• How to use Blazeds with a custom classloader?

  Hi, has anybody tried using a custom classloader with BlazeDS? We have a web application using BlazeDS and we can convert Java objects in to ActionScript object and back without problems in the main application. However, we also have a plug-in mechanism based on a custom classloader. BlazeDS cannot map the types contained in jar files of that custom classloader since I don't know how to tell it to BlazeDS. Has anybody already done this? The livedocs of TypeMarshallingcontext show a setClassloader() method, but since the context seems to be a singleton, I assume this will not work if you have multiple custom classloaders (we have 1 for each plugin that is deployed) regards, Wim

• What is the best way to remove accents in a python unicode string?

  I have a unicode string in python, and I would like to remove all the accents (diacritics). I found on the Web an elegant way to do this in Java: convert the unicode string to its long normalized form (with a separate character for letters and diacritics) remove all the characters whose unicode type is "diacritic". Do I need to install a library such as pyICU or is this possible with just the python standard library? And what about in python 3.0? Important note: I would like to avoid code with an explicit mapping from accented characters to their non-accented counterpart. Thanks for your help.

  I have a Project model and it has some text attributes, one is summary. I have some projects that have html tags in the summary and I want to convert that to plain text. I have this method that has a regex that will remove all html tags. def strip_html_comments_on_data self.attributes.each{|key,value| value.to_s.gsub!(/(<[^>]+>|&nbsp;|\r|\n)/,"")} end I also have a before_save filter before_save :strip_html_comments_on_data The problem is that the html tags are still there after saving the project.   Has anyone used Watir with IronRuby successfully? I am getting an error that the required file 'Watir' was not found. What path do I need to set to get this file to work in IronRuby? • Debugging ASP.NET Strings Downloaded to Browser (Montréal instead of Montréal)

  I'm downloading a vCard to the browser using Response.Write to output .NET strings with special accented characters. Mime type is text/x-vcard and French characters are appearing wrong in Outlook, for example Montréal;Québec .NET string shows as Montréal Québec in browser. I'm using this vCard generator code from CodeProject.com I've played with the System.Encoding sample code at the bottom of this linked MSDN page to convert the unicode string into bytes and then write the ascii bytes but then I get Montr?al Qu?bec (progress but not a win). Also I've tried setting content type to both us-ascii and utf-8 of the response. If I open the downloaded vCard in Windows Notepad and save it as ANSI text (instead of default unicode format) and open in Outlook it's okay. So my assumption is I need to cause download of ANSI charset but am unsure if I'm doing it wrong or have a misunderstanding of where to start. Update: Looking at the raw HTTP, it appears my French characters are being downloaded in the unexpected format so it looks like I need to do some work on the server side... (full size)

  Hello all, I have just realised if I add a particular record to my MySQL database - it will have a date/time of the server and not the particular user and where they are located which means my search function by date is useless! As they will not be able to search by when they have added it in their timezone rather when it was added in the servers timezone. Is there a way in Codeigniter to globally set time and date specific to a users location (maybe using their IP) and every time I call date() or time() that users timezone is used. What I am actually asking for is probably how to make my application dependent on each users timezone? Maybe its better to store each users timezone in their profile and have a standard time (servers time) and then convert the time to for each user? Thanks all

  I am trying to come up with a function that does a good job of sanitizing certain strings so that they are safe to use in the URL (like a post slug) and also safe to use as file names. For example, when someone uploads a file I want to make sure that I remove all dangerous characters from the name. • OutOfMemoryException with Image.Clone - Only on Windows 2003

  So here's my issue. I have an image that I need to shrink. The original image is a grayscale PNG, which isn't a huge issues except that when I shrink it down, the thermal label printers pickup the artifacts and print them on the label. So, what I did was change the image to black & white (Format1bppIndexed) before resizing, like this: Dim bte() As Byte = System.Convert.FromBase64String(imgStr) Dim ms As New IO.MemoryStream(bte) Dim bmp As New System.Drawing.Bitmap(ms) Dim monoImage As Drawing.Bitmap = New Drawing.Bitmap(1200, 1800, Drawing.Imaging.PixelFormat.Format1bppIndexed) Dim rect As New Drawing.Rectangle(0, 0, 1200, 1800) monoImage = bmp.Clone(rect, Drawing.Imaging.PixelFormat.Format1bppIndexed) And then I resize it. This code works fine on my Windows 7 machine, but when I run it on the Windows 2003 Server box that it calls home, it always throws an OutOfMemoryException when it hits the bmp.Clone line. Any ideas as to what's happening, or perhaps a better solution to converting the image to B&W?

(i am using Hiberante 3.3.1-GA) my model have these getters/setters for hibernate, i.e. internally i deal with byte[] so any getter/setter convert the byte[] to blog. I can create an initial object without problem, but if I try to change the content of the blob, the database column is not updated. • Flex: Dynamically create a preview image for a video....

  I'm using the VideoDisplay to play flv's, mov's, and mp4's and everything is working great. They are all being loaded via progressive download and are not being streamed. What I'd like to do is to grab a single specified frame (like whatever is being shown at the 10 second mark), convert it to a bitmap and use that bitmap as the preview image for the video. I'd like to do this at runtime so I don't have to create a preview image for every video that would be shown. Any idea's on how to do this? I'd rather not fake it by playing it - seeking for that specific frame and then pausing it but I may have no other choice?

• System.Reflection - Global methods aren't available for reflection

  I have an issue with a semantic gap between the CLR and System.Reflection. System.Reflection does not (AFAIK) support reflecting on global methods in an assembly. At the assembly level, I must start with the root types. My compiler can produce assemblies with global methods, and my standard bootstrap lib is a dll that includes some global methods. My compiler uses System.Reflection to import assembly metadata at compile time. It seems if I depend on System.Reflection, global methods are not a possibility. The cleanest solution is to convert all of my standard methods to class static methods, but the point is, my language allows global methods, and the CLR supports it, but System.Reflection leaves a gap. ildasm shows the global methods just fine, but I assume it does not use System.Reflection itself and goes right to the metadata and bytecode. Besides System.Reflection, is anyone aware of any other 3rd party reflection or disassembly libs that I could make use of (assuming I will eventually release my compiler as free, BSD licensed open source).

  I am on MAC OS X 10.5.5. I installed Calibre, a tool for converting e-book files from one format to another. It has a GUI as well as command line tools. I am trying to run the command line tool "any2mobi" to convert HTML files to MOBI pocket format or Kindle AZW format, with a TOC. I get the error "-bash: any2mobi: command not found". Clearly, any2mobi is not in my path. Where is it? I tried searching but came up empty. I installed version 0.6.0b6 of Calibre.

• VS2010 add-in custom menu item in files of Solution Explorer

  Hey guys, I need to create a custom menu item for Visual Studio 2010 Add-in in C#, but I have had no luck in coming with a solution anytime soon. I am aware that there was a similar post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2486818/visual-studio-add-in-adding-a-context-menu-item-to-solution-explorer But it did not help, as the blog follows the process through the integration package, and the video is done through VB. I had attempted to convert the VB syntax to the C# syntax, but about half way through the video, the Add-in methods has significantly changed from 2005 to 2010, as some of the methods have removed or changed. Is there any good tutorials on making a custom menu item on the Solution Explorer in the lastest Visual Studio in C#, and is there a good website that could be used as a reference for looking over the VS add-in API? I've used Microsoft's main website, however it is confusing and wordy, which is difficult to understand and find the methods, properties, or commands that I am looking for.   Hello World, I have a class Movie in it i have a start Date, a duration and a stop Date. Start and stop Date are Date Objects (private Date startDate ...) (It's an assignment so i cant change that) now i want to automatically calculate the stopDate by adding the duration (in min) to the startDate. By my knowledge working with the time manipulating functions of Date is deprecated hence bad practice but on the other side i see no way to convert the Date object to a calendar object in order to manipulate the time and reconvert it to a Date object. Is there a rails OAuth plugin that will work like this, or is there a better solution to protect the API? Note: I have found pelle's OAuth plugin, and it looks very robust, but it looks like it requires a callback URI, which the native apps would not have.
