  • MSVC++ enum underlying type

    - by bobobobo
    MSDN has enum [tag] [: type] {enum-list} [declarator]; // for definition of enumerated type SO it looks like you can specify the type of an enum in MSVC++, but it doesn't seem to work for me: // want "underlying type" of this enum to be char. enum MyCharEnum : char { Val1 ='A', Val2 ='B', Val9 ='X' } ;

  • NHibernate MySQL Enum

    - by LnDCobra
    I am trying to access the "MYSQL" database tables to create a GUI for adding users and privileges. Doing this, I have run into my first NHibernate problem. How do i map MySQL Enum's to a C# Boolean? Or if not possible then to at least a Enum? The database fields are delcared as enum('N', 'Y') These are all of the privilege fields in the database. Now is there anyway of getting this into an enum or even better, boolean in C#/NHibernate? Edit #1: In C# if I need to declare an enum it will be the following: enum YesNoEnum { Yes, No }

  • Converting an integer to a boxed enum type only known at runtime

    - by Marc Gravell
    Imagine we have an enum: enum Foo { A=1,B=2,C=3 } If the type is known at compile-time, a direct cast can be used to change between the enum-type and the underlying type (usually int): static int GetValue() { return 2; } ... Foo foo = (Foo)GetValue(); // becomes Foo.B And boxing this gives a box of type Foo: object o1 = foo; Console.WriteLine(o1.GetType().Name); // writes Foo (and indeed, you can box as Foo and unbox as int, or box as int and unbox as Foo quite happily) However (the problem); if the enum type is only known at runtime things are... trickier. It is obviously trivial to box it as an int - but can I box it as Foo? (Ideally without using generics and MakeGenericMethod, which would be ugly). Convert.ChangeType throws an exception. ToString and Enum.Parse works, but is horribly inefficient. I could look at the defined values (Enum.GetValues or Type.GetFields), but that is very hard for [Flags], and even without would require getting back to the underlying-type first (which isn't as hard, thankfully). But; is there a more direct to get from a value of the correct underlying-type to a box of the enum-type, where the type is only known at runtime?

  • List MySQL enum in Java

    - by Pieter
    Is there a way to get all possible values from a MySQL enum column? The MySQL documentation says the MySQL enum type is returned as a Java String, so I basically would like a way to get all possible strings I can pass when querying a table with such an enum. I couldn't immediately find anything when I was looking through the metadata returned for such a column, but since enum isn't standard SQL, I'm not sure it's even possible... any suggestions?

  • Random value from Flags enum

    - by Chris Porter
    Say I have a function that accepts an enum decorated with the Flags attribute. If the value of the enum is a combination of more than one of the enum elements how can I extract one of those elements at random? I have the following but it seems there must be a better way. [Flags] enum Colours { Blue = 1, Red = 2, Green = 4 } public static void Main() { var options = Colours.Blue | Colours.Red | Colours.Green; var opts = options.ToString().Split(','); var rand = new Random(); var selected = opts[rand.Next(opts.Length)].Trim(); var myEnum = Enum.Parse(typeof(Colours), selected); Console.WriteLine(myEnum); Console.ReadLine(); }

  • Get enum by it's inner field

    - by zeroed
    Hi! Have enum with inner fields, kind of map. Now I need to get enum by it's inner field. Wrote this: package test; /** * Test enum to test enum =) */ public enum TestEnum { ONE(1), TWO(2), THREE(3); private int number; TestEnum(int number) { this.number = number; } public TestEnum findByKey(int i) { TestEnum[] testEnums = TestEnum.values(); for (TestEnum testEnum : testEnums) { if (testEnum.number == i) { return testEnum; } } return null; } } But it's not very efficient to look up through all enums each time I need to find appropriate instance. Is there any other way to do the same?

  • Java Enum Newbie Question

    - by ikurtz
    i have a situation where i need the Checker enum below used in multiple classes: package Sartre.Connect4; public enum Checker { EMPTY, RED, YELLOW } so i put the Checker in a Checker.java file and then from the classes that need it i simply do the following: example: public Cell(){ currentCell = Checker.EMPTY; } example: public Cell(Checker checker){ currentCell = checker; } and the code compiles fine and runs fine also. so what is my question? well being new to Java i am just wondering if the way i use Checker without encapsulating it in a class is a sound implementation? it may be because of The enum declaration defines a class (called an enum type). as noted in Java docs enum tutorial page. thank you for your insight into this matter.

  • Is there an official Ubuntu free support team?

    - by João Pinto
    I have found that there is an "Ubuntu Support Team" at https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-helpteam but I am not sure it's official or active. Please note that I am not referring to bug fixing support, I am referring to the broader OS support, with people available to engage users needing support with a problem and drive it to a proper resolution. Is there an official team for this purpose with a clear scope and activity plan ?

  • mysql enum performance: is enum slower than INT

    - by JP19
    Hi, Is it better to have a field status enum('active', 'hidden', 'deleted') OR status tinyint(3) with a lookup table. Assume that status can take only one value at a time. In particular, I am interested in knowing, are operations on enum significantly slower than or as fast as operations on int ? There is a related question on SO Mysql: enum confusion but i) It does not discuss performance at all ii) There is very little explanation on WHY one approach is better than the other. regards, JP

  • Enum and Dictionary<Enum, Action>

    - by Selcuk
    I hope I can explain my problem in a way that it's clear for everyone. We need your suggestions on this. We have an Enum Type which has more than 15 constants defined. We receive a report from a web service and translate its one column into this Enum type. And based on what we receive from that web service, we run specific functions using Dictionary Why am I asking for ideas? Let's say 3 of these Enum contants meet specific functions in our Dictionary but the rest use the same function. So, is there a way to add them into our Dictionary in a better way rather than adding them one by one? I also want to keep this structure because when it's time, we might have specific functions in the future for the ones that I described as "the rest". To be more clear here's an example what we're trying to do: Enum: public enum Reason{ ReasonA, ReasonB, ReasonC, ReasonD, ReasonE, ReasonF, ReasonG, ReasonH, ReasonI, ReasonJ, ReasonK } Defining our Dictionary: public Dictionary<Reason, Action<CustomClassObj, string>> ReasonHandlers = new Dictionary<Reason, Action<CustomClassObj, string>>{ { Reason.ReasonA, HandleReasonA }, { Reason.ReasonB, HandleReasonB }, { Reason.ReasonC, HandleReasonC }, { Reason.ReasonD, HandleReasonGeneral }, { Reason.ReasonE, HandleReasonGeneral }, { Reason.ReasonF, HandleReasonGeneral }, { Reason.ReasonG, HandleReasonGeneral }, { Reason.ReasonH, HandleReasonGeneral }, { Reason.ReasonI, HandleReasonGeneral }, { Reason.ReasonJ, HandleReasonGeneral }, { Reason.ReasonK, HandleReasonGeneral } }; So basically what I'm asking is, is there a way to add Reason, Function pair more intelligently? Because as you can see after ReasonC, all other reasons use the same function. Thank you for your suggestions.

  • When runs a product out of support?

    That is a question I get regularly from customers. Microsoft has a great site where you can find that information. Unfortunately this site is not easy to find, and a lot of people are not aware of this site. A good reason to promote it a little. So if you ever get a question on this topic, go to http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/search/Default.aspx. At that site, you can find also the details of the policy Microsoft Support Lifecycle Policy The Microsoft Support Lifecycle policy took effect in October 2002, and applies to most products currently available through retail purchase or volume licensing and most future release products. Through the policy, Microsoft will offer a minimum of: 10 years of support (5 years Mainstream Support and 5 years Extended Support) at the supported service pack level for Business and Developer products 5 years Mainstream Support at the supported service pack level for Consumer/Hardware/Multimedia products 3 years of Mainstream Support for products that are annually released (for example, Money, Encarta, Picture It!, and Streets & Trips) Phases of the Support Lifecycle Mainstream Support Mainstream Support is the first phase of the product support lifecycle. At the supported service pack level, Mainstream Support includes: Incident support (no-charge incident support, paid incident support, support charged on an hourly basis, support for warranty claims) Security update support The ability to request non-security hotfixes Please note: Enrollment in a maintenance program may be required to receive these benefits for certain products Extended Support The Extended Support phase follows Mainstream Support for Business and Developer products. At the supported service pack level, Extended Support includes: Paid support Security update support at no additional cost Non-security related hotfix support requires a separate Extended Hotfix Support Agreement to be purchased (per-fix fees also apply) Please note: Microsoft will not accept requests for warranty support, design changes, or new features during the Extended Support phase Extended Support is not available for Consumer, Hardware, or Multimedia products Enrollment in a maintenance program may be required to receive these benefits for certain products Self-Help Online Support Self-Help Online Support is available throughout a product's lifecycle and for a minimum of 12 months after the product reaches the end of its support. Microsoft online Knowledge Base articles, FAQs, troubleshooting tools, and other resources, are provided to help customers resolve common issues. • What are the downsides of implementing a singleton with Java's enum?

    - by irreputable
    Traditionally, a singleton is usually implemented as public class Foo1 { private static final Foo1 INSTANCE = new Foo1(); public static Foo1 getInstance(){ return INSTANCE; } private Foo1(){} public void doo(){ ... } } With Java's enum, we can implement a singleton as public enum Foo2 { INSTANCE; public void doo(){ ... } } As awesome as the 2nd version is, are there any downsides to it? (I gave it some thoughts and I'll answer my own question; hopefully you have better answers)

  • JSON serialization of c# enum as string

    - by ob
    I have a class that contains an enum property, and upon serializing the object using JavaScriptSerializer, my json result contains the integer value of the enumeration rather than its string "name". Is there a way to get the enum as a string in my json without having to create a custom JavaScriptConverter? Perhaps there's an attribute that I could decorate the enum definition, or object property, with? As an example: enum Gender { Male, Female } class Person { int Age { get; set; } Gender Gender { get; set; } } desired json result: { "Age": 35, "Gender": "Male" }

  • Logic inside an enum

    - by Vivin Paliath
    My colleagues and I were having a discussion regarding logic in enums. My personal preference is to not have any sort of logic in Java enums (although Java provides the ability to do that). The discussion in this cased centered around having a convenience method inside the enum that returned a map: public enum PackageTypes { Letter("01", "Letter"), .. .. Tube("02", "Packaging Tube"); private String packageCode; private String packageDescription; .. .. public static Map<String, String> toMap() { Map<String, String> map = new LinkedHashMap<String, String>(); for(PackageType packageType : PackageType.values()) { map.put(packageType.getPackageCode(), packageType.getPackageDescription()); } return map; } } My personal preference is to pull this out into a service. The argument for having the method inside the enum centered around convenience. The idea was that you don't have to go to a service to get it, but can query the enum directly. My argument centered around separation of concern and abstracting any kind of logic out to a service. I didn't think "convenience" was a strong argument to put this method inside an enum. From a best-practices perspective, which one is better? Or does it simply come down to a matter of personal preference and code style?

  • Iterate over enum?

    - by Rosarch
    I'm trying to iterate over an enum, and call a method using each of its values as a parameter. There has to be a better way to do it than what I have now: foreach (string gameObjectType in Enum.GetNames(typeof(GameObjectType))) { GameObjectType kind = (GameObjectType) Enum.Parse(typeof (GameObjectType), gameObjectType); IDictionary<string, string> gameObjectData = PersistentUtils.LoadGameObject(kind, persistentState); } //... public static IDictionary<string, string> LoadGameObject(GameObjectType gameObjectType, IPersistentState persistentState) { /* ... */ } Getting the enum names as strings, then parsing them back to enums, feels hideous.

  • C++ enum in foreach

    - by Spencer
    I've have a card class for a blackjack game with the following enums: enum Rank { Ace, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, Ten, Jack, Queen, King }; enum Suit { Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts, Spades }; When I create the deck I want to write the code like this: // foreach Suit in Card::Suit // foreach Rank in Card::Rank // add new card(rank, suit) to deck I believe there is no foreach in c++. However, how do I traverse an enum? Thanks, Spencer

  • Enum as a Parameter in Dynamics AX

    - by Lauren
    My report has a parameter which uses a base enum. The enum has 4 different options to choose when running the report. How do I insert an option which uses all 4 at once? For example, I have an enum named Phone and it has 4 types: 1 = None, 2 = Home, 3 = Mobile, 4 = Work. In a drop down, how do I add option 5 = None+Home+Mobile+Work? Thank you!

  • Assigning an @Annotation enum a value

    - by h2g2java
    I created enum Restrictions{ none, enumeration, fractionDigits, length, maxExclusive, maxInclusive, maxLength, minExclusive, minInclusive, minLength, pattern, totalDigits, whiteSpace; public Restrictions setValue(int value){ this.value = value; return this; } public int value; } So that I could happily do something like this, which is perfectly legal syntax. Restrictions r1 = Restrictions.maxLength.setValue(64); The reason being is, I am using enum to restrict the type of restriction that could be used, and be able to assign a value to that restriction. However, my actual motivation is to use that restriction in an @annotation. @Retention(RetentionPolicy.RUNTIME) @Target({ElementType.TYPE, ElementType.FIELD, ElementType.METHOD}) public @interface Presentable { Restrictions[] restrictions() default Restrictions.none; } So that, I intended to do this: @Presentable(restrictions=Restrictions.maxLength.setValue(64)) public String userName; to which, the compiler croaks The value for annotation enum attribute must be an enum constant expression. Is there a way to accomplish what I wish to accomplish

  • Enum "copy" problem

    - by f0b0s
    Hi all! I have a class, let's call it A. It has a enum (E) and a method Foo(E e), with gets E in the arguments. I want to write a wrapper (decorator) W for A. So it'll have its own method Foo(A::E). But I want to have some kind of encapsulation, so this method should defined as Foo(F f), where F is another enum defined in W, that can be converted to A::E. For example: class A { public: enum E { ONE, TWO, THREE }; void Foo(E e); }; class B { //enum F; // ??? void Foo(F f) { a_.Foo(f); } private: A a_; }; How F should be defined? I don't want to copy value like this: enum F { ONE = A::ONE, TWO = A::TWO, THREE = A::THREE }; because its a potential error in the near feature. Is the typedef definition: typedef A::E F; is the best decision? Is it legal?

  • How do I implement this public accesible enum

    Hey guys, I'm trying to access my class's private enum. But I don't understand the difference needed to get it working compared to other members; If this works: private double dblDbl = 2; //misc code public double getDblDbl{ get{ return dblDbl; } } Why can I not do it with enum? private enum myEnum{ Alpha, Beta}; //misc code public Enum getMyEnum{ get{ return myEnum; } } //throws "Window1.myEnum" is a "type" but is used like a variable
