    Hello another stupid question regarding leaks and also NSURLConnection. How do i release it? Is it enough if i release in the following 2 methods? (void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didFailWithError:(NSError *)error (void)connectionDidFinishLoading:(NSURLConnection *)connection Because in instruments it shows me the line where I alloc my connection as the source of leaking. OK I don't get it. After the following code my urlConnection has a retain count of 2. WTF? NSURLConnection *urlConnection = [[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest: urlRequest delegate: self]; This is the line that instruments points me to. I find this very weird.

I need to search only between items that match pattern Word* and not * Word *. For example if I search "roma", this need to match just with "Roma" or "Romania" and not with "Castelli di Roma".   • iPhone --- 3DES Encryption returns "wrong" results?

    Hello fellow developers, I have some serious trouble with a CommonCrypto function. There are two existing applications for BlackBerry and Windows Mobile, both use Triple-DES encryption with ECB mode for data exchange. On either the encrypted results are the same. Now I want to implent the 3DES encryption into our iPhone application, so I went straight for CommonCrypto: http://www.opensource.apple.com/source/CommonCrypto/CommonCrypto-32207/CommonCrypto/CommonCryptor.h I get some results if I use CBC mode, but they do not correspond with the results of Java or C#. Anyway, I want to use ECB mode, but I don't get this working at all - there is a parameter error showing up... This is my call for the ECB mode... I stripped it a little bit: const void *vplainText; plainTextBufferSize = [@"Hello World!" length]; bufferPtrSize = (plainTextBufferSize + kCCBlockSize3DES) & ~(kCCBlockSize3DES - 1); plainText = (const void *) [@"Hello World!"   • Altering ManagedObjects In NSArray

    I have an entity called 'Job' with two boolean attributes named 'completed' and 'logged'. I am trying to retrieve all completed jobs that have not been logged at app start-up and change them to logged. I'm able to get all the completed but unlogged jobs with this fetchRequest: NSPredicate *predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"(completed == %@ && logged == %@)", [NSNumber numberWithBool:YES], [NSNumber numberWithBool:NO]]; I'm then assigning this predicate to a fetchRequest and calling the [managedObjectContext executeFetchRequest:fetchRequest] method to get an array of all Job entities that meet this criteria. This seems to work fine and is returning the correct number of jobs. What I've been trying to do is loop through the NSArray returned, set the logged attribute to YES and then save. This seems to complete and doesn't return any errors but the changes are not persisted when the application quits. Where am I going wrong?     I used the FireFox add-on SQLite Manager, created a database, which saved to my desktop as "DB.sqlite". I copied the file into my supporting files for the project.   • How can I make a core-plot graph on the phone that doesn't auto-expand to fill the whole superview

    I'm pretty sure I saw an example where the graph wasn't filling the whole iPhone screen, but I can't get that to happen in my app, nor in the Core-Plot Test app from Switch On The Code. I've added a subview to the original CPLayerHostingView in the sample, then changed the classes – original back to UIView, new subview to CPLayerHostingView, and I've reconnected the File's owner's view outlet to the new subview. When I create a graph with: graph = [[CPXYGraph alloc] initWithFrame: theSubviewOutlet.bounds]; … and step through the first stages of building up the layers the bounds are accurate (i.e. the same as in the .xib) however, when all the initialization is done, and the graph shows up, it fills the whole superview. Am I missing something obvious?

    I am creating a Cocoa Application for Mac OS 10.6 , and I want to hide the toolbar of an NSWindow automatically when it is not in use for at least 30 seconds. I think this can be done with NSTimers, but I'm not familiar with them and I don't know how I can implement this. Another problem is that both the NSToolbarDelegate and NSWindowDelegate protocols don't have delegate methods like toolbarDidShow: Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks. PS. This is not to punish the user, but rather give the user a cleaner window (the window consist of only a toolbar for color and font and a text-view). PPS. Can the hide-toolbar-animation lead into a problem with the cursor while the user is typing?

    I'm currently struggling with Core Data iCloud migration. I want to move a store from an iCloud ubiquity container (.nosync) to a local URL. Problem is whenever I call something like this: NSPersistentStore *newStore = [self.persistentStoreCoordinator migratePersistentStore: currentiCloudStore toURL: localURL options: nil withType: NSSQLiteStoreType error: &error]; I get this error: -[NSPersistentStoreCoordinator addPersistentStoreWithType:configuration:URL:options:error:](1055): CoreData: Ubiquity: Error: A persistent store which has been previously added to a coordinator using the iCloud integration options must always be added to the coordinator with the options present in the options dictionary. If you wish to use the store without iCloud, migrate the data from the iCloud store file to a new store file in local storage. file://localhost/Users/sch/Library/Containers/bla/Data/Documents/tmp.sqlite. This will be a fatal error in a future release Anyone ever seen this error? Maybe I'm just missing the right migration options?

    I have url connection, which normally works fine NSURLConnection *connection = [[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest:request delegate:delegate]; But when I create a modal window, no request ever receives response: [NSApp runModalForWindow:window]; If I comment this line out, thus creating a 'standard' window, everything works. I tried implementing all methods from NSURLConnectionDelegate, not a single of them called. I suspect this is something about 'run loops', but have little experience in this area.     I have some XIB files which are very difficult to edit because many of the subviews overlap each other completely. For example, if I position a popup volume slider where it will pop up, it covers some UILabels which become impossible to click. My only chance to be able to edit them is to double-click on them in the Document window tree, move them aside, edit, then move them back. Sometimes there are 3 or more widgets that occupy the same location in the XIB, even though only a few are visible at a time while the application is running. How are conditionally-visible screen elements actually supposed to be organized? I would like to be able to hide groups of views to reveal what's beneath them, but I don't see a way to do that in IB. If I create UIViewControllers for every group, I can edit them in separate windows, but I can't see them in context, and I need a lot of view controllers...

    I do not want to create a custom navigation bar. I am pushing a UIViewController and I want to customize how the navigation bar looks for that UIViewController In story board, we just specify the segue and a nav bar show up on the screen. We just drag and drop UIBarItem to the left and right. In XIB, the navigationBar simply doesn't show up. I can add navigation Item but the one I added is ignored. I've heard that there used to be an outlet called navigationItem but it's deprecated for reason I do not know. I can add UINavigationBar, however that would be adding my own custom bar. I want the navBar that's provided by UINavigationController.
