• Is there a way to submit a batch of commands to a Cisco router and have them execute from the router?

  I need to change the configuration of a remote (6 hours' drive) client's Cisco 871 (IOS 12.4.15T) from my location because of some new internet service at his location. To be more precise, I need to change the default route, ip address of the outside interface (Fa4) and disable the PPPoE setup there. Unfortunately, doing any of this will (obviously) break the connection to the router. I do not have an out-of-band management modem set up (I know, I know). Is there any way to enter the commands I need to have run and have them execute one after the other, from a file on flash:? I have never tried anything like that before. Essentially a DOS-style batch file is exactly what I need. Nothing like it seems to be out there except using kron to execute CLI commands, but that is specified here as only taking EXEC commands, not configuration ones. Is there hope, or do I travel?

• XCP vm created via xl create doesn't show up in Xencenter neither in xe vm-list

• No HTTP Response from Tomcat 7 EC2 instance

  I am new to EC2 (and Tomcat, for that matter), and I am trying to deploy a vanilla Tomcat 7 server to an Ubuntu 12.04.1 EC2 instance and access the default test site over HTTP. My EC2 instance is running, and the Security Group includes port 80: My /etc/tomcat7/server.xml config has been edited to listen for HTTP requests on port 80: 0 I have restarted my Tomcat 7 server via sudo service tomcat7 restart. However, according to sudo netstat -lnp, Tomcat is not listed as listening over port 80: I am unable to get any response from going to the ...amazonaws.com public DNS in a web browser. What am I missing?

  I wonder is that possible for OS to make bad sectors on Hard Drive? Preface: I have bought new HDD on 1Tb WB Caviar Black. I have installed new OS on ext4 partition Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS. After few days S.M.A.R.T. of the Ubuntu's Disk Utility show that my hard has bad sectors! I have checked on S.M.A.R.T. immediately after installing OS - all was OK. During new OS working I have noticed some strange with HDD - all OS was freezed from 20 sec to 1 min and I have heard like HDD's engine restarting.   I've been updating my amazon ec2 micro instance every month till now. when i try to "yum update" i receive this error : zlib-1.2.5-7.11.amzn1.x86_64 has installed conflicts libxml2 < ('0', '2.7.7', None): libxml2-2.7.6-4.12.amzn1.x86_64 zlib-1.2.5-7.11.amzn1.x86_64 is a duplicate with zlib-1.2.3-27.9.amzn1.x86_64 yum update output: http://pastebin.com/Dfq0yphN I've tried to update separately zlib and libxml2 zlib: same "duplicate" error. libxml2: Transaction Check Error: package libxml2-2.7.8-10.24.amzn1.x86_64 is already installed what can i do?

• Does more heat generation mean more wear and tear?

  I read that hardware generally used on PC is not optimized for running Linux. That is the reason the machine emits large amount of heat and doesn't give the battery back up , that we will get while working on windows. ~REF Does it also mean more wear and tear of the hardware (when using linux as compared when using windows ) ? Note : I have personally experienced large heat emission while working with Fedora 16 and Ubuntu 11.xx on my laptop.

• File corruption when copying different file on raid 1

  I have a RAID 1 configuration of 2 1TB drives on a Fedora 12 box. Most of what is stored there are video files that are numerical labeled. The problem I'm having is that I had one of the video files get corrupted. I copied a replacement from a backup and replaced the bad file and now it works fine. However, after doing this the next numbered file goes from 350MB to 200KB and all but about .5 second of video disappears. If I then replace that file it happens to the next one down the line. Ex: Replace corrupt file 1.avi and file 2.avi shrinks to 200KB. Replace now corrupted 2.avi and it works but 3.avi gets screwed up. I have run SMART tests on the drives and they report fine. Does anyone have any tests I can run to try to figure out what is going on? EDIT: It is a two disk software RAID 1 with an ext4 filesystem

Does Ubuntu 10.04 allow you to resize existing partitions during the installation process in order to free up some space for the Ubuntu installation? • Clone a 2TB WD Green internal drive with bad sectors to a 3TB partitioned external

  I have a 2TB WD Black drive and would like to simply do a straight clone from a failing 3TB drive to it. Both are SATA. Will I be able to just install the new drive alongside the faulty one and then do the clone/rescue attempt with ddrescue or is there a better method? The faulty internal drive mentioned has bed sectors although am usually able to boot into Windows 7 Ultimate with it and navigate and access all my programs. I have been attempting some trials with an Ubuntu Live CD using ddrescue but am not sure I'm doing it right. I have a 3TB WD my book essential external which is GPT and have created a separate 2TB partition on it which I am trying to clone to. I assume I need to format the new drive first to NTFS? Can I do that via the Ubuntu Rescue Remix 12-04 live DVD that I've been booting with?

I have each customers details in a row and then each step of the journey in it's own cell in columns, with up to 12 steps for each customer. For example if I want to find the count of every customer who at any point in their journey has for example, downloaded a pdf and contacted us via email, what formula is best suited to this? • Unable to ping remote server Nagios

  We've recently set up Nagios on one of our Amazon EC2 instances to act as a monitoring server to our other instances. nrpe was installed on our staging server stager and appears to be working fine: monitoring_server~: /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_nrpe -H xx.xx.xx.xx -p 5666 NRPE v2.12 The issue is - when viewing the remote server stager within the Nagios admin screen - it appears to be 'DOWN'. The check_ping command reveals: monitoring_server~: /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_ping -H 'xx.xx.xx.xx' -w 5000,100% -c 5000,100% -p 1 PING CRITICAL - Packet loss = 100%|rta=5000.000000ms;5000.000000;5000.000000;0.000000 pl=100%;100;100;0 Can anyone provide some direction on how to get this working?   Code like on this page does not work in (my) Firefox 3.6 and also not in Fx4 (WinXPsp3) Works in IE8, Safari 5, Opera 11, Mozilla 1.7, Chrome 9 <meta http-equiv=refresh content="12; URL=meta2.htm"> <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="1; URL=http://fully_qualified_url.com/page2.html"> are completely ignored Not that I use such back-button killing things, but a LOT of sites do, possibly including my linux apache it seems when it wants to show a 503 error page... If I firebug or look at generated content, I do not see the refresh tag changed in any way so I am really curious what kind of plugin/addon could block me which is why I googled (in vain) for a known bug... In about:config I have accessibility.blockautorefresh; false so that is not it. I ran in safe mode and OH MY GOD, STACKEXCHANGE IS FULL OF ADS but no redirect

• Is it Secure to Grant Apache User Ownership of Directories & Files for Wordpress

  I'm currently setting up WordPress on an Ubuntu server 12 everything runs fine but there is an issue when it comes to automatically updating and uploading media via WP as Apache "www-data" user does not have permissions to write to the directories. "user1" has full permission All my directories have permissions of 0755 and files 644 my directories setup is as follows: /home/user1/public_html All WP files and directories are in "public_html" In order to work around the auto updating and uploading media I've granted Apache user ownership to the following directories sudo chown www-data:www-data wp-content -R sudo chown www-data:www-data wp-includes -R sudo chown www-data:www-data wp-admin -R I would like to know security wise how secure this is and if it is not secure what would be the best solution? That will allow me to keep all files and directories owned by user1 and still allow wp to be able to automatically update and uploading media

• Windows Server 2008: Limit UDP/TCP packets per IP or ban

  How I can limit UDP/TCP packets per IP send to my host (or better PORT) per second or minute ? Would be nice to ban that IP for 12/24 hours or even for ever. I got Windows Server 2008 and I'm very poor in Windows administration but quite good in Linux. EDIT: By basic problem is that They sending a lot of rubbish UPD and TCP packets.. TCP packets without SYNCH, fragmented UDP packets so my servers stop responding.. So I need to cut off users (IPs) sending more than X packets per second. I need solution witch provides me, somehow, configurable: X packets of certain type (UDP, TCP or both - lets say parameter named Z ) are allowed to be received by IP on Y port, otherwise this packet should be DROPPED. My virtual hosts are hosted by VirtualBox and I'm able to forward all incoming packets certain type and certain port to the specific Virtual Host, but I need to DROP them before my VirtualBox receive them.

• How do I increase copy/paste buffer size in Linux

  Hi all, I'm trying to copy and paste lines of code to the linux terminal. However, I've noticed that when the copied text is too long (let's say, 60 or more lines), it gets trimmed and altered in an apparently random way (e.g. some characters missing). I found the same problem in Ubuntu Karmic Koala, Fedora 10 and Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope. Any clue why this happens and if I can increase the size of safely copy/pasteable text? Thanks!

• Running Emacs on Multiple TTYs in screen

  When working with EMACS over SSH, is there any way to spawn a new frame of the same emacs session on a different terminal? In my use case, I have screen running, so I have multiple terminals, and can recover which pseudo terminal they're attached to with pts. Suppose I have two "windows" (in GNU screen parlance). The first one is attached to /dev/pts/12 and the second one is attached to /dev/pts/13. I launch emacs on the first window. Is there any way for me to start a new frame of the same session on the second window? I've been playing with passing arguments to make-frame but it seems that the usage that allows me to specify a terminal requires that a terminal object already exists, and I can't see any way to create a new terminal object.
