as intent(inout) and an argument without a specified intent? Is there anything I should worry about if I'm retrofitting intents to older, intent free, code?

• actionscript flex, how to send browser width to the swf itself

  I'm working with flex, but actionscript ideas are just as good. The flex <s:Application> tag has height="100%" width="100%" so the swf fits the browser as the browser gets resized. My problem is that I have a <s:Label> that I need to position based on the real/current size of the browser. <s:Application height="100%" width="100%"> ..... <s:Label text="hello" x="?" y=">" /> </s:Application> I heard it's possible to use Application.application.width; but I get a compile error, that it doesn't know what that is. Any ideas how to do this. I'm trying to get the current size of the swf in the browser, as the browser resizes.

• Jabber .net rostertree error

  Hi, Whenever I add the rostertree control to my form, I can see that the PresenceManager and RosterManager property values for it have this error listed: "Unable to cast object of type 'System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewTextBoxColumn' to type 'System.ComponentModel.Component'." I can compile the solution and all but this error keeps popping up randomly. Can someone advice when this may happen. I'm thinking it has to do with the controls not being added properly. I'm using Visual Studio 2008. Thanks.

  Hello all, When I mix JSTL 1.0 and JSTL 1.1 taglib declarations, it causes a ParseException on some of my servers, but not all of them. I understand that you don't know how my servers or CMS are set up, but really, what I'm looking for is ideas. Any ideas at all would help -- this problem has been driving me absolutely batty. Even if you don't know what could be causing the problem, if you have any suggestions at all for how I could approach the problem, that would be extremely helpful. I just don't understand what could cause this difference in behavior between my servers.   Hi, in the Winsock2 library getaddrinfo() and freeaddrinfo() was only added in Windows XP and on. I know how to replace them in legacy systems, but a conditional use depending on the Windows version won't help. The application won't start in 9x with a message saying that it was linked to a missing export in WS2_32.dll. I'm using MinGW to compile and link the code and would like to keep using it. Maybe writing those functions by myself? Thank you very much for everything.

• developing iphone apps on windows is it worth the hassel

  I'm only after a simple solution and won't be developing anything particularly complex. But I'm wondering whether the hassals of developing an iPhone app NOT on MacOS are really that significant to avoid giving it a shot. Bearing in mind that I do have access to a mac every now and again. So I would be able to compile it using the official Apple supported SDK, but I just want to be able to develop it in my own environment (windows laptop). I heard someone mention a while ago that there are various objective C compilers that allow writing code in various other web technologies as well. Are these really valid. And am I alone in thinking Apple's whole attitude towards this is totally imoral. Charging $200 for the privelege of having your app unequivocally rejected etc etc and then not being allowed to look directly at Steve Jobs or his golden retrievers.

• Invoking MSYS bash from Windows cmd

  I'm using GCC on Windows7 (using the TDM's build). I installed MSYS to be able to execute make and compile using makefiles. However, it is tedious to every time start up the MSYS bash shell, navigate to the directory of the project and run make. What I want is to automate this process. I prefer to have a batch file in Windows, or something similar, from which I then invoke the MSYS bash. It should navigate to the directory the batch file resides in and call "make". Is this possible? Can I send commands to MSYS bash from cmd (like navigation / invoking make)? Or can I let the MSYS bash run a "bash script", which sets the commands to be executed much like batch scripts? Thank you.   I currently have a 32-bit .Net application (on x86 Windows) which require lots of memory. Recently it started throwing System.OutOfMemoryException's. So, I am planning to move it to a x64 platform as 64-bit process. So will this help with the out of memory exceptions. I was reading this article from MSDN Memory limits for Windows So, my question is if I compile a 64bit .Net application, will it have IMAGE_FILE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE set as default (As the article suggests)? i.e will I be able to take advantage of the 8GB user-mode virtual address space?

• Handling changes in an interface shared across multiple solutions?

  Our "main" solution is the development code: shared libraries, services, UI projects, etc. The other solution is an integration and automated tests solution. It references several of the development projects. The reason it is separate is to avoid interference with the development solution's unit test VSMDI file. And to allow us to play with different execution methods (other test runners, like Gallio or StoryTeller) without interfering with the development solution. Recently, an interface changed in the development solution, one of our test mocks implemented that interface. But, it was not updated because there was no warning at compile time because it was in another solution. This broke our CI build. Does anyone have a similar setup? How do you handle these issues, do you follow a strict procedure or is there some kind of technical answer?

  Hi. So after writhing a large .tex file and using many packages I want to archive everything. Not just the .tex .jpg files but also the .sty files. This is because sometimes some options in the sty files are changed, and then I can't compile the file. The "problem" is that in using Ubuntu, I already installed all the packages in my system. • Anyone have an XSL to convert Boost.Test XML logs to a presentable format?

  I have some C++ projects running through cruisecontrol.net. As a part of the build process, we compile and run Boost.Test unit test suites. I have these configured to dump XML log files. While the format is similar to JUnit/NUnit, it's not quite the same (and lacks some information), so cruisecontrol.net is unable to pick them up. I am wondering if anyone has created (or knows of) an existing XSL transform that will convert Boost.Test results to JUnit/NUnit format, or alternatively, directly to a presentable (html) format. • How to structure Python package that contains Cython code

  I'd like to make a Python package containing some Cython code. I've got the the Cython code working nicely. However, now I want to know how best to package it. For most people who just want to install the package, I'd like to include the .c file that Cython creates, and arrange for setup.py to compile that to produce the module. Then the user doesn't need Cython installed in order to install the package. But for people who may want to modify the package, I'd also like to provide the Cython .pyx files, and somehow also allow for setup.py to build them using Cython (so those users would need Cython installed). How should I structure the files in the package to cater for both these scenarios? The Cython documentation gives a little guidance. But it doesn't say how to make a single setup.py that handles both the with/without Cython cases.

  Hi, I am trying to create a Custom QGraphicsItem button as shown by Fred here. The code which he posted can be found here. The problem is when I try and compile the code I get the following two errors: /usr/include/qt4/QtGui/qgraphicsitem.h ‘QGraphicsItem::QGraphicsItem(const QGraphicsItem&)’ is private /usr/include/qt4/QtCore/qobject.h ‘QObject::QObject(const QObject&)’ is private Here is the code snippet which essentially is the same as that in the sample above. The error is on the class deceleration. class MyButton : public QObject, public QGraphicsItem { Q_OBJECT Q_INTERFACES(QGraphicsItem) public: MyButton(QGraphicsItem *parent = 0); MyButton(const QString normal, const QString pressed = "", QGraphicsItem *parent = 0); .... } Interestingly the other sample as shown here works fine. I want to do it using a lambda expression. I am aware what I typed above will compile and will bring back all Persons matching the search criteria with their addresses and each addresses' mailbox eager loaded, but it's in a string which irritates me.   I have followed the tutorial at Scala and Android with Scala 2.7.3 final. The resulting Android App works but even the most basic application takes several minutes (!) to compile and needs 900 kb compressed, which is a show stopper for mobile applications. Additionally, the IDE runs out of memory every now and then. I assume dex is not made for big libraries like the scala-library. So my question is: Has anyone actually done this and is there any cure for this?

  I'm very new to python, as i'm embedding it (in form of a static lib) in an ios project. It's not possible for me to dynamically load python modules, so i would like to compile my modules along with python. For modules shipped with the python source this works (by modifying setup.py or Module/Setup), but when i downloaded a third party module i noticed, i don't fully understand the mechanism. The modules shipped with python come with a .c file in the Modules dir as well as a .py file in the Lib dir. My third party module just comes with .py files. 1.Why do those modules have different file extensions? 2.How to integrate a module coming with .py files in an embedded python version? Obviously pasting them in Modules/Setup does require some .c files. 3.Do these .c files have something to do with the Python C-Api? I guess i'm missing something essential :) Help is much appreciated.

  I'm doing simple divisions in c#, and I am a bit puzzled by its intricacies. Here's some code, and in the comments, the result. (btw, I only compile with 1 line not commented, if you say that I have 5 declarations of the same variable) double result = 2 / 3; //gives 0 double result = Convert.ToDouble(2) / Convert.ToDouble(3); // is good double result = double.Parse(2) / double.Parse(3); // gives me errors double result = double.Parse(2 / 3); // gives me errors double result = Convert.ToDouble(2 / 3); // gives 0 MessageBox.Show(result.ToString()); so if you have a bunch of integers you wanna mess with, you have to convert each one to a double. pretty tedious...

• Approaches to use Repositories (w/ StructureMap) with AutoMapper?

  Any idea how I can tell AutoMapper to resolve a TypeConverter constructor argument using StructureMap? ie. We have this: private class GuidToContentProviderConverter : TypeConverter<Guid, ContentProvider> { private readonly IContentProviderRepository _repository; public GuidToContentProviderConverter(IContentProviderRepository repository) { _repository = repository; } protected override ContentProvider ConvertCore(Guid contentProviderId) { return _repository.Get(contentProviderId); } } And in the AutoMap registration: Mapper.CreateMap<Guid, ContentProvider>().ConstructUsing<GuidToContentProviderConverter>(); However, this generates a compile-time error about ctor args. Any ideas? Or ideas to other approaches for using Automapper to hydrate domain objects from viewmodel ID's using a repository?
