• Display processes that access a folder.

  I am trying to write a simple program, preferably in C, that will watch a given directory. Whenever a process accesses that directory, I just want to print out the name of that process. It seems simple, but I am coming up short for solutions on MSDN. Does anyone know which library calls I will need for this, or any helpful advice? I have considered repeatedly querying for what processes have handles on the given directory and just watching for additions to that list.This approach just seems very intensive and I am hoping there is an easier way. • String Storage and Retrieval in Android

  I have a program that has items with 3 attributes. Name(String) : Count(String) : Amount(String) Currently I am writing the database when someone is trying to access a section then reading from the database. The writing is taking too long. So my question is how can I perhaps create a nested array where I can say if name = carrot then print carrot['count'] and carrot['amount']. I am very new to Java so some sample code would be great. Or any other suggestions that you may have as far as tackling this issue.

• Why this code does not do what I mean?

But what I get is: self-powering: [ri?] My guess is something's wrong with the code $h{$2}=~/?$/ It seems that when I use $h{$2}!~/?$/ Perl will do what I mean but why I can't get "self-powering: selfpau?ri?"? • Java: PriorityQueue returning incorrect ordering from custom comparator??

  I've written a custom comparator to compare my node classes, but the java priority queue is not returning my items in the correct order. Here is my comparator: public int compare(Node n1, Node n2){ if (n1.getF() > n2.getF()){ return +1; } else if (n1.getF() < n2.getF()){ return -1; } else { // equal return 0; } } Where getF returns a double. However after inserting several Nodes into the priority queue, I print them out using: while(open.size() > 0) { Node t = (Node)(open.remove()); System.out.println(t.getF()); } Which results in: 6.830951894845301 6.830951894845301 6.0 6.0 5.242640687119285 7.4031242374328485 7.4031242374328485 8.071067811865476 Any ideas why this is so? • Java multidimensional array and scanner novice Q

  I'm new to Java and trying to in essence implement a grid with a character, and if the user inputs 'w' 'a' 's' or 'd' the character moves up/down/left/right within the plane. I created a multidimensional array sized 10x10 public static String[][] grid = new String[10][10]; And then just used a for loop to print "*"s in a 10x10 grid, except for grid[a][b] which is equal to character "A" i.e. my thing to be moved around. That seemed to work alright, then I needed to detect the 'wasd' input from the user so I set up a: Scanner in = new Scanner (System.in); while (in.hasNext()) And I had then: String s = in.next(); char ch = s.charAt(0); switch (ch) but I couldn't make this work, and it wasn't because I didn't complete the "switch" statement, I did, I just see it void copying and pasting the entire thing. I'm sure its incredibly easy slight thing I am missing, can you please point it out for me?

• BeautifulSoup Parser Confusion - HTML

  I'm trying to scrape some content off another site and I'm not sure why BeautifulSoup is producing this output. It is only finding a blank space inside the match, but the real HTML contains a large amount of markup. I apologize if this is something stupid on my part. I'm new to python. • Python check if object is in list of objects

  Hi, I have a list of objects in Python. I then have another list of objects. I want to go through the first list and see if any items appear in the second list. I thought I could simply do for item1 in list1: for item2 in list2: if item1 == item2: print "item %s in both lists" However this does not seem to work. Although if I do: if item1.title == item2.title: it works okay. I have more attributes than this though so don't really want to do 1 big if statement comparing all the attributes if I don't have to. Can anyone give me help or advise on what I can do to find the objects which appear in both lists. Thanks

• How can I access the int values of an object in an NSMutableArray?

  I try to access some values in a NSMutableArray I created, but I only get some numbers (address?) if I try to access them. I was able to initialize an array and can add and change objects with [myNSMutableArray addObject:[NSNumber numberWithInt:10]] and [myNSMutableArray replaceObjectAtIndex:0 withObject:[NSNumber numberWithInt:47] I also can print the value at index [0] with NSLog(@"%@", [myNSMutableArray objectAtIndex:0]); and I get 47 as expected. But how can I access the integer value of the object in the array so I can save it tomyIntValue?

  What is better/faster to use: #! perl or #! perl.exe or #! fullpath/perl(/perl.exe) or #! partialpath/perl(/perl.exe) ? And, when using "#! perl", when it works on a particular system, what is the print() for showing the full path to perl.exe, that could be included into the Shebang Line ? And, if using a /path/path/perl, are "*" or "..." allowed to be used for the folders ?

• Can you make a python script behave differently when imported than when run directly?

  I often have to write data parsing scripts, and I'd like to be able to run them in two different ways: as a module and as a standalone script. So, for example: def parseData(filename): # data parsing code here return data def HypotheticalCommandLineOnlyHappyMagicFunction(): print json.dumps(parseData(sys.argv[1]), indent=4) the idea here being that in another python script I can call import dataparser and have access to dataParser.parseData in my script, or on the command line I can just run python dataparser.py and it would run my HypotheticalCommandLineOnlyHappyMagicFunction and shunt the data as json to stdout. Is there a way to do this in python?

  I have code similar to the following running in a script: try: s = ftplib.FTP('xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx','username','password') except: print ('Could not contact FTP serer') sys.exit() IF the FTP site is inaccessible, the script almost seems to 'hang' ... It is taking about 75 seconds on average before sys.exit() appears to be called... I know the 75 seconds is probably very subjective, and dependent on the system this runs on...but is there a way to have python just try this once, and if unsucessful, to exit immediately? The platform I am using for this is Mac OS X 10.5/python 2.5.1.

  I am trying to modify a number of environmental variables containing predefined compiler flags. To do so, I tried using a bash loop that goes over all environmental variables listed with "env". for i in $(env | grep ipo | awk 'BEGIN {FS="="} ; { print $1 } ' ) do echo $(sed -e "s/-ipo/ / ; s/-axAVX/ /" <<< $i) done This is not working since the loop variable $i contains just the name of the environmental variable stored as a character string. I tried searching a method to convert a string into a variable but things started becoming unnecessary complicated. The basic problem is how to properly supply the environmental variable itself to sed. Any ideas how to properly modify my script are welcome. Thanks, Alex

  In the embedded system I'm working on, we are using a table of function pointers to support proprietary Dynamic Libraries. We have a header file that uses named constants (#define) for the function pointer indices. These values are used in calculating the location in the table of the function's address. Example: *(export_table.c)* // Assume each function in the table has an associated declaration typedef void (*Function_Ptr)(void); Function_Ptr Export_Function_Table[] = { 0, Print, Read, Write, Process, }; Here is the header file: *export_table.h* #define ID_PRINT_FUNCTION 1 #define ID_READ_FUNCTION 2 #define ID_WRITE_FUNCTION 3 #define ID_PROCESS_FUNCTION 4 I'm looking for a scheme to define the named constants in terms of their location in the array so that when the order of the functions changes, the constants will also change. (Also, I would like the compiler or preprocessor to calculate the indices to avoid human mistakes like typeo's.)
