    Hello another stupid question regarding leaks and also NSURLConnection. How do i release it? Is it enough if i release in the following 2 methods? (void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didFailWithError:(NSError *)error (void)connectionDidFinishLoading:(NSURLConnection *)connection Because in instruments it shows me the line where I alloc my connection as the source of leaking. OK I don't get it. After the following code my urlConnection has a retain count of 2. WTF? NSURLConnection *urlConnection = [[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest: urlRequest delegate: self]; This is the line that instruments points me to. I find this very weird.

    Hello i have the following error: malloc: * error for object 0x2087000: pointer being freed was not allocated * set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug I have no idea what object that is. I don't know how to find it. Can anybody explain to me how (and where) to use malloc_history. I have set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break but i couldn't find out what object is at that address. I receive this after removing an object from an nsmutablearray and popping a view controller manually.     I am trying to create a NSMutableArray by reading in a .txt file and am having trouble setting the last element of the array to nil.     I'm writing a GUI for MongoDB using Cocoa. It's going well, but I don't know how to make KVO properties that would be lazily loaded. How does one handle that? For instance, viewing the documents in a Mongo collection. The collection might have a million items in it. I suspect I shouldn't be downloading the full 2-5 GiB of data to my Cocoa app, then format and display 20 rows. How does one implement that? I called my project Mongo Explorer, available on GitHub. Specifically, how would I code MECollection#reload to be lazy? Do I need to implement a data source delegate for my NSTableView?

  • How to organize XIB files with many overlapping elements?

    I have some XIB files which are very difficult to edit because many of the subviews overlap each other completely. For example, if I position a popup volume slider where it will pop up, it covers some UILabels which become impossible to click. My only chance to be able to edit them is to double-click on them in the Document window tree, move them aside, edit, then move them back. Sometimes there are 3 or more widgets that occupy the same location in the XIB, even though only a few are visible at a time while the application is running. How are conditionally-visible screen elements actually supposed to be organized? I would like to be able to hide groups of views to reveal what's beneath them, but I don't see a way to do that in IB. If I create UIViewControllers for every group, I can edit them in separate windows, but I can't see them in context, and I need a lot of view controllers...

    I'm trying to get the value of the repeatInterval key in the com.apple.scheduler plist. I'd like to just use NSDictionary's valueForKeyPath: method like so: CFPropertyListRef value; value = CFPreferencesCopyValue(CFSTR("AbsoluteSchedule"), CFSTR("com.apple.scheduler"), kCFPreferencesCurrentUser, kCFPreferencesCurrentHost); NSNumber *repeatInterval = [(NSDictionary *)value valueForKeyPath:@"com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.SUCheckSchedulerTag.Timer.repeatInterval"]; But the problem with this is that the first key is really "com.apple.SoftwareUpdate", not just "com". I can get around this by getting that first value separately: NSDictionary *dict = [(NSDictionary *)value valueForKey:@"com.apple.SoftwareUpdate"]; NSNumber *repeatInterval = [dict valueForKeyPath:@"SUCheckSchedulerTag.Timer.repeatInterval"]; I just wanted to know if there is a way to escape periods in a keypath so I can eliminate this extra step.

    I've got a class that wraps around an NSMutableSet object, and I have an instance method that adds objects (using the addObject: method) to the NSMutableSet. This works well, but I'm smelling a performance hitch because inside the method i'm explicitly calling containsObject: before adding the object to the set. Three part question: Do I need to be calling containsObject: before I add an object to the set? If so, then what actual method should I be using, containsObject or containsObjectIdenticalTo:? If that is not so, what contains method gets invoked under the hood of addObject:? This is important to me because if I pass an object to containsObject: it would return true, but if I pass it to containsObjectIdenticalTo: it would return false.

  • Having trouble hiding keyboard using invisible button which sits on top of uiscrollview

    I have 3 items in play... 1) UIView sits at the base of the hierarchy and contains the UIScrollview. 2) UIScrollview that is presenting a lengthy user form. 3) An invisible button on the UIScrollview that I'm using to provide "hide the keyboard" features. Notice in the code below that I'm registering to be notified when the keyboard is going to appear and again when it's going to disappear. These are working great. My problem is seemingly one of "layers". See below where I insert the button into the view atIndex:0. This causes the button to be activated and "stuffed" behind the scrollview so that when you click on it, the scrollview grabs the touch and the button is unaware. There is no way to "reach" the button and suppress the keyboard. However, if I insert atIndex:1, the button gets super imposed on top of the text entry fields and so any touch at all is acted upon by the button, which immediately suppresses the keyboard and then disappears. How do I insert the button on top of the UIScrollview but behind the UITextfields that sit there? other logistics: I have a -(void) hidekeyboard function that I have setup with the UIButtion as an IBAction(). And I have the UIButton connected to "files owner" via a ctrl-drag/drop. (Do I need both of those conventions?) This code in ViewDidLoad()...     I have url connection, which normally works fine NSURLConnection *connection = [[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest:request delegate:delegate]; But when I create a modal window, no request ever receives response: [NSApp runModalForWindow:window]; If I comment this line out, thus creating a 'standard' window, everything works. I tried implementing all methods from NSURLConnectionDelegate, not a single of them called. I suspect this is something about 'run loops', but have little experience in this area. Does anybody have experience in this? Thank you

  • Altering ManagedObjects In NSArray

    I have an entity called 'Job' with two boolean attributes named 'completed' and 'logged'. I am trying to retrieve all completed jobs that have not been logged at app start-up and change them to logged. I'm able to get all the completed but unlogged jobs with this fetchRequest: NSPredicate *predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"(completed == %@ && logged == %@)", [NSNumber numberWithBool:YES], [NSNumber numberWithBool:NO]]; I'm then assigning this predicate to a fetchRequest and calling the [managedObjectContext executeFetchRequest:fetchRequest] method to get an array of all Job entities that meet this criteria. This seems to work fine and is returning the correct number of jobs. What I've been trying to do is loop through the NSArray returned, set the logged attribute to YES and then save. This seems to complete and doesn't return any errors but the changes are not persisted when the application quits. Where am I going wrong?
