• Hibernate object equality checking

  As far as I understand(correct me if I am wrong) Hibernate uses object reference to check the object equality. When Hibernate identifies that there are more than one objects attached to same DB record, it throws following exception. "a different object with the same identifier value was already associated with the session" My question is, does Hibernate use equal() method to check the object equality (The default equal method uses object reference)? If it is true, will overridden equal() method change the Hibernate behavior? Note: My question is not about the issues of implementing equal() or hashCode() methods in a Hibernate persisted object. • Getting the errors for code in unopened .aspx pages

  Is there a way to check for errors in unopened *.ASPX pages. For example, if you change the name of a function Visual Studio will catch the error on the page and list it in the "Error List" only if the page is opened and being validated? I guess the question could be is there a validation option opposed to the compile option to check for errors? (Yes, i know code should go into the pre-compiled code-behind pages.)   Is there any way to let FindBugs check and warn me if a CheckForNull annotation is present on the implementation of a method in a class, but not on the declaration of the method in the interface? import javax.annotation.CheckForNull; interface Foo { public String getBar(); } class FooImpl implements Foo { @CheckForNull @Override public String getBar() { return null; } } public class FindBugsDemo { public static void main(String[] args) { Foo foo = new FooImpl(); System.out.println(foo.getBar().length()); } } I just discovered a bug in my application due to a missing null check that was not spotted by FindBugs because CheckForNull was only present on FooImpl, but not on Foo, and I don't want to spot all other locations of this problem manually.

  With reference to Guice's custom injections article, its TypeListener performs a check for InjectLogger.class annotation - which can be optional. • Limit checkboxes with jquery based on checked radio buttons

  So, i have this problem with some checkboxes. First of all let me tell you about the "project" itself. It's a webform, the user must complete it and check some checkboxes and radio buttons depending on what he would like to purchase. First of them are 2 radio bullets, numbered 1 and 2, and represent the quantity of the product he wants to purchase. Next to those are about 5 checkboxes that represent the color of the product, it doesn't matter how many of them are, the thing is ... i want, when a user selects 1 at the radio buttons, only 1 checkbox to be active, if he selects 2 then only 2 checkboxes to be available to check. So.. could someone help me? I thought of jQuery but i don't know... There are two divs, the first div with the id of let's say #radioButtons has 2 radio buttons, and the second div has the rest of the checkboxes.

• Hit Testing with CALayer using the alpha properties of the CALayer contents.

  I'm writing a game for Mac using Cocoa. I'm currently implementing hit testing and have founds that CALayer offers hit testing, but does not seem to implement the alpha properties. As I have at times many CALayers stacked on top of each other, I really need to find a way to determine what the user actually meant to click on. I'm thinking if I could somehow get an array that contains pointers to all of the CALayers that contain the click point, I could filter through them some how. However the only way I've got so far to create the array is: NSMutableArray* anArrayOfLayers = [NSMutableArray array]; for (CALayer* aLayer in mapLayer.sublayers) { if ([aLayer containsPoint:mouseCoord]) [anArrayOfLayers addObject:aLayer]; } Then sort the array by the CALayer's z-values then go through checking if the pixel at location is alpha or not. However, between the sort and the alpha check this seems to be an incredible performance hog. (How would you even check the alpha?) Is there any way to do this?

• "Zoom" text to be as big as possible within constraints/box

  First problem: You have 400 pixels width to go on, and need to fit some text within that constraint as large as possible (thus, the text shall use that amount of space). Throw in a new constraint: If the text is just "A", then it shall not zoom this above 100 pixels (or some specific font size). Then, a final situation: Linebreaks. Fit some text in the largest possible way within e.g. 400 x 150 pixels. An obvious way is to simply start with point 1, and then increase until you can't fit it anymore. This would work for all three problems, but would be very crude. The fitting of a single line within bounds could be done by writing it with some fixed point size, check the resulting pixel bounds of the text, and then simply scale it with a transform (the text scales properly too then, check out TransformUI). Any ideas of other ways to attack this would be greatly appreciated!

• Regex expression with leading zero

  I'm rather new to regex expressions and need help with a simple expression. I'm using Pentaho for ETL (Replace in String transformation) and I have column values that I need to add leading zeros to and parse out text as part of the database import. So far I have been unable to add the leading zero. The column is called Region and the values are "region 8", "region 10", "region 11". My regex expression is ['Region'] which will eliminate the region text but produces results = "8", "10", "11". I need values to produce "08", "10", "11". So all the single digit numbers must have leading zeros.

• Cakephp, an elegant solution to quantities?

  Hi, I have a shopping cart system in Cakephp, this table has all your usual maguffins: user_ids, product_ids, option_lists ect. It also has quantity. I currently have some awful nested loops to check if the record is the same as any in there, if so add one to the quantity. If not add a new cart item. This loop has to check associated list items and product options, so it goes quite deep. What I'm wondering is if there is a more elegant way of checking to see if two cart items in a database are similar (everything except for quantity). Cheers!

• How do you determine using stat() whether a file is a symbolic link?

  I basically have to write a clone of the UNIX ls command for a class, and I've got almost everything working. One thing I can't seem to figure out how to do is check whether a file is a symbolic link or not. From the man page for stat(), I see that there is a mode_t value defined, S_IFLNK. This is how I'm trying to check whether a file is a sym-link, with no luck (note, stbuf is the buffer that stat() returned the inode data into): switch(stbuf.st_mode & S_IFMT){ case S_IFLNK: printf("this is a link\n"); break; case S_IFREG: printf("this is not a link\n"); break; } My code ALWAYS prints this is not a link even if it is, and I know for a fact that the said file is a symbolic link since the actual ls command says so, plus I created the sym-link...   Hi Kernel Gurus, I'm currently writing a simple "multicaster" module. Only one process can open a proc filesystem file for writing, and the rest can open it for reading. To do so i use the inode_operation .permission callback, I check the operation and when i detect someone open a file for writing I set a flag ON. i need a way to detect if a process that opened a file for writing has decided to close the file so i can set the flag OFF, so someone else can open for writing. Currently in case someone is open for writing i save the current-pid of that process and when the .close callback is called I check if that process is the one I saved earlier. Is there a better way to do that? Without saving the pid, perhaps checking the files that the current process has opened and it's permission... Thanks!

• Can I make a LaTeX macro 'return' a filename?

  I'm writing my thesis/dissertation and since its an on-going work I don't always have the actual images ready for the figures I put into my document, but for various reasons want to automatically have it substitute a dummy figure in place when the included graphics file doesn't exist. E.g. I can do something like \includegraphics[width=8cm]{\chapdir/figures/fluxcapacitor} (where \chapdir is a macro for my 'current' chapter directory, e.g. \def\chapdir{./ch_timetravel} and if there's no ./ch_timetravel/figures/fluxcapacitor.jpg it'll insert ./commands/dummy.jpg instead. I've structured my macros (perhaps naïvely?) so that I have a macro (\figFileOrDummy) that determines the appropriate file to include by checking if the argument provided to it exists, so that I can call \includegraphics[properties]{\figFileOrDummy{\chapdir/figures/fluxcapacitor}}. Except I'm getting various errors depending on how I try to call this, which seem to suggest that I'm approaching the problem in a fundamentally flawed way as far as 'good LaTeX programming' goes. (note the space after \def) and obviously complains. Also it seems to treat the literal contents of the macro as the filename for \includegraphics, rather than resolving/expanding it first, so complains that the file '\def {commands/dummy}... .png' doesn't exist.. I've tried also doing something like \edef\figfilename{\figFileOrDummy{\chapdir/figures/fluxcapacitor}} to try to force it to make \figfilename hold just the value rather than the full macro, but I get an Undefined control sequence error complaining the variables I'm trying to \def in the \figFileOrDummy macro are undefined. So my question is either How do I make this macro expand properly?; or If this is the wrong way of structuring my macros, how should I actually structure such a macro, in order to be able to insert dummy/real figures automatically?; or Is there a package that already handles this type of thing nicely that I've overlooked? I feel like I'm missing something pretty fundamental here...

  I am looking to find an best way to find a date from date ranges that may or may not be contiguous (I am trying to avoid a cursor, or a heavy function if possible). Lets say I have hotel guests that come and go (check in, check out). I want to find the date that a certain guest stayed their 45th night with us. The database we use records the data as so: Create Table #GuestLog( ClientId int, StartDate DateTime, EndDate DateTime) Here is some data Insert Into #GuestLog Values(1, '01/01/2010', '01/10/2010') Insert Into #GuestLog Values(1, '01/16/2010', '01/29/2010') Insert Into #GuestLog Values(1, '02/13/2010', '02/26/2010') Insert Into #GuestLog Values(1, '04/05/2010', '06/01/2010') Insert Into #GuestLog Values(1, '07/01/2010', '07/21/2010') So far I can only think of solutions that involve functions with temp tables and crazy stuff like that, I feel like I'm over thinking it.   I have the following string: const char *str = "\"This is just some random text\" 130 28194 \"Some other string\" \"String 3\"" I would like to get the the integer 28194 of course the integer varies, so I can't do strstr("20194"). So I was wondering what would be a good way to get that part of the string? I was thinking to use #include <regex.h> which I already have a procedure to match regexp's but not sure how the regexp in C will look like using the POSIX style notation. [:alpha:]+[:digit:] and if performance will be an issue. Or will it be better using strchr,strstr? Any ideas will be appreciate it

• Do similar passwords have similar hashes?

  Our computer system at work requires users to change their password every few weeks, and you cannot have the same password as you had previously. It remembers something like 20 of your last passwords. I discovered most people simply increment a digit at the end of their password, so "thisismypassword1" becomes "thisismypassword2" then 3, 4, 5 etc. Since all of these passwords are stored somewhere, I wondered if there was any weakness in the hashes themselves, for standard hashing algorithms used to store passwords like MD5. Could a hacker increase their chances of brute-forcing the password if they have a list of hashes of similar passwords?

• Why is it a bad idea to use ClientLogin for web apps in the Google API?

  I just picked up the Google API today to allow some users of our site to upload videos to our own organization YouTube account. I Don't want our users to know our user name and password, but rather give them the option if they want to upload videos to youtube or not. If they choose to do it, they check on a check box and hit the submit button. I keep seeing over, and over in the Developers guide that ClientLogin, which to me looks like the best option to implement what I want to do, is not a good idea for user authentication in web applicaitons. The "AuthSub for web applications" doesn't seem to be the best mechanism for what I want to implement! Any ideas on what to do? Thank you
