  • How to calculate the y-pixels of someones weight on a graph? (math+programming question)

    - by RexOnRoids
    I'm not that smart like some of you geniuses. I need some help from a math whiz. My app draws a graph of the users weight over time. I need a surefire way to always get the right pixel position to draw the weight point at for a given weight. For example, say I want to plot the weight 80.0(kg) on the graph when the range of weights is 80.0 to 40.0kg. I want to be able to plug in the weight (given I know the highest and lowest weights in the range also) and get the pixel result 400(y) (for the top of the graph). The graph is 300 pixels high (starts at 100 and ends at 400). The highest weight 80kg would be plot at 400 while the lowest weight 40kg would be plot at 100. And the intermediate weights should be plotted appropriately. I tried this but it does not work: -(float)weightToPixel:(float)theWeight { float graphMaxY = 400; //The TOP of the graph float graphMinY = 100; //The BOTTOM of the graph float yOffset = 100; //Graph itself is offset 100 pixels in the Y direction float coordDiff = graphMaxY-graphMinY; //The size in pixels of the graph float weightDiff = self.highestWeight-self.lowestWeight; //The weight gap float pixelIncrement = coordDiff/weightDiff; float weightY = (theWeight*pixelIncrement)-(coordDiff-yOffset); //The return value return weightYpixel; }

  • Return NSString from a recursive function

    - by Dave
    Hi, I have a recursive function that is designed to take parse a tree and store all the values of the tree nodes in an NSString. Is the algorithm below correct? NSString* finalString = [self parseTree:rootNode string:@""]; -(NSString*)parseTree:(Node*)currentNode string:(NSMutableString*)myString { [myString appendText:currentNode.value]; for(int i=0;i<[currentNode.children length];i++){ return [self parseTree:[currentNode.children] objectAtIndex:i] string:myString]; } }

  • Is there a way to force CoreImage to use the GPU?

    - by NSSplendid
    We are having the following problem: a series of Core Image filters runs constantly in our program. When evaluating on my Macbook Pro, Core Image decides to schedule all graphics computation on the GPU, as expected. When using a MacPro, however, CI uses the CPUs! This is a problem, as we need them for other processing. [1] The question now is: Can one tell CI to run exclusively on the GPU? [1] Both hardware sets are of the newest kind. The MacPro has 8 Cores.

  • In-app settings controlled by plist?

    - by cannyboy
    Is there a library or good tutorial which covers creating in-app settings, like this: http://img.skitch.com/20090625-s8bf6ahybwe3cesd1id38h3nt.jpg What I would like is if it: doesn't use the built-in Settings app is controlled by a plist file with various Dictionaries and Arrays creates a nice looking table view allows text fields as well as switches and sliders and ticks etc doesn't have any of the annoying problems I've come across when trying to build my own version (not scrolling to show the textfield, cells disappearing) It would appear that the iphone dev world is crying out for such a thing. THANK YOU!

  • UINavigationController's back button disappears?

    - by QAD
    I notice something strange happens to one of my view controller: the back button disappears, yet it's possible to go back to previous view controller by tapping the top left corner (i.e where the button should reside). In my entire file there's no line that set self.navigationItem.hidesBackButton to YES; also NSLog prints 0 as self.navigationItem.hidesBackButton's value in viewDidLoad. This occurs in both the simulator and real device. Any ideas?

  • memory management: am i doing something wrong here?

    - by z s
    Hi, In a very small number of cases in my iphone app, I get a crash after the for loop in the code below: ABAddressBookRef addressBookInit = ABAddressBookCreate(); CFMutableArrayRef abContacts = (CFMutableArrayRef)ABAddressBookCopyArrayOfAllPeople(addressBookInit); // get array of all contacts CFArraySortValues (abContacts, CFRangeMake(0, CFArrayGetCount(abContacts)), (CFComparatorFunction)ABPersonComparePeopleByName, (void *)ABPersonGetSortOrdering()); NSArray *copypeople = (NSArray *) abContacts; NSMutableArray *tempTheadlist = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; for (int i=0; i < copypeople.count; i++) { NSAutoreleasePool *pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; ABRecordRef record = [copypeople objectAtIndex:i]; if (blah blah) [tempThreadList addObject: someObject]; [pool release]; } // POINT OF CRASH AFTER LOOP ENDS if (tempTheadlist.count > 0) [NSThread detachNewThreadSelector: @selector(loading_pictures:) toTarget:self withObject:tempTheadlist]; [tempTheadlist release]; [copypeople release]; CFRelease(addressBookInit); Any reason why it should crash at any point here?

  • Text being printed twice in uitableview

    - by user337174
    I have created a uitableview that calculates the distance of a location in the table. I used this code in cell for row at index path. NSString *lat1 = [object valueForKey:@"Lat"]; NSLog(@"Current Spot Latitude:%@",lat1); float lat2 = [lat1 floatValue]; NSLog(@"Current Spot Latitude Float:%g", lat2); NSString *long1 = [object valueForKey:@"Lon"]; NSLog(@"Current Spot Longitude:%@",long1); float long2 = [long1 floatValue]; NSLog(@"Current Spot Longitude Float:%g", long2); //Getting current location from NSDictionary CoreDataTestAppDelegate *appDelegate = (CoreDataTestAppDelegate *) [[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; NSString *locLat = [NSString stringWithFormat:appDelegate.latitude]; float locLat2 = [locLat floatValue]; NSLog(@"Lat: %g",locLat2); NSString *locLong = [NSString stringWithFormat:appDelegate.longitude]; float locLong2 = [locLong floatValue]; NSLog(@"Long: %g",locLong2); //Location of selected spot CLLocation *loc1 = [[CLLocation alloc] initWithLatitude:lat2 longitude:long2]; //Current Location CLLocation *loc2 = [[CLLocation alloc] initWithLatitude:locLat2 longitude:locLong2]; double distance = [loc1 getDistanceFrom: loc2] / 1600; NSMutableString* converted = [NSMutableString stringWithFormat:@"%.1f", distance]; [converted appendString: @" m"]; It works fine apart from a problem i have just discovered where the distance text is duplicated over the top of the detailed text label when you scroll beyond the height of the page. here's a screen shot of what i mean. Any ideas why its doing this?

  • Int Showing as Long Odd Value

    - by Josh Kahane
    Hi I am trying to send an int in my iphone game for game center multiplayer. The integer is coming up and appearing as an odd long integer value rather than the expected one. I have this in my .h: typedef enum { kPacketTypeScore, } EPacketTypes; typedef struct { EPacketTypes type; size_t size; } SPacketInfo; typedef struct { SPacketInfo packetInfo; int score; } SScorePacket; Then .m: Sending data: scoreData *score = [scoreData sharedData]; SScorePacket packet; packet.packetInfo.type = kPacketTypeScore; packet.packetInfo.size = sizeof(SScorePacket); packet.score = score.score; NSData* dataToSend = [NSData dataWithBytes:&packet length:packet.packetInfo.size]; NSError *error; [self.myMatch sendDataToAllPlayers: dataToSend withDataMode: GKMatchSendDataUnreliable error:&error]; if (error != nil) { // handle the error } Receiving: SPacketInfo* packet = (SPacketInfo*)[data bytes]; switch (packet->type) { case kPacketTypeScore: { SScorePacket* scorePacket = (SScorePacket*)packet; scoreData *score = [scoreData sharedData]; [scoreLabel setString:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"You: %d Challenger: %d", score.score, scorePacket]]; break; } default: CCLOG(@"received unknown packet type %i (size: %u)", packet->type, packet->size); break; } Any ideas? Thanks.

  • Why can't I make my parameter like this?

    - by mystify
    - (void)setPropertyValue:(const *void)inValue forID:(UInt32)propertyID { } The compiler doesn't like the const *void, for some reason. When I have that, it says: error: expected ')' before 'void' When I make the parameter like (UInt32)foo there is no problem. Does const *void only work in functions? I need a parameter which can be a "pointer to anything" like UInt32, Float64, etc.

  • iPhone view architecture question

    - by Joe
    So I have (for instance) three views: A: root view B: a view functionally identical to root C: a data entry view which collects a few piece of info What I'm trying to do is reuse C to supply the data it collects to either A or B. It should supply the data to whichever of the two it is pushed onto. The data for A is similar, but functionally distinct, to what collects for B. Right now, I'm passing data from C to A or B via a singleton class. What I'm trying to avoid is having two instances of C, one to supply data to A and B (because, in actuality, the program will have 5 total views like C. Does the question make sense?

  • Core Data: Detecting the type and casting it

    - by Tim Sullivan
    I have set up a Core Data model that includes an entity, Item with a 1-M relationship with the abstract entity Place, so that an item has many places. There are several entities with the parent set to Place. I want to set up several UI elements depending on the descendent place types. I have a loop that looks something like this: for (Place *place in item.places) { } ... but I'm not sure how to detect what type the place is, and how to cast it to the proper type so that I can access its properties. Thanks for any help!

  • Is there any way to force an iPhone application to relaunch?

    - by Jared P
    Basically -[UIApplication openURL:] would be perfect, if it wasn't for the fact that it doesn't work within the same application (at least on simulator -- if this works on device someone please tell me). It's not a super big deal though if it just relaunches w/o URLness since I can obviously just persist some data. The goal of this is to essentially free all memory in the application and call all of the loading procedures.

  • Detect iphone region

    - by camilo
    Hi. In my app, the user is supposed to insert a phone number, which is then displayed somewhere else. In the contacts application, when displaying a phone number, it automatically appears in the format of the language selected by the user. Is there a way to do this automatically, or a way to detect the region and then adapt the displayed string?

  • How do I get intellisense to pop up?

    - by TheLearner
    How do I get intellisense to pop up while I am coding? I know it pops up when I start typing a known type e.g.: if I type NSS it will finish it for me NSString. How do I get it to give me a bunch of options like in Visual Studio e.g.: if I type NS I want to see what my options are like NSString, NSInteger etc? And if I have not typed anything I still want a bunch of options like all the instance variables etc.

  • collapsing a UITableView

    - by Sage Washabaugh
    Hey everyone I made a UITableView in my app and when a cell is touched it expands the problem I am having is it does not collapse no matter what I have tried, I'm sure its something easy i just cant figure it out the only time it does collapse is when it another cell is tapped. Here is my code: -(void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { selectedCellIndexPath = indexPath; [tableView reloadRowsAtIndexPaths:[NSArray arrayWithObject:indexPath] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationNone]; if (selectedCellIndexPath) { selected = YES; } } -(CGFloat)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView heightForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { if(selectedCellIndexPath != nil && [selectedCellIndexPath compare:indexPath] == NSOrderedSame) return 150; return 44; }

  • Month TableView Organizer

    - by rson
    I need to create a table view with 1 or 2 sections, depending on certain conditions. The first section needs to contain all of the remaining months of the current year, and the second section contains the preceding months of the next year, up to but not including the current month. Example: 2009 November December 2010 January February March April May June July August September October This would be the scenario with the current month of November. However, if it were January, there would be only 1 section containing all 12 months of the current year. This all needs to be dependent on the date settings of the phone.
