• Java Passing variables around classes

- by nazerb
I am new to java and am trying to pass variables like in the following example from one class to another, im wondering is this possible and how i would go about it if it is. As this code does not work as it is not static. Main Class public class testAll { public static void main(String[] args) { One one = new One(); Two two = new Two(); } } The first class: public class One { public int test = 4; public int getTest() { return this.test; } } The second class: public class Two { public void value() { System.out.print("Var is: " + One.getTest()); } } Thanks, Naz

• speed up calling lot of entities, and getting unique values, google app engine python

- by user291071
OK this is a 2 part question, I've seen and searched for several methods to get a list of unique values for a class and haven't been practically happy with any method so far. So anyone have a simple example code of getting unique values for instance for this code. Here is my super slow example. class LinkRating2(db.Model): user = db.StringProperty() link = db.StringProperty() rating2 = db.FloatProperty() def uniqueLinkGet(tabl): start = time.time() dic = {} query = tabl.all() for obj in query: dic[obj.link]=1 end = time.time() print end-start return dic My second question is calling for instance an iterator instead of fetch slower? Is there a faster method to do this code below? Especially if the number of elements called be larger than 1000? query = LinkRating2.all() link1 = 'some random string' a = query.filter('link = ', link1) adic ={} for itema in a: adic[itema.user]=itema.rating2

• Adding items to dictionary if condition is true, else dont - python

- by CodeTalk
I'm trying to take an existing process: if self.path_object is not None: dictpath = {} for path in self.path_object: self.params = path.pathval.split("?")[0] self.params = path.pathval.split("&", 2) if path.pathval.contains(self.params): out = list(map(lambda v: v.split("=")[0] +"=" + str(self.fuzz_vectors), self.params)) else: pass dictpath[path] = out print dictpath I added the sub-if/else block in, but it is failing, stating: AttributeError: 'unicode' object has no attribute 'contains' on the if block . How can I fix it? I'm simply trying to do: if the path.pathval has either ? or & in it: add to dictionary else: pass #forget about it. Thanks!

• How to make pytest display a custom string representation for fixture parameters?

- by Björn Pollex
When using builtin types as fixture parameters, pytest prints out the value of the parameters in the test report. For example: @fixture(params=['hello', 'world'] def data(request): return request.param def test_something(data): pass Running this with py.test --verbose will print something like: test_example.py:7: test_something[hello] PASSED test_example.py:7: test_something[world] PASSED Note that the value of the parameter is printed in square brackets after the test name. Now, when using an object of a user-defined class as parameter, like so: class Param(object): def __init__(self, text): self.text = text @fixture(params=[Param('hello'), Param('world')] def data(request): return request.param def test_something(data): pass pytest will simply enumerate the number of values (p0, p1, etc.): test_example.py:7: test_something[p0] PASSED test_example.py:7: test_something[p1] PASSED This behavior does not change even when the user-defined class provides custom __str__ and __repr__ implementations. Is there any way to make pytest display something more useful than just p0 here? I am using pytest 2.5.2 on Python 2.7.6 on Windows 7.

• Semicolon in object variable name

- by milkfilk
There's a common LDAP attribute called userCertificate;binary. It actually has a semi-colon in the attribute name. In ruby, I turn an LDAP entry into a OpenStruct object called 'struct'. struct.class = OpenStruct But of course ruby thinks it's an end-of-line character. ? struct.userCertificate;binary NameError: undefined local variable or method `binary' for main:Object from (irb):52 from :0 IRB knows that the local variable is there, because it gives me struct.userCertificate;binary from the tab auto-completion. I can also see the class variable when calling struct.methods on it. struct.methods = ... "send", "methods", "userCertificate;binary=", "hash", ... It's definitely there, I can see the contents if I print the whole variable to_s(). But how can I access the local variable when it has a semicolon in it? I have workarounds for this but I thought it was an interesting problem to post.

• Distinguish between a single click and a double click in Java

- by user552279
Hi, I search the forum and see this codes: public void mouseClicked(MouseEvent e) { if (e.getClickCount() == 2) { System.out.println(" and it's a double click!"); wasDoubleClick = true; } else { Integer timerinterval = (Integer) Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getDesktopProperty( "awt.multiClickInterval"); timer = new Timer(timerinterval.intValue(), new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent evt) { if (wasDoubleClick) { wasDoubleClick = false; // reset flag } else { System.out.println(" and it's a simple click!"); } } }); timer.setRepeats(false); timer.start(); } } but the code runs incorrectly(Sometime it prints out " and it's a single click!" 2 times . It should print out " and it's a double click!"). Can anybody show me why? or can you give me some better ways to do this? Thank you!

Then after the list is made navigate it and if a number is even remove it from the ArrayList and copy it to a stack of integers. import java.io.* ; import java.util.*; public class Test { public static void main(String[] args){ Scanner input = new Scanner (System.in); ArrayList<Integer> integers = new ArrayList<Integer>(); System.out.print ("Enter Number: \n"); for (int i = 0; i < 10; i++){ integers.add(input.nextInt()); } for (int i = 0; i < 10 ; i++){ if (i %2==0) } } }

• How can I ignore C comments when I process a C source file with Perl?

- by YoDar
I'm running a code that read files, do some parsing, but need to ignore all comments. There are good explanations how to conduct it, like the answer to How can I strip multiline C comments from a file using Perl? $/ = undef; $_ = <>; s#/\*[^*]*\*+([^/*][^*]*\*+)*/|("(\\.|[^"\\])*"|'(\\.|[^'\\])*'|.[^/"'\\]*)#defined $2 ? $2 : ""#gse; print; My first problem is that after run this line $/ = undef; my code doesn't work properly. Actually, I don't know what it does. But if I could turn it back after ignoring all comments it will be helpful. In general, What is the useful way to ignore all comments without changing the rest of the code?

• Newbie question about file formatting in Python

- by user568041
I'm writing a simple program in Python 2.7 using pycURL library to submit file contents to pastebin. Here's the code of the program: #!/usr/bin/env python2 import pycurl, os def send(file): print "Sending file to pastebin...." curl = pycurl.Curl() curl.setopt(pycurl.URL, "http://pastebin.com/api_public.php") curl.setopt(pycurl.POST, True) curl.setopt(pycurl.POSTFIELDS, "paste_code=%s" % file) curl.setopt(pycurl.NOPROGRESS, True) curl.perform() def main(): content = raw_input("Provide the FULL path to the file: ") open = file(content, 'r') send(open.readlines()) return 0 main() The output pastebin looks like standard Python list: ['string\n', 'line of text\n', ...] etc. Is there any way I could format it so it looks better and it's actually human-readable? Also, I would be very happy if someone could tell me how to use multiple data inputs in POSTFIELDS. Pastebin API uses paste_code as its main data input, but it can use optional things like paste_name that sets the name of the upload or paste_private that sets it private.

• Unix - "xargs" - output "in the middle" (not at the end!)

- by Petike
Hello, example use of "xargs" application in Unix can be something like this: ls | xargs echo which is the same as (let's say I have "someFile" and "someDir/" in the working dir): echo someFile someDir so "xargs" take its "input" and place it "at the end" of the next command (here at the end of echo). But sometimes I want xargs to place its input somewhere "in the middle" of next command. For example: find . -type f -name "*.cpp" -print | xargs g++ -o outputFile so if I had in the current directory files "a.cpp" "b.cpp" "c.cpp" the output would be the same as with the command: g++ -o outputFile a.cpp b.cpp c.cpp but I want to have something like this: g++ a.cpp b.cpp c.cpp -o outputFile Is there a way to do it? P.S.: I need it in some cases, because e.g.: i586-mingw32msvc-g++ -o outputFile `pkg-config --cflags --libs gtkmm-2.4` a.cpp b.cpp c.cpp doesn't work but this one works fine: i586-mingw32msvc-g++ a.cpp b.cpp c.cpp -o outputFile `pkg-config --cflags --libs gtkmm-2.4` Thanks. • What is the standard way to add an icon to a link with CSS?

- by ewernli
I'm used to use padding + background-image to place an icon next to a link. There are many example of this approach. Here is one from here: link a.external { padding-right: 15px; background: transparent url(images/external-link-icon.gif) no-repeat top right; } But most browser don't print background image, which is annoying. What is the standard to place icon next to links which is semantically correct and works in all cases? (I couldn't find an exact similar question. If there is one, just close this one as duplicate)

• Selecting peculiar XML tags with phpQuery

- by Aristotle
phpQuery is a really nice tool which has helped me tremendously in the past parse well-formed XHTML and XML documents, but I have recently run into a problem trying to select elements that have colons in their tagname, such as the following: <isc:thumb>http://example.com/foo_thumb.jpg</isc:thumb> I've tried to use the pq() function to select all of these elements: foreach ( pq("isc:thumb") as $thumbnail ) { print pq( $thumbnail )->text(); } Unfortunately this is doing nothing. If I try another element, like a tagname of id, the results pop up as expected.

• Turing's Craft exercise stumped me... seems too easy.

- by Chris
"Write a for loop that prints the integers 1 through 40, separated by spaces or new lines. You may use only one variable, count which has already been declared as an integer." So I use... for(count = 1; count <= 40; count++) { cout << " " << count; } but they are using stdio.h as the only header and cout is not recognized. It hints that the output format should be (" ",count), but I can't figure out what print function to use. stdio.h can use fprintf or fwrite, but I don't have enough parameters for either function. Any ideas?

• Ajax / GroovyGrails Post data coming over with unexpected leading character. Who is encoding/decod

- by ?????
I'm having an encoding issue, and I'm not sure where to look for the problem. I have this Ajax.Request function (prototype library) sending data to a Groovy/Grails encoder var myAjax = new Ajax.Request(url, {method:'post', encoding:'UTF-8', contentType:'application/x-www-form-urlencoded', parameters:{'content':new_content}, onSuccess:success, onFailure:failure}); The data is coming in with an unexpected %A0 at the beginning: I have this simple controller that just echos the content back: def titlechange = { def content = URLDecoder.decode(params['content']) printf("Content: %s; DecodedContent = %s\n", params['content'], content) response.characterEncoding='UTF-8' render content } the debug print statement shows: Content: %A0Hello%2C%20world%21; DecodedContent = †Hello, world! Where is that %A0 coming from? My grails configuration has this: // The default codec used to encode data with ${} grails.views.default.codec="none" // none, html, base64 grails.views.gsp.encoding="UTF-8" grails.converters.encoding="UTF-8 Is the issue on the grails side or on the JavaScript side?

•
and
in Safari

- by AJ
I trying to print a page with multiple tables. The problem is that any of these tables may break and carry over to the next page. Have been trying to get the table header to repeat on the second page. Am currently using thead and setting the display property to table-header-group. This works just as expected in IE and firefox but the header will not repeat in Safari. Since we are using software that converts our page to a pdf document for printing...and the 3rd party software uses a Safari engine, we are stuck with this problem. Does anyone know a way / workaround to make headers repeat if the table spans multiple pages in Safari?

• dynamic access magic constants in php

- by Radu
Hello, Is there a way to shortcut this: function a($where){ echo $where; } function b(){ a(basename(__FILE__).'::'.__FUNCTION__.'()::'.__LINE__); } to something like this: define("__myLocation__", ''.basename(__FILE__).'::'.__FUNCTION__.'()::'.__LINE__.''); function a($where){ echo $where; } function b(){ a(__mYLocation_); } I know that this cannot be done with constants (is just an theoretical example), but I can't find a way to shorthen my code. If a use a function to get my line it will get the line where that function is not the line from where the function was called. I usualy call a function that prints directly to the log file, but in my log I need to know from where the function was called, so i use basename(__FILE__).'::'.__FUNCTION__.'()::'.__LINE__ this will print something like: index.php::b()::6 It is a lot of code when you have over 500 functions in different files. Is there a shorten or better way to do this? Thank you.

• Modify bash variables with sed

- by Alexander Cska
I am trying to modify a number of environmental variables containing predefined compiler flags. To do so, I tried using a bash loop that goes over all environmental variables listed with "env". for i in $(env | grep ipo | awk 'BEGIN {FS="="} ; { print $1 } ' ) do echo $(sed -e "s/-ipo/ / ; s/-axAVX/ /" <<< $i) done This is not working since the loop variable $i contains just the name of the environmental variable stored as a character string. I tried searching a method to convert a string into a variable but things started becoming unnecessary complicated. The basic problem is how to properly supply the environmental variable itself to sed. Any ideas how to properly modify my script are welcome. Thanks, Alex

• Produce high-quality, custom-size thumbnails from Office documents on Windows?

- by Edwin
Hi, What do you think would be the best way to produce custom size image thumbnail from MS Office documents (doc, xls and ppt) on Windows with native code (means all means besides .NET/JAVA)? My current research result: IExtractImage COM. Problem: The size of the generated result is fixed and low quality, and you can't be sure all the source documents contain the thumbnails. Use a programmable virtual printer to print the specified page, and the printer must support image output, any good suggestion for this? What else would you suggest? thanks!

I'm currently trying to write a script that gets messages from my gmail account but I'm noticing a problem. If poplib loops through a message in my inbox it will never loop through it again. Here is my code import poplib, string, email user = "[email protected]" password = "p0ckystyx" message = "" mail = poplib.POP3_SSL('pop.gmail.com') mail.user(user) mail.pass_(password) iMessageCount = len(mail.list()[1]) message = "" msg = mail.retr(iMessageCount) str = string.join(msg[1], "\n") frmMail = email.message_from_string(str) for part in frmMail.walk(): if part.get_content_type() == "text/plain": print part.get_payload() mail.quit() Every time I run this script it goes to the next newest email and just skips over the email that was shown last time it was run.
