• Radeon hd 6570 black screen

  I got some problem with new graphic card. Every time I use AMD Catalyst drivers on Windows or Linux, screen repeatedly goes black. This usually shows u when i open new cards in a browser, resize a window or run a program. Card runs smoothly on basic drivers but this means low resolution. 1940x1080 is native for my monitor so it causes a lot of problems. I've got a 600W Deus G1, so the power is not the problem. Maybe its a silly question, but would going form a vga cable to hdmi help to improve this situation? If not, can it be caused by slow processor or old mainboard? Im getting kinda confused about this whole thing...

• Multiple monitors on ATI Radeon HD 5450 1GB DDR2 (Brand: Sapphire)

  From other posts here, I understand that it might be possible to use up to 3 monitors on this card. My understanding (from the other posts here as well) is that since I have a HDMI output, I do not have a 'DisplayPort', right ? Mine has indeed 3 ports: DVI, HDMI and VGA. Can I have dual-monitor using both the HDMI and DVI ports simulataneously (I am not looking for Eyefinity, but simply extended desktop). Currently I am using dual monitor with DVI and VGA but will replace my 17 inches next week with a new (larger) one that has both VGA and DVI, so I intend to use both monitors connected digitally. I intend to purchase a cable ''HDMI to DVI''(MM) to do so on the second monitor. Optimal resolution on the one I intend to keep (22 inches) : 1680 x 1050, primary monitor. New one (24 inches) has an optimal resolution of 1920 x 1080. Am I running for problems ? Thanks, Rob

• How to get external 2.5 inch HD enclosure get recognised

  I am completely out of ideas. I have 2.5inch HDD from my old laptop, I have tried with 2 different HDD enclosures but my desktop does not recognize it. Not even showing in the disk management or BIOS. The HDD works fine if I use in a 3.5 inch enclosure with external power. I have tried 3 different Y USB cables. I have also got a 7 port self powered 2A USB hub. I have updated my chipset drivers as well. The problem is with my desktop , the enclosures work fine with my new laptop. • Maximum burn speed keeps decreasing from Nero?

  I have a 16x DL DVD burner in my work machine (XP SP3). I'm using 8x TDK DVD+R media. The first dozen or so disks burned fine using Nero, but after that I started to coaster every disk. I asked Nero to calculate the maximum speed, and it calculated it at 4x. This worked for a few disks, then the same issues. I'm currently burning at 1.2x. I've since tried other brands and full 16x compatible disks, I can't get my burn speed to be recognized as any faster than what it's currently at. I've tried uninstalling Nero. I've tried burning directly in Windows, and also tested an MP3 CD in iTunes, and no luck. Any suggestions, short of reinstalling Windows, would be great!

  I was wondering for a long time if source based Linux distributions, like Gentoo or Funtoo are "destroying" your system faster than binary ones (like Fedora or Debian). I'm talking about CPU and hard drive degradation. Of course, when you're updating your system, it has to compile everything from source, so it takes longer and your CPU is used at hard conditions (it is warmer and more loaded). Such systems compile hundreds of packages weekly, so does it really matter? Does such a system degrade faster than binary based ones?

• Bad HD video deinterlacing processing

  I have Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit with Unity. My system configuration is: CPU: Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4 GHz) RAM: 8192 Mb DDR2 Kingston Video: Palit GeForce GTX 260 216 SP, and my screen resolution is 1680x1050. I also have Window 7 Ulitimate installed, and I can see the same files in Media Player Classic without any horizontal lines. I've installed vdpau driver, NVIDIA drivers 304.51, and MPlayer 2 (within SMPlayer). I've disabled "Sync to VBlank" option in CCSM (because in other way, by default, MPlayer process use about 50-60 percents of my processor load), tried to swich between different deinterlace options in SMPlayer, used "-vc ffh264vdpau,ffmpeg12vdpau" (without quotes) parameters for MPlayer, switched to "Ubuntu 2D", but, finally, have no results. Any suggestions? How must I to set up MPlayer?

• Need to automount dvd or cdrom at fixed mount point in Ubuntu 11.04

  Ubuntu 11.04, by default, automounts a cdrom or dvd at /media/<vol_name>. I need to make the automounting system use a fixed name instead of the volume name for all CDs or DVDs inserted into this particular drive, e.g. "/media/op-drive0". A bit of searching turns up pretty much the same solution I used, successfully, on an older, gentoo box, which is to create an fdi file for hal, along the lines of the instructions at https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=91450. This doesn't seem to work on this box. Other sources say to use the gnome-mount utility to set the mounting properties. Ubuntu 11.04 doesn't know about the gnome-mount program. Any ideas?

  I have the same problem as described in this question: http://superuser.com/questions/105928/dvd-cd-rom-drives-stop-working-in-windows-7 I know I have got some games that are using starforce and/or securerom. What I don't have is the upper and lower filter in my registry tag. Oh and a reboot temporarily fixes my problem. After a random time though it goes missing again. I found a Microsoft knowledge base article regarding this but since I didn't have the filter tags they couldn't help me. Does anyone have any other tips bar removing the despicable drm:s? I would like to go on playing my games so that is not really an option for me.

  I'm having an issue...My system specs is: Intel i7 960 6GM Corair XMS RAM ATI HD5970 graphics card Intel dx58so motherboard Cooler Master HAF 922 case 1.5TB Seagate hard drive Windows Vista x86 (32-bit). Here is my issue: when I go to AMD/ATI website to update my graphics card - it doesn't. when I type DxDiag and then click on display it tell me my version is 8.17.0 and its on 10.10.0 for the latest version. How can I get 8.17.0 too 10.10.0? I figure it would have done that after I updated the driver for my graphics card. Thanks.

• Lots of artifacts while streaming HD content with VLC 0.9.9 on CentOS

  I'm trying to stream (multicast) a x264 encoded file using VLC. This in itself succeeds, but the stream has a huge lot of artifacts. This seems to suggest that the data cannot be transported fast enough. If I check network usage, though, it's only using about 15 mbit. I have a similar SD stream which functions perfectly. I think I could improve stream performance by not streaming the raw data, but I cannot seem to get this working. It seems that on keyframes all artifacts are removed for a short while (less than a second). This is the command I use: vlc -vv hdtest.mkv --sout '#duplicate{dst=rtp{dst=ff02::1%eth1,mux=ts,port=5678,sap,group="Testgroup",name="TeststreamHD"}}' --loop Which is all one long line.

• Installing FreeNAS 8.3 problems

  I'm trying to install FreeNAS 8.3 on some desktop-level hardware (AMD Phenom + 890FX + 16GB) and I've been unsuccessful. I initially tried using a USB stick and followed the instructions on the FreeNAS site here. Making the USB was simple as the instructions laid out, but as soon as the USB is detected (during the boot process) some text appears and quickly vanishes and my machine reboots infinitely. After trying several different was to make the USB, I tried using a DVD-ROM but again, I had the same issue as the USB stick. This leads me to conclude that either a BIOS setting is incorrect but I have no idea which one. I've changed the BIOS to not "fast" boot per se, and I've correctly configured the boot order per USB stick and the DVD-ROM drive so I know that it's working. Have I missed anything that might be causing this problem? I'm not a FreeBSD/FreeNAS expert by any means.

• HD Radeon 6950 cannot run multiple monitors

  I'm having troubles getting multiple monitors to run on my graphics card. I plug one via the hdmi, and one into the DVI (I have tried both available DVI ports). with one DVI port it does not even register the monitor, with the second one I go into the Catalyst Control Center and it gives me the option to swap between the HDMI and the DVI port. I guess since this is the flex edition I could just go get 2 DSP to HDMI converters, plug 2 monitors in through the available DSP, and than the 3rd one into the HDMI, but do you have any idea why it will not let me run one HDMI and one DVI?

• USB HD Freezes Windows Explorer

  I recently purchased a "Seagate STBX1000200 1TB Expansion 2.5 inch External Hard Drive". It has been working without problems until recently. When i plug the device into a USB port the device is recognised as it appears in the device manager but when i go to Windows Explorer and try to open it (or right click on it) it hangs/freezes windows explorer. Please note i am using Windows 7 Professional. I have already tried various things without success after searching for people with similar problems. I did read that it could be a problem with how the computer assigns a drive letter. But whrn i go to disk management (when running as an administrator) it hangs and displays the following message: Connecting to virtual disk service I'd appreciate it if anyone could offer some advice. • Ubuntu Linux -- create custom burnable/bootable DVD image?

  I recently developed some kiosk software that runs on Ubuntu Linux, and my client needs me to set up ten more computers with the complete software package(and that number will only grow in the future). So I'm looking for a way to make this less of a pain in the neck and prevent me from shooting myself in the foot -- I had to disable some things on the installations of the operating systems like screensavers, automatic updates, etc. that would pop up and disrupt the kiosk operation. I don't feel comfortable doing that by hand across 10 computers, it seems stupid. Does anybody have recommendations for software that would let me burn an installable DVD with a complete image of the hard drive from one of the devices? I've looked at Clonezilla, G4L, and PartImage and I'm still not quite sure if any of them offer what I need. I know PartImage for sure won't work, because it doesn't support Ext4.

  Hello, I just stuck in a new 64 GB SSD (literally out of the box) into my Lenovo X61 laptop, replacing an old 5400 RPM 80 GB drive. When I boot the system, my motherboard successfully sees the SATA hard drive. Now I want to install Ubuntu on it. I stick it in the CD drive, bootup the system, and it gets to step 4 (choose partition), but sees no available partitions. Do I need to do something to the hard drive before installing Ubuntu? • Acer Aspire One 725 - missing graphic card driver for Radeon HD 7290?

  Recently I bought an Acer Aspire One 725 Netbook and installed Ubuntu 12.10 on it. I bought it, because it can run HD movies and has Full HD on external VGA port. However, movies from youtube have a really slow framerate. If you open three tabs in Opera (for example g-mail, youtube and askubuntu) it gets really laggy. My suspicion is that the driver for graphic card is missing. When I check the System->Details->Graphics the driver is unknown. • win7: software raid for several hds which retains files on each HD?

  hi, is there some kind of software/driver which enables to create one big volume out of several hard disks but retains file structure on each HD? (in case one hd crashes only data on that hd will be lost). win7 enables me to do that but in case one hd breaks all data will be lost. thx
