• Symbols taking very, very long time to load when hosting ASP.NET app in IIS

  Hi, I'm hosting my project using IIS, running from Visual Studio. Whenever I recompile, on the first run it takes several minutes (on a not awful machine) to load all the symbols. Please see http://joshz.com/so/symbols.html for a list of the symbols that are loaded. At the bottom there is a ThreadAbortException, I'm not sure if this is playing a role. Any advice would be greatly appreciated; it's slowing my day down enormously! As a note: the project has never run quickly since I joined the company and started working with it.

• Navigate with location.href during XMLHttpRequest asynchronous call

  I have a web page containing something like this: <div onclick="location.href = 'AnotherPage';"> This page also uses asynchronous XMLHttpRequests for some ajax updating. I have found that while an asynchronous XMLHttpRequest is in progress, clicking on this div does not load the new page. If I cancel my request first then it works fine. This seems wrong, but I cannot find any documentation that describes what should happen. So the question is: what should happen to asynchronous XMLHttpRequests in progress when a new page is loaded using location.href?

• Authlogic::ControllerAdapters::RailsAdapter::AuthlogicLoadedTooLateError

  Authlogic is trying to prepend a before_filter in ActionController::Base to active itself, the problem is that ApplicationController has already been loaded meaning the before_filter won't get copied into your application. Generally this is due to another gem or plugin requiring your ApplicationController prematurely, such as the resource_controller plugin. The solution is to require Authlogic before these other gems / plugins. Please require authlogic first to get rid of this error. (Authlogic::ControllerAdapters::RailsAdapter::AuthlogicLoadedTooLateError) I had installed radiant 0.9.rc2, extension reader and required gem Authologic So while running script/server on ubuntu 9.04 i am receiving the above error Any Suggestion, Thanx in advance

• Set Java Application's virtual machine max memory without access to VM parameters because of custom

  I'm using a Java application which allows you to import custom files. On import, these files are loaded into memory. The problem is that the files I want to import are very big, this causes an OutOfMemory exception. The crash log also informs me that the VM was started with the java parameter "-Xmx512m", I want to alter this to "-Xmx1024m" so that I got double the memory available. The problem is that this application is using it's own JRE folder and that there's a launcher written in C which is calling the jvm.dll file. In any way, java.exe or javaw.exe are never called and thus I cannot set these parameters myself (if I delete these executables it doesn't matter, can still run the application - this is not the case with the dll). So, my question is, can I set this VM parameter in an other way? I'm even willing to alter the JRE files if there is no other way.

  Hey guys, I'm currently thinking about caching most of my viewdata excpt user specific data after a user logs on. I thought the simplest way was caching the ViewData object itself and adding the user specific data after it was loaded. Are there any downsides of this approach? • Dealing with HTTP content in HTTPS pages

  We have a site which is accessed entirely over HTTPS, but sometimes display external content which is HTTP (images from RSS feeds, mainly). The vast majority of our users are also stuck on IE6. I would both of the following Prevent the IE warning message about insecure content Present something useful to users in place of the images that they can't otherwise see; if there was some JS I could run to figure out which images haven't been loaded and replace them with an image of ours instead that would be great. I suspect that the first aim is simply not possible, but the second may be sufficient. A worst case scenario is that I parse the RSS feeds when we import them, grab the images store them locally so that the users can access them that way, but it seems like a lot of pain for reasonably little gain.

• NSUserDefaults and default language used for I18N

  I have searched around a lot for this and found some answers that sounded quite like what I wanted but never worked. I simply need to have my iPhone app load NIBs and Localizable.strings that I decide (through user selection) rather than the ones that are established through the global iPhone/iPad settings. General consensus seems to be that this line [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] setObject:[NSArray arrayWithObject:@"ro"] forKey:@"AppleLanguages"]; would do the trick (in this specific case, load the NIBs and Localizable.strings in ro.lproj) but I have not had such luck. It keeps on looking for the files in en.lproj or whatever language I chose in the Settings app. I have then tried adding this line [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] setObject:[NSArray arrayWithObject:@"ro_RO"] forKey:@"AppleLocale"]; and to my great surprise, it worked! ...only once :-( then back to the same issue. Has anyone got any idea how to solve this issue? The aforementioned code was added at the very start of applicationDidFinishLaunching, which is before any NIBs or strings files should be loaded.

• Asp.net Site on GoDaddy Loads Slowly

  I just published a very small site to GoDaddy that I programmed in Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008. The site only contains 6 sheets, none of which are data intensive. Each has a few small images that serve mostly to navigate to the other sheets. There is no data, no SQL, nothing like that. There is one master page that governs the page layout for all of the pages. Everything works fine, for the most part. I am posting because the site loads quite slowly, particularly considering how little content is being loaded. Can anybody give me any advice about what I should look at to speed this thing up a little bit? Is this an asp.net issue? Use of master pages? Godaddy? Something else? I'm a newbie, so speak slowly.   Hello all, I'm trying to use youtube's api to bring back a listing of a user's videos. The request url looks something like: http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/users/username/uploads with 'username' being the correct username. This bring back the appropriate url in the browser.   Can someone please explain in easy terms what is static library linking vs dynamic library linking other one has a larger memory map than the other or that the static library is used to compile/link with the program that will use it versus being loaded at runtime? I also need to create a static library of a program that I made in vs2008 and give one function interface to access the library. one of the requirements reads as such " * API should be in the form of static library. company xxx will link the library into a third party application to prevent any possible exposure of the code(dll)" how can they say both static and dll at the same time.   I've written a small package for logging, I'm distributing it through r-forge, recently I received some very interesting feedback on how to make it easier to use, but this functionality is based on stuff (setRefClass) that was added to R in 2.12. I'd like to keep distributing the package also for R-2.9, so I'm looking for a way to include or exclude the S4 syntactical sugar automatically, and include it when the library is loaded on a R = 2.12 system. one other option I see, that is to write a small S4 package that needs 2.12, imports the simpler logging package and exports the syntactically sugared interface... I don't like it too much, as I'd need to choose a different name for the S4 package.

  I'm trying to learn about device drivers on Linux Kernel, for that I've created three modules with: A bus type A device driver A fake device that does nothing now, only is registered Everything works fine, I can load the bus, the driver and the module that creates the device. Everything appears on sysfs, including the link between the device and the device driver that indicates that they are binded. • Cannot play a recorded sound on device.

  I'm using the exact code from the iPhone Application Programming Guide Multimedia Support to use AVAudioRecorder to record a file to the disk and then AVAudioPlayer to load and play that file. This is working fine in the simulator but is not working on the device. The file gets loaded (we can see the NSTimeInterval) but does not play (play returns false). After it didn't work with the sample code from the website, we tried changing to a bunch of different codecs with no success. And of course, the sound is on. Thanks a bunch.

  I'm getting the message "The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document." I have a S#arp Architecture project (ASP.NET MVC v1) that has been opened and upgraded to be used in VS 2010. I can no longer debug the project. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate. I have IE set to be my default browser. I have the build set to debug. System.Web.Mvc is referenced in my project's lib dir. I've cleaned the solution. I've recompiled the solution. It's set to use .NET Framework 3.5. PDBs are being created and dropped into the bin directory with the DLLs. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  I've made a web application that has the following architecture: Every form is a UserControl, there is just one actual page (Default.aspx), and a parameter in the URL specifies which UserControl to load. The UserControl is loaded in an UpdatePanel so that it can enjoy full AJAX-iness. There is also an elaborate message displaying mechanism that I use. Eventually messages end up in one designated area on top of the Default.ASPX with some nice formatting 'n stuff. Now, I would also like to capture any unhandled exceptions that originate in the UserControl and display it in this area with all the bells-and-whistles that I've made for messages. How can I do this? The Page.Error and ScriptManager.AsyncPostBackError somehow don't work for me...

It works great, however I am worried about creating an ISession like this and just dropping it. Does it get properly registered with the SessionScope and will the scope properly tare my ISession down when it is disposed of? Or do I need to do more to manage it myself?

• Alternatives to ASCX User Control without a server-side form?

  I've got an ASP.NET 3.5 Web Forms application in which a large chunk of code needs to be duplicated between a few different pages. Sounds like the ideal candidate for a user-control right? Problem is, this cannot be contained within a <form runat="server"> because it contains a client-side form of it's own. There are no runat=server controls or postbacks or anything that really need that webform - think of it just as a chunk of HTML with a few basic <% %> tags. I'd just want to set a property on the control when it's loaded, so that it knows what to output. This is purely an exercise to make the code easier to maintain. Before I resort to using an oldskool <!--#include-->, is there some better way of doing this?

I have a table loaded with .DOCX files as varbinary(MAX) data that I want to use for a full-text catalog, but it doesn't seem to recognize the .DOCX format. Here are the steps that I've taken... • GMap in iframe gets off-center

  I have a Google Map (API 2) that used to work fine as a standalone page. However, when I load the map page within an iframe (with Thickbox), the map gets off-center: normally it's centered over Germany and in the iframe it centers on Iran, instead. How to make the map center correctly? My guesses: The problem can result from the iframe loading time. I guess, that the script calculates window size basing on the iframe size when it's still loading. • How to unmangle exported symbols from C++ in dynamic libraries in XCode on OSX

  I've been trying to develop a dynamic library in C++ that can be run-time loaded in an application. I finally got it working, but it's a little ugly. I have a function that takes a pointer to a C++ class as an argument, which looks like this: bool registerGrindPlugin( Grind::PluginManager* mgr ); But of course it's being exported as: _Z19registerGrindPluginPN5Grind13PluginManagerE I tried a .c file with a simple function and it exported fine as "registerGrindPlugin", but of course I can't pass a C++ class as the argument that way. Soo... my question is, is there a way to unmangle or alias the exported symbol so that I don't have to use a monstrosity like Z19registerGrindPluginPN5Grind13PluginManagerE in my dlsym call? I did see something about -alias_list as a linker option, but I haven't quite figured out how to use it in XCode. If that is the solution, can somebody provide some more details on how to use this?
