  • Does this singleton pattern make sense?

    - by dontWatchMyProfile
    @implementation MySingletonClass static MySingletonClass *sharedInstance = nil; + (MySingletonClass*)sharedInstance { @synchronized(self) { if (sharedInstance == nil) { sharedInstance = [[self alloc] init]; } } return sharedInstance; } + (id)alloc { @synchronized(self) { if (sharedInstance == nil) { sharedInstance = [super alloc]; return sharedInstance; } } return nil; } + (id)allocWithZone:(NSZone *)zone { @synchronized(self) { if (sharedInstance == nil) { sharedInstance = [super allocWithZone:zone]; return sharedInstance; } } return nil; } -(id)init { self = [super init]; if (self != nil) { // initialize stuff here } return self; } @end Not sure if it's ok to overwrite both alloc and allocWithZone: like this...?

  • iPad App design decision

    - by Comma
    I would like to develop a reader app for viewing and manipulating proprietary format documents. The documents are 2D. (Might add some cool page flip effects) The interface is similar to that of mobile safari. I'm trying to decide whether to write this in Quartz2D or OpenGL ES. I have no prior experience with either of those. Any suggestions?

  • Why won't my UITableViewCell deselect and update its text?

    - by Josh
    I have a UITableView with a list of stories and a cell at the bottom that loads more stories. I am trying to make the "More Stories..." cell deselect and change its text to "Loading..." when clicked. I have searched all over the internet and all over stackoverflow and I cant figure out why my code isnt working right. Right now, when the "More Stories..." cell is clicked, it stays selected and doesnt ever change its text. - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { // Navigation logic int storyIndex = [indexPath indexAtPosition: [indexPath length] - 1]; if (storyIndex == [stories count]) { UITableViewCell *moreCell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:@"more"]; if (moreCell == nil) { moreCell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleSubtitle reuseIdentifier:@"more"] autorelease]; } // Set up the cell moreCell.textLabel.text = @"Loading..."; [tableView deselectRowAtIndexPath:indexPath animated:YES]; [self moreStories]; } else { NSLog(@"%@",[[stories objectAtIndex: storyIndex] objectForKey: @"link"]); webViewController *webController; webController = [[webViewController alloc] initWithURLPassed:[[stories objectAtIndex: storyIndex] objectForKey: @"link"]]; [self.navigationController pushViewController:webController animated:YES]; [webController release]; webController =nil; self.navigationItem.backBarButtonItem = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithTitle:@"Back" style:UIBarButtonItemStylePlain target:nil action:nil]; } }

  • if (self = [super init]) vs. if ((self = [super init]))

    - by JOM
    Was just doing a code review and started to wonder: I thought if (self = [super init]) checks whether assigning return value of [super init] to variable self was successful or not (value of operation). Thus (self = nil) would actually be TRUE. I thought if ((self = [super init])) checks what is the value of self after assignment (value of variable). Thus ((self = nil)) would be FALSE. Which one is the correct way to use when initializing your own classes? Apple documentation uses the former one (for example here), which style I'm actually using now.

  • How can I run Gcov over an installed Cocoa application?

    - by Joe
    I have a Cocoa application which uses an installer. I want to be able to run code coverage over the code (after it has been installed). This is not the usual unit-test scenario where a single binary will run a suite of tests. Rather, the tests in question will interact with the UI and the app back-end whilst it is running, so I ideally want to be able to start the application knowing that Gcov is profiling it and then run tests against it. Any ideas?

  • NSTimer won't stop it only resets when invalidated & released

    - by J Fries
    When I press my stop button to stop the timer it just resets to the original time and begins counting down again. I have looked everywhere and all I have found is "invalidate" and it isn't working. I want the time to stop when I hit stop and the label to display the original time. I also turned off automatic counting so I could try releasing and it is giving me an error: 0x10e20a5: movl 16(%edx), %edx EXC_BAD_ACCESS (code=2, address=0x10) `NSTimer *rockettTimer; int rocketCount; @interface FirstViewController () @property (strong, nonatomic) IBOutlet UILabel *rocketTimer; - (IBAction)stopButton:(id)sender; - (IBAction)startButton:(id)sender; @end @implementation FirstViewController @synthesize rocketTimer; -(void) rocketTimerRun{ rocketCount = rocketCount - 1; int minuts = rocketCount / 60; int seconds = rocketCount - (minuts * 60); NSString *timerOutput = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d:%.2d", minuts, seconds]; rocketTimer.text = timerOutput; } - (IBAction)startButton:(id)sender { rocketCount = 180; rockettTimer = [NSTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:1.0 target:self selector:@selector(rocketTimerRun) userInfo:nil repeats:YES]; - (IBAction)stopButton:(id)sender { [rockettTimer invalidate]; //[rockettTimer release]; } - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; // Do any additional setup after loading the view, typically from a nib. } - (void)viewDidUnload { [self setRocketTimer:nil]; [super viewDidUnload]; // Release any retained subviews of the main view. } - (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation: (UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation { if ([[UIDevice currentDevice] userInterfaceIdiom] == UIUserInterfaceIdiomPhone) { return (interfaceOrientation != UIInterfaceOrientationPortraitUpsideDown); } else { return YES; } } @end`

  • formatting european characters from JSON results

    - by mlecho
    hi, i am building an application that imports JSON results and parses the objects to a table cell. Nothing fancy, but in my results, many of the terms/names are European with characters such as è or ú which come out as \u00E9 or \u00FA. I think these are ASCII ? or unicode? ( i can never keep em staight). Anyway, like all good NSSTring's, i figured there must be a method to fix this, but i am not finding it....any ideas? I am trying to avoid doing something like this: this posting. Thanks all.

  • Retrieving Relationships from within two arrays of pointers

    - by DanF
    In a portion of a program I'm working on, I need to count all the times each person has worked on projects with each other person. Let's say we have "Employee" entities and "Session" entities. In each session, there are four project types, "A", "B", "C", & "D", each a many-to-many relationship to Employees. I'm making a loop to systematically review every person a selected person has worked with. First, I put all their project types in a single array, so it's easier to loop through, but by the time I ask the last nested Project for its Employee members, I get an "unrecognized selector" error. IBOutlet NSArrayController * list; int x; for(x = 0; x < [list count]; x++){ NSArray *A = [[list objectAtIndex:x] valueForKey:@"projectAs"]; NSArray *A = [[list objectAtIndex:x] valueForKey:@"projectBs"]; NSArray *A = [[list objectAtIndex:x] valueForKey:@"projectCs"]; NSArray *A = [[list objectAtIndex:x] valueForKey:@"projectDs"]; NSArray *masterList = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects: projectAs, projectBs, projectCs, projectDs, nil]; int y; for(y = 0; y < [masterList count]; y++){ int z; for(z = 0; z < [[masterlist objectAtIndex:y] count]; z++){ //And now to make an Array of this employee's partners on the selected object, to run comparisons on. //I also have an array of keys for each session's teams, so that's what I'm referencing here: NSArray * thisTeam = [list objectAtIndex:y] objectAtIndex:z] valueForKey:projectKey]; This throws an exception... namely, -[_NSFaultingMutableSet objectAtIndex:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance What's wrong with that last Array creation?

  • UINavigationController's back button disappears?

    - by QAD
    I notice something strange happens to one of my view controller: the back button disappears, yet it's possible to go back to previous view controller by tapping the top left corner (i.e where the button should reside). In my entire file there's no line that set self.navigationItem.hidesBackButton to YES; also NSLog prints 0 as self.navigationItem.hidesBackButton's value in viewDidLoad. This occurs in both the simulator and real device. Any ideas?

  • Access problem with NSMutableArray

    - by pbcoder
    Hi, my problem is that I can't access my NSMutableArray in - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {}. I create my NSMutableArray here: nodes = [xmlDoc nodesForXPath:@"/xml/items/item/short_desc" error:nil]; if (nodes != nil && [nodes count] >= 1) { for (int i = 0; i < [nodes count]; i++) { CXMLElement *resultElement = [nodes objectAtIndex:i]; result = [[[[resultElement attributeForName:@"data"] stringValue] copy] autorelease]; [short_desc addObject:result]; } } and I can print out the content of short_desc everywhere with: NSLog([short_desc objectAtIndex:0]); but not in: - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { ..... NSString *date = [name objectAtIndex:0]; labelDate.text = date; ..... return cell;} if I use: - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { ..... NSString *date = @"text..."; labelDate.text = date; ..... return cell;} it works correctly. ANY SOLUTION FOR THIS PROBLEM???

  • Creating a button on a View from a second View

    - by BigJoke
    Hi, I have this app I'm working on, which on a second view asks (textfield) the name for a button to be created on first view. After specifying the name and pressing OK button, the first view pops up (as demanded) but there's no new button, although created indeed. Can I use the following code in a second view method, to "refresh" the first view before presenting itself. What's wrong with this code? Any other approach? Thank you. -(void)initWithView:(View1Controller *)aSuperview { theSuperview = aSuperview; } - (IBAction)itemNameButton { ... CGRect rectang; rectang = CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 460);// just in case [theSuperview.view setNeedsDisplayInRect:rectang]; ... }

  • Rendering CALayer in context uses large amounts of memory

    - by Otium
    I am taking a snapshot of a UIWebView layer, but when I render the webview's layer in the current context my app uses 10mb more memory, and I don't think that should be right. Here is my current code: CGSize imageSize = self.bounds.size; UIGraphicsBeginImageContextWithOptions(imageSize, YES, 0); CGContextRef context = UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext(); [self.layer renderInContext:context]; _snapshot = UIGraphicsGetImageFromCurrentImageContext(); UIGraphicsEndImageContext();

  • Core Data-Linking one-to-many relationships

    - by Stelmate
    I have a one-to-many relationship where each department has many employees. When I create a new employee object I just link it to the parent department manually by setting the property to the instance of the department I have fetched from my fetch request. However, this seems to be improper because when I try to access the set of employees from the department by simply accessing the .employees property on my department object instance it returns a 0 count. Isn't the fault suppose to fire once I access a property? Am I linking my parent/child objects incorrectly?

  • Problem with CFNetRegister

    - by xtrahotsauce
    I'm trying to work with CFNetServices by trying to start up and publish a service asynchronously. I'm trying to use the example code from here: http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/documentation/Networking/Conceptual/NSNetServiceProgGuide/Articles/CFNetServices.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/30001276-SW3, but CFNetRegisterWithOptions always fails. (CFNetRegister is deprecated now). When I print out the error struct, it looks like this: (gdb) p error $1 = { domain = 10, error = -72004 } Which doesn't seem correct to me. Does anyone know what might be wrong? Thanks!

  • (iphone) How to access CGRect member variable inside c++ class?

    - by Eugene
    i have a c++ class with CGrect variable and i'm getting segfault when trying to access it. class Parent { //with some virtual functions/dtors }; class Child { public: void SetRect(CGRect rect) { mRect = rect; } CGRect GetRect() { return mRect; } int GetIndex() { return mIndex; } private: CGRect mRect; int mIndex; }; i'm doing CGRect rect = childPtr->GetRect(); from object c code and it segfaults. I printed *childPtr just before the call and rect looks fine with intended data value. int index = childPtr->GetIndex(); from same object c code(*.mm), works fine though. Any idea why I'm getting segfaults? Thank you edit - It's got something to do with virtual functions. (gdb) p singlePuzzlePiece-GetRect() Program received signal EXC_BAD_ACCESS, Could not access memory. Reason: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at address: 0x00000001 0x00000001 in ?? () Cannot access memory at address 0x1 The program being debugged was signaled while in a function called from GDB. GDB remains in the frame where the signal was received. To change this behavior use "set unwindonsignal on" Evaluation of the expression containing the function (at 0x1) will be abandoned. (gdb) Somehow, the function is not properly compiled?
