• Realtime MySQL search results on an advanced search page

  I'm a hobbyist, and started learning PHP last September solely to build a hobby website that I had always wished and dreamed another more competent person might make. I enjoy programming, but I have little free time and enjoy a wide range of other interests and activities. I feel learning PHP alone can probably allow me to create 98% of the desired features for my site, but that last 2% is awfully appealing: The most powerful tool of the site is an advanced search page that picks through a 1000+ record game scenario database. Users can data-mine to tremendous depths - this advanced page has upwards of 50 different potential variables. It's designed to allow the hardcore user to search on almost any possible combination of data in our database and it works well. Those who aren't interested in wading through the sea of options may use the Basic Search, which is comprised of the most popular parts of the Advanced search. Because the advanced search is so comprehensive, and because the database is rather small (less than 1,200 potential hits maximum), with each variable you choose to include the likelihood of getting any qualifying results at all drops dramatically. In my fantasy land where I can wield AJAX as if it were Excalibur, my users would have a realtime Total Results counter in the corner of their screen as they used this page, which would automatically update its query structure and report how many results will be displayed with the addition of each variable. In this way it would be effortless to know just how many variables are enough, and when you've gone and added one that zeroes out the results set. A somewhat similar implementation, at least visually, would be the Subtotal sidebar when building a new custom computer on IBuyPower.com For those of you actually still reading this, my question is really rather simple: Given the time & ability constraints outlined above, would I be able to learn just enough AJAX (or whatever) needed to pull this one feature off without too much trouble? would I be able to more or less drop-in a pre-written code snippet and tweak to fit? or should I consider opening my code up to a trusted & capable individual in the future for this implementation? • Looking for suggestions about an architecture of a MultiThreaded app.

  Hello everyone. I am looking to develop a multithreaded application that will be running in unconditional loop and processing high volume of data. High volume is 2000+ records per minute. Processing will involve data retrieval, calculations and data updates. I need the application to perform so that there is virtually no back log, meaning i need to be able to finish up all of the 2000 points in one minute or even faster. Our current implementation features a multithreaded application that is spawn multiple times (from 10 to 20) and we are noticing that it's not handling data as expected and i even feel that instances of the application compete with each other for processor time and eventually if not slowing, not benefiting each other for sure. I would like to know what would be the best approach: have a single instance running but maximize threads that can run simultaneously? or is there other ways i don't know? I'm open to suggestions. However, my data is like this: Array([0]=>data1, [1]=>data2, [2]=>data3,[3]=>data4,[4]=>pic1,[5]=>pic2,[6]=>pic3,[7]=>pic4); I want to display my table as |data1 | data2 |data3 |data4 |pic1 | pic2 |pic3 |pic4 I know how to display the data in the single ling like td or tr but not sure how to do tr and td on the same loop.   I've posted a code snippet on another forum asking for help and people pointed out to me that using GoTo statements is very bad programming practice. I'm wondering: why is it bad? What alternatives to GoTo are there to use in VB.NET that would be considered generally more of a better practice? Consider this snippet below where the user has to input their date of birth. • Reduce the number of queries in EF

  I have the following Model: Entities: Product (Contains basic data for products: price, etc) Attribute (Contains data for all possible optional attributes) ProductAttribute (Contains data for optional attributes of a product, eg. Color, Model, Size). ProductAttribute is essentially a many to many relationship with payload (ProductId, AttributeID, Value) And this piece of code: private static void ListAttributes(Product p) { p.ProductAttributes.Load(); foreach (var att in p.ProductAttributes) { att.Attribute.load(); Console.WriteLine("\tAttribute Name:{0} - Value {1}", att.Attribute.Name, att.AttributeValue); } } This piece of code will fire a query for each time the att.Attribute.Load() method is called in the foreach loop, only so i can get display the name of the attribute. I would like to fetch the Attribute.Name together with the query that fetches all attribute values, i.e. join ProductAttribute and Attribute. Is there any way to achieve this within my method?

  I have an associative array as follows: $myarray = array('a'=>array(), 'b'=>array(), 'c'=>array(), 'd'=>array()); I want to be able to get all pairs of elements in the array. If it wasn't an associative array, I would use nested for loops, like: for($i=0; $i<count($myarray); $i++) { for($j=$i+1; $j<count($myarray); $j++) { do_something($myarray[$i], $myarray[$j]); } } I have looked at using foreach loops, but as the inner loop goes through ALL elements, some pairs are repeated. Actuelly, I want to retrieve a large amount of data from an oracle database, so I write the code like this: sql = "Select * from CORE_DB where MC = '" & mstr & "' " Set myrs = db_execute_query(curConnection, sql) Then I count the rows in myrs,there are 248 rows. So then I do a For loop to retrieve some fields of each row. For k = 0 To db_get_rows_count(myrs) But then I found that the content of the row k when k 133 was always equal to k = 133. So this makes an error. As I think, there may be a limit size of mrys ? Could anyone light me about this? Thanks a lot in advance

• Elegant Method of Inserting Code Between Loops

  In web development, I often find I need to format and print various arrays of data, and separate these blocks of data in some manner. In other words, I need to be able to insert code between each loop, without said code being inserted before the first entry or after the last one. The most elegant way I've found to accomplish this is as follows: function echoWithBreaks($array){ for($i=0; $i<count($array); $i++){ //Echo an item if($i<count($array)-1){ //Echo "between code" } } } Unfortunately, there's no way that I can see to implement this solution with foreach instead of for. Does anyone know of a more elegant solution that will work with foreach?

  I am getting the date from my mysql database and that date is correct but when I use the date() function the minute part is stuck a 6 minutes. My mysql is returning 2010-06-15 09:59:18 Then in php I use this code: date('M d,Y H:m A',strtotime($row[4])) ** $row[4] is from my while loop ** When I echo this out I get: Jun 15,2010 9:06 AM I also have tried converting it to unix timestamp in my sql query, does the same thing. I noticed that the hours work and the seconds work but the minutes are stuck at 6. Does anyone have any ideas on what is going on?

• [java] Threading socket handler for two sided communication in tcp port

  I want to make a chat which will be programed in java. one computer will host the server and the other one will initiate the socket [tcp port]. now from what I read there should be a loop that will constantly read the socket which means it will make the code stuck. I have a button that is 'actionperformed' on mouse release, I want to know if it will work along with the loops that constantly reads the socket so that it will also send the infromation I wrote. If I must thread it, I want to know if the run() method must be void because if I thread it it will mean creating a new class, and the whole GUI is one big class which includes a text area, and it's private. also how can I extract the information from the socket directly to the text area? lets say the textarea variable is called "chatOutput". thx :)

• Highest populated dimension of an array vba

  Say i have an single dimension array (to keep it simple). Is there a simple way to tell how many entries are populated, or the highest dimension of populated entries, other than to loop through and count them? I know Ubound finds the highest dimension of the array but that's not what I need. Is there something like Ubound but it only find populated entries, or the highest dimension populated? Also, what if the array is multidimensional. I'm working in excel vba.

  I'm having an issue when I try to nest pound signs in my ColdFusion code. I keep getting the following error message: Invalid CFML construct found on line 57 at column 26. ColdFusion was looking at the following text: # Here is the code: <cfloop index="i" from="1" to="12"> <cfset needRecord.setNeed#i#(#form["need#i#"]#) /> </cfloop> If I run the loop outside the cfset tag like this: <cfloop index="i" from="1" to="12"> needRecord.setNeed#i#(#form["need#i#"]#) </cfloop> The code runs and generates what I would like to generate within the cfset tag. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Can I use Linq to project a new typed datarow?

• C++: FFMPEG and SDL resources

  I'm looking for resources (preferably books, but websites are fine too) for using FFMPEG and/or SDL with C++. Stuff I'd like to be able to do (eventually): Decode and play videos in realtime to a QT widget (the QT part isn't a problem) Overlay text and images on the video (in realtime) Loop video Cross-fade from one video to another (in realtime) Some kind of DVD functionality LIVE sources? (i.e. webcam, stream, etc.) So far I've looked at (and consider helpful) the following resources: FFMPEG and SDL Tutorial by Dranger (extremely helpful) StackOverflow: ffmpeg C API documentation/tutorial (not a duplicate, btw) Sample code bundled with FFMPEG libraries (I'll try and update this list with anything helpful below) Thanks for any help... Also: Operating System is Windows (but maybe one day cross-platform) Also 2: Resources using alternatives are welcome too... i.e. DirectShow, VFW, etc.

• C++ - Print Out Objects From Set

  If I have a C++ set, declaration set personList; with iterator, set::const_iterator location; how can I print out the contents of the set? They are all person objects, and I have overridden the operator<< for Person. The line that errors is: cout << location and it's in a basic for loop. Netbeans gives the following error: proj.cpp:78: error: no match for ‘operator<<’ in ‘std::cout << location’ so it looks like it wants an override for the iterator's <<. Basically, I am taking objects that used to be stored in an array format, but are now in a set. What is the equivalent to cout << array[i] for sets?

• Escaping if/else in Jade template

  So I have a simply block of html in my jade template with a loop: each dude, i in dudes div(class='someClass') div.otherStuff span.someContent #{name} I want to apply a data attribute to my top most div when a certain looping condition is met, in this case the first dude, I set it up like this each dude, i in dudes if i == 0 div(class='someClass, data-someAttr='first dude') else div(class='someClass') div.otherstuff span.someContent Setup like this it causes the div.otherStuff div and the span.someContent to only display on the else condition. I've moved the tab spaces around on those items but I can't get it escape that else and give the div.otherStuff and span.someContent to both the first dude and the subsequent dudes after that. I've also tried setting that data attr to a variable and trying to apply it that way but without any success. What I end up doing to get around it is this: each dude, i in dudes if i == 0 div(class='someClass, data-someAttr='first dude') div.otherstuff span.someContent else div(class='someClass') div.otherstuff span.someContent How do I escape that if/else so I dont have to duplicate the div.otherStuff and span.someContent?

  I have a table that stores a bunch of diagnosis for a single plan. When the users create a new plan I need to copy over all existing diagnosis's as well. I had thought to try the below but this is obviously not correct. I am guessing that I will need to loop through my oldDiagnosis part, but how? Thanks!   Hi there . I'm confusing about opening different threads with OpenThread Function and examining them with NtQueryInformationThread native function . I have no problem with NtQueryInformationThread & I can examine them finely. the problem is I don't know how to loop through different number of threads using OpenThread (with SetDebugPrivilege Consideration) . suppose we have different threads from number 5100 to 5200 & we want to examine them sequentially : for example 5100, 5101, 5102, 5103, 5104, 5105 ... 5200 ... . I don't know how to use OpenThread Function in delphi in right way ... . I'm using this syntax & I found it wrong : OpenThread(THREAD_ALL_ACCESS,false,(DWORD)5100) . if anyone could guide me how to use OpenThread though different number of threads it would be great . thanks alot .

• Sorting 1000-2000 elements with many cache misses

  I have an array of 1000-2000 elements which are pointers to objects. I want to keep my array sorted and obviously I want to do this as quick as possible. They are sorted by a member and not allocated contiguously so assume a cache miss whenever I access the sort-by member. Currently I'm sorting on-demand rather than on-add, but because of the cache misses and [presumably] non-inlining of the member access the inner loop of my quick sort is slow. I'm doing tests and trying things now, (and see what the actual bottleneck is) but can anyone recommend a good alternative to speeding this up? Should I do an insert-sort instead of quicksorting on-demand, or should I try and change my model to make the elements contigious and reduce cache misses? OR, is there a sort algorithm I've not come accross which is good for data that is going to cache miss?
