  • Array of NSButton

    - by mralvin
I wonder if I can do something like IBOutlet NSButton * aButton[100]; It turns out that aButton cannot be seen in the interface builder. My app has lots of buttons and I want to see if there are way I can use looping to iterate the state of all buttons.

  • NSURLConnection shown as leaking in instruments

    - by Gyozo Kudor
Hello another stupid question regarding leaks and also NSURLConnection. How do i release it? Is it enough if i release in the following 2 methods? (void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didFailWithError:(NSError *)error (void)connectionDidFinishLoading:(NSURLConnection *)connection Because in instruments it shows me the line where I alloc my connection as the source of leaking. OK I don't get it. After the following code my urlConnection has a retain count of 2. WTF? NSURLConnection *urlConnection = [[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest: urlRequest delegate: self]; This is the line that instruments points me to. I find this very weird.

  • How do I change the UIView programmatically?

    - by user317834
I have created View A and View B. My window has View A displayed on the screen. I also have a UIButton on View A. I want to switch from View A to View B when I click on the Button. I am not using any UIViewController. Is it possible to switch the views without using controller? I am calling buttonAction method on TOUCHUPINSIDE The problem is that it doesn't do anything when I say [ViewA removeFromSuperView]; What should I do now?

  • How do I bind to a custom view in Cocoa using Xcode 4?

    - by Newt
I'm a beginner when it comes to writing Mac apps and working with Cocoa, so please forgive my ignorance. I'm looking to create a custom view, that exposes some properties, which I can then bind to an NSObjectController. Since it's a custom view, the Bindings Inspector obviously doesn't list any of the properties I've added to the view that I can then bind to using Interface Builder. After turning to the Stackoverflow/Google for help, I've stumbled across a couple of possible solutions, but neither seem to be quite right for my situation. The first suggested creating an IBPlugin, which would then mean my bindings would be available in the Bindings Inspector. I could then bind the view to the controller using IB. Apparently IBPlugins aren't supported in Xcode 4, so that one's out the window. I'm also assuming (maybe wrongly) that IBPlugins are no longer supported because there's a better way of doing such things these days? The second option was to bind the controller to the view programmatically. I'm a bit confused as to exactly how I would achieve this. Would it require subclassing NSObjectController so I can add the calls to bind to the view? Would I need to add anything to the view to support this? Some examples I've seen say you'd need to override the bind method, and others say you don't. Also, I've noticed that some example custom views call [self exposeBinding:@"bindingName"] in the initializer. From what I gather from various sources, this is something that's related to IBPlugins and isn't something I need to do if I'm not using them. Is that correct? I've found a post on Stackoverflow here which seems to discuss something very similar to my problem, but there wasn't any clear winner as to the best answer. The last comment by noa on 12th Sept seems interesting, although they mention you should be calling exposeBinding:. Is this comment along the right track? Is the call to exposeBinding really necessary? Apologies for any dumb questions. Any help greatly appreciated.

  • Comparing floats in their bit representations

    - by sczizzo
Say I want a function that takes two floats (x and y), and I want to compare them using not their float representation but rather their bitwise representation as a 32-bit unsigned int. That is, a number like -495.5 has bit representation 0b11000011111001011100000000000000 or 0xC3E5C000 as a float, and I have an unsigned int with the same bit representation (corresponding to a decimal value 3286614016, which I don't care about). Is there any easy way for me to perform an operation like <= on these floats using only the information contained in their respective unsigned int counterparts?

  • How to read an image from disk and block until its read?

    - by Shizam
I'm loading 5 images from disk but I want the 1st image I read to show as soon as possible. Right now I do UIImage *img = [UIImage imageWithContentsOfFile:path]; in a for loop but since imageWithContentsOfFile:path isn't blocking all 5 images wind up getting read from disk before the first one will appear (because they're all using up I/O). I confirmed this by just load one and it appeared on screen faster than if I load all 5. I'd like to load the 1st image and block until its fully read and shown before loading the next 4 or load the 1st one and be notified when its done before loading the next 4 but I can't figure out a way to do it. None of the 'WithContentsOfFile' methods for data or image block and they don't notify or have delegate methods. Any suggestions? Thanks

  • Weird Perspective With CATransform3DMakeRotation

    - by kopproduction
I'm having an odd problem with CATransform3DMakeRotation. When the rotated view is in the center of the superview, it looks like this: This is how it's supposed to look. However, when it's somewhere else in the superview, say, in the lower left corner, it looks like this: Note that it is tilted to the right. Same thing happens when it's in the lower right corner, only that it tilts to the left. Is there some way to make it tilt the way it should all the time and in every position?

  • Creating a method for wrapping a loaded image in a UIImageView

    - by eco_bach
I have the following un my applicationDidFinishLaunching method UIImage *image2 = [UIImage imageWithContentsOfFile:[[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"image2.jpg" ofType:nil]]; view2 = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:image2]; view2.hidden = YES; [containerView addSubview:view2]; I'm simply adding an image to a view. But because I need to add 30-40 images I need to wrap the above in a function (which returns a UIImageView) and then call it from a loop. This is my first attempt at creating the function -(UIImageView)wrapImageInView:(NSString *)imagePath { UIImage *image = [UIImage imageWithContentsOfFile:[[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:imagePath ofType:nil]]; UIImageView *view = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:image]; view.hidden = YES; } And then to invoke it I have the following so far, for simplicity I am only wrapping 3 images //Create an array and add elements to it NSMutableArray *anArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [anArray addObject:@"image1.jpg"]; [anArray addObject:@"image2.jpg"]; [anArray addObject:@"image3.jpg"]; //Use a for each loop to iterate through the array for (NSString *s in anArray) { UIImageView *wrappedImgInView=[self wrapImage:s]; [containerView addSubview:wrappedImgInView]; NSLog(s); } //Release the array [anArray release]; I have 2 general questions 1-Is my approach correct?, ie following best practices, for what I am trying to do (load a multiple number of images(jpgs, pngs, etc.) and adding them to a container view) 2-For this to work properly with a large number of images, do I need to keep my array creation separate from my method invocation? Any other suggestions welcome!

  • iPhone --- 3DES Encryption returns "wrong" results?

    - by Jan Gressmann
Hello fellow developers, I have some serious trouble with a CommonCrypto function. There are two existing applications for BlackBerry and Windows Mobile, both use Triple-DES encryption with ECB mode for data exchange. On either the encrypted results are the same. Now I want to implent the 3DES encryption into our iPhone application, so I went straight for CommonCrypto: http://www.opensource.apple.com/source/CommonCrypto/CommonCrypto-32207/CommonCrypto/CommonCryptor.h I get some results if I use CBC mode, but they do not correspond with the results of Java or C#. Anyway, I want to use ECB mode, but I don't get this working at all - there is a parameter error showing up... This is my call for the ECB mode... I stripped it a little bit: const void *vplainText; plainTextBufferSize = [@"Hello World!" length]; bufferPtrSize = (plainTextBufferSize + kCCBlockSize3DES) & ~(kCCBlockSize3DES - 1); plainText = (const void *) [@"Hello World!" UTF8String]; NSString *key = @"abcdeabcdeabcdeabcdeabcd"; ccStatus = CCCrypt(kCCEncrypt, kCCAlgorithm3DES, kCCOptionECBMode, key, kCCKeySize3DES, nil, // iv, not used with ECB plainText, plainTextBufferSize, (void *)bufferPtr, // output bufferPtrSize, &movedBytes); t is more or less the code from here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9017515 But as already mentioned, I get a parameter error each time... When I use kCCOptionPKCS7Padding instead of kCCOptionECBMode and set the same initialization vector in C# and my iPhone code, the iPhone gives me different results. Is there a mistake by getting my output from the bufferPtr? Currently I get the encrypted stuff this way: NSData *myData = [NSData dataWithBytes:(const void *)bufferPtr length:(NSUInteger)movedBytes]; result = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:myData encoding:NSISOLatin1StringEncoding]; It seems I almost tried every setting twice, different encodings and so on... where is my error?

  • iPhone toolbar shared by multiple views

    - by codemonkey
Another iPhone noob question. The app I'm building needs to show a shared custom UIToolbar for multiple views (and their subviews) within a UITabBarController framework. The contents of the custom toolbar are the same across all the views. I'd like to be able to design the custom toolbar as a xib and handle UI events from its own controller class (I'm assuming I can subclass UIToolbar to do so?). That way I could define IBOutlet & IBAction items, etc. Then I could associate this custom toolbar with eachs of the UITabBarController views (and their subviews). But I'm having trouble finding out whether that's possible - and if so, how to do it. In particular, I want to be able to push new views onto UINavigationControllers that are each associated with parent UITabBarController tabs. So, to summarize, I want a: custom toolbar shared by multiple views which are managed by multiple navigation controllers and the navigation controllers are associated with different tabs of a parent tab bar controller The tab bar controller itself is launched modally, though I don't believe that's relevant. Anyway, the tab bar controller is working, as are its child navigation controllers. I'm just having a little trouble figuring out how to persist the shared toolbar to the various subviews. I'd settle for a good clean way of implementing programmatically... though I'd prefer the flexibility of keeping the toolbar's visual design in a xib. Anyone have any suggestions?

  • noob iPhone "count" frustrations!?!?!

    - by codemonkey
Okay, I know I must be doing something incredibly stupid here. Here's the sample code (which, when executed within a viewDidLoad block silently crashes... no error output to debug console). NSMutableArray *bs = [NSMutableArray arrayWithCapacity:10]; [bs addObject:[NSNumber numberWithInteger: 2]]; NSLog(@"%@", [bs count]); [bs release]; What am I missing? Oh... and in case anyone is wondering, this code is just me trying to figure out why I can't get the count of an NSMutableArray that actually matters somewhere else in the program.

  • Best practice? - Array/Dictionary as a Core Data Entity Attribute

    - by Run Loop
I am new to Core Data. I have noticed that collection types are not available as attribute types and would like to know what the most efficient way is of storing array/dictionary type data as an attribute (e.g. the elements that make up an address like street, city, etc. does not require a separate entity and is more conveniently stored as a dictionary/array than separate attributes/fields). Thank you.

  • how do I set a delegate in a view that is not my main view

    - by orangecl4now
I have a xib. the xib has a button that swaps another xib. the second xib has a uitextfield and a uilabel. how do I make the keyboard go away when I'm done typing? what do I need to wire or code? the second xib has it's own class (called CustomSign.m) Inside CustomSign.m, I've implemented the following method -(void)textFieldDidEndEditing:(UITextField *)textField { [customText resignFirstResponder]; signedLabel.text = customText.text; } - (void)awakeFromNib { //assume textField is an ivar that is connected to the textfield in IB [customText setDelegate:self]; } I get the following warning Class "CustomSign" does not implement the UITextFieldDelegate protocol

  • iPhone - Create non-persistent entities in core data

    - by ncohen
Hi everyone, I would like to use entity objects but not store them... I read that I could create them like this: myElement = (Element *)[NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"Element" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; And right after that remove them: [managedObjectContext deleteObject:myElement]; then I can use my elements: myElement.property1 = @"Hello"; This works pretty well even though I think this is probably not the most optimal way to do it... Then I try to use it in my UITableView... the problem is that the object get released after the initialization. My table becomes empty when I move it! Thanks edit: I've also tried to copy the element ([myElement copy]) but I get an error...

  • Iphone: controlling text with delay problem with UIWebView

    - by James B.
Hi, I've opted to use UIWebView so I can control the layout of text I've got contained in a local html document in my bundle. I want the text to display within a UIWebView I've got contained within my view. So the text isn't the whole view, just part of it. Everything runs fine, but when the web page loads I get a blank screen for a second before the text appears. This looks really bad. can anyone give me an example of how to stop this happening? I'm assuming I have to somehow hide the web view until it has fully loaded? Could someone one tell me how to do this? At the moment I'm calling my code through the viewDidLoad like this: [myUIWebView loadRequest: [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL fileURLWithPath:[[NSBundle mainBundle]pathForResource:@"localwebpage" ofType:@"html"] isDirectory:NO]]]; Any help is much appreciated. I've read round a few forums and not seen a good answer to this question, and it seems like it recurs a lot as an issue for beginners like myself. Thanks for taking the time to read this post! UPDATED info Thanks for your response. The suggestions below solves the problem but creates a new one for me as now when my view loads it is totally hidden until I click on my toggle switch. to understand this it's maybe most helpful if I post all my code. Before this though let me explain the setup of my view. I've got a standard view within which I've also got two web views, one on top of the other. each web view contains different text with different styling. the user flicks between views using a toggle switch, which hides/reveals the web views. I'm using the web views because I want to control the style/layout of the text. Below is my full .m code, I can't figure out where it's going wrong. My web views are called oxford & harvard I'm sure its something to do with how/when I'm hiding/revealing views. I've played around with this but can't seem to get it right. Maybe my approach is wrong. A bit of advice ironing this out would be really appreciated: @implementation ReferenceViewController @synthesize oxford; @synthesize harvard; // Implement viewDidLoad to do additional setup after loading the view, typically from a nib. - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; [oxford loadRequest: [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL fileURLWithPath:[[NSBundle mainBundle]pathForResource:@"Oxford" ofType:@"html"] isDirectory:NO]]]; [harvard loadRequest: [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL fileURLWithPath:[[NSBundle mainBundle]pathForResource:@"Harvard" ofType:@"html"] isDirectory:NO]]]; [oxford setHidden:YES]; [harvard setHidden:YES]; } - (void)webViewDidFinishLoad:(UIWebView *)webView { if([webView hidden]) { [oxford setHidden:NO]; [harvard setHidden:NO]; } } //Toggle controls for toggle switch in UIView to swap between webviews - (IBAction)toggleControls:(id)sender { if ([sender selectedSegmentIndex] == kSwitchesSegmentIndex) { oxford.hidden = NO; harvard.hidden = YES; } else { oxford.hidden = YES; harvard.hidden = NO; } } - (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning { // Releases the view if it doesn't have a superview. [super didReceiveMemoryWarning]; // Release any cached data, images, etc that aren't in use. } - (void)viewDidUnload { [super viewDidUnload]; // Release any retained subviews of the main view. // e.g. self.myOutlet = nil; } - (void)dealloc { [super dealloc]; [oxford release]; [harvard release]; } @end

  • UISwitch text not showing on device

    - by iFloh
Hi, I have a screen with several UISwitch controls. On my iPhone simulator this screen works correctly and The Switch text shows as On/Off. Different on my testing device (iPod Touch). Here the text seems to get lost and I only get "1" (instead of "On") and "0" (instead of "Off"). I don't know where the iPod Touch is different and why it's not showing correctly. Anyone had a similar experience? Is this a bug? Cheers
